A chapter release two days in a row? I haven't done that in months! But I'm trying to get myself caught up to where I am in game, so here you go!
Chapter 3.7 - A Long-Awaited Event |
Jettstar RLC Update Chapter 6.07 The Look
Because it has occurred to me that an RLC without 'Toddler Spam' pics, is in fact not a proper RLC :P |
Hello again!
Generation Five is in the works, but I felt like people might need a refresher on the legacy thus far. Here's the very first chapter, featuring a baby faced Nate McKracken: Chapter 1.1 - Walk Like An Egyptian And here is all the family members so far. Sorry if there are any inaccuracies. I'm relying on my scribbled down notes in a disintegrating notebook, and it's ten to midnight, I've had a bit to drink, and I'm about to pass out. I will check it when I'm more awake. The McKracken Legacy Thus Far |
Another chapter has been set free 6.08 Double Double Trouble
![]() BTW if you have the steam version ALL SP's and EP's are around 75% off for the next week! |
|
*sigh*
So here's the thing. I've looked through my screenshots to plot of Generation Five, and I wasn't feeling it at all. It was boring to look at and everything moved way too quickly. I didn't like any of my heirs, and I felt like the whole thing was just lacking. Therefore, I have made the decision to redo Generation Five. I know I have hyped it up, but it was more to get myself excited for it, and now that it's here, I won't feel good releasing sub-par content. I apologise for this, but I know that the McKrackens deserve better, and so do my readers. Thank you to everyone who had read and comments over the past few months. I do read every single one of the comments left, and try to respond to them if I can. So the McKrackens will be coming back, and they'll be coming back better than ever. Toolsie x |

I second all of this. Do what works for you and have fun doing it! This is actually a pretty creative way to hit the "refresh" button without completely starting over. You know, I've always wondered what I'd do if I "lost" the challenge, as obviously I'd hate to start over. But, at the same time, I enjoy the fact that it is a challenge, so I wouldn't just want to ignore the fact that I'd failed. Maybe I'll borrow your idea, and if a generation fails to meet their requirements or whatever, my punishment (of sorts) will be having to scrap the entire gen and try again--new spouse, new kids, maybe even new house? Anyway, thanks for the idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing the McKrackens whenever they return. ![]() |
Guess who's back, back again? No, not him, the Jettstars!
Jettstar RLC Chapter 6.09 Notice Me Senpai! |
The next morning Lupe got on the phone. She knew Sam didn't have to be at work until the afternoon, so she asked him to brunch. Maybe Sam felt guilty, but he agreed to meet her at the coffee shop. Lupe took her time in front of the mirror before she left, she needed to look her best and perfect her shocked expression. When she got to the coffee shop Sam wasn't there yet. She got a cup of coffee and a muffin and had a seat. She sipped slowly at the coffee, looking out the window and watching passerbys and broke her muffin into bits nervously. Sam came rushing in about five minutes later once her muffin was reduced to crumbs. He smiled nervously and waved at Lupe before getting his own cup. Lupe glanced out the window and saw Abigail sitting across the street at one of the outdoor tables at the cafe. She smirked at Lupe and gave a mock wave, before pulling her long purple hair into a messy bun and pulling out a magazine.
Sam came over with his sugary specialty drink. Lupe had no idea how he could stand that stuff. Kissing him was like eating a candy bar after he had one of those. She preferred her coffee with a touch of cream and no sugar. Sam looked down and stirred the whip cream and caramel sauce into his drink with his straw. Lupe decided to break the silence, "What did you get this time, an iced caramel mocha? Is there any espresso in there at all?" Sam looked up, "It's an iced caramel latte. I think I saw them put two shots in! Still too bitter though. What's up?" "What, a girl can't ask her boyfriend out for coffee without suspicion anymore?" Sam's face went ashen, "You didn't check your voicemail this morning?!" "No, I saw the missed call, but I figured we could just talk here..." Lupe said, keeping her tone light. Sam ran his fingers through his already messy hair, "I really wish, you'd listened to the voicemail, Lupe, it would've made everything so much easier... I ran into Abby last night, well she ran into me, we ran into each other? We still have feelings for each other and, well, something happened and we decided to give things another chance." Lupe recoiled like she'd been slapped, her large green eyes filling with tears. She knew she'd needed to hear it from him. She itched to slap him, but when she lifted her hand, she saw him brace himself for it and rested her hand on his cheek. This seemed more shocking to him than if she had, and leaned his head into her hand, his cheekbone fitting into the hollow of her palm perfectly. He leaned back in his chair his stubble rasping against her hand, breaking contact, "Lupe, I had so much fun with you and you showed me that things don't need to be so hard all the time..." Before her brain had time to connect with the action, she leaned forward and kissed him, lingeringly. It would be the last time, "Things shouldn't be so hard, Sam, relationships do take work, but..." He stood up and crossed the table, she stood up to meet him. He kissed her hard, pulling her arms around his waist. She met him eagerly, but pulled back. "You're right, things are over with me and Abigail." "You're a great guy, Sam, and you deserve better. I know you have a history, but it seems to me that she's toying with you and Sebastian. He used to be your best friend, when was the last time you even spoke to him?" Across the street, Abigail met Lupe's eyes with a glare. She held two fingers up in a V and gestured to her eyes and pointed at Lupe. "So where does that leave us?" Sam asked. Lupe's eyes filled with pity, "Sam, I could never be with someone I couldn't trust out of my sight. I could've loved you. I thought you could be The One, but now... I wish you the best, don't be a stranger." With that Lupe, grabbed her bag and left leaving Sam staring after her. Someone would console him soon, he wouldn't be single for long, she was sure. Lupe slung her bag over her shoulder and headed over to City Hall to drop off some papers. She had decided to apply to be a foster parent and give some child the home she had never had growing up. |
Quick update: not dead! Just super busy at work due to a lot of overtime. I’ve got enough screenshots to make a chapter, but haven’t found the time to write. Sorry!
|
*Pokes Toolsie with same long stick as before*
"Yup, confirmed, not dead!" ![]() |
After dropping off her completed paperwork, Lupe had to take a class and have a home inspection. The process took a few weeks and though the local government was loathe to make a single woman a foster parent, they accepted her. Late one afternoon, she got the call she had been half hoping for and dreading, "Good afternoon, Ms. Estes, this is Dr Smith from the Department of Children and Family Services, please have a room ready this evening for a young girl to stay with you."
After hanging up, Lupe got to work cleaning. She was so nervous she couldn't stay still! First she cleaned the kitchen, wiping down the table and the counters and cleaning out the fridge. Then she cleaned the oven, did the dishes, and swept the floor. Then she went and made up the bed. Just as she was approaching the bathroom, the doorbell rang, causing Floyd to jump down from the couch and run over barking ecstatically. She opened the door to admit a harried looking social worker and a quiet, pale little girl. Floyd took the lead, rushing up to them and sniffing their shoes and groins, sneezing periodically. He was very good at breaking the ice. Lupe invited them in over Floyd's barking. The social worker introduced them, "Juniper, this is Lupe Estes, you'll be staying with her for a while until your mother can take care of you again. Ms. Estes, this is Juniper. Here are her things." She handed Lupe a mostly empty black trash bag, "We'll be in touch." With that, she left leaving the woman and the girl sitting uneasily on the couch. "Would you like something to eat? Or have you eaten?" Lupe asked. The girl shook her head and continued staring at her feet, petting Floyd absently. "Would you like to see your room? I didn't know what you liked, so it's kind of plain." Juniper nodded and stood up. Lupe led her across the living room to the first door to the left of the kitchen and opened it. "Here's your bed, the blanket was mine when I was little. My abuela crocheted. I got this toy bin for you and I found this dollhouse at the thrift store. I hope you like it! If you don't, we can just repaint." Lupe felt like her mouth was running away from her. The little girl stood in the middle of the room, turning this way and that taking it all in. Then, she went back to the living room, grabbed her bag, and brought it back. She went rummaging inside it and put a ragged stuffed bear on the bed. Then she opened the storage drawer and upended the rest of its contents inside. For the first time, she smiled at Lupe, "Do you think I could learn to paint? I also want to write! I've got all these ideas for stories..." She stopped like she said too much. Then she continued, her mind on a different track, "Can I play with him?" she asked pointing to Floyd. "Sure thing, just mind his body language. If his tail goes down between his legs, he's scared. If his ears go flat and you can see the whites of his eyes he might bite even if he isn't growling. Dogs can't talk like we can, so you have to pay attention to other things. If he gets too rough, say 'no' firmly and stop reacting to him. Put your hands into fists and go still like a tree. He seems to like you, have fun! I'll be right here if you need anything. Oh, and stay on top of the hill. My property is pretty much every thing on top here, but the sides are pretty sheer. It wouldn't be fun to go rolling down." Juniper scratched at her arm, thinking, "I don't really like it outside, it isn't safe." Girl and dog retreated to the front porch. Even here, Juniper felt uneasy. What if there was someone in the bushes? What if she did go rolling down the hill? There are bugs and snakes outside! Floyd would know if there were anything in the bushes, she answered herself. "Hi, boy!" she said addressing him, "Are these your toys? Do you like sqeaky toys?" she asked, teasing him with one. He feinted one way and then another trying to get the toy, tail wagging. Then he nosed through the toy basket and came up with a knotted rope and dropped it at Juniper's feet. She picked it up, was she supposed to throw it? When Floyd grabbed it and started pulling, she nearly dropped her end from surprise. He seemed to be teaching her how to play tug of war, by tugging on his end of the rope then stopping and giving Juniper a look. When Juniper tugged back, he triumphantly tugged back like, "Yes!" Eventually, Floyd tired of winning and went running off across the yard. Lupe was working in the garden, getting it ready for winter. She watched the dog go running off, followed a little later by Juniper. She had a feeling things were going to turn out well. Looking up a little later, she saw girl and dog silhouetted against the rising moon. It was a memory she'd look back fondly on for years. |

Jettstar RLC - Chapter 6.10 A Short Tale of Valiant Knights, Fair Princesses And Evil Dragons

Ok, y'all, due to popular demand (one request) I've started a blog of this thing. I was going to call it Simdew Valley, but ended up calling it the Mayflies Legacy because sim lives are short and this whole thing is about making it through 10 gens... Have a gander: https://mayflieslegacy.blogspot.com/

Enter Juniper You've already read this and I also posted a blurb about what the blog is and that nonsense.

Here is my bi-weekly offering -> Chapter 6-11 A Chance Encounter With Mermaids Enjoy ![]() |
I finally have some updates!
The Wilder-Moons: ::1.6:: This Whole Dad Thing And a little something from the Abridged Soots: ::1.1:: Strawberry Couch, Kitchen Sink (Introductions) Since the Soot blog is more of a little side project than an actual legacy, I think I'll keep bundling their updates with ones from the Wilder-Moons. |
So Lupe caught fire while delivering a Sing-a-gram... Even after I reset her, she was still on fire just near a shower. So I'm quitting the singer career which I hated anyway. Once I can figure out how. I'm having her go back to freelance science. It suits her better. I may have her busk until she makes level four, though.

I have another chapter that I meant to get done forever ago!
Chapter 3.8 - Welcome to Midnight Hollow! |

I ended up having her go and join the sports career and immediately quit. I think I'm going to uncheck all the showtime careers from now on. I've played them all and there's no such thing as work/life balance with them. (very true to life in that one aspect)
|
I've recently made the leap from Pets and SN to all expansions, so there is still a lot of things I haven't even explored yet. Even after my current legacy is complete, I will still have a lot to investigate
![]() |
When I first got the game it was a bundle of BG and ST. The ST careers were great fun, but I've already maxed magician and singer and made it to level 7 in acrobat. The problem is that if you've done one there's not much of a functional difference between them.

Gen 1.4 A Meadow Glen Mystery... I'm trying to write up a lot so I can get things to where they are in the game so I can focus in on it more.

How do you guys handle sex in your stories? I mean, the whole point in a legacy is the advancement of generations and I don't want to write smut and yet I feel like there needs to be a certain amount explicitness...
|
Quote: Originally posted by tunafishfish
Some blog authors write full smut scenes, some write up to a certain point, and some skip it completely and just assume the reader will understand what happened when the pregnancy starts. Personally, I prefer to just allude to it, or mention it in passing. Game screenshots can come in handy for this, as they're a non-explicit visual explanation of what happened. Again, that's just the way I'm comfortable doing things. Sims itself isn't a very explicit game, so it feels strange to me to write anything like that in super great detail. |
Quote: Originally posted by tunafishfish
Yeah, I agree with wagaturtle. I've read legacies that go very explicit, moderately explicit, or have almost nothing at all. Personally, I also like to use screenshots that allude to it, maybe some suggestive dialogue, but with a fade to black kind of effect for the actual scene. It depends on your style as a writer, as well as the way you want your story to go. |
Yay, many familiar names

We're coming up on a promiscuous chapter in Lupe's life and while she's not generally promiscuous she's very attracted to Shane and got carried away. I've only ever seen her get the "attractive company" moodlet about 3 times and desires to act on it a couple of times too. She sees Shane though and it's like, "Kiss Shane," "Woohoo with Shane," "Have a great date with Shane!" Most of the time she seems content to observe that the person is attractive and then never do anything about it.

*insert long resigned sigh here*
So... You know how I was so excited to finally be at Generation Five, and that Generation Six was on its way? Let me tell you two words that have royally screwed over my game: ERROR 16 Basically, my game got so overbloated from staying in Sunset Valley for too long that it refused to save. No matter what I did, it would never save. So I made the preparations to move everyone to a new neighbourhood, family tree be damned, and then the game just up and died on me. This is the exact same thing that has happened to me on my previous two legacies, which is why I have never got past Generation Five. I do have a way of fixing it, but it involved going back to when Chloe is a teenager and basically re-redoing Generation Five from the start. It also means that everyone from Robin's generation will cease to exist, as they'll be in a new world without them. I still have the ghosts of the ancestors stored in the family inventory, but there will be no family connection between them. So, here's what I am going to do. I'm going keep the legacy going with Robin and Chloe in the new neighbourhood, but I am going to act like a time anomaly has caused Chloe to be living in an alternative version of herself, because then I can poke fun at how broken and glitchy both my game and Chloe are. As Twisted Smiley put it, Chloe is "The Alternative Time Line Heiress". Another thing I will do is change the rolls around, just to keep things fresh. So, yeah... It's been a bit of a disaster, but I'm trying to pick up the pieces and deliver some content from it. Let's hope this doesn't backfire on me xD EDIT: Turns out the Chloe I have saved is the OG Chloe before I did the first rewrite, so there's that at least xD |
[QUOTE=peaceful_apocalypse]*insert long resigned sigh here*
Hi Peaceful! A friend of mine in another forum just gave me this advice to keep my game running smoothly. Before I followed her steps, my game was VERY laggy and slow loading and buggy to say the least. Here is what she said: Backup (or rename) your Sims 3 folder so those saves and custom content are saved. Create a new folder by launching the game and copy back some of the most current saves but not all of them. As having a lot of saves can cause a lot of issues. I usually have maybe 10 at most. Also copy back the files and folders listed below: Folders: - - DC Backup - for this file = ccmerged.package - DCCache - Contains all installed Custom Content/Exchange/Store items that you installed through the Launcher. - Downloads - Items to be installed - Exports - Files you export from the Game via CAS or Edit Town and will have and will be in .Sims3Pack format. - Installed Worlds - Custom or Store Towns you have installed. - Library - Sims and lots that you've installed. - Mods - Mods and custom content - Recorded Videos - Videos taken in-game using the V key. - SavedSims - Saved Sims that are in the SimBin - Saves - Game Saves - Screenshots - Photos taken in-game using the C key. - WorldCaches - Cache files for your installed custom and Store towns. Files: - Options.ini - Game and Graphics Options userPresets.package - Saved colors, patterns and textures I hope this helps you in the future. When I did this, my game now runs very smoothly. It really is amazing. I'm very fortunate that my game didn't completely crash. |

In hindsight though, I *could have* had one of the other family members come to extinguish her, but oh well. I also found out that the sims will not put themselves out autonomously; you have to direct the to do it. At least I've not seen them do it. I had an inventor catch fire who was right next to a shower and do you think he would put himself out??? NO! One thing I'd like to know though, is why EA thought that this would be so funny to have singers catch fire! ![]() |

Prepare to be amazed readers, as I use the old time travel trick, not for the mighty purpose of salvaging a crashed legacy beyond salvation by other mortal means, nor for the noble purpose of a required rewrite to satisfy a writers own standards, but simply because I am a night owl who far too frequently explores the limits of sleep deprivation, and do some seriously dumb ass things when I'm tired.. Like Hot Pink and Orange..
6.15 The Not Quite New But Definitely Improved 'The Amazing Jess' Outfit |
I'm toying with the idea that the further the legacy moves along, the more outlandish all the sims will dress. Partially to show the passage of time and partially because I've got all this weird stuff to put them in. By the tenth generation everyone will be dressing like is 1559! (don't hold me to this, I'm not sure how serious I am about it.)

Two chapters again! I'm trying to get through the rest of this generation this week, so I'm trying to get them out as fast as I get them done.

It may just be an excuse to let the RNG have its way with the townies. I'm not so into making sure that everyone looks a certain way, but more that there's an internal logic to the way they've dressed. I may not like what other people are wearing or what other people are doing with their hair, but they've chosen to look that way for a reason. Women don't tend to wear sweatpants with high heels and a fantasy bodice. No one wants to wear that one long skirt from Supernatural with a puffer jacket, unless they're going somewhere.

Quick question: how does Idle Career work with Showtime careers?
|
|
Quote: Originally posted by PSDuckie
Ouch... hmm... that's not a roll I play by and not one I came up with (to be fair most aren't!) so I'm not sure what its author would have said. Showtime was a later expansion and possibly came out after idle careers was introduced. "Idle career - Your heir won't make much effort in his/her career. Don't learn any skills, read any books or do any opportunities for the career. If you've rolled a career that will level its skill just by working at all (such as Artist), you are allowed to learn only 2 levels per week for the required skill. If you’ve rolled for the adventurer career, you’re only allowed 2 travels per week. These restrictions apply only to your heir, not to other adults in their generation." So, the showtime careers don't have "skills" per se. Your sim just gets better at what they do once they earn enough job experience to get a rank up. I guess you could count career advancement levels as "levels" in this case. Meaning it would take 10 sim weeks to get to the top of the career. Unfortunately a lot of showtime career stuff involves opportunities. Maybe you could just do every other one (instead of every one) until your two levels for the week are done? |

Yes, my Magician is at level 8, due to practicing and performing for tips. She has performed only 2 gigs in her career, (which seemed to have little impact.) I consider her an idle Magician rather than a serious career person. |
Gen 1.12 An Important Phone Call The plot thickens, like a good stew.
|
Idle Careers is the only roll I have excluded from my play (well maybe the celebrity thing if I ever rolled it) precisely because of that. A lot of professions or "other" careers (i.e. dumpster diving, collecting, animal wrangler...) don't really work with it, while the skill learning restriction can be bypassed easily by learning relevant skills as a child/teen. It's a really strange roll that imo doesn't go well with any non-classic careers so I just ignore that one.

Hello again!
As most of you are aware, my game keeps on breaking, which I suppose is what happens when a nearly 10 year old game keeps breaking in on itself. Because of this, I am struggling to finish Generation Five, due to the fact that as soon as I make good progress, my game crashes and I lose everything. Therefore, I have some solutions to this problem, and want to know what you guys this I should do: A) Abandon ship and start afresh. B) Push through Generation Five and save regularly, praying that I gen enough content to blog about it. Or C) Skip Generation Five, and start Generation Six straight away in a brand new save. Chloe will still be around as an elder, but Robin will be sadly deceased by then. I'm unsure of what to do, as I really want to continue on the legacy as Christine has the potential to be my new favourite heiress of the legacy. Let me know what you think I should do, and I'll try and return to the family as soon as I can! EDIT: Chloe's Generation Goal has already been completed, so there's no need to worry about failing the challenge. This will purely be to save the legacy so Christine can take over. |
How about saving the family to the bin and starting a new file in a new town and plopping them down? You'll lose the family tree, but keep the game going

@ Toolsie
I'm inclined to agree with Tunafishfish solution, this looks like my legacies next step for the same reasons. |
