Hello MTSers! As part of our relatively new MTS Competitions we are announcing the winners from the LolSim Calendar Contest, advertising the activity participants, and kicking off January's competition.

November Calendar Winners!
First our winners! As we did last year, the winners will get their own news post to shine in throughout the year. We also have created TS2 and TS3 in game calendars of our winners and they are available for everyone to download and enjoy! Our panel of judges consisted of about a dozen staff members voting anonymously. Just as last year, anyone who submitted two entries had their best one chosen to let as many people win as possible. ;) TS2 in game Calendar (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=494587) by Phaenoh

January Create Competition - Multicultural
This January (you have all month) we are hosting a create competition. You make something and upload it just as you would any other download, but tag it with the search term #CreateMulticultural. You may make as many or as few things for it as you like, they will all be considered. Both TS2 and TS3 are allowed, and they will be judged separately. 1 in 10 will be win, so you stand a pretty good shot!

What do we mean by multicultural? Well, create something for a present-day or recent-past culture and upload it. You will be judged on the quality of the upload and how faithfully you recreated it, so do your research and teach us something in your post. Chances are, we have no idea what it is or why it's important. We've had some fantastic examples of these uploads in the past: N8ive Sims First Nations project (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=228252), Jeka's Russian Clay Stove (http://www.modthesims.info/d/274366), Masaharu777's Japanese style lots (http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=230073), Nouk's 'dark lady' hairs (http://www.modthesims.info/browse.php?gs=1&f=372&gs=1&showType=1&gO=1&gE1=1&gE2=1&gE3=1&gE4=1&gE5=1&gE6=1&gE7=1&gE8=1&gS=1&gS0=1&gS1=1&gS2=1&gS3=1&gS4=1&gS5=1&gS6=1&gS7=1&gS8=1&tag=&filter=0&t_f=1&username=nouk&csort=0&go=Go), TwoHorse's Indian Bindis (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=288664), jadedicara's Scottish Kilts (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=278314), Gerald_Sim_'s Indonesian Batik's patterns (http://www.modthesims.info/d/480893), -Shady-'s Mexican Flair lot (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=415710). These are by no means the only types of uploads or cultures that should be represented, it's just what I could dig up in one evening. ;) You also don't have to only stick to your own culture/country/ethnic group, just try to do justice to whatever you make. :)

What's in it for us you say? Well, all winners (the 24 lucky calendar winners are our first) and whoever earns a spot as a winner of the Multicultural Create Competition will receive 3 fantastic prizes! Behind door number one is a pretty little blue ribbon icon for their avatar, the second prize is a purple achievement badge on their profile page (participates who do not win receive a red one as our thanks) and the final prize is a fantastic in game trophy item! It doesn't just look snazzy, but it helps your sims out with skilling. Winners will receive the version for the game they submitted to.

Halie, no fantasy stuff for this theme. We do fantasy themes a lot (and karen lorraine, historical stuff too) so this time we are doing current or barely recent past cultures. But, if you really want to do a project, do it! Don't let our silly competition stop you, just know that you prolly won't win if you don't fit the category as well as others. There is also no limit to the number of things you can upload to this competition, so its not like you need to put all your eggs in one basket. :)

Yippee! ...back burner-ing New Year's party time dress _Mesh is made but have to work on the 2 and 3 lods.. and starting on some pow-wow gear! (I have no idea what I can get done in a month.. :) Cross your fingers but .... you know... when-ever time.. lol ...maybe it's time to get the pow-wow horse parade gear off the back burner... I've had an interesting time on TS3 clothing meshes... different from TS2.....

edit: I'd be more likely to finish if I stuck to TS2 rather than TS3....

Could "recent past" be as far back as my 2 Great Grandmother in Scotland?

Her journal was found in my Great Grandfathers belongings and Ive been scanning it into my computer. While doing so I couldn't help reading some of it and it details some of her experiences in the Textile industry before she moved to America when my Great Grandfather was a teenager. Just for a time frame my Great Grandfather was born in 1895 and passed away at the age of 105 in 2000. He was a little bit of a horder and going thru his paperwork has been an extensive & fascinating process.

I have already started creating a custom Textiles career for S2 and perhaps it will fit this category? The career starts as Aprentice and ends as a Haberdasher (still a name used as a seller of custom tailored clothing in parts of Scotland)

How many spots/winners will be chosen for the Multicultural Create Competition? As mentioned in my first post 1 in 10. If only 10 people submit, we will have 1 winner. If 100 people submit, we will have 10 winners.
were do i enter:rofl: so we cant post on this page do i have to make a thread for my pic and post the link here ? :faceslap: You need to upload your Custom Content, following the rules for Submission Guidelines. This is not a picture contest, it's a 'making' contest - hence the term 'create'.
So, this is my first time uploading a contest item and I'm not exactly clear on how to tag it so it comes up when you search for winners. Do you type in something like "multicultural" or something like that? Thanks. There is a box for 'search terms' and you type it in there.

Once again, congrats to our winners. Enjoy your ribbons, you earned it!

I asked a question at the end of page one, but I guess it was overlooked... Sorry it was wordy but I would still like an answer whether my Textiles career - Based on what my own Great Great Grandmother experienced in Scotland as a young woman - will work for the current Multicultural competition?

Phaenoh
4th Jan 2013, 5:50 PM
Oh, sorry Kitty, yes that should work as long as you include enough of a cultural history lesson behind it. ;)

Kittylynn74
4th Jan 2013, 7:08 PM
Thank You. Most of the cultural history lesson will be in the upload itself... I'm using a few Gaelic terms in the job names and descriptions, but I do want it to be understandable to average english speaking players :)

I have a CAW project I've been working on that would be perfect, but as I've never managed to actually finish a CAW project, we'll have to see if I can finish it, and finish it well, by the end of the month, lol. But I think I'll scale it down and at least do a lot in the same theme as my CAW, that way I can enter something, even if I don't finish the world :) I'm excited about this ;)

This January (you have all month) we are hosting a create competition. You make something and upload it just as you would any other download, but tag it with the search term #CreateMulticultural.
Just to answer a couple of questions; you have until the very end of January. Each Competition/Activity/Photo contest we do will last for a month each :)

You can make a sim, a house, a game mod or a pair of knickers - anything that can be uploaded to the downloads section - as long as it fits the theme! Images, movies, stories etc will not be judged because they can't be uploaded to the downloads section. Activity months are less strict so if you want to join in the fun with a movie or story you can join in the next activity month in Feb. If you want to join in with an image, keep an eye out for the next photo competition. ;)

TwoHorse's Indian Bindis (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=288664), [url=http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=278314]

Any idea if this is Sim 3 capable? I can't tell what's Sim 2 and what's Sim 3 - nearly everything I've tried to download so far does not work with Sim 3, including a few things that are supposed to.

I found a couple of really good looking saris but they're all Sim 2 only. And the "India Inspiration pack" on the Sims store is AWFUL. Those aren't saris, they're skirts with scarves! They're horrible! They look like they're painted on, no pleats, no fullness to them at all.

If anybody is interested and knows how, at least one designer of the Sim 2 saris has a blurb on her page BEGGING someone to update them to Sim 3 .... hint hint hint ...

thank you. I was thinking half French, half Mongolian or Nepalese. I'm trying to find someone who will help me find a beautiful pink deel (a traditional kaftan-like dress) for her formal wear. I may have to forgo a head dress as that might be a bit too specific. What do you think of the name Solongo Bellamy? Solongo is Mongolian for rainbow and Bellamy means beautiful friend in French.

DoReMi, just create an account that you intend to be your joint account, use it in CI to ask that it be connected to your account and whoever else is in your group and then any downloads that group submits will appear on all of your pages. See my account and the Halloween trunk I did with Echo. It shows up on my page, her page, and our joint page.

Please, no one panic about not being able to upload, we will be extending the theme to give you your full 30 days of uploading. Think of this as just extra time to work on perfecting your upload and culture post. Remember, a big part of this is what you can teach us with your upload, so do include your research! :)

I have a question. I made an Entrepreneur career for this competition; am I allowed to use the Creator Feedback forum to get help testing it and tuning the difficulty?

Would it be possible if I could get an answer to my question? Thanks!

ploading of new items to MTS is currently turned OFF so we can have a spring clean of the moderation queues. They'll be back soon.

I believe that CFF is for getting advice on how to perfect your creation to make it ready for upload, I don't think you are allowed to upload any files other than pictures there. I'm not a moderator though so I can't tell you for sure, if confused post in the Creator Issues forum.

One of the reasons I asked the question was that I was wondering if it was a violation of contest rules to use the Creator Feedback forum. That's why you haven't seen my career there, even though all that needs to be done now is testing.

If you are making something for the multicultural theme, that isn't a contest.

Hi Duckie. The Creator feedback form is for any creations you need help with. Whether it is just something you are working on or something you want to upload for Multicultural. Your items aren't judged until they are uploaded. MTS is for MODDING Sims stuff and we try to help you learn modding. Then when your stuff passes moderation, you can share it with others and hopefully, they will take up modding too.

In the creator feedback forum, you just upload photos and discussions of the problem. Do not upload the actual package unless a moderator asks you to do so.

PSDuckie, you can do the testing yourself. Get a testing sim and get them the job and use some cheats (or not if you have more time) to get them to each job level. Try to send them to work on each level at least once, be sure that the carpool arrives and is the right one and that any uniforms are working correctly. You may use CFF if you want suggestions on anything, but please don't upload your actually career file there unless someone volunteers to test it for you. (something you shouldn't ask for until YOU"VE tested it and it runs perfect on your setup.) You will also need to remove it after they've gotten the file. :)

joandarah, the Multicultural theme IS a competition, and we will be awarding prizes to our lucky 1 in 10s. The competition will run longer because we've had the upload wizard closed.

porky, thanks ;)

That part I can test myself, yes. What I would need help with is tuning the difficulty - I want it to be hard for a skilled player, but not impossible. With my intended difficulty, even getting to level 4 would be a challenge.

Since I am just one person and also not the best Sims player, I can't do a valid difficulty test on my own.

Hey there I won the calender competition and got a blue ribbon, which surprised me, but I have some questions.

I didn't get a purple achievement badge or the in game trophy item (or link for it). I was wondering when I would receive this since I got the blue ribbon a long time ago, and the competition was in November.

Also for the calender contest download (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=494587&c=1) could you make a zip. version?? I can't download rar. and I would really like an in game calender since I won.

Lastly, is the multicultural create competition over?? It's just for January right, because it's February. This month you should an activity or competition involving Valentine's Day. It would be cute :lovestruc and something I would want to make clothes or take pictures for.

The multicultural theme isn't over, because uploads have been turned off for most of January, and it would seem a little unfair to end the theme without letting people upload their creations. The other questions, I can't answer straight away.

In a contest promoting cultural diversity somebody "disagrees" with the post suggesting a hijab ... way to go, bigot.

Possibly they maybe just disagreed because these contests aren't really supposed to be opportunities for people to make requests. That's my take on it, anyway... Why don't you try and make one?

Heya MTS Staff! I want to know when will this Cultural Diversity Competition be ended? I'm thinking to submitting one of my work, maybe due on middle of March. I need time to make my creation perfect. As long as the banner is placed on top of page, the competition is still going on, right? :)

I have not yet received the badge or the lamp reward, and I was wondering how and when these would arrive. Thank you.

I have a question about the calender picture contest.
I participated and it was stated:
'And all entrants will receive a red participation sticker as well'
Does this still have to be done? Because I can't find it if I did receive it.
I know, it is a small thing, not a big deal. Just wondering, and I would like to have it for myself as a nice reminder that I participated in something.
Thanks in advance for a reply.

I don't see it either. I was assuming that it would be done once the dust settles after the revamp of the Uploads.

The dust from the upload revamp is actually only from the upload revamp, the badges were back-burnered till that was completed, but we are working on it still. :)

I don't know if the culture still has to be alive, but a good Roman Toga would be a sure winner. This is the answer I got to a Roman Bath house suggestion:

Halie, no fantasy stuff for this theme. We do fantasy themes a lot (and karen lorraine, historical stuff too) so this time we are doing current or barely recent past cultures.
