I was angry to learn that almost all the plants in build mode are 2D. Or whatever that thing is called when the 2D picture always rotates to face you to make it look like 3D. Seriously, they couldn't have put just a little effort into them?

Twizler 19th Jul 2009 4:11 AM

I just learned how to sign autographs, it wasn't as fun as it looked on the intro movie.... It felt like a mini-game.

Syphon8 19th Jul 2009 6:10 PM

I learned that you can befriend someone, learn their profession is magician, marry them, suddenly their job is gone, divorce them, and it suddenly comes back as magician.

That's something a lot of games do. If you played Oblivion you'd notice it did that as well. Some games even did that trick with smoke, fires and such. There's a technology called SpeedTree I believe that does this. Some game companies use this to produce their trees. I would be welling to bet that EA used SpeedTree or something similar to it to make the plants in this game. It's more noticeable on the little plants and shrubbery but the trees also have that happening.

I discovered you can move plants that are already planted. Something TS2 wouldn't allow, if I remember correctly.

That was actually pretty handy for me when I discovered it, because I'd rigged a sprinkler system that didn't reach a plant I had way off to the side.

I also learned that if you set the rubber duck item on the rim of the tub, a bathing Sim would play with it. I found that terribly cute.

I learned that this doesn't always work. I had a teenager who was best friends with his father but enemies with his mother. The father was a family-oriented good guy in a rough patch with his evil snob wife. The son tried to ask his father to break up with his mother, and got a huge relationship drop and a "What? Sorry, if you're asking me to chose between you and Theresa, I chose Theresa."

That didn't go over well with his hot-headed son.

I learned that freckles are based on hair color. I gave my orange haired, dark blue skinned man freckles and they came out bright orange. O.O;;

Aree 20th Jul 2009 6:03 AM

I thought that all the freckles were orange regardless of hair or skin.. but I've never tried it out. I should give it a shot.

stygia2002 20th Jul 2009 6:24 AM

LOL...I've never messed with freckles in my game since I have red hair and have been trying to avoid freckles in RL for the past 30 years! I'll have to check that out, it sounds funny.

They might be orange regardless, I'm not sure on that because my self sim, who has freckles and brown hair, seemed to have light brown freckles and not bright orange.

I discovered you can move houses while playing the active family. I wanted to move my active household, but couldn't find the option for it in edit town. So I decided to play them a bit in their old house and think about my problem later. Then when I was trying to make my newly wed wife quit her job, I noticed the move option on her phone. It was fun seeing your sims just exiting the house, going to a taxi, driving to the new house I picked for them. What was also fun was automatically having their old furniture in the family inventory. I didn't have to manually pack them like in ts2.

Also I discovered the worry moodlets neurotic sims get when using the stove or the sink. They have to check it to get rid of the bad moodlets

Pontiac76 20th Jul 2009 7:57 AM

I found out that you can WOOHOO with ex's and no jealousy occurs. This is a big bonus when you want to spawn Sims with three women Sims in the same house in one day.

I discovered that one of my sims gets the option "manage dead" when she visits the graveyard. I've clicked on it but haven't figured out exactly what it means. Anyone had this happen? She's the only sim I've gotten this option on.

Killmur 20th Jul 2009 10:13 AM

I discovered that when a sim is giving birth at home and the maid walks in they freak out. It's rather hilarious.

You can manage the dead when you click on the musoleum in the graveyard.

This only happens if you have a job at the mausoleum. It opens up the mausoleum inventory and allows you to bring home specific remains. But I believe it only has those sims in it that you knew when they died.

Techno Beansprout 20th Jul 2009 5:03 PM

I discovered that when making twins in CAS and only altering the sex, when they age, the boy gets the same female hairstyle as his sister. It's so weird to see a little boy with pigtails...

You don't need a masoleum job, there just needs to be someone recently dead that you knew who died while you were in that active household that knew them.

yes you're right it will do that if your video card/chipset is something else other than nividia or ati. (If you have a Intel chipset for example most laptops do, it will trigger this warning.)

it will say somthing like this:
The Sims 3 has detected a unknown video card. Your graphics settings have been set to high as possible.

I have a bfg nividia 6200 oc with 256 mb of dedicated video memory and it runs just fine.

Things I recently learned on sims 3:

1.Having a coward marry a ghost gives hours of fun watching her faint. Even better when she has kids.

2. You can use fences for more then fencing a yard, you can create awnings (I'm slow ) on that end, the smaller paintings make great outdoor house decorations too!

3. Mods will not work until I don't pay attention. Male pregnancy never worked, I gave up and a few days later I thought I hit WHOO HOO, and well. IT WORKS!

4. You cannot kill your Sim by making him over stressed and lonely.

Ohhh this makes me want to play with that option more now! I wonder if my sim would just keep breaking up with his wife!

In my case, the husband had the highest relationship with his wife and daughter...and the wife had a great relationship with her daughter too! Daughter asks to break up with Alice... and Louis says "Yea, you're right...our relationship isn't really working out.."

took me forever to get them back together!

What did I discover today? As part of his job, my sim must dig through people's garbages! Interesting....

uh, there's pedophiles in the game? O_O

Aree 20th Jul 2009 10:40 PM

I discovered trying to play an entire neighborhood is fun as hell. Switching between active households with awesome mod is great. I've been able to cause all kinds of drama. I moved in my favorite Riverview families and my favorite CAS simsfrom the bin, and purged the families I didn't like from Sunset Valey and let everyone loose.

Also, when a sim is doing some action that relates to a trait of theirs, that trait starts flashing in the traits panel.
