Oh well, I'm disqualified then. I've changed the pictures before I saw your posts. I never saw a countdown timer, just Q's post that said July 21st Hawaii time. Good luck everyone!

I went back and saw the link.. It was for 11 am.. Oh well! Have fun!

QBUILDERZ 21st Jul 2012 8:19 AM

Does anyone care?
/me does not. Contest is supposed to be fun and challenging...plus you've already been scored and it'd be a shame to have it go to waste :P

ForeverCamp 21st Jul 2012 6:59 PM

Update for those of you anxiously awaiting Round 2: my scoring is done! We're just getting the final three contestants put together!

ETA: Learned my lesson this round about waiting until the eleventh hour to start judging. For future rounds, can you guys please note in a new post if you've edited your entry after submission? Given my erratic work schedule and the fact I'm competing in another contest whose rounds end almost simultaneously with this one, I'm going to attempt getting my scoring done as entries come in.

/me runs off to finish her second round entry.

QBUILDERZ 21st Jul 2012 10:35 PM

Okay! Tonight, foundation two will be posted. I am going away for two days, so I am eager to see what you guys have finished when I get back!

Annabel Lee 22nd Jul 2012 4:49 AM

Again, thank you to everyone who's entered!

I just love looking at different design & decorating.
You brought such an array of styles here.
This contest is chock full of awesome eye-candy for the builder in all of us!

I'm excited to see what Round 2 brings!

QBUILDERZ 22nd Jul 2012 5:06 AM

Round two is up! They are a funny thing, angled foundations: People run the other way when faced with them and try to work their way around what is given. Ironically, they should be used more often. Interesting houses always stem from these foundations! So, I thought "Hey. I should make them use an angled foundation. That'd be a real challenge!"

So I am.
You won't be able to work your way around it. You will use diagonal building techniques.
Enjoy your first gimmick, guys.

Hai dear, what patch level did you have when you saved this foundation, I can't install it, but launcher nags I need a software update.

I'm patched to: 1.34 with EPs till pets installed. (there is a new patch I haven't yet installed, due to caw installation, and I dun wanna patch unless it's absolutely necessary.)

ETA: That above just to figure out if it's a patch issue, or something else.

I installed it just fine with patch 1.36, EPs till LN installed. I'm finishing up my build now.

EDIT: I won't be able to finish the build tonight. Gardening takes more time than I thought it would.

Riptide651 22nd Jul 2012 8:59 AM

I'm done judging! Yay!

All the houses submitted are wonderful, and I enjoyed judging them. I put a little constructive feedback on some if it was needed, and I sincerely hope you make the best of it in your future entries.

Oh durn.

I'm still waiting for Q to confirm if he is patched or not though, cause I've been able to install lots with a not matchy patch before, and this should be just a foundation, lol.

Well, there is no rush for me, plenty of time to solve this.

Edit:
Talked with Q, can't still figure why I could install the first foundation with no issues since he says that he's had same patch all along, lol, patched up my game, cause I luff my Qbie, and have the lot now installed and ready to build!

armiel 22nd Jul 2012 8:01 PM

The Nutcase

Hehe, I guess I didn't start strong with this one, with all the issues installing the darn foundation, lol. But I'm still posting my lot first!
(hasty finn is a hasty finn. Also, someone will probably snipe me while I make this post )

I'm still not too much of a blabber when it comes to description, so Imma let you see it for yourselves.

One preview:

Now if you survived the picture overload, lemme tell you a few things about the lot.

The lot has been playtested, with two happy sims.
There is some CC, but SeeMyu's Curtains are just too awesome to be left sitting in the catalog
Mod credits go to Buzzler (where would I be without his mods, huh? <3) and velocitygrass who made the Ossim stencil remover mod
Oh right, and the name of the lot? I asked over at chat, and Dorot... um, Eternila told me to name it Hazelnut Shell. So I named it the Nutcase. Duh.

Vickachu1512 22nd Jul 2012 8:49 PM

Hi everyone! This is my entry for round 2. This foundation had me stumped for about 10 minutes, but once I got to work everything went better than expected. I'm actually quite proud of it!

Wow, Vickachu1512, you did an awesome job with that foundation!
And Armiel, this just gorgeous, as always :lovestruc . You make everything looks great, that's not fair
Well, I guess I better get to it, right?

I just had a little question beforehand: when do we get the grades, and especially the feedback? I can do without but i admit i really enjoy getting feedback on my creations.

Morphead 23rd Jul 2012 12:59 AM

First off, Q I was excited for this!.... Until I realized that you flipped the script and the angled section was a straight section..
Secondly, I wanted to try and make a modern house. Because they can look so awesome and such.
Thirdly, I suck at making modern houses....
Fourth, Armi and Vickachu, so sexy with your homes!
Fifth, Enjoy my house!

UNF! is right! This bitch is bangin! Suited for a lone wolf, GCWK, or a successful business woman, this par-modern home will be the ideal nesting place to be.
This dwelling sports two bathrooms, one bedroom. The general flow is calm and linear. The large windows are designed and angled to let in the maximum amount of daylight, lowering bill costs[19].
A main point in this abode is the kitchen area[28][32]. Flooding with light from the aforementioned windows, it features a beautiful double high ceiling with attractive "floating" lattice work[31].
Moving from the kitchen to the Living Room your first greeted by the slimline fireplace[27]. Two ceiling hung swing chairs give you a perfect view to sit and stare for hours on end at it. I know someone already is.
Upstairs, your given a broad view of, well, everything. Scenic shot of the front yard[17], a majestic picture of the sideyard[18], and a bird's eye view of the kitchen[31].
A second obvious point of this home is the Mack Daddy of carports attached to the house. Using the same "floating" lattice as on the inside there isn't a better looking way to keep your car cool and semi-protected without four walls and a ceiling.

Thanks to HP and Hudy777 for the edgers and windows!

Hello, Well. I didn't like this diagonal foundation because I could only place stairs in two places and it interferred with counter placement. Oh well. It's a simple house with a Mix N Match decor. Not happy with it but whatever. This house is even more suck-a-mundo than the last one.

I think it's all game or store content.

ReyaD 23rd Jul 2012 3:14 AM

Porkypine, do you mind using spoiler tags? It really helps reduce loading time for pages if everyone puts the majority of their photos behind spoiler tags.

PSDuckie 23rd Jul 2012 5:50 AM

Because this round coincided with my getting the Late Night expansion, I decided to make a vampire lair this time. There are three floors, a Plasma Fruit garden, and no windows. That's right, I did not use a single window in the entire build. After all, the whole purpose of windows is to let the sunlight in!

All of my pictures are in the spoiler tags. I hope you like it!

I swear you guys, it only been like two days! Holy shit! I haven't even managed to engineer the perfect heist and you're already entering entries.

Rishara 23rd Jul 2012 10:43 PM

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which way the lot should be rotated. Is the mailbox in the download supposed to be pointing SW or SE? I tried to figure it out from what people have submitted so far, but that just confused me more.

Ugh, thanks. I swear, I went and read it several times and just didn't see that in there. I now know it's Monday. No wonder I was so confused, as everyone has rotated their lots in various directions, heh heh.

I'm so sad I didn't see this contest until today. I would have loved to participate! Everyone has done an incredible job so far, it's so much fun to see what different sorts of things people come up with when challenged with the same starting canvas.

Q, just out of curiosity, can I participate (in a non-judged fashion obviously) just for fun? I'd love to enjoy this contest with all of you!

Fuzzlechan 24th Jul 2012 3:14 AM

Up for judging this time is is bachelorette's paradise! Located in the remote craters of Lunar Lakes, this surprisingly spacious house features just a singe bedroom and a single bathroom. However, unlike many houses in the area, it is also home to a laundry room!

http://i.imgur.com/Hrfsa.jpg?1

The bedroom overlooks the living room, providing an excellent spot to people-watch. The large and plentiful windows allow for the greatest view of the brilliant landscape, while letting in a large amount of light.

EDIT: In addition, I'm on vacation from the 5th of August until the 11th. So I may need an extension on whichever round falls within those dates. I would have said something at the start, but my attendance on said vacation was not decided on until today. =)

I am so impressed by everyone's work! You guys are doing such an amazing job, as well as you, Q, for running such a great contest so far! I can't wait to see what Round 2 leads everyone to build!

Rishara 24th Jul 2012 6:10 AM

All I can say is I'm super impressed by everyone who has their round 2 houses built. Sheesh, it is giving me conniptions, and I've been working on mine for hours now.

Does anyone know how to keep your walls from showing through the windows/doors? That seems to be even more of an issue on this diagonal foundation than normal.

Morphead 24th Jul 2012 9:43 AM

From placing them with MoveObjects on? Or just in general? If via the cheat try using the Wall tool to make a line next to the affected window. You don't actually have to make a wall, just use the tool near it. If that makes sense :P

Beccapixie10 24th Jul 2012 12:44 PM

Some really great houses, everyone!
Armiel, I envy your ability to make a real-life-looking roof on an angled foundation.
Morphead, you really can not say you suck at making modern houses, that's great!

After a couple of failed attempts, I think I might finally be on my way to finishing something. Maybe. I'm having issues with windows snapping to the walls, now. They don't seem to like cooperating... Sigh. I will make it work, dammit!

Just in general. They will place fine and then I'll rotate around the lot and the next time I look at them, the wall is showing and just the frame of the window shows. It's really annoying. I can usually just click on them and it will fix itself, but for some reason I'm having to do that over and over again with this house. Hopefully, I can just do it real fast before taking screenshots and they'll behave enough to get those done.I also have a weird graphical artifact on this house that shows up in the air behind my house. Hopefully I can manage to get screenies without it, as I'm not rebuilding everything now, lol.

Becca - change it to MoveObjects off

This is the Pink sisters - Hydrangea House.

The Pink sisters are identical clones. Know one knows who the original is or if the other is the clone. It was a wild party that night. They are both monster makers. To pretend normalcy, their home is open and airy with many windows. .. Just where is the monster making den?

The house is rather Spartan looking but that is because they are lab techs/mad scientists at heart.

Whew, finally finished this one. I went way outside my comfort zone and built a contemporary (with a bit of an industrial style) house in Lucky Palms. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Note: there are a few weird graphical artifacts on a couple of the screenshots. If ANYONE knows how to get rid of them (there are no actual objects there), let me know, and I'll retake the screenshots. It was super annoying. I did try saving to the library and replacing, using Twallan's mods to reset the lot, etc, to no avail.

This house is home to Bruce Cortland (a prominent architect), his daughter Lilly (spoiled teenager), and his new bride Michelle (2nd wife--a stylist). The color palettes of the house are all meant to blend in well with each other, with the exception of Lilly's room. Being a rebellious teenager, she wanted pink. The outside is largely xeriscaped with only a couple of small patches of lawn due to the desert atmosphere.

Round 2 House

Alright, here's round two. I decided to go for a Twinbrook home because I was interested in exploring a lot of flora and fauna for this one. The theme of nature, flowers, and plants runs throughout the house. Most of the home is made of natural light woods or bright flower colors. All the home has wooden floors and also panelled ceilings.

So here we go:

Thanks all! Hope you like it!

Round 2

Hey Everyone! I finally finished my round 2 house. It took me a while considering I've never built a house on a diagonal foundation. When I first saw the foundation I wanted to do a modern house but I felt like that would be easier, so I went with my more traditional aesthetic. I came up with a cozy 2-story home that would be perfect for a couple with no kids or kids that all grew up, and the couple has a good sum of money. The exterior is traditional, including cornices. (The roof took me probably 2 hours alone! :p) The decor inside is colorful and very cheery yet easy on the eyes and it fits together well. The home has 2 bedrooms and one bathroom, along with a pool, a garden, and an exquisitely landscaped yard. Enjoy!

I couldn't narrow down enough pictures so I ended up with 30 total, so consider yourself warned:

ForeverCamp 27th Jul 2012 6:52 AM

I am finding it so hard to nitpick right now with your Round 2, guys! I JUST WANT TO LOOK AT THE PRETTY HOUSES!

bakafox 27th Jul 2012 8:52 AM

Q, I have a late question- if someone wants to put stairs where it is diagonal and therefore has to do the half-tile overhang so the stairs are straight, is that enough to count as modifying the foundation? or what about deleting the one tile and nesting the stairs in so it's still pretty much same shape, just stairs instead of actual foundation?

AdonisPluto 27th Jul 2012 2:22 PM

For the round two entry, I decided on a modern house. The house was built in Lucky Palms. This house is a one bedroom modern home and is meant for either a single celebrity (male or female ) who is an architect or a married couple without kids (both celebrity too) of which one is definitely an architect.

On entering the lot, you are greeted with the flapping sound of the fountains aligned in the frontage.

The ground floor has the living room modestly furnished through which you can get to the backyard. The study and the library lies directly opposite to the living room. At the end of the passage of the left lies the kitchen. There is a visitor toilet on this floor after all you would't want your visitors using your private one. The up floor has the bedroom to which is attached the architects domain where he/she creates his/her wonderful designs. Through this room, you get to the bathroom which is on a split level. The bedroom lead to a balcony where of course your Sims can sit for a game of chess while at the same time beholding the beauty of the surrounding town.

The outdoor is fully landscaped with modern design in both flowers and tiles and houses a swimming pool and a fitness area close to it.

Great work, everyone. Perfectionist I love yours!

I added a few extra interior shots from play-testing to my entry. I also forgot to mention that there is a wine cellar outside of my house. It's not livable space, just a deep basement for aging nectars. I'm playing the "garage" clause on that one, as the house is built across the road from a fancy nectary.

Wow. You guys are great builders. (dagnabbit competition! I have to actually compete now! ) For some odd reason I've kept to a single floor, thinking 'Ah, Q will have us build a complex split level at some points where I can go vertical!' lol Meantime, I am losing points for being single story and not very inspired. I will have to do better next lot. lol

I was also tempted to 'rough it' by placing a sleeping bag on teh foundation and a canopy over it and a latrine somewhere. lool but I knew I'd get ZERO points for that one.

Bakafox - yes, that is modifying the foundation. There are only two places where you can place the steps. Look at the others floor plans to see it OR, just hover your steps around the foundation until you can find it and then build your house around that.

Well, here my strange place for this round.
Comet Fusion Club is a nighty community lot very popular in my Lunar Lakes world, just what Ego Arrow needs when he feels wild (yes, party animal trait, you know, have to test the lot...). Good music, good drinks, simple things like that. Closure at 02.00 a.m. - Parking is allowed for guests.

Except for the KathyPerrySP, I used all EPs and SPs and few items from the store (some futureshock sets items, the arcade machine, a wall lamp Stancké and other free store objects).

Round 2 Entry: Greek Revival House

28 Attachment(s)
Whew. I never thought I'd finish this. This foundation was very challenging for me but it seems I have succeeded in conquering it. My round 2 entry is a Greek Revival house with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths.

As with my last house I used no custom content, only store content and items from the EPs I own (World Adventures, Late Night, Ambitions, Pets).

QBUILDERZ 28th Jul 2012 3:41 PM

First post updated to contain all currently submitted round two lots! :D

armiel 28th Jul 2012 4:56 PM

Good boy, Q :D

/me approves header1's

Great entries everyone, keep them coming!

AdonisPluto 28th Jul 2012 5:37 PM

It is really an honour to be in this contest with so many creative talents. I am just speechless

QBUILDERZ 28th Jul 2012 6:00 PM

I feel like a bunch of the entries so far would make excellent lots on site. If anyone decides to upload them, keep us updated! I'll swing by and drop a comment

Perfectionist 28th Jul 2012 7:19 PM

I think I'll upload all of my entries after the contest is over, but I'll have to remove/and or credit a lotttt of CC, I should probably keep that in mind during the future rounds.

Anyway, everyone's houses are spectacular and I can't wait to see the scores!

Rishara 28th Jul 2012 7:20 PM

Sigh, they have the full Ultra Lounge set for 50% off in game right now. Of course, I just bought that like a week ago at full price.

Just thought I'd throw that out there if anybody else was looking at it but hadn't bought it yet.

I actually would like to submit my round 2 entry, but I'd have to redo the lot to get rid of all the weird graphical crap I have going on there.

ReyaD 28th Jul 2012 7:29 PM

I was thinking of uploading my round 2, but the black accent walls aren't very photo friendly. I might change the colour and smooth out one of the walls to make it more player friendly... and of course remove a good 80% of the CC xD.

Beccapixie10 29th Jul 2012 1:39 AM

I'm tempted to play around with my Round 1 entry a little bit and upload it, and maybe do the same with Round 2 in a while. I just have to find time first. xD

porkypine 29th Jul 2012 3:08 AM

Go for it Becca! I'm thinking about uploading my round 1 but my round 2 generally sux. lol

PSDuckie 29th Jul 2012 4:00 AM

I'm going to upload all of my entries to both MTS and the official Exchange. However, I'm going to put a clothing hamper into my round 1 entry before I upload it. I didn't realize that not having a hamper would mess up the laundry system.

GigaRevival 29th Jul 2012 4:05 AM

There's quite a few lots this round that I wouldn't mind downloading. *hint hint*

Great job everyone!

sharill63 30th Jul 2012 2:04 AM

Participation question...Foundation Challenge

I would like to try this, but missed the first entry. Can I start with the second round and continue or just do it for fun this time?

I love all the ones I've seen so far, so I know I have my work cut out for me!

Thanks a bunch!

GigaRevival 30th Jul 2012 2:26 AM

sharill63: If you scroll up, you'll see that a similar question was answered by porkypine: "Q will let you load 'samples' but you won't be a contestant because you missed the 1st round."

As far as I can tell, you can certainly join for fun - but it won't be scored and such.

I'm looking forward to your houses!!! :D

QBUILDERZ 30th Jul 2012 4:12 AM

Thanks, Giga! I see all you guys have the fort held down quite well :D

Just an update days:

Time is running outttttt! 2 days left and stuff : )

sharill63 30th Jul 2012 6:07 AM

Thanks Giga! I must have missed that one on my way down. I'll have to keep closer tabs on the challenge threads to make sure I don't miss the next one!! *might as well do the "entry" foundation challenge too, just to have a full set!

lewjen 30th Jul 2012 2:32 PM

1 day and 9 hours to install the foundation and build on it... challenge accepted. :D

EDIT: Pff, and I need to update my game. This just gets better :P

Annabel Lee 31st Jul 2012 7:11 AM

Go, builders, go!
Round 2 is turning out some impressively awesome lots!

Can't wait to see some more diagonal creativity!

QBUILDERZ 31st Jul 2012 7:41 PM

Just a few hours left!

The scoring sheet will be made later tonight; foundation #3 will be up tomorrow (later in the day)

(And BTW, I had the clock set to AM instead of PM, so you got an additional 12 hours tacked back on )

sandymdh 31st Jul 2012 8:36 PM

I was determined to avoid the trap of going modern (it's a trap for me as I really struggle with them) and actually when I googled 'triangular balconies' the first image that came up was Sicilian so I went with a classical Italian theme. Due to the weird shape I called it 'Tuscan Twist'.

Just a -little- CC you got there, mommy (ETA: I hit on the funny button just due to this)

Few more entries missing, but there is still time! Great lots everyone, who has posted their round two already

Beccapixie10 31st Jul 2012 11:45 PM

For anyone who's interested, my Round 1 lot has been uploaded -> here.

I'm going to be pushing it for time for round 3, I think. I've got a lot on for the next week and a half, so hopefully Q's in a good mood when he makes the foundation and it's not too hard.

lanawinst 31st Jul 2012 11:49 PM

All right, so the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that foundation was*: modern house*! It would have made perfect sense to take full advantage of all the weird angles but I wanted to try something different and I was sooo inspired... until I started getting stuck and running out of time to make something decent out if it

Here's my middle-eastern inspired house

BTW, thanks for the grade. It's always an eye opener. I used to think I sucked at landscaping. Turns out it's been my redeeming quality
So far at least^^

ReyaD 31st Jul 2012 11:52 PM

Round 3 I'll have plenty of time, but Round 4 I'll be out of the country with sporadic internet, so it'll be interesting what I can manage to create without access to tutorials.

My lots have also been uploaded and can be found at the following:

Round 1 : Family Retreat

Round 2 : Modern Hideaway

Lol, yea it does seem like a ton when it is written out but it just looks that way because most of those I only used one item but then others I used quite a bit. :D

**dabs sweat off brows of Round 2 contestants**
Brav-o everyone!

Such varied house styles, too!
There's a lot of creativity up in this thread!
I lurve it!

CreativeMommy~
I cannot resist... Have you seen this nifty sampler?

Self-admitted CC freak here. And, yes, I have it^ in my game

Fuzzlechan 1st Aug 2012 1:47 PM

Finally ungrounded! Glad I submitted my round two entry as soon as I finished it, instead of waiting. xD

Haha! No I have not seen that before but I love it! Now everyone has seen how obsessed I am with CC. *hides away* I'm sorry, I just don't like a lot of the EA stuff, CC is just so purty, I can't help it. :D

Annabel Lee 1st Aug 2012 3:22 PM

Oh, CreativeMommy, no need to hide away & don't apologize! **there there**
I totally agree with you
And just when I say Nope! My game can't take anymore!... someone comes along with a must have! And the spree begins! LOL

Fuzzlechan! Welcome back!

Lol, I hear you. The only reason I don't have so much right now is that I had all of mine stored on an external hard-drive, which died. I recently had to reformat my main drive, so I lost everything I had and have had to start re-downloading stuff.

ROUND 2 IS OVER

GigaRevival 1st Aug 2012 5:13 PM

Whew! Let the judging commence!

So excited to take a nice, long look at everyone's entries. From what I have seen so far - it looks like everyone did a frakking fantastic job.

ForeverCamp 1st Aug 2012 7:26 PM

Onto the judging, folks! A lot of lovely houses to ogle over the next day or two! :D

There was a countdown timer below the Round 2 banner in the first post. It's been there since the round began.

Like ReyaD said above there was a timer under the round two post. Of course it was taken into consideration that so many of us stay in different time zones and thats the reason for the timer so that we all have an official base reference time irrespective of time our zone

QBUILDERZ 1st Aug 2012 10:21 PM

I ended this round the same way as the first round; it ended ON August 1st (11:59:59 July 31st)

However, I'm not a stickler. If you can try and get it in today/tomorrow morning, that'd be fine.

ROUND 3 FOUNDATION POSTED

SCORES PENDING

UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS ROUNDS, YOU WILL HAVE UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY ON THE 12th TO FINISH YOUR ENTRY (see the countdown, just to be sure!)

Morphead 2nd Aug 2012 9:29 PM

Q, you sly dog. I love the new foundation

Perfectionist 2nd Aug 2012 10:53 PM

I have a question, is flattening the lot in the front considered "altering the foundation" or "adjusting the height", because you said we could do whatever with the terrain, so I got rid of one of the holes in the lawn. The foundation is the same height and shape, I just wanted to make sure it isn't against the rules.

Ah, I meant to clarify this! Yeah, you are completely allowed to edit the terrain still. If you feel like you still need the 4 click height to work, you can raise the terrain/lower it/etc.
