A CAW question. Can you upload an existing map into the tool? I mean, if you download a world from here for example, can you tranfer that world back to caw so you can change lot zonings, or change the terrain abit.

I would love to be able to do similar editing and from what I have learned the answer seems to be no. You have to ask the creator of that world to share their CAW version of the world file, not the completed version for use in game. I'm pretty sure this is the case because I've seen experienced CAW users publicly ask a creator to share their file so they can make small edits for personal use--and have seen them get turned down. The reason for the refusal is to avoid the original file getting edited and reuploaded as an original creation.

So, I would imagine if you have to ask for the original CAW version of the world just to make a personal edit you have no intention of sharing--there must be no way to do what you're asking. At least none known, yet.

Oh YOU CAN CHANGE LOT ZONINGS though in the actual game. In Edit Town mode, click on the lot and the icon at the far left lets you change zoning. You can go from Residential to Community and pick from various subgroups of community lots offered. You can not change beautiful vista settings though, to my knowledge. Sorry I don't know without looking which icon it is.

Thank you for the info, I'll have to ask the creater for the caw version of the town. Lot zoning seem to have been the wrong word choise here. I meant to change some of the lots, because the creator has put big lots on some of the srtreets, and I would rather have smaller ones.

K, so the idea of ambrosia always befuddles me.

I read somewhere that the more times you eat ambrosia, the closer you get to becoming truly immortal. So what are the effects of eating one ambrosia, two ambrosia, etc? And at what point (if ever) do they truly become 'immortal'?

By immortal, I mean they never age up past their current stage, if at all possible.

MdMaxx 8th Feb 2010 3:31 AM

I was always under the impression that Ambrosia let them live indefinitely.

Ah, I read the source again and apparently I didn't read it closely enough.

http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/s...ng/ambrosia.php

"Ambrosia can bring Sims as ghosts back from the dead, just get them to eat it. Additionally, it can reset the age bar, allowing Sims to jump back to the beginning of the life phase they're currently in. It won't make an elder into an adult, but it can keep that elder from dying."

So it won't make your age bar static like I was hoping, but you do have to keep eating it. I answered my own question

mikey 8th Feb 2010 4:58 AM

The effects of ambrosia are controlled by a tuning mod. this tuning mod is set to allow the sim to regain .2 of the lifespan. This generally translates to day 0 of the age stage. However, increasing this number regenerates more days for that life stage.

For example, if you play at the default 90 day life cycle and it takes 21 days to age from Young adult to Adult. Eating ambrosia should put your sim at day 0 with 21 days to age up approximately. Eating a second plate of ambrosia has no effect, in other words they don't add together.

I edited the tuning file and changed the .2 to 2.5 (I think) and my sims have 84 days before aging up to adult. I don't know if there is a limit to the range for this number. Never really tested for that.

So your sim can be SO YOUNG that even as an adult, they are technically younger....than a toddler? @_@

No, from what I understood he said that he cut the green wire so that in his game, eating ambrosia actually raises the age limit until the next age up, so his sims have 84 days until becoming an adult.

So, if you cut more green wires you can raise the age cap indefinitely, effectively making them immortal with one ambrosia, but you can't regress your sim's age.

So I have some questions...

1. Can flirty sims flirt with relatives? I had 2 teen sisters and one had the flirty trait, so when I clicked on 'Special' the flirty menu came up and they flirted! After that, the entire Romantic menu opened up (only for the flirty sim) so they could kiss, hug, etc. However, while they still showed up as sisters in the relationship menu, but on the family tree, the non-flirty one has the other listed as "friend", though they are still connected by the lines, while it still says sister on the other's family tree. Is this a glitch in my game or can flirty sims always flirt with their relatives?

2. Can you add lots through Edit Town like you could in Sims 2? Or can you only build/place homes on already existing lots? I'd like to add more usable lot space, as the neighborhood I'm using has mostly 16x18 lots, so I can place my downloaded homes on them.

3. I populated an entire empty neighborhood with CAS sims, each family having its own background story, etc. I had one family with a stay-at-home dad, whose lifetime wish was to be surrounded by family and he was family-oriented. He had no wants to go to work or anything, but when I switched to a different family and gave the sim a job, my stay-at-home dad was listed as the boss! I read here that others were having similar difficulties, except with random townies spawning. That wouldn't bother me so much, but I'd like my sims with background stories to remain consistent. Any way to stop this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1) Sounds like a glitch. Relatives are supposed to always be off-limits.

2) No, you can't add lots at all - only rebuild on existing ones. You'd have to use Create a World to add more lots, but you can't do that to an existing neighborhood, or even to a decently populated copy of Riverview/Sunset Valley.

3) Sounds like story progression bit you in the ass. Turn it off if you want your playable sims to stay as you left them, or you can get a core mod that will allow you to mark specific sims as "sacred" (unchangeable).

I keep my sims' graves in the backyard, and I haven't had this problem until recently. There are two ghosts who came out of their graves to haunt at night, and now they just won't go back. Was it because of the patch? Is there any way to force them back into their graves?

To do that without using the editsim cheat; make the toddler the active sim and click on a mirror to change hairstyles, to change clothes you can just click on a dresser.
Your toddler has to be on the same floor/level of the house as the dresser though (I think.)

Want to ask about worlds. I downloaded a custom world from MTS a few moments ago, but when I try to install it, the installer says that I need a software update. What software is it talking about and what can I do to update it?

mikey 12th Feb 2010 11:55 AM

assuming by "installer" you are referring to the "launcher", then it's probably alerting you to the fact there is a game update or that you need to update to install the world.

vhanster 12th Feb 2010 12:41 PM

And how do I know what this 'game update' is, so I can install it?

Menaceman44 12th Feb 2010 2:04 PM

When you run the Sims 3 Launcher, if there is a game update available there will be a little (!) symbol next to the bottom tab on the left which should say "Update (!)". When you click on the tab it should change the panel on the right giving you the option to update your game.

MdMaxx 12th Feb 2010 6:42 PM

That will only happen if you have the EA Game Manager installed.

Is my graphics card being funny, or are some rooms in the nectary tomb really pitch-black?

Claeric 12th Feb 2010 7:39 PM

Those are soulpeace statues, and those are pretty much th ebrightest lamps in the game, so I'd say something is being weird.

mangaroo 12th Feb 2010 7:48 PM

treeag, it's the way those particular tombs are designed. As far as I can tell, there's nothing interactive in the pitch-black areas. I think the designers were just looking to emphasize those two rooms dramatically.

suzetter 12th Feb 2010 7:56 PM

There should be light there. I had that happened to one of my sims in another tomb (Celtic Ruins, I think). I had her back track a few rooms and then re-enter that part of the tomb. The second time she entered the room it lit up.

LethalLaurie 12th Feb 2010 8:04 PM

I always thought that rooms would only be pitch black until a sim entered them, but from the picture, I don't see how your sim could've gotten into the tiny room without passing through the dark room. Weird.

treeag 12th Feb 2010 8:02 PM

Ah, thanks. Glad it's not my card. I thought it was a glitch or something because it looked really weird.

Edit: So there are two more replies while I was typing So is it my card, my game, or THE game?

el_flel 13th Feb 2010 2:38 AM

Some rooms go black again after a sim has left them I thought. Although if you can still see items in the black room then I would be inclined to think it was a little game glitch, but nothing horrible. Does the room light up if your sim goes back into it?
