Here's a new Nothing Is Free update. It's actually the last one for this generation. Pretty fast, huh? I guess I could have made two chapters out of this + some extra screenshots I have lying around here but I wanted to catch up to where I am in-game, which is at the start of generation 2. I will *try* to make generation 2 not so super short but I wanted a RLC that is faster than my Harris legacy so it probably won't be much more than ten-ish chapters per generation.

I have a tiny update for Lawful Chaotic: 1.13 Leave the Nest

So, I am faced with a problem.

I'm playing through Gen Two of the Nicholson's, and things have broken. Not game breakingly broken, but still broken. Connor is in the firefighter career, and he spends his whole time there fixing the fire engine and alarm. Because of this, there is so few screenshots of anything actually happening. I would try and start again, but the only save I have of the game is when Connor has a wife (who is pregnant) and Kathleen has a baby from some French dude.

So, with there being no way to undo what's been done, and with me having to change Connor's career to being a magician (Yay for Showtime) due to the firefighter career being broken, is it okay if I do a "Here's a summary of what happened, now to cut to the action" style thing?

I'd say whatever you find easiest is fine. I mean, I know there's a general rule of story>rules, but if you're playing more like, strict, then I'm pretty sure there was a rule that was something like "if the game makes a career unplayable, it's all game". If it's just story, then you just do you, whatever will cause you the least amount of hassle or whatever you want to do most (which trust me, if you're anything like me, those two things are completely separate lmao)

If you sim's career is glitched, you may roll another one for them (general rule #15).

How you blog about the challenge is not covered under any rules and is entirely up to you.

Hi! Despite the many years since I've updated (including moving computers and apparently only having my Avendale stuff on my external HDD which is currently borked), I've been fiddling with my Avendales recently! Not sure when I might have another update; depends on if I want to wait to see if said external is recoverable and what (if anything) I had on there for 7.6 or if I just want to forge ahead.

Unfortunately, since I only was posting rolls on my blog/tumblr as they were revealed, I absolutely cannot remember what my misc fun goal was for gen 7. I've also gotta refresh myself on the rules a bit because I tend to follow my own little rule of story > rules so I usually use the rolls as a guideline/structure rather than an end-all, be-all.

Welcome back, Heaven! It's been a while! We recently re-did the rules a tiny bit, but the old ones are still kept on the rules blog too.

I saw that! It's been so long that I'm not sure I could pick out the differences unless I looked over both extensively. The one thing I did notice was the expansion gift is gone (as makes sense) because I used it for gen 6 and then was like "wait, did I cheat and just pretend I didn't" and then saw those were new rules, lol

Heh... yeah... there hasn't been an expansion in many years now. *single tear* If you STILL have no experience with a career because all you do is legacy play with long periods of inactivity... grats, you're like me! xD I figured the rule would just confuse newer RLCers, and older ones could have it as a house rule if they adopt the new rules.

There were a few new rolls added for several categories, and careers were re-weighted, with some restrictions lifted as to which sim gets the career. Example: you roll couple, military, firefighter. Your heir could be military and the spouse firefighter, or the heir could be firefighter and the spouse military. Under the old rolls, you didn't get to pick which was which, and the heirs had an overwhelming chance to get rabbithole careers. I got so tired of that.

I was going to ask what the expansion gift was but I think I remember it? Wasn't it a rule that was like "if you get a new shiny you can mess around with it"?

1.4 - The Future

Despite not being able to play too much lately (and being on a building spree), I do have a few chapters lined up just waiting for text to be added to them.

Expansion Gift was... if you got a new expansion in the middle of your legacy and wanted to play one of the careers, you could swap your sim to that career. It was probably worded better.

I am back with a sort-of update, mostly explaining what has happened in my game.

Chapter 2.1 - Glitches Galore

Random question as I'm curious if anyone else has played this way before, but what about a 'Grew out of it' option where an adult sim chooses an adult trait to replace one of their childish ones? The way the game limits what traits a child or baby can have but pre-made sims that start as adult can have all adult only traits, things like flirty instead of loves the outdoors or whatever. People change in reality as they grow up, but I'm thinking about rolling for a single trait change when a sims grows into young adulthood if it fits the story later on. I don't have any particular plot idea about this, but if I want someone to grow out of their clumsiness or absent-mindedness, or even go the opposite way and become less disciplined as an adult I think it would open up some fun story options. At the same time, I wouldn't want to do this on every age up. Thoughts?

I didn't suggest this earlier when we were changing the rules because you have to use a cheat to change it or a good amount of lifetime happiness points, and I didn't want to suggest something that can't be done in normal gameplay (I know if your sim makes enough friends or whatever they can gain an additional trait now, but I'm not sure if that's from a patch or where that comes from- not the uni max influence additional trait- but some of my sims in another save have gained traits from having a lot of close friends for some reason).

Examples of adults only traits would be Born salesman, dramatic, dislikes children, charismatic, flirty, green thumb, great kisser, hopeless romantic, nat cook, nurturing, sculptor etc etc. So a sim that has the five traits Unflirty, Green Thumbed, Technophobe, Vegetarian, and Workaholic could not exist the way we play be as those are all teen and up traits. (Another thought is to change a trait if the sim in question goes through a midlife crisis, but that rarely ever happens in my games and it's kind of late in their life)

I use a mod that enables all traits for all ages so that not every second baby in my legacy is an excitable outdoors lover. Didn't check the new rules for that but I remember that was explicitly allowed in the old rules. If I do want to give them some sort of character development not only in the story but also in game I use the LTR, that would probably be the way to go if you wanted to include that as a roll.

As Nocriel said, there is a mod that allows all traits to be selectable for all ages (the rules specifically allow you to use it; Mods section #5), and there's a lifetime reward that can change traits (you're not allowed to use this reward on a random traits roll, but otherwise, all bets are off). There's also the Unstable trait, which changes up your sim's traits.

I also use a mod that makes all traits available to babies and children, so much nicer for diverse characters!

Started a new one recently, and been having fun with it. Getting some entertaining screenshots. But I forgot to start doing actual narration beyond notes and screenshots so I feel like when I'm writing the game up I'm missing a lot of the situations that occurred.

Currently on generation 2, and have single with double help. I know I'm going to have one of the sisters of the heir stay, but trying to decide if I go with the third sibling as the other help or let them leave and get married and stuff. Choices!

Just chiming in to let you know that I'm on sims vacation because the newest WoW expansion Battle for Azeroth will be released in 3 hours and 40 minutes! Sorry I didn't manage to finish the next chapter before that, but I'll be back after the hype has calmed down.

I've never really written a Sims story before so I decided to dabble in it with a random challenge and started a blog! It follows the Rivers family (currently on gen 2 with 3 on the way). I find it hard to play more than 1-3 generations at any given time so I thought writing a story out would help keep my interest (so far so good). My Sims currently live on an isolated island but I hope to move them soon, I just wanted to start out my legacy with a bunch of Sims I've saved over the years but never got around to using.

I've put up 3 more chapters for a total of 7, and I have to say I've never had more fun playing in years. Giving Sims personalities really does the trick to get me to want to play. My 3rd generation is a teenager looking for love right now and I'm having a lot of fun trying to plan for "second chance at love." All my Sims marry the first person that walks by usually, and stays with them til they die. It'll be interesting to have a Sims get divorced.

I'm pretty happy with the blog itself now, it's much more coherent and easier for mobile users to use. I'm also almost up to where I am in game!

Hello! It's been a hot minute since I last visited here, or participated in the RLC--idk if anyone will even remember me, as I was here only briefly (although I've played the RLC in my own time a lot). My previous legacy family was the Soapberrys (Soapberries?). In-game I got to the birth of gen 7, but I only blogged partway through gen 2. Anyway, I'm currently locked out of their save file due to losing a few of my expansions; I bought them from one of those suspiciously-cheap sellers on eBay, so it was my own fault. At the time, I genuinely thought they were legit, but after a few months EA took them away and the seller got shut down. So until I shell out the money for those expansion packs again, that legacy is on hold.

The whole ordeal kind of set me off of playing Sims for a while, but going back to college always gets me in the mood to play for whatever reason, so here I am.

All that to say, I'm adding my blog to the pile. It's got a grand total of one post so far. Amazing! I'll also be working hard to catch up on everyone elses' legacies, so please be patient as I read! I promise I'll start leaving comments soon.

I wonder if you backpatch to 1.67 from 1.69 you can use the games without relying on Origin or whatever (I hate having to be online to play too). Games from the store aren't easy either though, if you lose a computer or whatever you only have so many downloads. Wonder what the Disk packs go for (or did they not continue making them?)

Still it's better than Sims 4 (probably)! But yeah I just had to reinstall all of my mods myself because the folder disappeared during gameplay... that was weird (probably because my save folder got to be too large, not too sure). So I had to spend time over two days to recombine package files vis S3PE etc (I had saved most of my mods out of the game and it still took hours to recomine them. Lesson learned ).

Hello everyone, I've been a little absent.

I had a problem with the saves of all my sims games. To organize myself, I have the games in folders with different names, for some strange reason all those folder mixed with each other and some disappeared entirely. Unfortunately this caused all my saves to become unplayable. The only save of this challenge that is playable is one of when Bellandra (first kid) is about to become a teen, which is terrible because I was more advanced in the game than in my blog. Zoe had meet all the requirements and only a couple of days were left for generation two to take over. She had managed to complete all the mixology challenges while reasing four kids with little money! I feel so frustrated.

I have to think what I'm going to do with the blog because now it's ahead of my game. I have two ideas on how to continue with the challenge, one is to replay the lost weeks . The other is to age the heir and move him/her to a new town and continue from there, because technically the first generation is finished, I was only waiting for the heir to become a young adult. I have to think that it is the best thing for the blog, the good thing is that I have enough screenshots to write a few chapters.

I am also tempted to start a new challenge while deciding what to do with this one but I'm trying to resist because I really don't have the time.

I'm not sure how to backpatch, although it would be nice to not have to play online. The games I bought online were just key codes that got sent to you via email once you purchased them. They were crazy cheap, like $2.99 per expansion. And also, apparently, fraudulent goods. The ones I have left are ones I've got physical copies of, and one Origin-bought digital. I'll probably just slowly rebuild my collection digitally, though I would prefer physical copies. But you're definitely right--anything is better than Sims 4!

I'm slowly making my way through everyone's blogs and am thoroughly enjoying myself. This weekend will be mostly reading during homework breaks, I think.

I haven't been ready to commit to a new legacy, so I was playing around with getting as many badges as I can on the Sims3 website. Lol. It definitely had me playing differently than I ever have before!

I don't get too much time to play sims anymore. Actually, I should be catching up on housework right now, but I'm so tired. xP It's not even noon yet and I already want to go back to bed. My son messed up his sleeping schedule, so now he won't go to bed at bedtime and refuses to sleep in his crib. And on top of that, we're currently looking to move, so I'm trying to go through our things to get rid of what isn't needed or wanted.

So, erm...

You may have noticed that the time between chapters has been getting increasingly longer, and that is because my hours at work are also getting increasingy longer. As a result, I'm too tired and drained (physically and emotionally) to either play The Sims 3 or write up chapters. On top of this, I am not happy with where my game is right now. It feels like my chapters have been getting increasingly more lacklustre as they go on.

I don't know what to do, other than take a long break and try and salvage what I can from the legacy. I've got the fourth generation to teenagers in my game, so I'm wondering if it's worth just skipping straight to Gen 4 after taking some time off to re-energise myself?

So I decided to stick with it and complete the generation, and with that I have a new chapter: Chapter 3.6 - #RUDE

Regarding my problem with lost games, I decided to use the screenshot that I have to develop the story of generation one. I will play from the last game I have, which is one where Bellandra is about to become a teenager and Franco and Ramira in children, I will adopt a child again and I will replace him with Bruno (thank goodness that I save my sims in all their birthdays). Maybe I'll play in medium until I catch up the screenshots.

What I have decided is that I will consider generation one finished , because Zoe did everything she had to do, she was an old woman and the heir only had two days to take the torch.

I'm already writing the next chapter.

I have some bad new and some even more bad news.

The bad news that is that... Well... I lost my save file. By which I mean, I was deleting some old save files that were cluttering up my game and accidentally deleted the most recent saves. Guess I was a bit too delete-happy...

The even more bad news is that I have an ear infection, and cannot be upright for more than a few minutes without keeling or and/or throwing up.

I guess this explains my absence, so... yay?

I don't think I have EVER gone past 4 generations on any sims 3 save since the game was released. I'm going to give this a try in stealth mode after Ive read everyone's stories.

Today in lecture I sat behind a girl who spent the entire period playing Sims on her tiny Mac laptop. It was Sims 4, but still... I was a little jealous. And very amused.

I have a question--in the rules, there's a provision that lets you reroll a career if you've gotten it two generations in a row. Does this rule also apply to other categories, like Misc Fun or Generational Goal? I've rolled Idle Careers for gen 2 and gen 3, and it's not necessarily an unbearable fate, but I'd prefer to switch things up if it's an option.

LOL, Thanks Waga, The previous 8 (yeah .. 8) owners of my Husky, Gypsy, I think all had babies and small children, so she would get bored while I was at work, jump the fence and go looking for kids to play with. I think I paid more in fines, than in taxes , for the first 12 months that I had her. I got given her after the previous owners put a few hundred dollars worth of Easter eggs out for the kids to find, and all they found was chewed tinfoil... (she didn't even get sick...)

It does not... but feel free to make it a house rule.

I have a question regarding the Family Structure rolls and the roommate functionality introduced all the way back in UL.

Do roommates count towards the family structure? I already tested that they don't bring any money into the RLC house, and they are not controllable.

Family Structure - This determines how many adults you will need in each generation to raise the children.

As long as the room mate in no way educates/trains/raises/gifts the heir and siblings/step-siblings, etc. I don't see a roomie as Family, just an NPC that wont shoo!
