Aging is during night (midnight or 2 AM I'm not sure). The morning there is a message who says "someone can have his / her birthday today".

mangaroo 17th Jun 2009 5:58 PM

Tzigone, I know my babysitters and paper delivery kids are constantly switching. I assumed the latter was because the previous delivery kid had aged up, but -- to be honest -- I am having a challenging time tracking the neighborhood growth. Which brings me to my stupid question:

If you have story progression on, will new families simply move in on top of existing families in households with spare beds? I married my first spare to Mortimer Goth's parthenogenic daughter, and when I shifted him to live in the Goth household, there was a second (non-Goth) family living there.

I think the aging is at midnight, except that on the day they actually age up, they'll do the transition some time in the evening (somewhere between 7-10pm, I think) if they haven't yet had a birthday cake. I found this out when I decided to hold an evening birthday party for two of my Sims.

RustyShackle 17th Jun 2009 6:11 PM

How do you get a female maid? Every time I hire maid service they send a dude.

Thanks. I play slowly. Aging and progression on a for a few days, then, whenever I notice someone new in town, off for a few days to get everything settled, then back on again. Mortimer only just turned teen in my game, and I know one of my babysitters is still a teen (just got met in school) and my paperboy (I only recognize one boy and one girl) is still a child, since I saw him on a community lot.

Yes. They'll also move into empty houses. I had one person move in with Claire and three move in next door with the Frios. In my other game, someone moved in with the Altos. My sister had three guys move in with Crumplebottom. Drives me batty. I have to move them all out. Right now the four from this game are all in a household together named "Invaders." I'm hoping AwesomeMod will have something for that soon. I'm fine with new families moving in to the empty houses, but not into other families' homes.

Even if you hire a service, you get a different maid every day. Wait long enough, and a woman will come.

Is the bed the only place you can woohoo?

As far as I have seen yes it is.

mangaroo 18th Jun 2009 1:52 AM

Rusty, I haven't tried it myself, but you can supposedly woohoo in some of the rabbit-hole venues (the theater, city hall) if your Sim is taking a tour with another Sim with a strong enough romantic relationship.

lazzybum 18th Jun 2009 11:45 AM

Yes, woohooing while touring the theatre works.

I have a question, how do you know your sim is pregnant? Is there a little jingle like in sims 2? Ive been trying for baby over and over again for 3 days and finally I notice my sim had the nauseous moodlet.. but that doesnt make sense if they get nauseous right away. Soo, is there a sound Im suppose to hear that I apparently cant?

alyria80 18th Jun 2009 11:51 AM

Yup there is a jingle, and if she's nauseous from "unknown causes" she's pregnant.

-StarrY- 18th Jun 2009 7:06 PM

I have aging option off currently, is there any way to age my toddlers? I tried using a cake to do it but the option to grow my little girls is not there...

The girls have already learn how to walk, talk and use the potty...

Edit: I figure it out... having testingcheatsenabled true, I can shift click my girl and age her.

There is, but it seems to be a bit inconsistent. I have a sim that's had 4 children/pregnancies. Out of the 4 times of getting pregnant, I heard the lullaby/jingle twice...the other two times I never heard it, but she got the nauseous moodlet shortly after they ceased their, er, activities. It is possible that I simply missed hearing it those two times, however.

Moonring05 19th Jun 2009 7:30 PM

My question is how much time must pass between autograph sessions if you're at the top of the career in music? My sim had an autograph session the other day, and I wanted to do another one. However, it says "enough time hasn't passed" when I hover over the option.

charlie-chan 19th Jun 2009 9:24 PM

I aged Mortimer and Bella. I clicked the option for them to be best friends forever.

They don't seem to get any further interaction wise outside of the normal romantic flirts (amorous hugs etc.)

How can I get them to be love interests ?

(Any tips will be appreciated)

clockworkapple 19th Jun 2009 11:41 PM

Is it possible to create Townies yet?

Thanks for the help xx

Full Fridge?

I can't seem to put my inventory in the fridge. I drag it and it won't go in there. Can the fridge be to full? Also, can my husband give his inventory items to his wife, because she is the cook and he has all the items.

Deestar 23rd Jun 2009 6:19 PM

Kyrstalparv- toddlers can actually change their own looks- buy a floor mirror for your house- and make sure you have a dresser on the same floor as the tot- have tot click on floor mirror- change appearance will pop up- have then change their appearance to how you want them to look- the same thing with dresser- click tot- plan outfit- and plan new clothes for them

Lindsfish- Some of the rare and uncommon seeds like limes, watermelon, garlic and onions can be bought as fruit/veg at the store - seeds area also found on the ground throughout town- specifically the parks, the graveyard, by exploring the catacombs etc- the more isolated a location is the more likely a seed is to be rare, uncommon, special, or higher quality (e.g. bad, nice, very nice, good, excellent, perfect) . You can look for seeds by going in to neigborhood view- clicking a location and zooming in and scrolling along the ground - seeds will look like little white dots on the ground- click on on the seed and click pick up and your Sim will walk/drive/teleport themselves to where the seed is and pick it up- it is actually pretty fun to watch them running up the side of a mountain to get a seed.

Does adoption work the same way in sims 3 like sims 2. Where if one is taken away then it will end up in the pool and can be re adopted

Nope. Random sims are generated when you adopt. Children taken away are placed with other families in town.

Thats annoying...

Deelicious1920 4th Jul 2009 5:48 PM

How do you find jewels and stuff? I can't figure out how to find them...

Scout 4th Jul 2009 6:26 PM

rosieposiepudnpie, just move things from his inventory onto her pic on the left. The items should appear in her inventory when you open it.

Deelicious1920, read arelenriel's response to Lindsfish as the answer is pretty much the same. Additionally, you'll want to look around rocks as that is a good place to find gems.

What's the lifespan of the money tree? My Sim has three trees and I'm waiting for them to die before I'm buying him a new house. He's harvesting the trees for more than six weeks now, the lifefruits and flamefruits he planted the same time are long gone.

My sim has had his for sim weeks actually it's been a couple of real life weeks too. I don't think they die, you can still move and go to the old house to harvest the tree.

Sim Simmer 4th Jul 2009 10:02 PM

When I try to quote someone, it says this thread is invalid, odd.

Anyhow, @ jondough08x

No you can't use Sims 2 mods in The Sims 3.

Well, he's evil so he will cut them before he leaves. *evil laughter*
All trees dropped seeds, so he can plant new ones.

Sim Simmer 6th Jul 2009 4:39 PM

Does saving take a while for anyone?

Does quitting the game take a while to quit for anyone else? Whenever I play for a few hours and select "save and quit" or just "quit" It takes a while to actually quit the game.

I'm not talking about the current household. I mean from exiting the game and going to the desktop.

Caitrinoah 6th Jul 2009 5:36 PM

It takes a while for my pc, too. I guess that's normal maybe? 20-30 seconds needs my computer to shut down TS3, maybe a little more or less

I have some stupid questions, too. Where do I find those stacks/boxes where you can put butterflies and bugs into? I also look for the sprinkler and a well (fountain). Didn't find any of those objects, but maybe I am just a little bit blind

- just grab a butterfly or bug from the inventory and place it somewhere
- the sprinkler is in buy/outdoor/outdoor activities (the football) - I'm sure you can find it somewhere else, too

Caitrinoah 6th Jul 2009 7:45 PM

Thanks a lot arathea! I am going to look after it right now

Sim Simmer 7th Jul 2009 10:06 PM

Are there supposed to be copies for every family you make?

Ex: I made a family, everyone from this family has now died. Every generation.

I went to the neighborhood bin, saw a copy of the family, of when I made them in CAS.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm not sure how to explain 100% clearly...

arathea 7th Jul 2009 11:02 PM

Yes, there is a copy of all your familys from CAS in the sim bin, so you can start new games with the same family.
You can place several copies of the same family in the neighborhood, too - if you don't mind the confusion!

alkesi 7th Jul 2009 11:48 PM

Hmm this must be the _stupidest_ question ever, but: What things does the lucky trait exactly help in?

Anthoric 8th Jul 2009 8:46 AM

@ Klepto question: For what I have found, Kleptos can only steal when no one else is around (In the same room for houses, I've had one steal a trash bin form the streets, kid you not....), and have a 3-4 item limit on stealing. Also it has to be evening/night before they can seemingly steal.

@ Seeds. Some you find, some you buy. buying them is pretty much buying a head of lettuce or a tomato then with it in the gardener's inventory right lick and click plant and they will go plant it, same with stuff you harvest. So essentially you buy the veg/fruit and plant it, not a seed.

How often can I raid criminals? It's been like 2-3 game weeks or more and I still cannot do it again, my guy just goes to the door then stops...

Anyone know why Sims in houses that my Sim visits won't really...do anything? They just kind of stand around unless my Sim talks to them or if a need gets really bad, otherwise they really do nothing at all. Free will on high.

LouAl 8th Jul 2009 2:43 PM

Okay ... so stupid question. For the Heartbreaker Lifetime Wish; does my sim need to go steady with a sim then break it off, and then go steady again with a total of 10 unique sims? Or is there a way to have my sim be the romantic entanglement of all 10 sims at once? The reason I ask is that my on sim is interested (has a little red heart below their picture) in 9 sims and going steady with one, but has no option for going steady with any of the other 9. 'Kay I hope you all understand that. Thank you for your time.

mikekearn 9th Jul 2009 1:05 AM

I think you can only go steady with one Sim at a time, but I'm not positive about that. I think that's why it's called 'heartbreaker' - you have to break their hearts. It would probably be easier to just go one at a time, anyway. Especially if your charisma is high; you can make friends instantly for your next target, as it were.

I just tried on my system at home, remotely, and I can't move a tree into my family inventory when I move. I don't know if when you move if the tree gets placed in there or not. However, what I would suggest is just go hunt for seeds and try planting again. I don't think any tree expires like a plant does as I've got several money trees and several lime trees and they both are growing after a month of sim time.

arathea 9th Jul 2009 10:32 AM

Trees can die. I had dead apple and lime trees, but the money trees refused to die. However, the money trees dropped seeds, so there was no need for random seed hunting.

christianlasha 9th Jul 2009 11:52 AM

I am an idiot.

My dumb question is: How do I download cc for ts3 from this website? I have been trying forever and nothing is showing up.

Stupid question #2: How can I make the game run faster? I think the patch to fix the speed up buttons actually broke them further on my computer. *tears hair out*

sumpsychochic 9th Jul 2009 5:26 PM

Maybe I have lost my mind, but I read someone talking about influencing their klepto sim to steal something. I cannot find this option in the game anywhere. My sim has the want to steal something, but I cannot get her too. I had her alone somewhere at night and she wasn't doing anything else, yet she refused to steal.

caseymendi 9th Jul 2009 5:40 PM

I believe you make them steal by clicking the ground, then "swipe something" while at someone's house, at least thats how I do it.

Rikachu 9th Jul 2009 6:04 PM

My Stupid question: I'm trying to get Pauline Wan and a CAS Sim to be married, their bars are both full, yet every time I click 'First Kiss' One of them refuses. Their moods are both in the green, and I changed Pauline's 'Commitment Issues' trait. WHY WON'T THEY KISS!?!?

maven2379 9th Jul 2009 6:39 PM

sumpsychochic - like caseymendi said, just click the ground and choose swipe something, they can only swipe at night and when no one is around, and can only swipe 3 things per day.

RiBlan - I think some sims were just not meant to be together. I have one sim that I kept trying to get romantically involved with another and it was just not happening. I gave up and had him meet someone else the new sim was much more accepting of his romantic advances.

Also did you make Pauline break up with that guy she was living with? Maybe that's the problem.

bluegenjutsu 9th Jul 2009 6:43 PM

Yep, Pauline is involved with Hank Goddard in the game and living with him. They marry pretty quickly after you start the game and have a baby right after. This has happened in every game I've played.

Rikachu 9th Jul 2009 6:57 PM

No, I broke them up pretty quickly. :p

bluegenjutsu 9th Jul 2009 6:59 PM

Quote: Originally posted by RiBlan

Maybe so, but the game has them set up to be a couple automatically, so that could be why you are having such a problem with getting Pauline to commit to your sim, instead.

Thanks. I'll try that next time it's night in the game and she can leave. It's nighttime now, but she has a baby and can't very well go out stealing.

Belfire101010 9th Jul 2009 9:40 PM

I know this is probably a stupid question (Hence why I put it here), and I don't know if this is covered somewhere else, although I think I know the answer to it. Is it possible to use things like hair and skin package files from the sims 2 in the Sims 3?

HystericalParoxysm 9th Jul 2009 9:42 PM

Belfire101010 - Nope.

ani_ 11th Jul 2009 9:04 PM

How to fulfilll the "see child be genious" want? My kids are in an honour-roll, but never are they geniouses.

Ingeborgsk 11th Jul 2009 9:07 PM

Gangreless 11th Jul 2009 9:10 PM

Not sure about Q1, but Q2 I have an answer.

I have installed this game on two machines and I have found two VERY different results.

My main machine is a 2.66ghz 1333mhz FSB Core2 machine with a $550 (When purchased new last year) video card, and somewhat fast memory (When purchased new last year), and the game plays as I would expect on speed mode 1, 2, and 3.

However, I installed this on my Notebook, and its a graveously different experience. Its s 2ghz dual core, 667mhz FSB, and an Intel video card. Same copy of the game, COMPLETELY different results.

On the home machine, I have everything turned up to max, other than the number of high-quality lots shown (Set to 3; 6 makes it start hitting the HDD pretty hard). On the notebook, I had to turn EVERYTHING down, but left the high-quality lots to 3. If I'm zoomed in on my Sim, everything is `decently` smooth, however, when I hit speeds 2 or 3, I get about 1.5. Even if the Sim is sleeping.

The patch MAY fix something for speed issues, but, it may not be the god-send you were hoping for.

BTW, both of my machines are running un-patched versions.

Jenl212 12th Jul 2009 4:37 PM

My question:

How do you subtract days from a Sims life? I don't want to 'age' them up, or shorten the global life span of the neighbourhood, I want to minus a few days off an Elder Sims age, so they are closer to dying. In the Sims 2 I would have drunk some bad elixir to age this - is there a Sims 3 equivilent? Thanks.

Also, I haven't seen a Sim die of old age (or anything else actually), as they seem to be at the end of the bar for ages. Do they still give out inheritances?

Gangreless 12th Jul 2009 5:44 PM

No inheritances, you can change the age slider to short in the options.

Jenl212 12th Jul 2009 7:18 PM

Thanks, but I don't want to do that for the whole neighbourhood, just one or two sims, to shorten their lives.

caseymendi 13th Jul 2009 1:22 AM

You could turn off neighorhood progression and shorten the life span while playing that family till they die. Make sense?

brandon1107 13th Jul 2009 2:38 AM

Sort of not part of the actual game but can't find another place to put this:

What options ingame can you choose to make your pictures look the highest quality?

and

What do you save your pictures as for the highest quality while maintaining the file limit on the forums?

"I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike..."

Just a notion that got stuck in my head but I don't know if it's true:
Does the bicycle benefit Sim fitness, or is it just another mode of transport?
IMO it should be like doing cardio exercise, but this wouldn't be the first time EA skimped on the details.

It's just tranportation. I'v been thinking the same, but have not seen any changes to fitness when using it. I still love having it thou

brandon1107: hope somebody answers your question, as my pics are too big for this forum and I cannot find any options to shrink them ingame.

Tiny question. Is there a set hour/day when you have a protest infront of city hall? I play Riverview, and have only seen once one elderly lady protesting, but my sim was rushing to the hospital to give birth, so I couldn't participate. And, can you start the protest yourself? or only join one?

LethalLaurie 19th Jul 2009 10:15 PM

Thanks, Ani.

Okay, new question: Whatever happened to slow dancing? I used to love making my couples slow dance in Sims 2, and so far have been unable to find it in Sims 3. I've tried clicking the target Sim and the radio, nothing. I'm at Romantic Interest--is my relationship not high enough, or is it just not in the game?

ani_ 20th Jul 2009 9:10 PM

LethalLaurie: It's not in the game, at least I'v never stumbled on it.

My question is about meetings. I have one of my ladies at level nine of the business career. She has to hold meetings to get her work performance up. She has so far held 4-5 meetings afer work. She has even learned charisma because I thought it would help, but obviously it doesn't. Her mood meter is high, her co-worker meter is high, it's just the meeting meter is fully red.
Also, what other places can she hold meetings at? so far I'v only had the option in the business building.

I don't think this is possible yet. It may just be that one painting is higher up the wall than the other and she used moveobjects on to place them on the same wall.

If it is possible, I'd like to know too.

Aww. =[
Well thank you for letting me know. :D

MondayMorning 6th Aug 2009 1:34 AM

Well, while I was in game today, I tried it with moveobjects on, placing two pictures on the same wall, and they both overlapped. This leads me to believe that she did some magic, or somehow changed the height maybe when she cloned those paintings? I'm just not sure.

ETA: I found this on her site:

"I have been asked how I created the stacked paintings in some of my screenshots. If you would like to do the same, you will need to make a sunken room with floor to ceiling windows. Here is a tutorial by Beefysim1 at MTS to show you how to do just that. I would like to note that you do not have to actually place the windows if you don’t need a floor to ceiling window effect."

Hope that helps!

i don't know if this will work on an elder BUT! any other sim i know you can just make them use a birthday cake (at ANY time, they don't need to be close to their birthday) and you can make them older :D

How do I find out what game version I have? Like 1.2.7, 1.3.24, 1.4.6? I'm not sure if I've patch or not and I'm having a horrible time trying to get a mod to work.

arathea 7th Aug 2009 5:31 PM

Open the launcher. You can see the version number at the bottom left.

I would I have never thought to look there. Thanks. (:

How the hell do you move Sims out of a household and give them furniture to take along? Now that you can't just put any old thing in a Sim's inventory (like you could in TS2), how are you supposed to give a Sim their belongings so that he or she has them in his or her new home?

If you use the family inventory in buy mode, the items stay behind in the household the Sim moved out of!

Is there seriously no way to start a Sim off with his possessions?

MondayMorning 8th Aug 2009 5:33 AM

Oh, there is a way for this! :D

I found that when you go to 'Edit Town' and then decide to evict your family, it will give two options. One, is to just simply 'Move' which will 'sell' the possessions and give your family that extra boost in their family funds. The other option is something like 'Move with Inventory,' or something close to it. (I don't have the game running obviously to get the actual text. ) But! If you click this second option, it will move all of the furniture into the Family Inventory (found under Buy Mode) and then when you choose a new house to move the family into, it should give you the option to move the family into a furnished home, or unfurnished. Pick unfurnished, and then place the items from the family inventory into the new home!

Maybe there's an easier way, but this is how I do it.

coltraz 8th Aug 2009 6:29 AM

But if I'm separating two Sims from a household of 4, wouldn't that mean that the 2 Sims left behind now have no furnishings, because the 2 that left took it all? You can't, say, have a child grow into a young adult and then move out of his parent's house, and take along his dresser and bed when he goes, for example.

Sisaly 8th Aug 2009 6:36 AM

I don't know how you would that. What a shame. That's one of the features I miss from TS2. Maybe we'll get lucky and get it in an EP.

MondayMorning 8th Aug 2009 6:43 AM

Ah, I see what you're saying. Hm. My method applies to the whole household. The only other thing I could suggest is putting what items you wanted the two sims to keep into their personal inventory (minus beds--though you can put cars in... ) and then move them out. I'll have to try it, just to see if they keep their own personal inventories or if they lose it upon move out.

coltraz 8th Aug 2009 7:04 AM

Yeah - same here! My Sims ALWAYS took a crap load of stuff from their parent's house. It was a good way to get them started off. The inventory system is screwy.

Oh well. As an alternative I've taken to giving them some of their parent's money. I use family funds and extract however much I want the parents to give them, then add that amount to the kid's funds.

It was more better using Monique's payer/payee mod for this money borrowing. But ah well...

Oh, another question while I'm at it. I had two Sims try romantic interactions with each other, but they wouldn't get interested. They just stayed at "thinks so-and-so is okay", no matter how long I pounded away. I read somewhere people saying that sometimes it is just impossible to set two Sims up for whatever reason. (Maybe one is autonomously gay or they are too incompatible?)

Did anyone else have this issue?

Sisaly 8th Aug 2009 7:04 AM

What are their traits?

Edit:

Other than food, cars, bikes, books, gems, insects, seeds etc...I can't figure out to put ANYTHING into a Personal Inventory.

coltraz 8th Aug 2009 7:15 AM

The guy: Easily Impressed, Family Oriented, Friendly, Hydrophobic.

The girl: Artistic, Family Oriented, Hydrophobic, Loves the Outdoors.

Sounds pretty compatible. The guy has a want to be her first kiss. But she doesn't have any such want concerning him.

Sisaly 8th Aug 2009 7:18 AM

You are missing one trait for each sim. Also, is the 'victim' sim in a relationship?
And what is their relationship status? Friends? Good Friends?

coltraz 8th Aug 2009 7:21 AM

They're just teens, so that's how many traits they have at the moment.

Both of them are single. And they're "best friends".

Sisaly 8th Aug 2009 7:24 AM

Well, I don't have experience with teens but I had that problem with T. Wolff. But he was married and had Commitment Issues. Sorry I can't help, but I feel your frustration.

coltraz 8th Aug 2009 7:27 AM

Oh well, that's okay. Her sister is married to his older brother anyway. And IRL, that would be pretty...awkward.

I have; I had a whole list of friendly actions queaued up, and the NPC sim wouldn't break off talking with my sim long enough to use the bathroom. I wonder if that's because my sim has a charisma of 10, or if it would just happen anyway.

summersong86 8th Aug 2009 6:57 PM

Okay, this has been driving me nuts--how to you get rid of a ROMANTIC INTEREST status?

My sim Emma once had a short 3 or 4 day heavy flirtation leading to a first kiss and a few other kisses with a single neigbhor. He got the ROMANTIC INTEREST designation. Well thanks to story progression, which I'd not disabled at the time, Emma learned through gossip that Jack fathered a child. AND...she also could see his partner status changed from single to partnered with someone named Constance, whom I've yet to see in-game.

I've never actually seen Jack's kid and he's still living with his single male roommate. Still his stat as father and partnered are enough to put me off having Emma pursue him further. She has actually had very limited social contact with him after the initial flirtation. They'd never woo-hoo'd. She has since gone on to become Level 10 in Law Enforcement, with all of the time and work that entails.

Yet she still has that HEART icon for Jack. Now she did buy the Lifetime Happiness award that lets her keep all her friends even if she doesn't interact with them frequently. Is that why she still thinks of Jack as a romantic interest?

How do I get her to think of him just as a friend? I guess I'm being too anal. But if there's a way to stop this silly designation, I'm all ears.

FIGHT FIGHT be mean, get em angry at you.

simwit 8th Aug 2009 7:04 PM

There's actually a simple interaction for it:

Mean... Ask to be just friends.

I've used it a few times. They think you're being unforgivably rude and they get the heartbroken moodlet.

I add an ex-girlfriend that my sim asked to just be friends, and she was perfectly find with it. Her little thingy went from "Ex-girlfriend" to "Friend" or whatever, but I'm sure she was just fine because they were already over. :p

simwit 8th Aug 2009 7:13 PM

Sims with commitment issues don't really care either.

moeppl 8th Aug 2009 7:22 PM

One question: I can't find the "collections" button in the build mode, I want to see all the stuff from the "Chill Set" and so on, don't want to search it manually ingame. But I can't find the collections button, am I too dumb, or isn't there any?

MondayMorning 9th Aug 2009 2:38 AM

I don't think there is an actual Collection button. Not that I've seen. I was just thinking about this the other day too--how nice it would be have everything organized.
