If you have the lifespan in your game set to Normal, than after they hit 90 days, each day your Sim has a 14% chance of dieing (10.5% if they've completed the Marathon Runner challenge.)

TheLB 30th Dec 2011 2:52 AM

I've seen a couple falcons and other huge and cool-looking birds around the town, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to take them home. My sim doesn't have any command other than "watch" and my cat has the hunting skill, but can also only "watch" it.

Do I need a certain level of hunting skill, or can I just not get large birds?

It's up for debate. One of the theories is that you get better the more animals you catch, but some birds (the specific instance, not all falcons/all crows/etc) just don't seem to work no matter how well you do. Eventually it'll despawn and another one will take its place. It might take a while but eventually you'll wind up being able to catch a falcon. Try catching other birds in the meantime in case that hidden level theory is true.

TheLB 30th Dec 2011 10:26 PM

Here's another shot in the dark. Is it possible to adopt deer and raccoons?

There is a hidden wildlife skill. My sims who reached level 6 (the highest) could befriend falcons and whatnot. So the more time you put into watching and trying to befriend, the better your chances will be of catching one. Your befriending wild horses, deer, and racoons also boosts your hidden wildlife skill.

dreforall 30th Dec 2011 11:21 PM

Not without mods. Someone already made an adoptable racoon mod I think. (About adopting racoons and deer, derp. Sorry, distracted.)

Nope. Even my sims with maxed out wildlife skills could never adopt one. There might be some mod that will let you add them to your family, but I haven't found one yet. I do use most of Twallan's mods, but haven't found an option to let me grab one, although there may be some obscure way to do it that I haven't figured out yet (or, a perfectly obvious option that I'm just too stupid to figure out how to use).

In my experience, there's a random factor to being able to catch certain birds. My Sim caught a falcon. After that, some falcons she encountered would be catchable, but others would only have the watch option. It was the same with several species of birds, mostly large ones but even a few small ones.

Zokugai 31st Dec 2011 12:05 AM

There's a dog uploaded to MTS that uses the raccoon's appearance. And a dog that's supposed to be a fox, and so on and so forth. They'll still meow/bark/whatever, but it's a possibility. For deer though I'd say you're out of luck for now. I'm sure it's possible to make an "add to family" sort of cheat/mod for them, but I don't even want to think about the bugs that might leave you open to. I still have nightmares about adding a ninja to the family in Sims 2.

Use the cheat "unlockoutfits on", go to plan outfit, and they should be in the accessories section I believe.

Probably... try asking in the Meshing forum, under Create

I believe that again, that would involve editing the mesh. I'd try the CAS Parts forum.

Sim genetics is a myth to me. I often do the plastic surgery by switching the whole body of an existing sim to a premade sim in CAS library. Does the genetic reset at that time or their children still inherit their old body features?

Menaceman44 5th Jan 2012 2:39 PM

As far as I am aware, Sim genetics are a lot more basic in The Sims 3 than they were in The Sims 2. From what I gather, in The Sims 3, Sims pass along "genetics" of what they look like at the time the child is born.
So if a Sim originally is created with black hair and you later change it to blond before a child is born, the child will be blond.

noxnoxnox 6th Jan 2012 2:31 AM

That makes sense to me, thank you.

Were those ant hills always there? Are they a visible manifestation of a spawner or just a bad place to lay down a picnic?

If they're what I think you mean, they aren't anthills, they're digspots. Dogs with the hunting skill can dig at one of those spots (or in open ground) and find an item. That's the game's hint to you that there's a gem or whatever buried there. If you teach a dog the hunting skill and then tell him to "Dig Here" or whatever the command is, he'll find whatever it is buried there.

They're a lot like the digspots in vacation worlds, if you have WA.

mangaroo 8th Jan 2012 5:23 PM

Thanks, Zokugai! I've been avoiding adopting pets, and since my Sims didn't have any interactions with the spot, I assumed it was decorative or a sign of a forthcoming ant invasion (which would be totally cool). Darn, now my Sim is going to have to get a dog just so I can see it in action.

Zokugai 8th Jan 2012 5:27 PM

Cats can learn the skill too. Cats catch small animals like lizards or birds (and they can fish), dogs catch objects like gems and spacerocks.

To start it out, cats can teach themselves using one of the toys from the pet toy box, but dogs you'll have to teach it to, like teaching them a trick. Later on you'll be able to have your sim tell them to find a particular type of object, or you can click on the dog and choose "find ___" or tell him to dig at a specific spot.

After playing another family for a bit, I returned to my first house to find that Logan's twin moved out! The problem? I can't find her! I no longer even see her in Logan's contacts. I checked the family tree to see if her sister's icon had greyed out but it hasn't (even though it was taking a few moments for the icon to even appear). What happened to Morgan? Has she died? Disappeared?

In addition, how do you locate sims who have moved out while you were playing another household?

Edit: Okay, so I saw that one family moved in with another. Perhaps this happened to Morgan?

You can walk them up to mirrors and dressers just like any other Sims! Or Edit in CAS by turning on testingcheatsenabled, then shift+clicking on the Toddler and selecting "Edit In CAS"

My sim's dog just died, and I can't find his gravestone anywhere. It's not on the lot or in the family inventory. I think that the dog was on a community lot when he died. Any idea where his gravestone might be, if he even has one?

testingcheatsenabled true then shift+click the sim, I think that is the common way.
I have Master Controller, it's always possible for me to shift+click the sim and edit maternity outfit.

Just to clarify :

EA Standard does not allow pregnant sims in CAS.

You are only able to do such because you are running [MasterController].

Can you uninstall an expansion pack, and still buy the new ones that come out....without it affecting the game?

For example, Pets has given me nothing but trouble and constant game crashes that I can't seem to fix no matter how hard I try (even after fixing all of my custom content). So, if I just uninstall it, is it still possible to install Showtime when it comes out...without Pets?

Yes. You can mix and match the installed Packs however you see fit.

Note though, you may have trouble loading a save-game that was run while the [Pets] pack was installed.

However you should be able to start a fresh game with no issues.

Probably a daft question but then that's why I'm posting it here.
Can you have multiple cash registers, of different types, on the same lot and still have them all function? I'm considering combining my Pet Store and Consignment Shop into one lot if I need the extra space in the future, but only if both registers will carry on working. I plan to leave the lot designated as a consignment store.

When a Sim dies on a lot where you are playing, you have the option of keeping their urn/tombstone at the lot or moving it to another lot. You can access that option anytime by clicking on the tombstone/urn. The only other choice with regards the dead, that I know of, involved the resurrect-o-nomitron , the career reward item for the paranormal career, where those who were close to a Sim and remember him have the option of resurrecting him.

I've yet to have a playable sim die in the Sims 3, but isn't that for the Sims 2?

Can a pregnant Young adult not age up to Adult? My sim has had 0 days left until age up, for several days now. I can't age her up with the cake, or with the MasterController's "Trigger Age Transition" thingy (nothing happens). Is it because she's pregnant, or has something glitched?

If you were to move a rabbit hole like the police station to a new empty lot without bulldozing it in edit town, would the sims in the town keep their job at said police station?

Menaceman44 6th Feb 2012 6:32 PM

I'm not sure but an option you could use to be on the safe side would be to add the new police station BEFORE you remove the old one. That way when you remove the first one the game will still have a police station available so shouldn't attempt to remove Sims from that career.
Bear in mind this is all speculation on my part.

simsample 6th Feb 2012 7:32 PM

Hmm, I would definitely backup before doing that anyway, as I remember trying this with a bookstore and it didn't work as planned. I had to reassign the work buildings if I remember correctly.

I have a question about taking pictures-- How would you take different pictures at precisely the same angle as before?

Here's kind of what I'm talking about:
http://i.imgur.com/RCQV4.gif

^ For example, I would take a picture of a sim once. Then I want to go edit her in create-a-sim. When I leave the CAS screen and go back to game mode, how would I be able to take the picture again at precisely the same angle as before? Same thing with furniture and create-a-style.

I'm not sure if that made sense @__@

Easy: pause the game, set your camera at the desired angle and move the annoying furniture out of the way. Take your pic and use Master Controller's Stylist option on your sim, you'll be able to change hair or outfits as you want and take all the pics you want without having to move your cam! There's also a code for AM that does the same thing (can't recall what it is). in MC it's Sim/basic/stylist and Sim/Intermediary/Outfit IIRC.
(whatever you do avoid using editsim, use the stylist option instead. It's safer.)

You can save exact angles in camera mode (tab) by pressing Ctrl + any number 5-9. When you want to go back to that angle, you just press that number.

So for example, when in camera-man mode, if I take a picture of the upstairs toilet and want to save the angle for future use, I would press Ctrl + 5. Then I can go off and take pictures of the downstairs toilet, but when I want to go back I would just press 5 and voila, back at the upstairs toilet

This method also works when you're not in camera man mode. I've used it for taking neighbourhood shots from map view before.

Use [MasterController Cheats] to remove the "Occult" type from existing sims. Mod available via the link in my signature.

Then use a EA Story Progression tuning mod from Shimrod101 to stop them from reappearing : http://www.modthesims.info/d/424796

When switching between families my Sims will not go to work if I'm not playing them. They then wind up missing it and losing job performance. How can I rectify this? They should go to work even if I'm not playing them, shouldn't they? That's really stupid.

I checked out the tuning mod as you suggested and it seems ok, but shimrod101 states that "if you are using Twallan's SP or MC you do not want this". Well, I do use SP and MC, and most of your other mods (which are great, by the way). He doesn't state that it will conflict with your mods, just says that I don't want it. Is this something that was added sinse the last time you viewed it?

I've since noticed it's not a consistent issue; sometimes they go to work and sometimes I switch to them and they're hanging at home when they should have gone. I'm using Awesome Story. Through AwesomeMod's config I have it set so unplayed Sims gain work performance, but I wonder if that means they can also lose it. Perhaps I need only disable that option. Maybe I'll try that and see what happens. I'd prefer the unplayed go to work, but if they insist on staying home I'd at least like their job performance meter not to take a hit, since it wasn't my choice to give them a vacation day.

No, I never had any looser sim react like that. Loser sims tend to keep loosing games of chess, videogames, etc. That's it. Also they're immortal and can only die of old age! But AFAIK only the over-emotional sims stupidly laugh or cry alone like almost all the time. Neurotic sims and evil sims sometimes laugh or giggle on their own too. Neurotic/crazy sims can scream on their own, pretty scary. My last teen has the emo trait and it can be scary or funny, it all depends of his mood.

You didn't miss out on anything. The limited edition came with a code that allowed you to download a pet store with some additional items. Trust me, you can live without them.

Besides, if you know where to look you can get your hands on pretty much anything you want. *wink*

Menaceman44 11th Feb 2012 12:55 PM

The limited edition included a new cash register to buy pet related items from, a prebuilt lot, and about 6 objects which are just variations on items already in the regular version. Like a cat scratching post themed as a palm tree instead of a plain cat scratching post.

There is a Sim in my 'hood the game thinks is a Simbot. He isn't mechanical - he looks like a Sim - but had the Simbot trait and all his motives are Simbot motives, like "Charge" and "Human Interaction", etc. Is there a way to quickly make him into a Sim again?

I'm probably barking up a lost cause here but is there any way to add an address to a lot once a game has already been started? I'm expecting there to be no way in-game and wondered if there were any community tools to do it with. Or even a method involving s3pe/CAW/etc.
I've been creating my own world and am almost ready to start playing it and have only just noticed that I have created a lot with no address. Little details like this irk me no end and I have done far too much editing in-game to simply go back into CAW and fix it.
Any of you guys or gals got any info?

Does anyone know if NPCs like mailmen and pizza delivery people bring 20,000 simoleans when they move in in an unmodded game? I have quite a lot of mods (including Twallan's Mover mod which may or may not affect stuff like that) and I need to know if it's normal for them to bring that much money as I'm playing a challenge and don't want to cheat by mistake! :-)

I've never had a service npc (mail, pizza, maid, etc) bring more than a couple thousand. It's possible to change this, I am sure, (with one of Twallan's mods or AM) but I have no idea. I just just assume it's not going to be much, because in my game, it never is.

See if using Twallan's Master Controller and the cheats module and editing their traits (under Sim -> Advanced -> Traits -> Change) will work -- you may also need to change occult settings (under Sim -> Intermediate -> Occult) to see if they're flagged as a simbot.

If his motives are simbot motives then he is a hybrid of a simbot and a sim. I only mention this because it's a perfectly possible outcome in the game and not a bug or anything.

Is the game really that stupid that parents need to call a baby sitter if they both want to be in the yard at the same time?

I have a family with a mom, dad, child son and toddler daughter. The dad was in the side yard meditating, and the mom was in the living room. Since she had a wish to kiss the dad, I directed her to go to the side yard to kiss him. As soon as she is out the front door, I get the pop up that the toddler daughter can't be left by herself and she needs a baby sitter. Seriously?

Menaceman44 16th Feb 2012 7:45 PM

How is the mother trying to route to the father? Does she attempt to walk outside the perimeter of the lot at all? If she does, then that is why the game is attempting to call a babysitter. If she stays inside the lot boundary at all times though, then I don't know.

Orilon 16th Feb 2012 8:24 PM

I don't know how she was trying to route. As soon as I got the pop up, I chose "stay here" and she went back inside the house. I then had the dad go inside and kiss her.

So I take it it may have been a routing issue?

Oh. Maybe that's what happened then. But how?

Did you ever have a sim bot in that save? If you let it out in the great big world on its own, then it might have hit off with a sim girlie. If you dind't ever have a sim bot in that save, I'm not sure really.

I noticed today that Judy Bunch has wrinkles. She's close to aging up to an elder. Do adult sims develop wrinkles as they age?

Menaceman44 19th Feb 2012 12:42 AM

I don't think they can develop wrinkles but it is an option in CAS when creating and Adult to add age details.

Wow, really? Where are those options? What category? o:

CiscoB 19th Feb 2012 2:23 AM

Topical details, I think?

Same place as freckles and moles. They only show for full adults and elders though.

Yeah, in Sims2 :/ Never in TS3.

Which begs the question why they still included sheets of paper on the table.

Where in the game, which hood, is there a rock with the rock carving of some proto-sims with spears looking up at a pig flying past? Anyone seen it?

Menaceman44 19th Feb 2012 11:03 PM

I think it's part of Riverview. The same rock that has the aliens on it.

Why would a teen that doesn't have the the mean spirited or evil traits want to be mean to her mom?

She's at the highest positive relationship with her mom, but she still had a wish to be mean to her mom. Huh?

Menaceman44 20th Feb 2012 1:16 PM

Teen mood swings. They came with Generations and make it so that teens will sometimes get out of character or rebelious wishes.

Orilon 20th Feb 2012 4:54 PM

Even if you don't have Generations? I only have the Base Game, World Adventures and Ambitions, but I do have the base game patched to 1.29. I occasionally see a message that the teen is having a mood swing, but usually they don't to anything different. I didn't see that message before she got that wish.

I was seeing mood swings and rebellious wishes in my teens before I got Generations in Dec 2011 so it might have come with the patch?

Fluffy Puff 20th Feb 2012 6:05 PM

I'm fairly certain it came with the patch. I occasionally get the same messages in my game.

Okay, I have a pretty stupid question, but how do you see the ceiling of a house when you are on the first floor? Here is what I mean:

Whenever I try to take screenshots of a house similar to this, I have to be on the first floor due to the camera always panning up to the second floor. When I am on the first floor, the ceiling and the walls on the second floor cannot be seen. Is there a way for this to not happen? The panning is incredibly annoying for when I'm trying to take screenshots of a house or even recoloring the ceiling tile.

MiniMimi 21st Feb 2012 9:58 AM

What about the TAB key when you're on the first floor? You loose your tool panel but at least the camera won't pan on its own.

birdyfly 21st Feb 2012 4:20 PM

I tried that unfortunately. It still pans to the second floor.

(Sorry, I forgot to credit Curtis for the screenshot. His video on making it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFLL5XMs2QA, also, I wasn't the one that hit disagree MiniMimi. )

Menaceman44 21st Feb 2012 4:20 PM

To get a shot like that you need to be on the second floor so that the second story walls and ceilings show and then use the TAB key to enter cameraman-mode, as MiniMimi said, and you can reposition the camera on the first floor with W,A,S,D to get a shot like that.
