Can I ask a few questions here, if so these are what I want to ask.

Is there any good place I can talk about my favorite family?
Is there any way to take a picture of a whole family without them going off on their own and actually facing the camera and all be in the picture?
What happens if you use Story Progression? Because I have Sim I want to move out of his parents' home and I don't want anything bad happening to his parents or siblings.
Also what is "snubbing"? Something like that appeared in the interactions between my teen Sim and another Sim.

3rd Question Do you mean a mod or normal? If normal there is a description when you roll over it in game (Higher it is the more your Sims will do on their own like get married move out, etc. )

Ok thanks. I'll try to see how well the pose mod works. EDIT: But can I use the mod to have a family pose all together instead of individually?

Yeah I meant normal. Ok so if I inable it, they won't have any more kids or die or anything else I don't want happening? But will other sims in the town still go to buildings so the Sim I want to move can still meet another?

Story progression and autonomy are two different things. Story progression is the way that EA simulates the town so that things actually happen to inactive sims. The problem is, EA's story progression is completely random, and pretty much sucks. If you want inactive sims to still have babies and whatever, but one family to be unaffected, you can use the God's Chosen People feature in AwesomeMod, which will flag a family so that they will not be candidates for story actions. They'll still age, though, unless you use the TS2-style aging feature also found in AwesomeMod. Or you can turn story progression off entirely, but your town will eventually die off if you do this. As for your second question, that's related to autonomy. Sims will still visit community lots without story progression on.

VampireCrowley, for your first question, there are lots of communities full of simmers wanting to share what goes on their games I'm a member of like every sims-related group on livejournal.com, and there are tons of us just blogging about our games and posting legacies/stories. I know there are lots and lots of other communities out there in the vast expanse of the internetz as well. Its just a matter of finding one (or several) that you're most comfortable in If you're already on a blogging/networking site, you might start with a search there. Of course there are also many other forum sites like MTS!
Have you tried a Google search for "Sims 3 player communities" or "Sims 3 Forums" or something like that?

Also, about the "snubbing", the dictionary definition is "to treat with disdain or contempt, especially by ignoring." As far as I can tell, its when your sim just decides to ignore someone. I think it only shows up for teens, right? It makes sense that it'd be related to the whole rebellious/mood swings type theme in Gens.

Do NOT use the snubbing option, it causes a stupid chain reaction (other friends teens will all end up snubbing your teen, It's just a matter of time!) and your teen will end up all alone with zero friends. x.X
The feature is pretty broken, you're supposed to be able to snub someone then be able to apologize/stop snubbing but the apologize never work. You have to select/play the other teen to actually "unsnub" your first teen, which is a pain if the snub chain reaction already happened and a dozen teens are all already snubbing your teen!

Other teen will never autonomously snub your teen if you never do it. When you do it and they snub you you'll have a notification of it, like "so and so started snubbing your teen". The chain reaction is caused by the friends of the sim you are snubbing that will autonomously snub you, one every couple of hours.
All snubbing automatically stops when all the involved teens become YA, however the relationships will be extremely low, down to almost enemies.*facepalm*

In fact the only usefulness of it is for evil sims who love making enemies. What is baffling though is that ALL the teens will have wants to snub so and so - whatever their traits are - which is totally stupid. Not everyone is a biatch.

A stupid question, but I'm wondering if .sims3pack files can install properly if I extract them to .package files instead of installing them through the launcher. I really hate the loading time they need to install the stuffs...

I usually depends on what is in the .sims3pack.
And as a side note, the more package files you have, the longer it takes for the game to load.

And thanks for the info about snubbing, I actually click start snubbing so that might be why the other didn't want anything to do with my teen anymore. But he is a young adult now so it doesnt matter anymore.

Packages have to be "merged" to not slow the game.

You can combine the packages yourself using s3pe:

Does anybody here use Any Game Starter? I have a question:
Sorry if this was asked before. I always install my games in dutch and all my back-up saves are from the dutch installs. I'll be installing TS3 on my lappy and I'd like to d o so in English this time.

Will my old dutch back-up saves work if I use AGS? And how would I go about having them work? Should I change the language to dutch first and them move my save files?

I guess the easiest way would be to install the games in dutch and just use AGS to translate everything to English but I much prefer to have them installed in English and translate to dutch if needed.

Do Imaginary Friends grow up with your sim through every life stage, or do they eventually get too old/"expire"? ;P Also, what happens when your sim dies? Does the IF die too?

This is, of course, for IFs who are still in doll form and haven't been made "real".

This is true and it is good advice, but note that you aren't going to see slowdown issues until you get a couple of hundred package files. So whether you need to merge for performance reasons depends on how much CC you have. (The slowdown is related to the number of file handles provided by the operating system.)

Sims3Packs are automatically merged by the installer, which is why they don't run into this issue.

I have to say though that I like Granthes's CC Magic regardless of the performance issue, since it has a lot of mod management functions that make keeping track of what you've got much easier. It will also handle sims3packs as well as packages without your having to manually convert anything.

With the punishment system added by generations, who is and is not able to punish teens and kids? The wiki seems to indicate its parents, but I think I've heard of adult siblings doing it. Is it any young adult or older in the active household?

Doing a scene for a story, I moved an unrelated YA Sim into a house where there happened to be a teen who was doing poorly in school. I left the unrelated YA alone for a second and he immediately started scolding the teen who he'd never even met before for her bad grades. So, yeah, any YA or older in the house can punish the kids.

Edit their saddle, then on the coat tab there's a "unicorn" options page. You can opt out of the goatee from there.

I think they can only "Sell" an album. They either have to hear you or you need to talk to them for the option to come up under Singer. I was able to sell albums after performing for tips.

I've seen a mime do that, so I think it refers to that.

I've built a dive bar, a fusion bar, and the upmarket bar in Starlight Shores, but there is no option for my sim to register as self employed in the band career at City Hall. The painter option is there, but not a band. Am i doing something wrong? I've checked all the lots, and they all work as they should, but I'm just not getting the band option. Are there certain types of bar you need in order for this to be possible?

You have to have relationships with people first, before you can sell them albums.

Why are the instruments of a custom venue being stolen?

I put a stage and all four instruments in the lot so bands can play gigs, but every now and then a guitar or the drums vanish! I've actually found the drumming set inside one of my regular playable sims' inventory! I don't know if she paid for it out of the family funds or... well, you know, kleptoed it?

Is there any way to lock the items of a community lot? Why doesn't this happen in ready-made venues?

Sounds like a glitch, as it doesn't generally happen. I've had it happen once on an unpatched LN game, but nothing else. Instruments would be hard to "klepto" because there are always people around.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it happened because it was a new lot in an old town?

The Yellow Trumpet Jazz Club has lost two guitars and a set of drums, so I'll keep an eye out for these instrument-stealing Sims!

You can make grilled salmon (from caught salmon), fish and chips, and, if you consider them fish (EA does), frogs legs. Oh, and ambrosia from deathfish. This is assuming you buy and read the recipes (although grilled salmon just comes with some level of cooking skill).

you just need seeds/fruits/veggies of something where you click on it inside your inventory and click on "plant", you can find it at random spots of the world, you fridge or the grocery store

You plant seeds/produce directly. For instance, you can buy grapes, bring them back home, click one them, and plant them.

Ok, is there any way to remove existing celebrities celebrity status? I have Twallans mod and set the number of celebs to 1/2 per neighborhood but there was apparently more than that already existing at the time. Virtually the whole neighborhood are 1/2 star celebs. Anyone know a workaround?

Is it safe to delete families from the main menu or is it a VBT, like it is in Sims 2? My menu's all cluttered cos I wanted to make all different families when I first got the game and I haven't played them since :x

Click on the celebrity, select Nrass/master controller/intermediate/celebrity level and set it to whatever you want. To remove status , just set it to 0.

Those in Main Menu are saved games (that you need to load up to use), those in Edit Town's library are saved families (that you can put into vacant lots). I don't know what problem you got in Sims 2 but in Sims 3, if you don't care about them anymore you can delete them at your will, no harm is done.

Why cant my Sims visit The Market Basket in the new Show Time town? Its marked as "Visitors Allowed." I even tried deleting it and re placing it... O_o

The problem in TS2 iirc was memory(sims memories, not your RAM) corruption. With the memory system, all the sims in the town(even in the bin) were linked together, and when you deleted a sim from the bin everything would start a slow slide down into a flaming pile of corrupted neighborhood. I don't think TS3 has a similar problem, as the memories system is quite different.

But deleting saved games from the main menu is always okay, they're all different files.

I think you'll have to move them out. You can just kick them out, moving them to a random lot and not losing you any money, or you could split up the family and move them elsewhere.

Best Barn Arch
 
I feel really stupid for asking this, but I am having a difficult time and I don't think I should be. Pets Related, I am trying to build a new stable, but I Can Not use the "Best Barn Arch" (double arch). I have a long full 2-story wall with full terrain or floor covering, plenty of space, yet I cannot place the door/arch. The "Big Barn Arch" (single arch) works fine, I can place that no problem, but the "Best" never works unless I use moveObjects cheat, and I prefer to build w/o using that cheat. If anyone has come across this problem & found a solution, please help! Thanks

It is true that if you place lot from in-game lot editor make the world lag or unplayable?

Wow. If it's true, I'd really like to know more about it as I pretty regularly place new lots and haven't noticed any lagging issues (other than the usual). Is this just a sim suburban legend, or something I need to worry about?

It needs a LOT of space on either side of the door to work. It can't overlap anything at all, not even the invisible footprint the stalls need in front of *their* doors. You know how when you place a barn stall there's the space it needs for the stall and then almost as large a space in front of it? I suspect that's what you're covering.

Honestly the only way to build a normal-looking barn without leaving just insanely large gaps of space everywhere is moveobjects. Otherwise you have to leave a big space in between the door and where the stalls start...which is okay, if you decorate it up as a tack room or trophy room or something.

No, not true. Any world and save game I've ever played "plays" the exact same way after placing new lots.

eta: Also, is it possible to trigger a pop-up with options that lead to different outcomes? I know that's probably asking for a lot, but if it is possible, that'd be awesome! What I mean is - say you come to a locked door and read the inscription plaque next to it, and a prompt comes up with something like "What's the password?" with a couple of options, and only choosing the right one would unlock the door.

Then I'd recommend just using Moveobjects. Leave your horses enough space to get to their stalls (I usually make the aisle down the center of the barn the same width as a stall), but you should be fine using moveobjects. And it's not like Sims 3 penalizes you for using cheatcodes.

Good! I noticed w/ Sims 2 that sometimes objects/paths would not work correctly because an item was placed w/ MoveObjects cheat, so I just try to use it as little as possible, but whatever to finish the job. Thanks

You can save them to your bin, then make a new save game, then move them from the bin to a lot. However, you will lose some stuff (namely family trees and the like) in the process unless you use Twallan's Mover.

Go to Edit Town and click on your Sim's home. There should be an option to save them to the family bin. Do that and then it should ask if you want to take their home with them or just take the Sims. A copy will then be saved in the family bin.
Load up the world you want them to live in and place the copy from the family bin. They should keep any skills they have learnt as well as any objects in their personal inventories. Relationships outside of the family will be reset as those Sims will no longer exist.
If you have any LTR items in the home then I would suggest saving them to the family inventory before you copy them to the family bin.

Lunar Lakes need EPs?
 
I have just the base game and Ambitions installed, base game updated to 1.33.2.025001, and I had just updated, so Ambitions shows updated to 4.0.87.015001. Game updates in the launcher shows that the game is up to date. Yet when I tried to install Lunar Lakes, it doesn't install, says I need to update. Does this world need EP's? I thought it was base game compatible.

Saved games not accessable after system restore
 
This problem is a couple of months old, but since I was here, thought I'd ask. Have a new windows 7 beast, but was having issues with my icons disappearing. Before I realized the issue was dual screens (analog and digital on the same monitor) I did system restore to get my icons back. The games that had been saved are still there, but says,"cannot load" because it may have been saved with another ep on the system. ...not... Seems like an update was undone during the restore, but it's been full updated since, and still they are not accessible.
Any tricks to get them back? Re-directing me somewhere is fine, I haven't found anything through searches.

This is a dumb question and it has nothing to do with the game, actually. It's about grammar.

Anyway, on the sims forums I keep seeing people type "EA are ___".
Shouldn't it be "EA is ____" ?

It's bugging the hell out me. I always think of a corporation as a single entity.

Sim related question: does anyone know which fog effects were used in this picture?

Am I going mad or did the wall speaker from Late Night used to have three colour presets and be able to move up and down walls?
Since I've installed and fully patched Showtime the wall speaker only has one colour preset and cannot be moved up and down walls.
Did it also used to be in the audio catalogue sort as I can now only find it in buydebug.

It did have 3 color presets and was shiftable. I haven't placed one since SHT, so I can't say what it's doing now in my game.
I don't think it was ever in the audio catalogue, but it's in the community lot objects section.

Okay, so I'm going to ask my last couple of Q's again I understand if the tomb building one isn't really common knowledge, but I feel like someone's got to know the IF one(s).

Do Imaginary Friends grow up with your sims through every lifestage, or do they stop aging or disappear at a certain stage (it seems an odd idea for an elder to still have their IF hanging around)? Also is there any mod or way to make IFs visible at all times, instead of only when their sim is the active sim?

Then there's this problem I've been having while building an underground lair under the 'vampire lounge' ;P I've been trying to place a spiral staircase, but don't get the option to "hide" them (to be unhidden by activating a switch or something) like I get with the regular, ugly, space-consuming staircases. Is this always the case or am I doing something wrong??

When Showtime and the achievement system was launched, didn't EA say that they would release new achievements each week as well as EP specific ones?
Have they actually done this yet? In my game I only have 100 achievements to obtain; 50 Showtime and 50 base game.

Someone please tell me how to get rid of the flaming pets that have suddenly emigrated into my town since I installed SHT and patch 1.33? All of a sudden every flaming household in town is adopting all these cats and dogs that have appeared out of nowhere. I have Awesome, MC and SP installed.

Try adding Twallan's Register. It has an option to set the maximum number of each type of pet for your town. It's great for keeping the population under control.

I had this happen also. Stacks of gourmet pet food stuck in inventory. Only option on pet bowl was "command to guard". I deleted the pet food bowl in buy mode and bought a new one. I was then able to fill bowl like normal. Still don't know what caused it, just glad I found a solution.

You know the gnomes that came with Pets to attract or repel strays and wildlife? When you set them to keep animals away, is the love heart supposed to change to a cross? I swear I saw screenshots of this somewhere but whenever I tell the gnomes to keep animals away their pose changes but the board image doesn't.

Oldest I've had was when my teen grew up with an IF out, and yes he grew up too. I would imagine that they just keep growing, no idea what happens in an elder has one out when he dies.

How do you 'quit' a stable gig in Showtime? Say, if you got a stable gig at the coffeehouse when you were level 4 and are now level 9 and not really interested in it.
On that matter, is there something you have to do to make said stable gigs actually happen after the original gig that turned into a stable one?

Have your performer go up to the proprietor and click on their perform interaction, such as Singer..., you'll have the choice to cancel the steady gig.

Are helipads needed on community lots? I know you have to have one at the Sims home lot, but I was wondering if they should travel to a community lot if a helipad was needed there as well? I notice that when a sims is returning home home from work in a helicopter or while on vacation tour helipad is not needed for landing.. Thanks in advance for assistance.

Er, there are no helicopters that I know of in sims 3..

You mean the time of day? It seems like they always grow up at different times for me. That could be issues with glitches/mods, though, because sometimes they que a birthday but keep dropping it, or freeze for a long time. I'm pretty sure its always been in the afternoon, though, around 6pm or after..

Once I had a sim who was supposed to age up on her last day of pregnancy, so I was expecting it to happen soon after the trip to the hospital... but she didn't age up until almost 3 days later o_o

I'm pretty sure it's determined by what time they were born (so if a sim was born at 2 PM, they'll have their birthday at 2 PM), with pre-created sims growing up at midnight.
