For the first time I am not finished way ahead of most. Not much needs doing but I haven't felt inspired lately. Maybe tomorrow I'll work on it.
|
I'm only "done" because I gambled on what the last round might be, and it payed off. If there had been any sort of restrictions imposed, I'd be back before square one...
(and... I'm not really done yet either *sigh*) ![]() |
The contest curse strikes again. My turn to have a leak. Something in my kitchen is leaking, puddles and mess galore. Cross your fingers for me the plumbers come today.
|
Hope you get that sorted soon. Leaks can be expensive, too, if you have to pay a water bill. In my part of the world, even if you show you've fixed the problem ASAP, the department won't adjust the bill. Annoying.
Anyway, question. My structure has five floors. Two floors get 15 pictures. Do five floors get 18? To be honest, though, the top floor is a swing-a-cat-floor (very narrow, and meant for one purpose only), and more for decoration than usage. |
I think it is 1 extra for every floor plan, isn't it?
I have a problem with the screenshots myself - although there is only 2 floors, they are huge and the floor plan pics have not come out all that clear. So I took 2 extra floor plan pics of the kitchen and the bathroom but now they are extra. So can we - since it is any size lot and unlimited budget - perhaps get more pics for this round? |
I am moving tomorrow morning..and still up in the air if I will have internet over the weekend..so today is finish packing, make sure I can get internet tomorrow, laundry..it's going to be a very busy 2 days..I'm all ready tired lol..
Good luck everyone on the last entries.. ![]() |
All the best with the move!
|
Good luck with the move, I hope all goes well and smoothly
![]() |
Everyone almost finished and I haven't even started! I feel like I've shot myself in the foot leaving the theme I think is the hardest, Eastern, for last. Now I'm somewhat busy and I don't even have the inspiration for the build yet. I'll try to get something done during this weekend to have any chance of submitting it before the deadline.
As for the judges comments, they seemed to be on the same page as I was - it needed more deco. I had bigger plans when I started building, I felt like it could be my best build. Unfortunately, I quickly realised it would have to have a lot more open space than I wanted or I wouldn't stay within budget. Just the structure of the hotel plus the winery ate up half of the total budget. Judge 3, could it be possible to clarify why the theme felt like a mixture of tropical with country? |
Floorplan pictures don't really count towards the totals. So if you have extra floors or need more than one picture for the same floor level, just lump them in with floorplan shots or name them floorplan 1 etc or say in the description these are all the necessary screenshots. And go ahead and add 5 extra shots allowed for the other shots
![]() @gummilutt @joandsarah @Red Sonja just want you to read this so you know ![]() |

Sure thing. You've got a very modern looking building, which although I am sure does exist in countryside is more commonly seen as a beach hotel type thing. You've got tropical beddings, which sets the tone of the room and makes the rest of the green feel more tropical and palm-y than forest-y and field-y green. You've also got a lot of stone going on, which is more commonly seen in warm areas, since stone doesn't hold in heat very well. Certainly lots of stone buildings in the countryside, but this particular choice of stone and the way you've used it feels more tropical to me. So as with Catherine there are some question marks which means you lose out on the "everything screams theme"-point. Less question marks in your case, but I consulted with gdayars and we decided it didn't feel thoroughly countryside in comparison to other lots in the contest. The other theme point you lost is because of deco, since there really isn't enough of it to really say it has theme-appropriate deco. |
I think I've finished the build.
Ah yes, too many pictures again and re-takes needed. You'd think 10 pics would be enough but nooo.... Will have to put 2 together again. |
You did see where I added more screenshots for this round right? @yavannatw

ROUND FOUR ... Aqueous Island Lighthouse (inspired by Isla Aguada Lighthouse, Mexico): Tropical (REVISION)
![]() First, since it would be horribly rude for me to claim any credit for this design, the inspiration picture: http://www.campeche.travel/en/isla-aguada-lighthouse/ The lighthouse in this picture dates from the late 19th/early 20th century. The earliest records mention 1907. I really was kidding when I said that each entry seems to take me about 30 years back. I had no idea that this contest would keep taking me back in time. This is not an exact recreation. There was no way of putting roofing on the building with the tower in place. The angel statue's history is a figment of my imagination, as is most of the inside. I have never been here. But when I saw the picture of this lighthouse, I knew this had to be the build I wanted to use to inspire me. I hope I did justice to the original structure. The yellow and pink squares near the lighthouse light are additional overhead and floor lighting. I tried to make the light nice and bright. The name of the lighthouse is a play on the name of the inspiration lighthouse (Watery Island). This will be the second building for my custom tropical vacation hood, The first is the beach version of the bungalow motel. It is on a flattened lot. I did stick a few soft dunes on the beach, but did not want to go too overboard on that and make it difficult for Sims to get around. There are small one-tile areas, but there was no way I could fix them without making the tower portion really large, and I enlarged it quite a bit already, as you can see from the inspiration picture. There is also a window with a ladder against it. Take out the window, and the tower would not look very good from the outside. Take out the ladder, and how can a Sim get up there? So yes ... the ladder is against a window. It could have been worse. I tried the Salix one-tile stairs against it, and you barely saw the window at all! Nevertheless, routing is excellent. I did not use beams in the building like the inspiration picture. They just didn't work with the design. I tried. My Sims seem to enjoy their new lighthouse. I hope you will enjoy it as well. Extra Shots. I calculated that I would have 22 shots total. Five floors, front, back and price are eight shots. For a one-floor building, ten extra shots. Add four for each extra floor. Total: 22. If I can't add (quite possible), please let me know! I can delete some shots. NOTES: This is as good as it's going to be. With the exception of a grammatical error I fix at the last moment ... done! |
Sorry for double-posting, but I'm stuck.
I realized stupidly that the original building did NOT have a fireplace. In the other photos I used as a reference, it looked like there was some sort of fireplace chimney there. I was mistaken. A tropical building probably wouldn't have a fireplace. How silly I was. To say I feel a little stupid is an understatement! Now I can approach this a few ways: 1. This building is BASED on a structure. My lot does not necessarily have to be in the same geographical location, and some tropical areas can get cool; particularly near mountains. 2. There are actually some Costa Rican houses, albeit modern, that DO have fireplaces. Some people like fireplaces! 3. I can put something else there. It would mean retaking lots of pictures (the ones that had the chimney). I'm no stranger to that. Only ... what? I thought of an iron stove, but the chimney looks weird on the building. Also, Sims might be inclined to try cooking on it. Putting an invisible fence will probably get stompy Sims. Museum pieces ... I'm having no luck finding a barometer, sextant, large lighthouse light (though Sims Resource DOES have a rotating one. I went with a stationary one.), or anything like those ... in short, anything that isn't an anchor, captain's wheel or oars. I have pottery, but that's kind of "meh". I like interactive exhibits, but there aren't many for lighthouses! Maybe a piano ... musical entertainment was not uncommon then, and Sims and play it. Or an acoustic guitar (though I remember having issues with the one or two I tried). A loom? Well, you wouldn't actually produce weaving with PBK's loom, but your Sims may be occupied trying it. So far, that's the one that has some appeal. The original inspiration has lots of light house pictures. No help there! GAH! I hate to rush this, but I need to get this done a lot sooner than the deadline. I will probably not feel up to doing it after a couple of days. Anyway, there will probably be retakes, but you got the gist of what I'm offering! EDIT ... well ... I found a compass! And I can use papers on Maxis shelves as a sort of exhibit item: http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...hp?f=172&t=6150, And ... whoa? A converted Myshuno game? A drafting table might be useful ... Sims can try plotting courses or something? It's late so I'll have to make fixes tomorrow, but don't be surprised if there are new pics tomorrow. In the meantime, any new ideas would be great, thanks! (As a playalong, I am NOT going to be passing by anyone score-wise!) At least I fixed the other design flaw (let's just say that Sims would be awfully, awfully hot and wet in the office area. While fixing it, I managed to stick a ladder there instead of the step-stairs, and cleared more of that problem window, so it doesn't look that bad now ... and my Sims should be nice and cool. |
My tropical house had a fireplace. With climate change you never know when you might need it and it's cosy.
You're too much of perfectionist. :p |
I think so, yes. I am. I even researched the foliage to make sure that this lot could conceivably have the plants I used in real life! And I think it might be a case of if I fix the fireplace, I'll wind up with worse problems. I like the fireplace. It gives that area some warmth ... and not literally!
Reading the Costa Rican ad, some people simply like fireplaces, even in tropical areas. It's not as if it's never been done (it has ... many times), and people were probably doing it back then as well. But that Myshuno game might be worth a couple of retakes ... ![]() |
Round 5 - Mountains/Country: Community Lot on a Cape Winelands farm
20 Attachment(s)
"Cyril, while we are here in the Kalahari, can we go down South and visit the Cape Winelands?"
"Well, why not? After all, many of those farms have lots perfect for sims interested in art and books and stuff. And then there is the unique Cape Dutch Architecture too Not to mention that they produce some of the world's best wines. You would love it there." Cheslin smiled, because he knew he would. So off they went to the Cape Winelands. In 1652, the Netherlands colonized the southern point of Africa in order to build a vegetable garden. The trade route from the Netherlands to India went past it, and not only was it around halfway, it also forced many ships to stop there anyway, due to the weather - it was known as the Cape of Storms. When the sailors started dying due to a lack of fresh vegetables, a vegetable garden was needed. Vegetable and fruit farms were established then, but in the 1670's another group of farmers came to the Cape. They were the French Huguenots, Protestants from France, and they started the wine farming in South Africa. The first Cape Dutch house was built in the 1670's as well, designed by a mathematician, not an architect. The style quickly became popular, but ages later, in the era of British colonization, many of these buildings had to make way for high rise buildings, especially in the city. The Cape Dutch style remained popular, though, and new buildings have always been built. But it is ONLY in Cape Town, Stellenbosch and on the old farms and towns in the Cape Winelands where the original buildings survived. As the wine farms grew into large estates, more buildings were added when needed. These days, when you go through the valleys and the mountains of the Western Cape, you can visit numerous wine farms, and there will be all kinds of things: restaurants, art galleries, conference centres, wedding venues, museums, and for the old ones, a library, where the history of the wine farm is preserved. Spier farm has 21 different gables on different buildings built during the different eras. The wine cellar is a separate building as well. Many of these farms are heritage sites today. The features of Cape Dutch Architecture: 1. 2 to 4 gables, originally specially designed, and higher than the roofs. Gables range from simple to extremely intricate. 2. Painted white outside, with thatched roofs with (green, blue or brown) shattered windows 3. Normally a high staircase at the front and the back - originally because of the mountainy areas 4. The garden is often a mix of formal and informal 5. The front and back door are directly opposite each other - there is a huge chandelier at the front, and walking through, one can see both sides of the interior. 6. Many of them have a fountain or statue in front of the stairs, you walk around it, and the fountain can be seen from the inside as well. 7. There is normally a back and a front porch. 8. They have wooden floors, inside the walls are paneling and 9. Can have one or two storeys 10. Furniture is present that have been accumulated over the years. I think that the Cape Dutch Architecture and the Winelands here, and especially the fact that the two are combined, makes it pretty unique. I have posted some pictures under the spoiler of examples; they are NOT in the thumbnails, though - but at the end of the post: Welcome to the Winelands, then : Rosenview: ![]() Show Pictures of Required Pics Other Pics: Examples: Edit: Added wikileaks links for the judges: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Dutch_architecture http://www.sahistory.org.za/dated-e...s-arrive-cape-0 http://www.traveller24.com/Explore/...-farms-20150816 https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2...t-wine-estates/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Cape_wine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groot_Constantia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vergelegen https://www.tripadvisor.co.za/Attra...stern_Cape.html https://www.tripadvisor.co.za/Attra...stern_Cape.html https://www.drivesouthafrica.co.za/...e-western-cape/ Here are some websites of some of the wine farms: https://www.grootconstantia.co.za/ http://www.vergelegen.co.za/ http://www.spier.co.za/ http://www.lanzerac.co.za/ http://www.laborieestate.co.za/ Of course, there are many, many more. No @yavannatw the floorplans are under the heading of "take what you need to get it all shown correctly"
the 5 shots mentioned afterward mean you are allowed 5 EXTRA shots besides the necessary ones ![]() ![]() |
Wow. justpetro! I think you pulled out all the stops for this one!
![]() I know you brought up Cape Dutch architecture in the last contest. Great to see an example of it for your Sims. I'm going to rip out the fireplace on a copy of the lot (you have much more leeway to place lots with flattened lots) and see if the Myshuno globe would work OK as an interactive exhibit (using move_objects, I believe). It would look really weird on the rooftop, now that I think about it. I should explain that I found those pictures in the link long AFTER I made the fireplace. If I like what I see, the exhibit doesn't impede the flow of visitors (could be a problem with indoor Myshuno players), and I think it looks OK, I'll reshoot. I'm going to have to work fast, though! |
Thanks, gazania
![]() ![]() I don't really understand about the fireplace. It rains in the tropics and it is bound to be cold at times - I live in a subtropical area myself, between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Equator. It gets quite cold at times because it can easily rain for two weeks without stopping and there simply isn't any sun. I have lived here for 24 years and I have yet to see a winter without at least 10 days of persisting soft rain. Perhaps there are areas in the world where it doesn't get cold at all, but I am not so sure about that. |
Justpetro, any chance you'd be willing to add some wiki links or something to the history of this? I feel I'll need to do some research to judge you properly since it's totally foreign to me, and I'm guessing you'll be a better judge than I am on which info is sound.

Most of our buildings were built since the 1940's, after the war, with a huge influx of builds post-Disney (1971 and later). Many of them are wood, or wood with stucco, progressing into cement block - LOTS of block built in the 70-80's! What "stone" there is is usually faux stone (Fay's Fieldstone) because our ground here is just sand and any stone would have to be imported. Now, if you go all the way back to the Spanish occupation days (St Augustine) then you will find a lot of Coquina builds (a cement-like stone made out of seashells) - but that's not really what is meant by "stone" is it? RE: Fireplaces in tropical builds. YES! Fireplaces are nice. It gets down into the 30's on some winter nights, and it's better to just burn some wood than crank up the furnace. Many historical places also used fireplaces for cooking... ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing curb appeal ![]() |
Sure, and nowhere in that sentence does it say every warm area in the world has more stone than anything else
![]() I agree that each individual thing that was slightly off is quite minor and could possibly be overlooked, but if you flip the coin and say, what makes this feel country? Not a whole lot. If you are going to go sparse deco you need to make sure everything else conveys the message, and in this case it doesn't. |
Presence of stone and brick and so on is probably going to reflect the local geology/geography than be strictly to do with climate. If stone isn't readily available locally, you won't tend to get it in the local builds since it's expensive to transport.

Oh, dear. What to do about that fireplace, then?
![]() I FINALLY figured out what was causing the blue area on Sunni's (RIP) Myshuno globe. Did MASSIVE moving around, including enclosing the anchor because I would hate to see a Myshuno-playing Sim back right into a piece of pointy metal (ouch). Added a display case with a compass and old papers (also from Sunni's Wizard Tower set). Moved a coffee table to the wall to eliminate a one-tile issue. Added a couple of more pieces from the Wizard set on both floors. Even made an "aged" photo of the lighthouse (it's in the pic below). If this lighthouse was purely a figment of my imagination, i would probably have left well enough alone. But if the real place doesn't have a fireplace, it seems silly to put one in the Sim version. And the Globe Myshuno is so,so cool. Sunni made so many cool things. It would tie in with a museum much better ... visitors could learn countries, oceans, other places with lighthouses, currents, famous shipwrecks. And it's definitely Sims catnip. They love it! Don't go by my word! Hasty game shot below. Oh ... and I think routing works much better now. This is not going to be easy for me, is it? "Did you ever have to make up your mind? And pick up one build and leave the other behind? Twenty two new shots ... a chore, one will find. Did you ever have to make up your mind?" (Sorry, John Sebastian) It appears another judge will have to make her own deliberation before the real judges look at this. ![]() ![]() EDIT ... Went with the Myshuno. I have a weak spot for interactive activities at community lots. Retook all the pictures in case I missed something. Missed something anyway. Took more retakes. Hope I caught everything. Wrong part of the world, but I now can't get the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" out of my mind. Great. Other than fixing a grammatical error if I see one, I'm done with my entry! Finally! |

Final round play along: Eastern; Moroccan museum
23 Attachment(s)
Well, I'm very glad this round was unlimited budget!
I present my Moroccan museum, featuring antiquities from the region, typical furniture, art and pottery. The museum has an audiovisual room to present films about the history of the area and a very small library for researchers. There is a restaurant with al fresco dining, a souvenir shop and a walled garden. But enough of the blurb. Pics follow (and, as evidenced by the merging of two in one, I had a hard time narrowing down the number). I couldn't take a pic of absolutely everything or from every angle, so no toilets (they are on both floors) or kitchen pics. ![]() Required pics Ground floor Stairs lead up to the mezzanine floor. Head back downstairs to the souvenir shop and restaurant The restaurant leads outside to the outdoor eating area and the walled garden And lastly, a couple of pics that inspired me |
I have to say I am really impressed. When I heard the challenge this round my brain was just a big empty "Ehm...." so I had no idea where you guys would go, but you've come up with some really great stuff. Really REALLY not going to be easy to judge this time.
And on that note, quick update on my situation. Sadly leak was bad enough to damage the wooden floor, so I'm now looking at a partial or full re-do of floor, and since I live in a one room apartment that's not going to be an easy project. Countertop also got pretty messed up and will need replacing, and no point replacing faucet until countertop can be changed. Floor is the real oh-god-please-no-situation though ![]() ![]() ![]() |
(((HUGS)))) hope things get better quick with all that! @gummilutt

I find myself looking through the additional shots for the entries in this last round again and again already. Historical lots and historical museums particularly interest me since ... well ... I'm a history buff. So much detail in these lots! Yavannatw, I can almost feel the hushed atmosphere in the rooms and hear the sound of the fountain in the garden. And I can imagine spending a great deal of time looking at all those exhibits in the rooms!
I think I'm going to be writing this for each entry posted ... wow! There will be many "wows" to come, I know. Lots of imagination in this contest in general. |

Round 4: Snowcap Springs - Mountain/Country
19 Attachment(s)
Round 4: Themed Activity Lot
![]() For many years, Three Lakes has been a great summer vacation spot. However there's not many options when it comes to cold-season activities - the fishing lakes freeze up, the log rolling water is frigid, even extended outdoor axe throwing or flapjack-eating can lower a sim into the blue temperature gauges. Wanderlust Inc has opened a new venture that is the premiere spot for moderately cool to cold-day activities in the moutnains. Named for the geothermal water pools at the base of the mountains, Snowcap Springs is fun place with plenty of activities on a cold day - indoor and outdoor. The property consists of two structures - the Caffeine Stand that is also connected to the bathrooms, easy access for a bladder hopped up on cappuccino and also changing rooms for those going in and out of the springs. The bigger structure is the Club House, a place to take a break and partake in some activities and warm up. For outdoor activity, there is a large ice skating rink, a forest hiking trail for bird watchers to the right, and two hot spring pools to relax in. |
Good work, all of you - that is a very charming lot, Charmful

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!
I forgot all about the theme-dealie! I'm gonna miss out on a sticker ![]() *deep breath* OK. Calm down. *deep breath* Maybe I can rework something from here... Which one did I use the least amount of CC on? GAH! ![]() |
Orders more wine for Cat.
|
Given that the game refuses to build anything higher than 8 floors outside of the original 11x11 foundation, I'm gonna go ahead and change my build to just the one tower. I'm seriously doubting if I'm going to finish it on time, though.
|
The case of wine for @Yvelotic2001 has just arrived
![]() |
I pretty much gave up on the theme. The ONLY lot I can use that isn't CC'd to the hilt was the original prototype for my bungalow motel, which was a beach lot. That had very little CC. But I structurally changed it so, so much to accommodate Freezy and the bellhop that at this point, it's pretty unusable. And Freezy-proofed or not (I probably should write "Freezy-resistant" ... there is no way to 100% Freezy-proof a lot, as far as I know, and the best i got would be around 98% or so!), bungalow lots are great for me, but probably not for others. They're a little old-fashioned.
And after all the rushing, it turned out my treatment got delayed for a week because I need to build up my platelets. Oh, well. At least I submitted all the entries. |
Is there a reason about CC somewhere that I, between drinking too much wine and other things, may have missed? Why is both Cat and Gazania worried about CC? (Going back to drinking, worrying).
|
I thought ... I could be mistaken ... that Cat was talking about the travel/adventure theme, not the contest. I am not crazy about trying to upload a lot here with 50 cc items! I think Naftali (my uploaded dorm) had about 20 items of CC (recolors included), and I thought the list was long for that one! Many here, though, have no problem with a huge CC list, be they uploaders or downloaders.
|
*swoops in* WHO SAID WINE
I'd be making great progress if I didn't decide every few days that I hated what I was building and raze it to the ground. ![]() IT WILL GET DONE I SAY |
You have close to 3 days left Cat, you can do it! Go everyone!
![]() |
Yes - the CC 'worry' is about including it in an upload for the travel/adventure theme. It takes me hours (like, 8 - 12 hours!) to track down all the CC I've used with all of it's links, etc, so I can upload something here on MTS. Maybe I'm just slow - or disorganized - or confuzzled... or had too much wine?
Anyway - I reworked my Ryokan (took out most of it's CC) and changed a few other things around. I actually like it better now. I will be uploading that before the end of the month for the Adventure Theme. So, I will get my sticker after all *whew!* ![]() And I did some work on my final rounds presentation for this contest today too - so, that should be up before the deadline ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I do a spreadsheet of cc as I download it so I know exactly where I got it, creator name, and what the file name is. Not helpful for stuff I downloaded before creating it though.
|
I see
![]() More wine then? |
Good for you Cat! Getting something done for theme. We had big plans, but first I had computer troubles then Jo had computer troubles, and real life has been busy about getting in the way. So I am going to catch this theme on the flip side and work at getting a sticker when we do the "theme to get stickers you missed" theme.
|
Same here gdayars. Had completely forgotten about theme until Cat's post, and with everything going on not worth even thinking about it. So will postpone my idea and hopefully maybe get to it when the past-themes-theme happens.

Between this, my body not being cooperative and trying to figure out just why the 4 gb patch openly refuses to work with Happy Holidays, I think I might want a few liquid refreshments from the juice bar! Keep this up, and I might even indulge in a bland cucumber with my Sims. And bland cucumbers have never been my thing! (For those who don't know, there is a certain drug mod that produces what are euphemistically known as bland cucumbers. They aren't cucumbers.)
I looked at my lot files. The smallest is the strip mall restaurant with 24 CC items. Since many don't do strip malls (So suburban!), I don't think that will be a hot number. Let's face it ... my wanderings have been more of a desire than a lust! |
I would like to formally apologize to the judge who hates orange for my landscaping decisions.

I'm done building, and about 60% done with landscaping! Probably would have finished last night but my cat got out and I had to go look for him, lest he get eaten by coyotes. Barring any more cat-astrophes, my entry will be up either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Bowie (of Bowie knife fame, not Ziggy Stardust) and Davy Crockett (you know, the guy who caught him a bear when he was only 3?) both died in that battle, defending the Alamo against the Mexican General Santa Anna. It was a brutal battle, and we lost. However, in a subsequent battle near Houston, with the battle cry, "Remember the Alamo!" we won. To learn more about the history of the Alamo, please visit the Chronology Tab of The Alamo website. Now... all that being said... this lot is "The AlaSIMo" - it's meant to be a fun place for sims to visit while they're visiting desert climes. I tried to recreate the Mission Church, Long Barracks, and Livestock Yards, with correct proportions/dimensions/etc as the Sims 2 game would allow. I also tried to use as little CC as I could, which is why I did not use CC crumbled plaster wallpaints, etc... This build is a mix of chronological aesthetics. Pictures of this area from way back in 1836, make it look like a desert - so I made my version in the desert. The church building, originally constructed in 1757, was all but demolished during the battles. It's world-famous rounded façade wasn't added until 1850. Don't even get me started on AC - yes, I know it's HOT in Texas. Thankfully my simmies don't really mind the heat all that much - there are plenty of places for them to get a cool drink and sit in the shade. I play-tested this lot with the Grunts, and in spite of them being "them", they enjoyed everything - and were quite happy to stay there all night if I had let them. (Note to self - playtest with a happier family next time. *sheesh!* These guys have waaay too many problems goin' on!) Oh, and, yes the 'climbing fort' thingamagig works on the angle, I have a picture if needed. Anyway... Thank you so much Gdayars for hosting this contest, it has been a lot of fun :lovestruc and I definitely learned a lot more about building "vacation" lots. Thank you Judges for all your hard work (I'm so glad I wasn't judging this time around!) It's not an easy task - and you all did a great job ![]() Thank you my fellow contestants - what a creative bunch ya'll are! And friendly! And knowledgeable - I've learned a lot from all ya'll - thank you for sharing ![]() |
Exellent work, Cat
![]() ![]() @Yvelotic2001 - you are indeed safe from the orange disliking judge ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Oh my word! Cat that is AWESOME!
|
LOL, Petro
![]() Yvelotic2001 - It was Meeeeee! I was the judge with the aversion to orange. ![]() ...I was gonna include in my write-up that I'm related to Davy Crockett. But, I ran out of steam... |
First, that is beautiful and recognizable, Cat, good job.
Second, I'm going to put my correction of the inaccuracies of your historical and geographical account under spoilers, because nobody gets paid enough to listen to me rant about Texas History. It has to be a volunteer deal. Third, seeing it makes me regret even more the deep weariness that has blocked me from even starting the Stock Show and Rodeo Fairground I had envisioned. I downloaded CC for it and everything, but I just can't. Good thing I'm only a play-along. It would've been awesome, though, trust me; in it's own peculiar way. |
That lot is amazing, Cat!
|
I am back..sort of..got moved Friday and was supposed to have internet on Friday afternoon..and am just now getting it on..I am so far behind on everything..
I am hoping you will leave this open for a while..it's going to take me a while to get thing sorted out and get my baring in order..then I can start on the last entry..I know I am just a play along but I would really like to finish.. |
I totally agree, Peni! Which is why I put the big-ol "back peddle" on in my "Now... all that being said... this lot is "The AlaSIMo" paragraph.
And, my version of it is set in the desert. ![]() I'm just super-psyched that you could recognize it at all ![]() |
@Gdayars (and all) - I'm hoping it will be ok to submit a bit, I think, late? I am building but work is being demanding and I got home tonight at 9.30pm and am very tired. I actually fell asleep at my desk yesterday evening so progress is a bit slow. I have built the lot and I'm at the decorating stage but I think it might be Friday rather than Thursday if that's ok.
|
That is fine. I suspect there will be a few others that are late as well

Round 4 - Eastern - Monastery

Since I've learned so much in this contest, I thought it would make a fitting end to create a lot that in itself is a monument to learning. The Hall of Enlightenment Monastery is a place for young adult sims to study, meditate, grow in community, and get their degrees because SURPRISE it is actually a dorm.
![]() I'll try to add more commentary in the morning; I just wanted to at least get the pics up before calling it a night. It's past midnight and I am le tired. |
Contrary to what some of my young Sims might try to tell you, I'm not old enough to remember the Alamo, but one of my really early memories is of watching, in a local Scottish cinema, Davy Crockett die there in the 1955 Walt Disney film. (It was probably 1956 before the film got to our local cinema, so I'd likely be 4 or 5.) It made quite an impression on my young mind; I fear the moths have long eaten my Davy Crockett hat, but I think I've still got my (plastic) Davy Crockett gun somewhere. I haven't really been following this contest, so I've chosen quite a nostalgic moment to drop by. Thanks Cat for reviving some of my formative memories! Yes, I think General Buzz would want to take his boys there to imbue them with a sense a sense of history, patriotism and duty.
My abiding memories of the closing scenes of that film (I haven't seen the film since) are of Mexican soldiers trying to reach the flat roof of the building with scaling ladders, and being pushed back by the defenders until the latter are overwhelmed by sheer weight of numbers, and all killed. So now I'm wondering if one of the buildings you've included is the one where my childhood hero, Davy Crockett, died. Sorry for going just a little off-topic. |
@gdayars I am likely to be late as well
![]() @Freelala I love your entry, all those different levels and the bridges - gorgeous! |

Yup...count me in the probably lates. It's just a big lot, 90% cc and I still haven't found everything I need (most but there's a few I haven't and I'll probably end up making a last minute wall covering). I'm trying, it's just not looking so good for tonight. We'll see, but I woke up with 10x worse than normal back pain today and sitting at the computer is not helping. |

I'm so glad it brought back fond memories :lovestruc - I always wanted one of those hats! I've been missing your posts this contest - thank you for popping in ![]() No, the place my ancestor Davy died has no 'building' left to it... It should be just to the right of the green in front of the church. I did, however, include a ladder leaning next to the broken wall entrance to the Long Barrack/Cantina. Maybe that sparked your memory? Freelala - What a gorgeous "dorm"! Great idea - I wanna visit! |
I can't help it, truly. Just be glad I made my saving throw against telling Crockett's death story, which is far far more complex and tragic than it is in the movies. That's standard for Texas history - fiction tends to simplify it and make it far less interesting and meaningful. |
I'm glad you feel that way about it, Peni
![]() I tend to really love old buildings/architecture - to the detriment of the people who live/lived there (be that a fault or not, it's how I'm wired.) LOL! I've known for a long time that I need to be holed up in a crumbling down castle/abbey in some remote part of the world (Scotland, preferably) with unlimited funds and an internet connection... It's never gonna happen, but a girl can dream! That would be pure Heaven for me ![]() |
I just had a thought...If cats were to overrun Catherine's lot it could be called...the 'Meowl-amo'
|
Guys I realize we are at the end of the time for the contest, but with so many late, and quite frankly I am not feeling well, I think we will just extend time to Saturday, (please judges don't kill me lol)
|
Thank you, @gdayars. Feel better soon :lovestruc (nearest I could find to a heart!)
|
No worries Gina. feel better.
|
No problem with extensions Gina, more important that you don't over-extend yourself. So on my account you can postpone as long as necessary.
Water damage is under control, and it sounds like it's going to take a while before the chaos-part kicks in, so it looks like I'll be able to judge after all ![]() |

Thanks - I think. I've also developed a cold. I'll try and finish today but I'm feeling lousy. However, I don't want to hold anything up so please go ahead without me if I don't make it. I want to try and finish what I'm doing and will probably upload pictures once I'm done but don't expect the lot to be judged. Sorry about that. I'm having a bit of an unforeseen difficult time. |
I am making headway, but am out this evening. I hope to get it up tonight, when I get back.
|
I'm also trying, and getting somewhere, but I too don't know if I'll be able to finish and post today. We'll just have to see. But I also, like Maxon don't want to hold anyone up, so carry without me if I'm not done in time. I can probably have it up sometime tomorrow, but I still can't guarantee. My back is still horribly uncooperative.
|
Well I am sort of better. At least I am back online!
Will get started on linking the lots and getting the judging sheets up tonight. I said started, it will probably be tomorrow. |
Oh for Pete's sake...I'm this close to just throwing in the towel completely. Now my AGS I was building in wont start at all. I've done everything I know to do to fix it. And it just wont start. It starts to show in task manager, and does the "cursor turns to disk when it's about to start" thing, then just quits. Hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow, or rather later today I guess. But I'm beyond done for now.
|
I'm sorry for being late, but I had a busy week and I also got sick Friday, so I didn't have the will to build. Nonetheless, my lot is finished, I just need to take pictures and post them here, which I'll do in a moment.

Round 4 Entry - Eastern Pagoda

Bell Tower
Quote:
![]() Seven hundred years ago, two nine-story towers were built opposite each other in Ecruteak City. The towers were built to foster friendship and hope between Pokémon and Sims. The view from atop the towers was said to be magnificent. The eastern tower was said to awaken Pokémon, while the western tower was where Pokémon were said to rest. Ho-Oh roosted at the top of the Bell Tower to the east. However, about 150 years ago, a lightning bolt struck the western tower. It was engulfed in flames that raged for three days. A sudden downpour finally put out the blaze, but it had already burned to the ground. Three nameless Pokémon perished in the fire, but Ho-Oh descended from the sky and resurrected them. The Pokémon are said to embody three powers: the lightning that struck the tower, the fire that burned it, and the rain that extinguished the fire. When the Pokémon appeared, they struck terror in those who saw their rise. The three Pokémon, knowing their own power, fled, running like the wind off into the grassland. Only a selected few are allowed to cross the gate and enter Bellchime Trail, the path that leads to Bell Tower. One must prove their worth to Ho-Oh in order to be permitted inside the trail. The trees in Bellchime Trail are autumn-coloured year-round. This building was inspired by the Bell Tower from Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver - named Tin Tower in G/S/C - and by the Bellchime Trail, the path that leads to it. One of the hardest aspects of building something from a Pokémon game is that dimensions don't quite add up. The tower, from the outside, looks like it would be a 3x3 building, but inside it is more of a 7x7 (Tardis much?), so I decided to go for a 5x5 design. Also, it was impossible for me to build the rooftop level (where you fight Ho-Oh in the games) as I would like because, like I said in some of my previous posts regarding this build, I was getting a weird message from the game when building anything outside of the foundation (meaning I couldn't CFE the last floor as I'd wish). Since the Bell Tower seems to be based on two temples in Kyoto, the Ginkaku-ji and the To-ji, I would say this build is inspired by those two temples as well. I didn't take non-floorplan screenshots of the inside of the tower as there isn't anything of interest there. It is just a bunch of ladders and statues (just pretend they're Ho-Oh statues, it's the closest I could get ![]() Description was adapted from the Bulbapedia page of both the Bell Tower and Bellchime Trail. |

Round 4 - Tropical theme
Stilt Hotel Please note that I have used an invisible fence on the chalets by the lounger. I have also used an invisible host podium in the restaurant. All the chalets are decorated exactly the same. Apologies for being so late! ![]() |
Lovely, Karen!!! Very tropical indeed
![]() And great job, Yvelotic2001, too!!! *whew* AND... I got my Ryokan ready and posted - in time to get my sticker! *happy dance, happy dance* (I just hope I didn't leave anything important out!) ![]() ![]() ![]() |
