If I use the Awesome mod cheat "editsim" to get the CAS-screen for one of my sims, will the changes stick and be inherited by their kids? Or is it like getting a nose job - it changes you but not your genes?

I made self-sims of me and my boyfriend while I couldn't install extra sliders. Now I don't want to go through the entire process of creating them again, but I still want to fix some things with the hip- and breast sliders... Or is there a way to get them into cas again? I haven't actually started playing with them yet, they're just sitting in their house.

Edit: Ooh, just found the "Save to Bin"-option while using the dresser. Can't believe I never saw that before!

Sims don't have genes in Sims 3, so yes, they will inherit it. They even inherit hair color changes you make in the mirror.

Really? Whoa, I'll remember not to change my sims' hairs into anything crazy, then. Thanks for the info!

My stupid questions:
1. Can we use subfolders in our Mods folder? I'd like to split stuff up by hair, makeup, clothes, etc.
2. Is there a place where we can see what version of the game we're using? All I found was a tab that said my game was up to date.

Thanks.

Subfolders do work, but only to a certain depth!

Meaning

Packages/1/2/3/4

Do not go past 4, to be safe. I believe up to 5 works. But I don't risk it.

Packages/hair is fine.
Packages/Hair/RoseSims is fine.
Packages/Hair/Male/Adult is fine.

And you can have as many folders in those folders as you want. So you can have Packages/Hair/Male and Packages/Hair/Female and Packages/Hair/Both, etc.

As for 2, open the launcher and look int he lower left corner. It should say "Game Version" and then the number.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I'm off to organize my mod folder. I was thinking the number in the corner was the launcher version, because it says 1.0.631.00001, and I keep seeing 1.8 as the most common game version. Is that the same as 1.8?

Claeric 7th Jan 2010 9:05 AM

My sims all eat on the toilet.

Every damn one of them. If there is a table and chairs, they default to that. If not, they rush to get dibs on the freaking toilet.

How do I stop this without a table and chairs?

You need to patch. 1.0.631 was the earliest release version, 1.8 is the latest. You can update the game from the launcher or alternatively search the Web for a direct link to the update; if you do that just make sure that the .exe you download ends in 0001.

I'm not sure why it would say that the game is up to date unless the launcher cannot connect to the Internet.

Where do you WANT them to eat if there isn't a table and chairs? :O

Like, I don't want the neighbors to keep aging, but I want to be able to age up my sims. Like Sims 2.
You can age up using the cake manually, or if you wish to things to be done per-fambly, you can use TS2 mode in AwesomeMod. Otherwise by default there is no way to do this. Of course, you can't actually play the neighbors by default, ever, unless you want to screw up your current fambly, so who cares what happens to them? TS3 is designed for single-fambly-play only. Despite the seemingly open neighborhood, it remains very confining in that way: You're born in the Vault, you die in the Vault.

ShortyBoo 7th Jan 2010 3:35 PM

I play my game with Story Progression disabled and Aging on and I'm wondering if this is going to negatively effect my vacation neighborhoods. I have married some of the foreign sims and as far as I can tell, they weren't replaced. I keep my own hood from dying out by switching families often, usually playing in 1 week (sim time) cycles. But I can't add new locals in China, Egypt and France, so will they eventually all just die out? Or do those locations have their own Story Progression that isn't turned off with the rest of the Story Progression?

Sofa, arm chairs, in front of the TV, like they used to.

I almost never build dining areas in my houses, I prefer everybody to sit around the TV like a modern family. But the first to grab a plate ALWAYS takes the toilet...and I don't know if it's teh comfort value, or what?

Menaceman44 7th Jan 2010 9:34 PM

The very first Sim I created in Sims 3 would sit on the sofa to eat meals before I bought him a dining table and chair. He did have a toilet and bathtub as well.

The second Sim I created though didn't have ANY seating and would always treck upstairs to sit on the bathtub.

I may have had Awesome Mod installed at these times though.

Yep you were right. I think it couldn't connect because flash wasn't installed (even though it was... what a pain). I got flash to install through IE and it recognized it and now my game is up to date. Thank you for the help.

Thanks for the clarification, Srikandi.

I've got two adult sims in my household with 6 children, 3 of which are the offspring of the 2 adults, the other three are from the mother's previous relationship. All of the kids are children. Problem is even though I've had the relationship between the two adults at full green bar they only stay as "romantic interest". I've intended to have them married with all these kids but I haven't so much as had the option of going steady between them and I've been playing these Sims for a long time.

What determines what kind of gravestone your sim gets when they die? In my legacy, the heirs always have the big fancy gravestone, the spouses usually have the plain ones (one got a big fancy one) and the spares have the really small ones. Is it whether they fulfill their lifetime wish or how much money they have or how long they lived or something?

Beccapixie10 8th Jan 2010 7:41 AM

pinnerMI How old are they? I thought going steady was a teens thing, but if it isn't, then you may have to have them go steady, then get engaged, then get married, in order.
Also, you have to do a few romantic socials in a row to get those kind of options to appear, even when they have a very high relationship.

I didn't have Awesome Mod - though it would be possible I had IndieStone at the time - and my very first Sim would sit on a sofa to eat, before having a dining chair. He did have a toilet and bathtub as yours did.

I was wondering if it could be a bit influenced by the traits: like... snob sims don't eat on the toilet while slob sims do.

Claeric, you're lucky, in my opinion! I'd like my Sims to eat on the toilet. I found it so funny!

I'm wondering this myself. I can't figure it out because I've had rich sims die and get the flat gravestone, same with sims who have fulfilled their lifetime want. So I'm guessing those things alone don't factor into it.

Claeric 8th Jan 2010 7:19 PM

Small Plaque: Dying without completing lifetime wish

Medium Grave: Dying after Finishing wish and having earned 50k-150k Happiness points

Large Obelisk: Dying after finishing Lifetime wish and having earned 150k+ points

Ah. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much!

Yeah I would guess it's a comfort thing, try giving them a high quality sofa and low quality toilet.

My sims only sit on a dining chair or sofa to eat

Vattenlilja 9th Jan 2010 10:21 AM

I'm not sure, I might just be confused here... But don't sims usually eat with their plates ON the counters? I just made a new kitchen and realized the sims are sitting with their plates in their hands (like on a sofa or lone chair) instead of putting them on the counter they're eating at. Is that supposed to happen? Or did I do something wrong?

If it's an island counter, with barstool-type chairs on the correct side of it, they'll eat on the counters. You might have the wrong type of counter, or the wrong type of chairs, or have the chairs on the wrong side of the counter.
