Hey all! I haven't played in a good long while but decided I missed the sims 3 and started another random legacy since I can't get to my old saves yet. I had a question I rolled 'Hands off' but my sim is a freelance scientist so the only way to make money is selling space rocks and insects and i can't sell those at the consignment so what should I do? I know she could Hack as well but believe it or not i got the with help roll and the secondary career is also freelance scientist so i have her brother as the hacker. I could re-roll but I'd rather not use my one Re-roll on the first generation.

You can donate bugs at the science building for money. Not sure if there is anything like that for rocks though. . .

I always strike hands off from my list of possible rolls, because it would drive me insane, so I don't have any experience with such situations, therefore I don't have a workaround... so! When you insinuate that there is no workaround, I'm inclined to believe you. That would mean hands off is completely incompatible with your careers.

Reroll for misc fun without "spending" your free reroll.

Thanks so far I haven’t seen anything like that for the rocks and right now my game isn’t spawning many bugs. She’s caught one set of butterflies and that’s it. This generation is destined to be poor it seems. At least gen 2 has a decent roll 🤷🏻‍♀️

I may have to do that. I rolled hands off for gen 2 as well I may have to strike it out also because it’s incredibly annoying!

I don't think hands off is the same as not being able to use your sim's inventory? The collect interaction would pick items up, and if you want something displayed in the home you'll have to drag it out of inventory, so I don't see why you can't drag it from the inventory to recollect it, or even to sell it if there's no other way. I think of hands off as being more or a chore-oriented challenge, where the sims have to fix the broken sink before they can do the dirty dishes, and you can't just drag the dishes to the trash or delete them. Using a similar example, if your sim is in the culinary career track they get that annoying 'bring dishes home to wash' opportunity, you can't just leave the dirty dishes in their inventory and let them have a 'disgusted' moodlet for the rest of their lives. If I'm even understanding you question right.

But it's funny you bring this up, because the update I'm working on now made me realize that my freelance scientist sim has a horrible personality for bug catching and if I roll it again I'll probably choose something else for them to study even if it makes them less money (because I want their personality to drive their work or vice versa). But that's a side topic. I guess what I'm saying is, if you have to tweak something so you can play the challenge and still have it be random but you have some actual fun playing the generation, you should think about doing it. I'm not going to strike anything off my potential rolls because I want to see what other things it's randomly paired with, so even if I rolled hands off and it sounds horrible, I might treat all the extra housework as a part of the sims personality and make them neat, a slob, or a perfectionist or something for the sake of the story.

Well I thought about just selling them from the inventory but I wasn’t sure if that was too cheaty. So I just re-rolled the misc fun and got my precious. I am keeping the hands off for gen 2 though. I also like my sim to have some trait that compliments their job! I’m hoping not to get random traits anytime soon though at the same time it could be a fun challenge.

I have a personal gripe with the misc fun rolls where I've gotten rid of most of them that I will forget xD I'm too busy to remember to make my sims fight with people weekly! My sims are busy pixels!

Also I am super excited I found my hard drive and recovered one of my old legacy's! It did end up being a save that was a few sim days behind where I was but it wasn't too bad I only lost like 3 days. I did however completely lose a sim from the town. He was a townie and apparently just didn't exist anymore. Being he was my heirs love interest I had to remake him which sucks but oh well. I'm just glad I had the save at all. So because I love multitasking I will soon start updating my Groves Legacy again! Though I'm not sure anyone has read it. :shrug: Sadly my other legacy wasn't on the hard drive which really bums me out. I wanted those sims! I'm hoping its on another one somewhere.

I'm playing around with Relativity for the first time now (thanks for the tip! :*) and I see there's a setting that makes skill gain slower/faster based on your life span. Soooo maybe I can keep my longer life span without it being cheaty?

So, erm... Yeah, sorry for the radio silence. I got a new job and I got so overwhelmed with everything that I had to take a break from everything for a few days so I didn't have a mental break down. Combined with the fact that I tried to start up a new thread and then immediately deleted it, I left for a while. On top of this, I got a new laptop, and have lost my save file for the Street family legacy, which I wasn't happy with anyway.

As a result of everything, I am starting a new random legacy from the beginning, but I will not be in such a hurry to pump out new chapters. My mental health and my job comes first, not new chapters of a Sims legacy.

You know those negative moodlets showtime career sims get after a bad show? I have that moodlet in real life now, just came home from a breakdance show and the stage was hot and slippery That and the "Sweating Profusely" moodlet too.

Well. It only took me a month to get this started. I'd open my game and then it would sit there for hours cause my son hates sims. xD Not really, he would just whine every time I tried to play. However, he is a complete daddy's boy, so while my husband is home, I get free time! :D

Here's the beginning of my new legacy. The only CC I have is from the store.

Third Time's the Charm, if anyone remembers that old thing with a whole four updates, is still happening, despite me not updating since January. I had to take a break because my old finally kicked it, and it took me a while to get a new one. I had a backup of my save this time, so I still have it, but I had to reinstall the game, all the expansion packs and stuff packs and mods I was using, and store content.... and then after spending forever doing that, the game wouldn't even open. So I just gave up for a while. This afternoon I ended up uninstalling everything, then reinstalling it again one by one. Which, by the way, was far more tiring than it had any right to be considering I literally was sitting at a computer the whole time.
But I got it working. Mostly. Late Night and Ambitions are broken, for some reason, and I'm not going to bother trying to fix them for now.

I don't have an update yet, I still have to figure out what's happening in my game and I know I've lost at least some screenshots n stuff on my old laptop. Just thought I'd drop in.

The Harris legacy is of course still being continued (I actually have the 2 next chapters prepared but my two real life readers are on vacation so I want to wait with publishing them until they're back ) but I felt like I also needed a fast-paced, laid-back legacy. That and I discovered the "Nothing is free" Challenge which can be combined with the RLC so I will do exactly that.

This one is on default life span and with the new rules applied from the start, and it's more focused on gameplay than (realistic) story and looks. Hope you enjoy anyway!

Firelightknight, I hope you can get ambitions and late night working again! Do you have them through origin? It's been pretty easy for me to install with origin when I got a desktop. If you bought discs but still have the activation codes, you could try using the codes on there instead of using the discs to install.

Frogsnack, I need to catch up on yours. Jyo certainly is pretty. O_O I've been trying to figure out whose features she got from each of her parents. She's definitely got a good mix!

@heatherfeather19 man, I wish it were that easy. I do have them on origin, but unfortunately the problem with Late Night isn't that it won't install - it's just that once I have it installed, the game won't open. Unknown error code before it even opens the launcher. So if I want to actually play the game, I have to uninstall it. With Ambitions, Origin acts as if it's already installed, but the game (and uninstaller) acts as if it isn't. It's like, in some weird limbo or something. I can't install it because Origin thinks it already is installed, but I can't uninstall it because it isn't actually there. And unfortunately, I have the tech skills of an alcoholic monkey and therefore have no idea how to fix it.

Anyway, here's a long overdue update.

Also on another note, has anyone here tried playing a Wishacy? Because I was following a blog that seems to have disappeared, and now that I've got Everet (spoilers on his YA form) doing one, I'm having trouble figuring out what I can let him do. (For example, he rolled a wish to quit his job and I have a hard time believing that I can let him do any job ever...) but I can't find a thread about it here or at the sims site. :/

@Frogsnack Just let him quit his job, unemployed sims will roll a new wish to start a career pretty soon (just hope it's not the same one he just quit!). You got a blog for that wishacy?

Working on an update for the Van Hofwegens but then this happened. I am in tears from laughing so hard!

So, I've played up until my Gen Two children are all teenagers. Doesn't seem long ago they were all just being born!

Got my next gen rolls as well, so my heir has been picked out based on them.

I also have a new chapter in the works, but it'll come out tomorrow when I'm not headache-y and tired.

Okay FINE I was gonna be lazy as I basically just started playing today but here we go... I hear short, sweet and lazy stories are all the rage these days. +_+

I have found it to be very fun, challenging, and sometimes maddening!

I do this all the time. I mean, some days my sims just do their work/school flow and then come home and eat/sleep. Nothing interesting at all. I just skip all that until something new or interesting or story based happens.

Check out Lindsay being nightmare fuel thanks to her aging up. I am trying my best to keep up with posts and not play too far ahead. I am very excited for next gen though so it has been hard to slow down.

I don't think so, you've got to enjoy the game after all and nobody said you have to write every sims day or sim week. You can also timeskip, which has been done by several storytellers, which is also fine if you just need a conclusion or a fresh start. It's your story after all.

So the Sparrows have an update on each blog! (Everet's Wishacy is an alt universe type of thing and that's in my signature now)

The main story came out cute this time (sorry about any spelling errors, I'm too tired to read any more tonight after all the writing and updating). But there is a birthday, several makeovers, and something plot-developy that gives Jyo's teen years just a little bit more angst. :P

Hey fam I have a question- I want my sims to adopt a child for story purposes but it's outside the parameters of how many children can be raised in the household. (I have a time limit on the adoption otherwise I won't be able to tie up a thread in the story, basically). I don't want to cheat, but I do want a resolution for the family so there's not a 'bad end'.

I'm thinking there are only two options that still respect the rules (Where children have to be raised in the house to count); I can create a adoption-type of facility that the family owns where that child will sleep and I won't play them but they'll be around for family milestones or to tell the story of the adoption to lengthen the process, or to move the kid into the active family and then immediately send them to boarding school where they can come back for holidays or something.

Thoughts?

Or you can simply go with Story>Rules, like so many of us have done. XD
In all honesty though, I'd go with the boarding school option. That way the kid won't really be around to have an effect on the challenge itself. As long as the kid isn't in the running to be the heir (and isn't around during the infant/toddler stages), I'm not seeing how it's that much different than making an IF real. Depends on how closely you want to follow the rules, I guess.

I say the same. as Convicted dreamer, as long as they aren't heir it should be fine. Story > rules!

Eeeehhhhh I have to agree with everyone else. Story is more important than rules. If it really bothers you, send the kid off to boarding school. I've been pretty flexible in my own game with the child roll because I'd rather enjoy playing my game than have to stick to something that will make me unhappy with my game. Just me 2 cents.

New chapter! I have the pictures for two more chapters, though I need to get the pictures for the next chapter. I'm going to try something different. It won't work for the next generation, but I think it's neat for the first one.

Anyone here still remember Katerchen? The black and white male founder cat of my old Koyangi legacy? He's lost. The real life him, not the sims version. It's been 4 and a half days and I'm absolutely devastated. I put a cardboard box with his blanket, his favourite shirt of mine, food, and water outside. I sprinkled some soiled litter of his around to help him find his own scent. I have posters all over the neighborhood. I asked neighbors if they saw him and got many hints, unfortunately there is another very similar looking cat in the neighborhood who they have most likely seen. I check every block's cellar, I sit outside at nights (when it's quiet and he is more likely to come out), call and sing. But so far nothing...
He's been an indoors cat for 8 years... I don't know if he can find his way back home alone. I'm a wreck and just crying all the time, haven't been as sad about human people's death as I am about my cat's disappearance.

Sorry for going completely off-topic, but I just can't not talk about it. I keep reading and commenting on your stories, will also continue my own once I'm in the mood for that again. But I'm just unbelievably sad right now.

@Nocriel, I'm so sorry you're dealing with that right now! I love kittes and when a stray isn't looking well I always say a prayer for it or try to find someone who can help it. I hope you don't mind if I say a prayer for Katterchan too. Have you tried leaving something that he likes outside, even something he sleeps on or that may smell like him?
