Default Anyone can
Simply go to a country where you are NOT the "norm" and see what it is like.
I spent 1 year in a land far far away where I was the ONLY human for about 1000 miles with a different skin colour.
It was a life changing experience. Amazing.

That guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. For hundreds of years, Europeans have dominated, enslaved, and subjugated much of the world and its culture. White people don't experience anywhere near the amount of subjugation and prejudice as other racial groups. They just don't. Making a joke about white people isn't bigoted because white people, in the vast majority of the world for a the last several hundred years, haven't been treated as second-class citizens based purely on the color of their skin. What a lot of people don't understand is that white people are in a very privileged position in society. There are some er, very special privileged people that tend to shit themselves if they feel that someone who is "undeserving" (anyone who isn't them, basically) is trying to take their cushy spot away from them. So they fund bullshit studies, or they make legislation, or they create things to be seen by millions, and all these things are much easier for them because of their status. This is part of a cycle of oppressed groups not being given a voice. Their rain of shit gets stuck in the little nooks and crannies of society, and even people who wouldn't consider themselves racist find themselves agreeing because the message is so subtle, or maybe even believe in their superiority a little deep down (even if they aren't a part of the group being exalted). I don't think most people who perpetuate racism even realize the implications of what they're saying. The seemingly cartoon villain types do exist, but the ignorant ones spread the message of white authority the furthest. The ones who use the term "ghetto" pejoratively or try to touch black people's hair without their permission. That's why it's important to always look at things critically, and always think about why you agree with something. Especially if you are a member of a group that is in power: white, male, straight, mentally or physically healthy, middle to upper class, or cisgendered. I myself am white, and I don't usually like to speak for groups I'm not apart of (and if I'm not adequately representing minority groups, please let me know), but I feel this is important. Affirmative action (or "positive discrimination" as this guy calls it) has been shown to help people who have been historically placed below white men. As I said before, there are certain subconscious biases that are ingrained in our culture by people who don't want the protesters to succeed, as well as bullshit that is passed from generation to generation. It's not just skinheads who turn down job applicants for their race or sex. It's everyday people who unconsciously choose one applicant over another because of what they've been told all their lives that women and minorities are this and aren't that. They don't even consider that they might be biased because in their minds they can do no wrong. They fool themselves into thinking it's based on merit when they're just . Affirmative action makes people consider that they might have biases, so they can adjust their perspective accordingly. It's not about hiring people BASED on skin color. It's giving people who have been disproportionately overlooked in history a chance at success.

(Another reason that guy's an idiot: he's against affirmative action. So at the end, he advocates for a revolutionary new system. A system in which it's illegal to refuse to hire someone based on their skin color! Which is...exactly what affirmative action is. Pseudo intellectuals crack me up)

I would've continued to read your paragraphs, but I stopped once you said it's okay to ridicule a race simply because they're more socially privileged. That is a terrible justification, and it does nothing but continue the mindset of giving importance to other races while disrespecting others

We need to work towards making sure all races get the same respect as other races, not repeating history.

Of course we need to work toward the equality of all human beings. That's very important to me. But as things are right now, people are not all equal. White people start out with more privilege than in our society. Ridiculing an entire race is unfair and wrong, and I didn't mean to imply that it was a good thing. But I don't think the 'white girl' meme comes anywhere close to being as malicious and cruel as jokes that are commonly made about people of color. I don't even think it's all that mean-spirited, honestly. It's basically stereotyping white girls as being cute, painting flowers on their nails, enjoying sugary coffee drinks, and wearing fashionable yet comfy clothing. Memes involving black girls tend to revolve around calling them "ratchet", insulting the lower class, insulting their hair and weight, with a healthy dose of slut-shaming sprinkled on top. I mean, on top of the fact that those basic white girl stereotypes have no significant historical context, they are extremely unlikely to actually shift the balance of power in any meaningful way. In fact, it's extremely unlikely that poking fun at the privileged will result in anywhere near the kind of discrimination that's happened to other races in history. I thought hugbug993 made a very good point about the inequalities we face in life:

In the Western world, white people can experience racism, but rarely institutional racism. The reason people don't care as much is that we have the institutional advantage. Racism against us means that we get called names. Racism against the other races can mean getting killed.

There we go. That makes much more sense.

When you word it in this manner, it's accurate. Pulling out the Starbucks memes aimed towards whites are a lot less hurtful than the ghetto memes aimed towards blacks. One implies drinking a certain type of drink, and the other implies the race is bad itself. They can't be compared.

Anyone with the capacity for ignorance, prejudice, and fear can be racist.

Which is everyone.

And as such, anyone regardless of race or ethnicity can experience racism.

I'm writing a TV series, yeah. It's a cross between True Detective and Pretty Little Liars.

White man experiences racism full on when foreigners come into the country, demand things change to their liking and throw tantrums when they don't get their own way. Then when they don't like something someone says or does without it being remotely racist, they cry racism to get their own way and the stupid do-gooders and government automatically assume that the white man is guilty on the spot and he is sent to jail. Too much gone too far. Have you noticed how foreigners won't speak English because they are so racist.

Where do you live where people are sent to jail on the spot when foreigners "cry racist," and yes - I'm demanding some citations I can look up and corroborate at the proper statutes and legislative body. Otherwise I'm going to just point out that you sound like a lying whiny bigot. Oh, I called you a racist - maybe you should publish the number so we can ring the local authorities to take you away...

Don't joke or complain about people not speaking English, because they can speak at least one other language.

Btw, a bunch of native English speakers are just as bad, they expect every person in the World to speak their mighty language fluently. They are just as refugal as some other people.

Worse, there's plenty of English that's mutually unintelligible. Accents can be a bitch.

Dear Asshole,

I am a Spanish-speaking immigrant to the United States of America. I received my citizenship to this great country in 2005. At no point did I demand anything be provided to me simply because I felt entitled to it. That is what you are doing, actually. The United States of America has always been a nation of immigrants, and no amount of nativist fear-mongering will ever change that.

Let me be frank. If you don't want to be called a racist, do not say or do racist things. It's quite simple.

Gabriela Carmen del Pílar [Redacted] [Redacted]

P.S. English is not my second language. It's actually my third. Please be forthcoming with the number of languages you can speak.

P.S.S. Here's $10. Put it towards educating yourself. On any topic. Your choice.

Oh, and BTW... That's Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. He's also a foreigner.

"Reverse discrimination" refers to a case wherein a large group (typically in an overly-conservative society) discriminates against a small group. At some point. the area becomes overly-liberal and decides that since the small group was once discriminated against, any member of the small group is automatically experiencing prejudice when any member of the large group disagrees with them (and the small group often gets legal/financial/etc. benefits over the large group, whether official or not).

Relevant:

Have you ever heard, "Proud to be white?" Have you ever heard, "Proud to be black?" Have you ever heard, "Proud to be Hispanic?" Etc.

Only one of the above will rub people the wrong way... (even though they are all equally stupid... you shouldn't really be proud of something that you didn't choose; there was no accomplishment).

Your explanation hinges on the idea that in your theoretical area, there is no longer discrimination against the small group. Please provide an example of a society that no longer experiences prejudice against minorities, and that said minorities continue to get these benefits given total equality, complete with a comparison by financial rank.

That's because in this society, minorities are typically shown that they should be ashamed of their ethnicity. Hell, I once saw a caucasian friend of mine in elementary school mocked and called names because she came back with a tan that made her look like a minority. "Proud to be X" is a means of combating that, because it's the opposite of shame.

"Proud to be White", on the other hand, is stupid. It's because white people are equating centuries of dehumanization and an ongoing institutional racism with our experience of not being as far above the "brown people" as we used to be.
POC: We're still having trouble getting recognized as equals, but we're continuing to fight and to develop our own culture despite being looked down on. Let's not bow down to pressure, and let's be who we are!
White people: We can't appropriate a catchphrase, even though 'White Power' has traditionally been associated with Nazis and the KKK who kill non-white people, so that must mean we're being persecuted! D: *sheds single manly tear*

Really though, it's mostly the fact that they're slogans already co-opted by domestic terror groups. There's nothing wrong with the swastika either, except Hitler and the Nazis happened and all the pretending that it didn't happen in the world doesn't change that it did. Saying that "white power" is equivalent to "black lives matter" or something like that willfully ignores history in the same way that plopping a swastika next to a star of david and saying they're both "just" holy symbols does.
