Dunno if someone posted something like this before, but...

I discovered that once my Sim reached Mad Scientist rung on her career track, she could start experimenting on various pieces of furniture around her house. Now her bed has a "higher aesthetic appeal", her stove grants a positive boost to anyone who uses it (haven't tested it yet), and her refrigerator...makes...funny sounds. >_> Ah well, they can't all be winners. I wonder if you get the "perform experiment on" option with other Sims? X 3

i discovered that the curfew for teen sims is unbelievably annoying.

Aree 13th Jul 2009 5:07 AM

Be careful with your experiments! I had a bed catch fire once. The results were tragic.

And yes, the curfew is evil. Try setting a household of 6 on fire and attempt to have a single specific sim killed. I discovered this is difficult. I started in the morning. The fire lasted all day, and the teenage daughter I had playing for tips in the park got rounded up, then I had her run off before sh got caught in the fire... and AGAIN it happened. Her sister was home the whole time. Being an unlucky coward I was not worried about her, and she passed out in the back bedroom far away from the fire. Toddler son was there, crawled through fire a few times, did not react. YA son stayed at friends' houses all day until it came time for work. He had a good day. Husband and wife flailed their arms at the fire for hours upon hours, wife finally got too close and died before dawn. She was the target so all was well.

LethalLaurie 13th Jul 2009 5:11 AM

It starts fires? o_O;; Oh well, she's got plenty of cash for a new bed and three Death Flowers in her inventory. I think I'll take my chances.

haku23 13th Jul 2009 7:41 AM

I also found out that killing people by fire isn't easy. He HAD to die so he could be a ghost! Jeez. But it took HOURS for the fire to start and he kept on moving away from the fire. His kid and girlfriend were both freaking out. She's a brave sim so she wanted to go put the fire out I'd boarded up the wall so she couldn't. In the end I just starved him because everyone else would die too if I didn't -_-'

I discovered that playing tag is borked. Playing it with a complete stranger, will make them best friends by the next day. I'v noticed it before, but yesterday made an experiment. I had my childish adult play tag with one of my other playable teen. Before starting you could barely see green in their relationship. When they ended the playing less than 2h later, there was no huge improvement. But the next day, she had a moodlet for getting a friend, and when I checked, she and the teen were 100% best friends. I did another experiment, where she played tag with her sister's boyfriend, but I quit playing before the day was over so have no results on that experiemnt yet.

I discovered that the family ghost enjoys haunting the bathroom sink, while the Grim Reaper likes to play with my virtual reality headset, although it doesn't work well with his hood.

Then I CAS'ed the Reaper using Awesomemod, with some interesting results. I know I'm not the first to do this, but this is my story.

"Hi!"

Grim didn't take kindly to my switching him to a different Everyday outfit. He, well, lost his head. Haha, tough crowd.

This is the Grim Reaper in his swimsuit. Note that I use skin/eye replacements, but the basic idea would be the same in a vanilla game, I think.

He looks like a doggy somehow.

I forgot to take a peek at his traits and favorites, so I tried to enter CAS with him again, but it didn't work the second time--at least I don't think so. I gave up after a ridiculous loading time and Ctrl+Alt+Deleted it. Don't you think I'm going to give up, though! No, siree.

AkaneArihyoshi 13th Jul 2009 7:06 PM

Oh gosh, the things I've learned...

1) When going to the graveyard, there's a death flower bush to the left of the entrance as you look at it from the inside of the fence. Be quick, though, it dies really suddenly!

2) In Riverview there's a park outside of the main town (it's kind of small, but it's there) that's mainly just a big garden. It's really useful for gardening and cooking sims, because it gives you ingredients and starters for plants. You can also tend the garden there, but sometimes an NPC has already done it for the day. No one gets mad if you harvest from there, though it might take up a few hours.

3) When using TestingCheatsEnabled on, if you shift click a person you get two options. One, age the sim up, which is really useful if you're playing a family without aging for the parents but don't want (kind of useless) babies forever. The other is changing traits, which is nice if you suddenly want to make a sim learn a skill quickly and a certain trait would help, but you didn't think to give it to them in CAS. Or when you move in an NPC and their traits displease you.

There's more, but those are the ones I use the most. Hope they helped.

I learned that if you try to place something on the street in buy mode it disappears without a trace. You can't even undo it. Or maybe it's just my game.

Just learned that hey, a game without afro hairstyles is so unpleasant.

Totally. Where're the afros? We need afros now!

I discovered that autonomous interactions can be both surprising and awesome and completely obliterate all the hard work you just did...

My sim James had just moved out of the house, and I built him a nice place on a new lot. I decorated it for him and his girlfriend with an additional nursery for any little James's the two might have later on. An hour's worth of work at least went into it.

Anyway, I finish up and send him to go visit his girlfriend MaryKay Shallow and get her to move in with him. Her father answers the door and is cheerful and friendly enough. Then her mother who we was already friends with rushes outside to ask him about his day. That interaction gets cancelled out as his girlfriend hits him with an interaction, as she comes waddling out of the house, pregnant. I hadn't realized their previous tries had been successful.

She autonomously asked him to move in. I didn't know that was even possible, and since the Shallows were all getting up there in age, and she was asking him first, and the family seemed all very warm and receptive, he'd join their family.

Sookielee 14th Jul 2009 9:14 AM

I have a sim Lindsey who is "faithfully" married to Micheal Bachelor. Not once has she ever been encouraged to flirt or do any romantic interactions with other sims. When Micheal's Father died I got the opp from the science lad to take the urn there, I did it and Old Man "ghost" Bachelor became part of the family. Well the first night he was there he and Lindsey were talking, so I went to take care of the other family members. The next thing I know Michael ha a negative moodlet pop up about being cheated on by Lindsey. I center on her and there she is lip locked with her ghostly father-in-law. I quit without saving.

Completely agree... the general lack of full hairstyles is very unpleasant. I don't know why they decided that all sims should have stringy limp hair!

HCAC 14th Jul 2009 4:07 PM

My klepto sim is in the police career but steals stuff every work day from his job! He stole a rug and hearth equipment yesterday.

I discovered ants can walk up the picnick spots in the park.. funny

Adamxx 14th Jul 2009 7:30 PM

I found out that having a sim with the "hopeless romantic" trait allows your character to get woohooed by another sim faster then flirt, which doesn't really make sense to me :P

eldiano 14th Jul 2009 7:32 PM

I've ignored this whole time, but I didn't know that each set of clothes can have a different hairstyle.

Another thing that I've discovered was that even if you have your sim upgrade the radio to the "wire speakers around the house" it'll only play sim music related all over the house, but if you switch to custom music it'll only play it on the room is set to. Quite annoying.

I love the randomness of the game, I've made a powerful family and maxed them out on everything, the head of the household is a rock star. I switched households and went to the community park, out of nowhere she pulls out her cellphone and starts talking to the sim I created about a demo tape!!( You could see his face and the word Demo in a box) I thought it was pretty hilarious.

Also another fantastic thing is that tinkering with items reduces your bills.

I second that, my whole neighborhood of sims are basically wearing the same hairstyle, b/c I only like a few of the styles. I hope someone can find a way to create new hairstyles to download with out overwriting the default styles.

Anyway, back on topic, I discovered that you can't cuddle and watch tv at the same time

Mellowyellow09 15th Jul 2009 4:27 AM

I realized that visitors usually don't show up autonomously? They only come by when I call them over. Someone please make a mod for this!

Birgitte Heuschkel 15th Jul 2009 6:24 AM

I have visitors popping in randomly but it is very, very rare. Entirely too rare. Not people with high relationship scores either, usually ones I met the day before.

I discovered that for some reason my game thinks that Lynne is a perfectly acceptable name for a baby boy, it's a good thing his trait was Evil, he's going to need it.

Sounds like Lynne's parents are insane!

Insane parents give their children the wrong names for their gender
