Thanks for the reply, I ended up putting all bookcases into the library, and then visiting it to figure out which ones had skill books. Now I have one bookcase hidden away in the corner that has skillbooks, because none of the skillbook bookcases look like library shelves, they looks more like something from a teenagers room.

Is it really so that you can not fill a nectar rack in a community lot with your own nectar? I have one woman own a consignment shop, and she has nectar racks in there, I even switched the lot to a nectary, but in neither case was she able to fill the nectar racks with her own products. When I changed the lot type to nectary, I did not change the register to a nectar register.

In France for example, the nectar racks were always filled, if there is no way to fill the racks is there at least a way to cosmetically fill them so the shelves wouldn't look empty?

lazzybum 28th Jun 2010 7:28 AM

is there a cheat or a way to clear all the residence in a town? Cause I want to use Sunset Valley but totally remake it and I dont want the default townies that it starts with.

And with Ambitions, can you do retail? Like have a cash register and sell stuff in your own store rather than that consignment store. I want to make a store just selling cameras from WA. Can making your own resturant work too?

HarlequinnRomance 30th Jun 2010 5:42 AM

I just keep needing to ask questions XD I feel kinda slow...But this is a glitch I think...My legacy guy got the call to make the simbot, got the ore or whatever he needed and had to get the life fruit. I got the purchasable life fruit mod, bought them and the little thing for the simbot said he had to go home to complete that part....I'm not sure if it said this before or after I got the life fruit, but it's not doing anything now. I can't turn it in to the science place and he's been standing around at home for days.

Editing a base camp in Egypt

How do you edit a community lot, such as base camp, in foreign cities? I want to add a couple of items to the Egypt camp, and it says I need a cheat code to be able to do it. However, I enter the TestingCheatsEnabled true, push shift click, and nothing happens. Is that the right cheat? It is what I found when I searched.

Srikandi 30th Jun 2010 8:13 AM

Shift-click on the ground at the base camp with testingcheats on should give you a choice between "buy here" and "build here". I think your sim also has to be on the lot... are they?

You can't fill a nectar rack at a community lot with your OWN nectar, but you can make it generate (random, I think) tastable and buyable nectar. Shift-Control-click it (like you would a tomb object to set its properties) and choose the buyable option and/or the tastable option (forget exactly what they're called, but they're self-explanatory).

Awesomemod includes a cheat to do em all at once. But without that, you can do it by hand by moving em out in Edit Town. And I think there are some downloadable pre-cleared versions out there.

No. Ambitions is not OFB.

There's no way to set the contents of a register (without modding, that is), and there's no way to make the controlled sim a store salesperson. As for restaurants, only way to make em is by using the WA food register.

No, I went into Egypt thru the edit town feature, I will try doing it with the sim on the lot and see what happens. Thanks Srikandi

Whoops, sorry Twallan I use SC but haven't come near looking at all its features

ani_ 1st Jul 2010 9:08 PM

Srikandi: Thanks for the nectar info, will have to try it out.

Two more questions:
1. Is there any logic on when a shop clerk is present?
Normally I noticed that clerks always left at six, and this was like clockwork, and it's fine because then I know I have to do my shoppings before six . But then one saturday, nobody worked as a shop attendant, all my shops were closed. Then the next day, Sunday, they were at work, and at least the lady who mends the food register, stayed until over three in the morning to tend the bar.

2. Did ambition break family funds? I noticed that if I use the cheat, all households with the same family name, have their funds changed. Was family funds always like this, or is this a new "feature" that came with ambition?

Roles have distinct start and end times associated with them. Such values are stored in the "NpcRoles" tuning file.

So in theory, all the registered sims should hang around for their entire work-time. If they are not, it is most likely an error.

That is the way it is written: All households that match the given name will have their funds changed.

Can not say anything regarding how it was pre-Patch 1.12 , as I never used the command myself.

Cheers.

Problems.......

I have a big problem. I was playing my sims 3 to my hearts content, advancing in sim career, and getting ready to start a family, when *Boom* twins born but horribly disfigured. Ones arm was charcoal in color while the other half of its body was normal. And the other was invisible but present. Then, i happen to notice other children in town and they can best be described as taking the form of a praying mantis the way the bodies were stretched. But it seems i wasn't alone in this problem when venturing out onto the internet. It was suggested to remove a certain kind of file from my custom content, (cant remember which files) of which i did, but to no success. My kids were still not right. So i said, "Fine! To hell with it!" and took out all my custom content and for good measure un-installed my games to start anew. Now, for some reason, my sims 3 pack files (files that trigger the game launcher to install the new content) work fine in my game but my package files will not work. I'm pretty sure i have my framework for installing game mods set up correctly, but it's still not working. What should I do? Please help me!

Menaceman44 1st Jul 2010 10:57 PM

Try downloading and running Delphy's Framework Installer Tool
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=384014

I had issues after I got Ambitions only to discover, after running Delphy's tool, that I had missed a file out along the way.

As for the disfigured kids. I think that is a result of adult custom clothing being classified as allowing children to wear it which causes the skeleton to stretch weirdly.

I started having problems with clutter after I patched, specifically Lemoncandy's. Can this be conflicting with other CC, or is it that it isn't able to work with the new patch. :/ I love clutter so it's been driving me nuts.

Age resetting

I did a google, and all the replies to this came up at least last year. I was just wondering if anyone ever came up with a cheat or something, that I can reset a sim to a previous age? Somehow my story progression became turned on in my last saves, and all my sims turned to seniors, I want to return them to adult. Is this possible?

Some of the early clutter mods, including Lemoncandy's and mine, featured conversions of props into clutter and used an early version of S3OC. These mods are indeed incompatible with the patch/Ambitions, alas.

Using either Awesomemod or Twallan's Supercomputer, you can edit them in CAS, and reset their age stage there.

Does Ambitions make it so that it's required to do laundry? I like the idea, but my sister... not so much.

kiwi_tea 5th Jul 2010 12:58 AM

It's not required. Laundry only happens if you own a washing machine or dryer.

Blaise Parker 5th Jul 2010 8:10 AM

Is there some way that allows you to teleport others sims to the active household you are playing? Like make a specific sim come visit? Like the old Teleporter shrub for Sims 2.

Also, does the "clean house" feature for neat sims come up when you click the floor of the lot? Or do you have to click something that's dirty?

You can click on your cell phone and click call sim and the option to invite over will appear and then just choose the sim.

For the neat sims, you can click anywhere in the house and it'll say clean house.

How much handiness skill do you need to have, before you can upgrade your fire truck? My fireman has already 3 points, but the upgrade interactions is still grayed out and it only says you need handiness to do it, but not specifying how much.

I think they have to have 5 or 6. One of the two.

Thanks Harlequinn, but that requires that you are friendly with the Sim first. I want a mod or cheat that allows you to invite any Sim over, friends or not.

Anyone know of such a thing?

Pregnant forever?!

One of my Sims got pregnant. The same time, her best friend also got pregnant. This baby is now a Toddler while my Sim is still pregnant!!! It's a very long pregnancy, even for elephants. I mean, she feels sick all the time, had baby wants and wishes to buy a crib ... But nothing happens. I have no idea what to do.

Buy the crib and let your sim have her baby!

Thanks to story progression the aging (and pregnancies) of sims you aren't playing isn't the same as those you are playing.

VampireSim 9th Jul 2010 2:24 PM

Yeah, it works. Thanks!!!

Engram 9th Jul 2010 2:27 PM

VampireSim: how long has it actually been? Has she been pregnant for about 3 or 4 days or has it been over a week? Keep in mind that the game tends to grow up recently born babies to toddlers almost immediately, so the fact that her friend's kid is already a toddler means nothing. The actual length of the pregnancy of the active sim is the major factor you should be looking at. So how long has she actually been pregnant?

I'm pretty sure gems don't age, with one exception.
If you have WA, Tiberium is a gem that can only be "spire cut". After getting it cut, leave it in your inventory until your sim gets sick. Place on you lot and in a couple of Sim-days, your roughly 6,000 simolean gem turns into a large spire-cut 40,000 simolean gem.

I think, she*s pregnant for more than 2 Sims weeks. And still at work!!! I added a crib and she turned into the last phase of pregancy. Buying the crib helped a lot. Hopefully baby will come soon. She never stopped working.

Edit: Baby is coming!!!!

Tech help questions go in help forum. Read this and you'll find the forum link at the bottom: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...ims_3_Game_Help

Not sure what "custom content manual" you're referring to, but if you mean this you should read all of it, not just most of it http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...3_Package_Files

If you do wind up needing to post in the help forum, you'll need a more detailed description of your problem than "it won't let me". Tell em exactly what you tried to do and exactly what happened.

jodemilo 12th Jul 2010 6:05 PM

OK, I only started Sims 3 properly last night and did a long session. Two things bugged me which I tried to search for answers to in the forum but nothing jumped out at me.

No.1 - If another sim phones your sim to ask to "hangout" and the options are "My place" or "No thanks", how the hell do you find "their place" on the map if they're not part of any playable family?

No. 2 - my sim is at the top of the music career (rock music branch) but I stupidly didn't notice her long term wish is to get to the top of the symphonic branch. So how do I "backtrack" to the right branch without her restarting the career completely? If it's not possible other than going back to the start of the career I think I'll change her LTW, but just wondered.

Oh, I forgot - No.3 - if you upgrade some equipment belonging to another sim (from the family inventory), how do you then transfer it back to them? I deleted mine by mistake last night and the other sim said "that was lame, other sims will know you can't be trusted with their things". hehe

ani_ 12th Jul 2010 9:23 PM

1. I always thought they meant my place, like the active sim's place. To find another sim's place, you can always go to edit town and click through the livable house, if the sim who invited you over was another playable. But if they are townies from the homeless household, then you can't visit them.

2. I think you have to restart the career.

3. After upgrading, put it back to the family inventory, and then you get the option to return it.

1. How does the stylist career work? My woman is now working as a stylist and is working in a salon that I built. She got her first gig, the customer came in, but the stylist workstation had no interactions.

2. Also when I had another sim visiting the original salon from the simbin and Cornelia Goth was the stylist, when I visited that salon, the stylist option was unclickable. So is it really so that you can't get a makeover if you are playing the customer?

3. Is there any way you can buy the salon?

You could always stop sending her to work for a few days at a time to that her performance drops or send her in a bad mood. Stopping being friends with co-workers should lower performance as well.

Just planting 1 of each seed in town, at full maturity, you will literally burn all daylight 'Tending Garden'. When you add the foods from WA...just mark an entire day off on your calendar marked 'Gardening'.

This is why your gardeners need children. They are cheap labor. *sage nod*

'Inappropriate in a good way' LTR - This allows you to do stuff in people's *houses* (repair, cook, use tv, video games etc) right?
But how does 'Never Jealous' work? What kind of jealousy are they referring to? Certainly not the type I was

From what I can tell, it means that your Sim can flirt with other Sims and their SO won't get jealous. I think.

Is there a LTW for that? Cause that's, like, the premise of every game I started my 1st 2 weeks playing (the married ones, anyway - town seemed too content). Anyway, maybe you could be a ghost hunter and take care of those ghosts professionally

i've got all expansion packs for sims3 and 443 packages files in my mods folder. is it normal that the game takes some minutes to load the intro and when starting a new game, that this takes a long long long time?? when i've got a corrupted package file the new game doesn't load (no green loading bar). now the games loads over 20 minutes and the green bar loads a bit....i broke up the loading cause no clue how long it gonna take...

nooks, Game Help:Package File Lagwiki. Beyond that, loading time will depend upon the size and number of files + your computer's specs. All of which is outside the scope of this thread. Please seek further information in Game Help.

You don't have to start the career from the very beginning. Quit the job, then apply again. It *should* start you again somewhere near the middle, for sure before they have to pick which path they'd like to take.

If you keep the item, take it out of your invo and upgrade it, then put it back in the family inventory, and an option should come up to return stereo (or whatever).

Children can't garden, without a mod... and with the mod, they get deformed while they're doing it, alas

Dolphinz has a Magic Gardening Gnome mod here that is the ideal solution to this problem, but I'm not sure if it's updated for Ambitions yet.

Do sims have a preferred gender like they did in The Sims 2? Or is it just a free-for-all? (In terms of romantic relationships)

They seem to develop preferred genders, after you steer them in the direction you want them to go (by performing a couple of romantic interactions).

They can when they are teens. For me, my families usually don't have huge gardens unless a) they are gardeners for a living or b) have The Perfect Garden Lifetime want (which usually means they are gardeners for a living, hee). So, if it's their job to garden, that's what they do for a job. With sprinklers, takes about the same time a job takes. Also, by the time they are able to plant all the special seeds and the like, usually they have a teen or two about to help them (and the higher skill they are, the faster they garden, the Super Green Thumb reward helps too). Just how I choose to play, though.

Here's a stupid question - has anyone ever managed to successfully get that commitment-phobe Hank Goddard to move in with them? Grrrrr! In my game he has two daughters he needs to help provide for - hehe. If Sims 3 was even more realistic sims would be able to charge absent parents for child maintenance!

I had another stupid question but I've just woken up and can't remember what it was now.

Oh PS, I forgot to thank the people who answered my previous question - ta!

hehe! I know I know! I'm just wasting my time with that beach bum! (how a beach bum who's always playing guitar can hold down a job as a traffic cop I have no idea!).

Anyway, my sim thought he was the best of a bad bunch at the time and wanted to try out motherhood so he was the most attractive candidate for a father - the likes of bachelors Christopher Steele and Simis Bachelor made her run a mile, plus the other good looking guys were gay.

Now it's quite funny, after a second attempt to get Hank to honour his commitments as a father (it would probably even help him moving in with her as he could improve his logic skills needed for promotion), I decided to let him just go back to his womanising ways. Now (through Twallan's story progression) my sim sees the latest news about what Hank's up to in the hood - he's reunited and split with Pauline Wan twice now (he now lives alone), had a brief fling with some other woman and then was last seen running through the hills playing tag with a new male friend. Maybe he'll turn gay too through lack of women in the hood with similar commitment issue problems as him. My sim couldn't care less to be honest - I'm in the middle of creating the perfect man for her! lol

The expanded version of the Story Progression mod by Twallan does charge absent parents maintenance (if they have more money than the parent with whom the children live). They aren't always good to pay it, but it does charge 'em.

Okay, so, The Wedding Cake Cottage house. I put one of my families in it, then expanded it. I just realized that it's got some sort of wonky roof type that I don't know how to do - somehow, there's a quarter story and THEN the roof on top of that. Any ideas how to do that, as it sorta sucks that a third of their house has no roof?

Edit: Also, I have a female Sim who is *not* pregnant walking like she's about to pop out her baby any day. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Oh thanks for that Ranissa - I only installed Twallan's story progression yesterday into my game so still reading the "readme" file about what it includes.

(Hope someone can answer your other questions btw - I'm too noobish to Sims 3 to offer advice).

That is most likely a derivation of the "Running man" bug.

You should try Buzzler's running fix mod: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=411351

Good luck.

The quarter story I think is probably a frieze (spelling may or may not be correct)

There's a cheat with Ambitions you can use that does that. It allows you to put a foundation type thing on top of a floor, and then beyond that you can put a roof on top of it.

I hope I explained that semi-clearly. The cheat is PlaceFriezes on/off

Someone correct me if that's wrong.

You are correct! Thanks to both you and Twallan, my dumb questions were answered and solved.

I think you press Tab. But I'm not certain.

Ghost sdoj 16th Jul 2010 12:23 AM

Yes, it's Tab. You can move with the arrows, or with W,A,S,D,Z,and X. (along with the mouse) Page up moves up a floor, and page down moves down a floor, while ,or < and .or > spin.

Helmasaur 16th Jul 2010 12:49 AM

There's a mod by Twallan that categorizes it as a friendly interaction. Are you sure you don't have that installed?

Nalia 16th Jul 2010 1:23 AM

Yes, I am sure. From Twallan's mods I have only one, and this is his Woohooer.

Helmasaur 16th Jul 2010 1:41 AM

Hm... maybe he's bi and has commitment issues?

Nalia 16th Jul 2010 1:44 AM

I don't know if he is Bi or Bye-bye. Checking his traits later I found that he dislikes children, but no commitment issues. Also Gunter Goth appeared once to ask another Sim if he is single.

I have Delphy's Dashboard installed for checking custom content and usually use it to check the game's version as well.

Generally it shows in the bottom left corner when you fire up the launcher.

jodemilo 16th Jul 2010 4:59 PM

If a parent sim goes to a community lot and takes her children with her (eg via the family car), how do you get them ALL to return in the family car? Naturally I assumed that it would work similarly to the "group outing" thing in Sims 2 and when the parent clicks on ther car to go home, the kids will follow... but they don't. Instead she shoots off in the car on her own leaving the kids behind, so I then have to make each child go home on their own (they cycle home). I just think that's a bit odd. So anyone know how to make them all go home together? Ta!

Well I have a good name for it: "Deadbeat Dad" but Im no modder

Stupid Question:
1 -What does 'Join Protest" do?
There's nothing about them in the papers, once you join there's no other options ("start riot" would be amusing) you just move your protest banner and yell.

2- If you invite kleptos over - can you prevent your stuff from getting swiped, maybe through a strong friendship? Can you recover lost items through a police report(or something)? I have alot of gems n stuff on display and am thinking twice about inviting them to parties.

3- How can you prevent romantic interest from 'getting spicy' with you when you S/O is around? (other than physically controlling your sim to keep the conversation friendly, or physically changing rooms)

4- How come I continue to get negative (Im assuming from jealousy) reactions even when my sim has the 'Never Jealous' LTR? Is it that *my* sim doesnt get jealous of others? I thought it was the other way around?

Inappropriate sims will do weird things like that? My Sim married a Sim who was inappropriate and he had options to kiss men, even though he was straight. I think Ask if Single is only a romantic interaction, because despite other users claiming it was now under Friendly, it's not and I've never seen it there.

NecroVonK 16th Jul 2010 9:13 PM

Yeah mine shows up under romantic. I believe the only way it should show up under friendly is if you have a certain mod installed.

When I checked him he hadn't the Inappropriate trait either. I don't recall all his traits, but I do remember the "Dislikes Children" and "Workaholic" ones.

Question: Why there is the "Ask to break up with X" in the dialogue option for nealy everyone? I mean, why children/teens/young adults would want their parents to break up?

heart shape gem option is gone

I haven't found the heart shape gem option any more. I also only have the polish split cut option on the noodle rock. Is it a bug or do I have a mod working against me. I know I had it when I had WA, I don't know if it disappeared after Ambitions or not because I didn't collect rocks and gems for a long time. My sim is at the top of the sculpture level, and I can get the sculpture cut, or what ever it is called, to show up, but now no heart. I know I have been cutting enough gems, so now I don't know what the deal is. Thanks.

I have drilled all the the gems, could that make the differance, instead of going out to find them? Help please

Does having doubles of the same rabbithole screw up the neighborhood, or would nothing happen? :O Lets say I have 2 corperate buildings and 2 diners, will the game be able to let the sims work at either one of each alright?

About as much as it does in real life: Absolutely nothing. There is no rioting, so like in real life, participating in a (riotless) protest is purposeless.

Lock them out of those rooms, or keep them stunlocked so they can't move.

As above: The only normal way to keep sims from performing undesirable actions is to stunlock them or physically prevent them from accessing the thing they want to abuse. You could hack the game so that they don't attempt those specific actions, but then you have to do so for every conceivable case of undesirable action, while granting exceptions for situations in which it IS acceptable. Or kill the entire action completely.

So I looked at this. The implementational logic involved can be described somewhere on the continuum of "convoluted" and "messed up". In the DEFAULT game, the No Jealousy trait functions ONLY when the ATTACKER has it. It doesn't matter if the Defender or the Observer have it or not, jealousy will occur only if the attacker does NOT have the trait.

Current AwesomeMod fixes it so that jealousy reactions do not occur if the Attacker, the Defender, or the Observer have the trait (although if only some observers have it, other observers that don't may react).

I found out the hard way that the gems you dig up do NOT count toward the heart cut. Just look up the rare spawn points, and find all the ones you haven't physically picked up off the ground yet, then you'll get it.

Should I backstab or eviscerate after the stun? (sorry, WoW is a hard thing to shake)

If you save a house to bin, will the LTRs (Food Rep, Teleporter, Body Sculptor) be saved with it? I'm hoping yes

el_flel 19th Jul 2010 5:43 PM

^ Unless a patch changed things, then yes. I saved a house which had the body sculptor and it was saved with it, this was just after WA came out.

Not worth its own topic but: Has anyone ever created a maid?
I didnt like the traits of the townie cleaners (all the housekeepers are kleptos...scary). So I made my own and I have to say, she's working out well. In hindsight I should have given her loner and hates outdoors, instead of friendly and loves the outdoors (cant keep her away from that sprinkler!) but all in all its a nice addition and very little micromanangement.

What skills do kids learn on the activity tables and do they apply to actual skills?
Does checking baking reports and selling from the bake stand help a child with business skills? logic? or?
What skills can a child have to sell from the stand? People always stop by but their on a diet or something, like they need convincing to buy or something.

Lastly, how do I get created sims back into CAS mode for some tweaking? Or do I have to remake?

Ive 20th Jul 2010 9:28 PM

What, all cleaners are kleptos? I always found the cleaners to be so rejective so never went for them

In TS2 I always went for the maid and the exterminator man thing as they were two good looking sims!

Helmasaur 20th Jul 2010 11:23 PM

To get them to buy: "There's some "baker's report" that you apparently get from the newspaper that is supposed to advise on pricing or what product to sell."

and

"BAKERS REPORT:
This is an option for a child on the newspaper. When they read the report you will get a message stating the days' statuses on what types of goods are in demand, average, or low. There are 3 types of baked goods: chocolate, vanilla, and other. It's fairly straight forward. If chocolate market has bottomed but the vanilla market is skyrocketing, then make plates of vanilla items (sugar cookies and vanilla cupcakes) and maybe some of the 'other' type (blueberry muffins and caramel brownies), don't make any chocolate for that day(chocolate muffins, brownies, or cupcakes)"

Both come from the official forum. Looks like it doesn't give you any skills to use the selling stand, just cash. The point is to raise the cooking skill with the toy oven, I guess.

Edited to add: One poster over there mentioned that pricing played a part, too. She dropped the prices from 11 Simoleans per to 5 Simoleans per and they started selling like...well, hotcakes!

Super Computer from Twallan or AwesomeMod. The game can't do it without a mod.

It's Handiness skill and does count as actual skill when the children grow up to teens. They will start with it being already level 2 or 3.

I saved a game and for laughs, I fired Kate and Evan and then chatted up the next two generated maids, all of them had at least 2 traits in common: Klepto and Neat.
In hindsight it would have been ok to just move them in since kleptos can only swipe at night (iirc) and I doubt they'd try to swipe from their own home.

The baking stand is cute, but to me you have to jump through a lot of hoops just to sell a cookie-so I maxed cooking and sold the tables

There are two types of activity tables, do they both raise Handiness or? Wondering why there are two different types.

Just age up and go to high school. How long it takes depends on the aging setting you have the game on. I play on "Normal" so my children become teenagers after 7 Sim days.

Speaking of loves/hates outdoors, I wonder why instead of hating (getting the negative moodlet) the outdoors, why they couldn't have just made the trait Loves The Indoors and Loves the Outdoors, so either way you get something good.

I agree, I had one sim who had "Hates/Outdoors" good lord, I felt like I was taking a vampire out in the daylight anytime he was outside for more than 5 mins.

@Ranissa:
I have both EPs and no CC, so when I go into childrens furniture I saw two so I bought one of each, will tell you the name of the other table (non-turtle one) tomorrow
( I hope I didnt just buy 2 of the same in different colors, lol, but Im sure one does not have the turtle theme to it)

I dont know why but I thought they were going through each grade a week (maybe) so by 9th sim week they'd be in HS, I play on epic lifespan so wasnt sure...

Question: How can you make an area encased in 4 walls flagged as outdoors/terrain?
I spent about 2 hours last night making a greenhouse, looked great and all that, but I can no longer plant there cause it's no longer considered terrain.

Someone must have made a live greenhouse in one of their houses by now Im assuming...
I could probably just not connect one of the walls but then it ruins the look
