Can children discover potions? I have a kid who's got 3 logic points from the chemistry table but still he's not discovered anything. Do I have to wait until he's a teen or is it possible for him to discover something while still a kid.

You could use twallan's Overwatch Mod, which change the flow of time in the game.

Its Relativity, not Overwatch. Although, I want to change time from 8am to whatever I want (10pm maybe?) instead of waiting for the time to take pictures. Like, instantly changing the time.

Agreed. I could have sworn I saw the option to set the time on the testingcheatsenabled mailbox menu before, though may be wrong.

He can discover potions while still a child. I have a couple of children who have discovered potions.

Okay it's been AGES since I last played the Sims...

I was making a character for a friend, and after I was done I realised the medal on his chest...

I can't find a button to remove it as it doesn't show up in the accessories section...how do I remove it please?

That is the sim in question, and you can see the medal on his neck...

Thanks guys!

Srikandi 9th Aug 2011 4:29 AM

Don't see anything on his chest in that pic but some jewelry (most of it, actually) is part of the clothing rather than a separate accessory. So: change his shirt

Redbottom 9th Aug 2011 11:27 AM

can you somehow expand your ingame family tree to somehow show everyone that is in it, regardless of how distantly they might be related?
im kinda working on a challenge-idea, and that would be really helpful

It's really hard to see in the first pic, but he's wearing one of the Ambitions reward medals. Just type "unlockoutfits on" (you may need to do "testingcheatsenabled true" before that, I can't remember) and go into CAS again. The medals should then be selectable under the Accessories tab. After you're done type "unlockoutfits off" and everything should be back to normal. How you got it enabled in the first place is of course a completely fifferent question.

How about using the cheat 'sethour [NUMBER]'? I generally use 'sethour 7' so that my game is set to 7am when I start taking pictures(:

Hey guys thanks for the tip...it's not part of his clothes as it is with EVERY outfit he has!

How do I type these codes you've mentioned? Sorry I've never cheated with these ones before :P

Thanks! :D

Menaceman44 9th Aug 2011 7:42 PM

Hold down CTRL+Shift+C and a box will open along the top of the screen to allow you to type in the cheat. Then press the Enter key to submit.

Oh that worked! Thanks a lot guys! :D

By the way, I've been on modsims for ages, and I LOVE it.
Just haven't been an active member of the community...we'll see if I manage to rectify that sometime! :D

Nice to meet you all and thanks again!

I suspect that you are pranked.
I have this little problem with answering phone, a bit annoying, I think it starts after patch 1.24, whenever my sim receive a phone call, there would be numerous queued aunomous answer. I want to know if anyone has the same glitch, or it's just something wrong with my game.

carro123 10th Aug 2011 4:55 PM

How can I get rid of all the paparazzis? They're starting to annoy me .........

Menaceman44 10th Aug 2011 7:46 PM

noxnoxnox, I've never come across that in my game which is fully patched to 1.24. I don't have Townlife yet though.
carro123, I don't think you can unless you stop playing celebrity Sims.

I have 2 games with no celebs, and both still have paparazzi, - but they don't do anything annoying as far as I've seen, just wander around.

coffeebreak 10th Aug 2011 10:28 PM

How do I get my sim (who already has maxed out her gardening skill) to plant the omni plant? Is it too late? I read somewhere that seeds for the omni plant are triggered during the period when the skill level is a 7 (or possibly 8, can't remember). For some reason I can't ever get a sim to get that opportunity chain, and they always miss it. Figured the sim would be able to eventually grow an omni plant once her skills maxed out, but apparently not.

How do I make her grow the omni plant when her skills are already maxed out and she never got the opportunity? I don't mind using a cheat, as it's too easy to miss that opportunity chain.

Is there a rabbithole or something I can click on (with "testingCheatsenabled true") to make the opportunity pop up? That would be the easist way, for my next sim.

That cheat does exist. In Sims 2.
I suspect it got too complicated with the whole neighborhood being on the same schedule to do it for Sims 3.

My sim got the Omni plant "quest" at 10th level gardening. It was a bit surreal to have the restaurant manager say "come back when you've reached skill level 9".

You can always get Twallan's mod and see if you are still eligible for that opportunity. It doesn't show opportunities that you are ineligible for.

Don Babilon 10th Aug 2011 11:42 PM

coffeebreakI think the ability to plant an Omniplant seed comes with level 10. Receiving the opportunity, however, is the only way to get the first seed. Having level 10 in gardening but not getting the chain is quite usual, and depending on how many different skills your Sim has it might take a very long time before you receive it. MasterController has an option to trigger opportunities as well as DebugEnabler and AwesomeMod. Whether shift-clicking on the Restaurant with tstingcheatsenabled will trigger it, too, I don't know.

noxnoxnox Do you use a mod that extends number of actions that can be queued?

Lycoris 10th Aug 2011 11:54 PM

I know that this has been asked before, but Im still reading through the beginning of this monster of a thread and haven't come across it yet...

How on earth can I bring back a ghost?

I've been playing with Crumplebottom for about two sims weeks, and want her to have a ghost baby with her dead husband. Her story is tragic, don't ya'll think?

The opportunity for the Science Lab hasn't come up yet even though I was told that it should have came around 5 Sim days.

Any ideas?

(And yes, Im majorly new to Sims 3. I just started with Sims 3 Deluxe about three days ago. Its severely throwing me for a loop after playing Sims 2 for so long. LOL)

Redbottom 11th Aug 2011 8:55 PM

Lycoris- actually you dont need to bring him back to (un)life. just wait for him to appear one night and then try for baby with him. make sure you have high enough relationship with him tho. after that it is pretty mucha 50-50 chance that the baby will be a ghost. so save as close to labor as possible, and relode game if needed.
if you really want to bring him back tho, you have to wait for the opportunity. i think some mods allow you to trigger oportunitys at will, but im not sure how that works

Okay so I just got me one of those, but I have two babies!

Aren't there ones with 2 seats or something?

Hi all!

This question has probably been answered a million times, but hey, that's why I picked this thread. I'd like to start a little blog just to share the Sims I've created -- no items, just Sims -- and was wondering if I save them to my library in CAS, is it enough to upload the *.sim file to mediafire? If so, will the sim come with all its custom content or will that be left out?

Thanks a bunch!

Ok, stupid question regarding celebrities.
I have a sim in Twinbrook trying to become a celebrity, however this is the first time I've tried this and I'm having a few difficulties.
How do you gain points? Because there are no other celebrities in town the only points gained are through opportunities, which she has never gotten, and through work jobs? However by acting level 5 she still has no star.

I have no hacks asides from Twallans, and definitely not the celebrity hack from MTS. However I did have this in the past. When I use Twallans mods to give her a star the next time I enter the game it's gone. Furthermore even if I take her to get photographed by the paparazzi her meter towards a second star doesn't increase at all, even when she had had her photo taken over 19 times. Is this normal? From what I've heard peoples towns get overrun by celebrities so I find it a bit strange that this town has none.

My main question is is this a known glitch, some problem in my game, or completely normal?

If there's no celebrities in your town, that's normal. What I recommend instead of giving her a star using Twallan's mod, use the one below it which gives you celebrity points, and give her enough to make star level one plus halfway to level two, that's enough so that the level won't degrade down.

Thanks, Redbottom.

I just found out that I can use one of the mods that I just downloaded (DeBug Enabler) to spawn ghosts/create playable ghosts on the lot, so I'll probably do that instead of waiting for the opportunity to pop up.

ani_ 15th Aug 2011 10:35 AM

I made a "No Visitors Allowed" forest in my game, and added a pond and a "deathfish/graveyard" fish spawner. But, when my fisher man clicks on the water to "Inspect Water", there are vampire fish and angel fish in the pond, but no mention about the death fish. Is the death fish there even thou it's not mentioned? or does the lot type needs to be a graveyard before I get death fish?

Don Babilon 15th Aug 2011 11:52 AM

IIRC the Death Fish spawner does not contain any Angel Fish, maybe you placed a wrong spawner. During the day it should be Vampire Fish, Red Herring and I think one more ordinary fish (Black Goldfish?) and from 0 a.m. to 5 a.m. the Death Fish will appear, too. It doesn't need to be a graveyard lot for the Death Fish to appear, any lot will do.

Ok, quick question. I just downloaded Jasumi's Oahu world, but for whatever reason all the lots there are insanely expensive, so I can't add new sims because they can't afford even a tiny starter home when placed there. I remember seeing a cheat somewhere that you could use to make the lot more affordable, but now I can't find it. Anyone know what I mean?

I know what you mean. I don't understand why a lot cost a million dollars, especially if I am starting the world. I know that he was going for the realism, but a million dollars?

What I did, I used world editor to pick up the lot and then put it back. It brought the cost back to normal, but you do lose the address and any buffs added to the lot. I don't care anyway. I don't use most homes there anyway, I use my own.

ShortyBoo 21st Aug 2011 8:51 PM

Well, I did find the cheat I was looking for. I forgot it was part of AwesomeMod since I'd only seen it mentioned and have never done that particular cheat before. You just enter the lot and enter the cheat "wandhere" and it reduces the price. Hopefully this will help with Oahu.

Thranduil Oropherion 21st Aug 2011 9:32 PM

when you are about to place your sims, make sure you have testingcheatsenabled and ctr-shift-click and type in freerealestate then you can move your sims into any home regardless of price and with no need for mods.

You can make money through Martial Arts by selling gems from breaking space rocks.

I don't think there's a Martial Arts career and as Stepper says, you can sell the gems from breaking space rocks. I don't think that makes it a career though...

If you have Twallan's Career Mod(and the SelfEmployed Module), your sim can earn money from sparring and training sims. The only other method is what Stepper and lisfyre have already stated: breaking space rocks, collecting the gems, and selling them for simoleons.

Is it possible to have a bad prom experience? So far all my teens have had fun.

rinirae 27th Aug 2011 7:15 AM

Is there a way to make a garage attached to foundation without distorting the surrounding walls? Same goes for L/U-Shaped Stairs and any other build that requires using CFE on.
It always ends up like this when I make them, and it's kept me from wanting to build houses like that.

Menaceman44 27th Aug 2011 3:45 PM

That's probably going to be a 'no' which is why you only ever see plain walls (or if they have stripes then verticle) on the affected walls.

My sim is at level 10 in cooking, knows all the recipies, and has the best appliances.

But, in order to make 'Baked Angel Food Cake' I need to have some kind of fruit. (I think it might be a flame-fruit or something.) She has zero in gardening. So I was wondering, how do you start off? I have no idea how to plant seeds or anything, so any help would be appreciated.

buy the 1st book at the book store -- you get seeds and what not when you do, I believe. (or do like I do and get all three and read them before planting.

autobiography

How does my writer sim get the option to write an autobiography? Also I still can not figure out how to read a bed time story to my sim kid. Do they have to be resting, sleeping or do I click on the bed or child? I have been trying all sorts of things and I don't get the option to do read a bedtime story. Thanks

Menaceman44 28th Aug 2011 12:26 AM

Toddler or Child Sims must be tired before the option shows up and then if you click on them with a Teen or older there should be an option to "Read Bedtime Story". If you have a Child selected and click on a Teen or older you should get the "Ask For Bedtime Story" option. You will then be able to choose what book is read to the Toddler/Child and the Sim who will do the reading goes and fetches it from the bookcase.
No matter how cute it sounds, it takes FOREVER and often fails. A number of times I have had the Sim who should have been fetching the book just give up and wander off.

Oh and I think the autobiography can only be written about other Sims through an opportunity. I had my writer write one once when he received a phone call asking him to from another Sim in town.

Mod... of course The one I use is http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=425861 , which doesn't eliminate em but cuts down on them drastically. For instance, there's a version which will only spawn them at celeb level 5, and restrict em to one per lot.

Gardening skill info: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title...ims_3_Gardening

It requires a "special" seed, which you'll have to look for around town, and requires level 7 gardening to plant.

You may be able to find some already growing around town though, depending on what world you're playing Also, if you have WA, there's an early quest in the Egypt series that will get you into a tomb full of flame fruit.

Or, you can cheat and find flame fruit plants in BuyDebug and put them on your lot... or get one of the mods that makes special foods buyable

If you DO want to learn and level your gardening skill, you can start by finding seeds around town, or you can just plant (low-level) fruits and veggies from your fridge or the store. You will get some free seeds when you get to level 1 in gardening, but you don't have to do that before you start. You plant by clicking the seeds or food in your inventory; then you can place them anywhere on your lot (on dirt).

That's a biography (a book about somebody else's life). You unlock the autobiography genre (a book about the writer's own life) by writing three biographies. Writing skill info: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title...:Sims_3_Writing

rosieposiepudnpie 28th Aug 2011 2:48 PM

Thank you Menaceman and srikandi, I will try those things. I have never has the option to write 3 biographys. The most I had was one. I guess they will never write an autobiography. Also, about the reading to the kids. I never let my kids get that tired. No wonder I never seen the option. Thanks again.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for the social friendly action 'stay over' (sleep over? not sure about the exact words in English Sims 3). The romantic version usually shows when I expect it and so does move in together. When I throw a party it would be nice if I could ask some sims to stay after, but somehow I rarely see that option (while seeing romantic sleep over and move in option).

If I remember right, you can't actually purchase those things ( even in buy debug) without a mod that's here on mts. Just search for buyable trash chute

Apocryphallen 1st Sep 2011 1:28 AM

Okay scrap my last question.. I figured it out, yay !

Now.. another stupid.. how do I make someone move into my new apartment? Do I have to wait...? Or with some mod or something force someone to move into it? (It's kinda like a basement apartment)

Make sure to read the tutorial on creating a custom apartment here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...ms_3_Apartments

Depending on the game and the world population, it may take up to a week for an NPC/townie to move into an apartment.

Twallan's mastercontroller mod has a function that can force an available NPC to move into a vacant apartment, but only if the apartment door is properly designated.

if there's a thread/walkthrough/smack in the head please direct me to it...i've watched umteen million (exact count) youtube videos on building etc in the sims 3 and countless google searches and i'm either missing it...or have yet to find it
I think you'll need the "constrainfloorelevation false" cheat but I'm not sure as I've never attempted that on my own buildings.
It indeed can be done but only with the cheat that Menaceman44 mentioned. You have to use the cheat to flatten regular walls to foundation height and then build normal walls on top of those. If you check out the Create section there are great tutorials in there and I am 99.99% certain that you will find one that shows you how to do what you want. I think it worked the same way in TS2 and TS3, so if you find one for TS2 you can probably use it anyway.

Where exactly is this NPC option ? I looked everywhere in mastercontroller and could not find it?! :/

yes just double click them. i do believe there is a mod here that helps you manually patch your game. or just click patch and read about it.

How do I stop the stupid sneaking bug when the teen has been "let off the hook" yet still sneaks everywhere, help! (sry if this was answered somewhere else...)

el_flel 4th Sep 2011 6:34 PM

Have you tried the resetsim cheat? In the cheat bar type " resetsim [firstname] [lastname] " and it will reset them. It might get rid of the sneaky walk but I've not had this issue so am not 100%.

Oh I probably should have mention that you need to use the nraas menu on the door

If the NPC apartment is designated correctly, you should be able to click on the door and click NRAAS --> mastercontroller --> and in the menu, there should be an add sim option.

Try this mod. You should be able to correct the walkstyle so they're not sneaking anymore.

You can extract the package files from the Sims3Packs (with for instance Delphy's Multi-Installer) and then install them like any other package files. (A Sims3Pack is just a package file with a wrapper around it.) Or you can use the beta version of Granthes's Custom Launcher v2 to install them (that will extract them and merge them with your other package files for better performance, while keeping them individually manageable).

Is there any way of getting out of an engagement if your Sim cheats on their fiance and the fiance knows? Will they be forced to take marriage rejection or will you still be able to break up?

Paeonia 5th Sep 2011 10:53 AM

Okay. i don't know if this has been asked before. But i searched this forum and google both, with no luck. sorry if this is the wrong section of the forum to ask in. i looked around and it /seems/ like the best fitting. This is my first post though so i'm not sure.

Anyways.. i wondered if there was a mod to stop sims from "grabbing a plate" of food when the Butler (or other sims) make food? Like so a sim ignores it, unless they are actually hungry? It gets tiring 'canceling' sims rushing to 'grab a plate' of food every time someone cooks, even if the sim is completely full (like they just ate two seconds ago). So i wondered if there was a mod to stop this behaviour.

Edit: apparently i did post before on a thread i totally forgot about checking back for replies on >_< thanks to the people that responded on my other post! even though i'm sure this is the wrong place to say thanks, i just didn't want to bump my old old post. now that i have remembered it and see the responses.

harlequinzombie 6th Sep 2011 12:51 AM

McChoclatey: You should be able to break up no matter what the sims are to each other (boyfriend/girlfriend, fiance, or husband/wife).

I hope this isn't too stupid for even 'Stupid Questions', but I have failed to find the answer.

I play a custom world that lacks rabbit holes. Where are the basic ones like City Hall, Bistro, School etc. to be found? (If they should be with other community lots, then my game is broken for they are not.)

Rabbitholes are not actual lots, but objects that must be placed on a lot. First pick a community lot. Go into the build mode through Edit Town and there should be a little building in the build panel to the far right. Click it and you shall find the rabbitholes. The rabbitholes are quite big, so you will want to make sure that you have enough space before placing them.

Grab Jynx Rabbit Hole Rugs from the download section and you are good to go, they are just tiny rugs, weigh about 30kb/each, easy to put anywhere you want.

I just downloaded 4 things from here. The first two downloaded correctly in the zip format. The other two things I downloaded were not zipped. Why would it do that, and how do I fix it. I am using 7zip. Thanks.

There can be multiple reasons for that, so an exact link to the download in question and/or information on which file extension do these files have would make helping you much easier.

Most probably though, it's corrupt/incomplete download: Check if file size of your downloads matches one reported on the download page. Also, some browsers mistakenly save this site's "sorry, there's an error" page as if it was a real file, if you right click ->"save as" instead of left clicking. Try to re-download it using left click and see what happens.

It is a rar file. The size is the same. I tried again and still the same issue. By the way I really liked the link on how to show file extentions. I understood it perfectly. I do so much better when things are visualy shown to me. Here is the thing I am trying to download.

For .rar files, you need something like winrar that will open them. There are several free programs that can do this. Just google .rar exctractor.

7zip can extract .rar files just fine, however it doesn't open them with left-click by default. If you right-click on the file though, and select "7zip->Extract files..." menu item, it would work.

Or, if you don't mind WinRAR nagging you to pay to the developer (or actually paying), this site auto-links the word rar to a guide on how to get and use it.

Thanks both of you. I am using 7zip because I tried WinRAR and like you said I didn't like the nagging. My first two files I downloaded were in the 7zip format, the one I linked to and another one were not even zipped when I downloaded them. I did this all the same day. So why would my computer all of a sudden download in an unzipped form while two others were not. Or is it the downloads it's self?

I just went and redownloaded one of the two that downloaded fine before and it downloaded just fine. I just don't get it. Thanks again

ac220 7th Sep 2011 3:29 PM

All files on this site are (to my belief) compressed (or archived*, or less formally, "zipped" even when the resulting file isn't an actual .zip file. ) 7zip can produce/read its own format (files with .7z extension) and produce/handle some other types of archives. (.zip and .rar among them.)

Truly uncompressed downloads for TS3 would have had either .package or .sims3pack extensions.

As to why there are several compression formats instead of everybody just using .zip files? On this site - it's basically a decision of an individual download author. Everyone uses whatever they're most comfortable with, within site guidelines.

In general, - well, basically it's because large companies like IBM**, MS or Apple largely ignored archive formats for decades and the whole field was left in the hands of small companies with big patents and freeware/open source communities thinking up patent-free alternatives. The full story of file archivers could be a fascinating tale of math genius and cutthroat competition, or it could be a boring lecture, depending on the storyteller.

*compression and archiving are technically two different operations, but most modern software does both in one step, so the distinvtion is less important.
**Although IBM did hold an important patent on LZW algorithm, and licensed it widely, they didn't try to leverage it into One True Archiver status for their software.. Were that patent owned by M$, things might have been dfifferent.

Claire the Bear 9th Sep 2011 2:12 AM

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I didn't know where else to put it.
Basically, my question is, is there any other way for a child to develop the pyromaniac trait apart from if one or both of their parents are/have been in the fire-fighter career?
I ask this because I currently have a teenage sim with this trait. But her parents were both teen parents working part time at the spa when she was born. Now as young adults, her mother is a doctor and a father is a writer. Neither of them have been or currently are part of the fire-fighter profession yet their daughter has this hidden trait...I have no idea how this happened
The teen's grandmother was the Firechief of Riverview. And her grandfather was a soot stripper. Is there any chance that the trait could have skipped a generation? Her sister and brother of the same parentage are not pyromaniacs.
Could this be a glitch? Or a mod?

Menaceman44 9th Sep 2011 12:15 PM

I'm not sure but I think hidden traits can skip generations.

Stupid Question Concerning Fog Emitters...

Hi Folks,

I bought Ambitions solely for the fun things I could do with the Emitters, but I can't seem to get them to work.

No matter what I try to do, I can't see the FE effect ingame.

I've set them to several different effects, (as found on the 'net), but I never get to see the appropriate animation.

I hoped this was an ingame graphics problem; as I normally run Sims with minimal graphics, but even when I set "options / visual effects" to the maximum, I still don't get animations.

I don't think this is a PC issue: quad-core... lots of RAM... 512 graphics card with up-to-date drivers. The game runs smoothly, apart from this irritating problem.
I have S3 / LN / WA / Amb / stuff-packs - all fully patched (with loads of CC)

I REALLY hope this isn't a CC conflict, (Dashboard says it's not), as I don't want to uninstall all my CC, and put them back one at a time.

Help please.

ps. I don't know if this matters, but if I use the "digital fishy display wall thing" I don't see the fish.

pps. I just tried a FE on top of a "Flexy Invisible Table" from TSR. The table appears ingame, but the FE effect is still missing.

*hoping that this is user error*

Xymox

Volvenom 9th Sep 2011 11:07 PM

I have seen something similar lately. I downloaded the latest patch. I got the message about some illegal file, but I see some things ingame still looking new. Like the emitters not quite working as they should. I have been on holiday, and hope I only did something wrong. Like placing them at the wrong place.

simsample 9th Sep 2011 11:20 PM

xymox, it could be that you have an outdated no mosaic or no effect mod. What you could do is to run through the game problem guide, as this will help you to determine if that is the case.

It's for teens, not children. You can choose one of three options to have them dream about. Whether it's a nightmare or a good dream is up to them.

harlequinzombie 10th Sep 2011 6:29 AM

You can make children dream, but they dream about being one of the characters they can dress up as using the costume chest. Teenagers dream about skipping school, getting valedictorian, being named prom queen/king, things like that. For both children and teens, you click on the bed that the sim is sleeping in and an option should pop up to "Dream About..." or something similar. Click on that, and it takes you to a menu of what you want them to dream about. Then the game just kind of takes things into its own hands and decides whether it was a good dream or a nightmare.
