NutsAndDolts 2nd Nov 2012 2:10 AM

My sims have vanished (or rather, gone into the ground) with no rhyme or reason since Supernatural. I just use MC to change their clothes, so they reappear, and try not to get too fussed.

What's sad is that I don't even know if it's happened to a sim around town unless I see their thought bubbles in the ground, or my sim tries to interact with someone who "isn't there".

ShakespearesSunshyne 2nd Nov 2012 2:14 AM

Debug Enabler is what I use when my sims go underground. However, I also have whatever mod it is of Twallans that has the map tag system to get my sims above ground again. You'd have to click on his map tag, NRaas<Debug Enabler<Move<up. Then it's NRaas<Debug Enabler<Options<Fix Invisible Sim. God Bless Twallan and his Mods. I've had a lot of sims go underground and invisible lately too.

misslaheela 2nd Nov 2012 2:26 AM

Hmm. Okay, I will try Overwatch, MasterController, and perhaps Debug Enabler as well. That way if any of my Sims get deleted, I can try Overwatch to get them back, and I can try to make invisible Sims visible again. This whole thing kind of irks me. Hopefully when Seasons actually comes out, a lot of the bugs and stuff will be laid to rest, as it's finally got the proper game to adhere to.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I love everyone on this thread so much. :D

Hopefully this will stave off my glitch woes for the time being.

That's also what happened with the Fairy in my legacy!

teal_moonshine 2nd Nov 2012 3:32 AM

I wouldn't get your hopes up that they'll actually fix their bugs with Seasons...

Envie42 2nd Nov 2012 5:41 AM

Just a quick note from me, I'm off to bed, but I got my final chapter of Generation ONE completed!!

Ch 1.20 - "Endings and Beginnings"

Nathan ages up and becomes neurotic like his Dad (evil laughter), while Isabel ties up some loose ends with boys and becomes a young adult, ready to ride off into the sunset on her Adventurer roll. Intrigue/mystery is introduced with Isabel's new career. Generation 2 first chapter to follow in the coming week!

Ah, now I can go catch up on everyone else's legacies! :lovestruc

misslaheela 2nd Nov 2012 6:25 AM

FINALLY. It's here. Ugh. I think I was going through legacy withdrawal symptoms for a while.

Chapter Thirty-Two - I Have No Fear Of Drowning

Chapter title is based on the song "Work" by Jars of Clay, which actually describes Amaranth's situation quite perfectly. You should look it up sometime. *wink wink*

The heir is brought into the family. As well as a surprise...

leriety 2nd Nov 2012 3:27 PM

yesterday when I was laying in bed I came up with a story for my legacy, the only problem is that it will ruin my fullhouse plans as it will move the siblings out... but it will make more sense!

I've read all of your updates, I'm jealous, I hope I can improve my writing

teal_moonshine 2nd Nov 2012 3:32 PM

So my poor sims have been abandoned lately... I bought Dragon Age: Origins on Origin [ha!] for $12.00 [!!] and I got a little distracted... But I have a goal for today to get up to my next generation (it's 12:30am, I have plenty of time). I've gone against who I rolled for my heir for potential genetic diversity, but we all know genetics in sims and this may be an exercise is futility. So be it, I can just breed more "uglies" into it later.

Ingefaer 2nd Nov 2012 4:25 PM

So finally i caught up with CeCe's legacy... Only to find two new legacy chapters - Twists and The Overlords <3 This is an awesome day! :D

So... where to start next ? (;

ReyaD 2nd Nov 2012 4:33 PM

Actually you've got one more of mine to go! Happy Birthday to me! (And early birthday to Misslaheela and Buckley)

6.11 - Evil Step Mother http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...tep-mother.html

Kids say the darnest things...

Ingefaer 2nd Nov 2012 5:14 PM

Eeeh! Yay...

And Happy Birthday to you (and Misslaheela and Buckley tomorrow) ... Have a nice day :D

Buckley 2nd Nov 2012 5:47 PM

Happy birthday, Cece! Hope you have a great day!

I'm opening up my legacy save right now. It's the first time I'm actually getting to play (rather than just taking pictures) in, like, weeks. SO excited!!!

calisims 2nd Nov 2012 6:37 PM

Happy birthday, Cece! And to Colleen and Misslaheela, happy birthday eve.

I know how you feel, Colleen, my legacy, which was supposed to be my fun, less staged and posed game has gotten very staged and posed in the last few chapters during the whole MorcuCorp/Time Travel stuff. I'm really looking forward to getting back to just simple playing again. Ss soon as I get all my edits to Moonlight Falls done and create the families for it, lol.

Buckley 2nd Nov 2012 7:36 PM

I didn't realize you were editing up Moonlight Falls. (...I need to read your legacy. It's next on my list, I swear! =D) Are you building it completely from scratch? If so, I admire your determination, but either way it sounds like a really big project. I've been thinking about bulldozing and remodeling the entire town of Twinbrook, but I keep talking myself out of it. So much work! If you need any help, Melissa, with a building or two, I'd be happy to chip in and create something for you. A club or a fire station or whatever you need. I completely understand, though, if you want to do it all yourself. I'm pretty picky about things like that, too.

ReyaD 2nd Nov 2012 7:56 PM

Or on the flip side if you wanted to share any of your edited lots, Melissa, I'd love to see some. : P I'm so jealous of your building skills.

calisims 2nd Nov 2012 7:58 PM

Yeah, my legacy family made a big move in the middle of Gen 2, partly for story reasons but also because of issues with Storybrook. I just can't live in towns with shell buildings, the townies keep getting stuck in the hidden rooms.
I'm not building completely from scratch, I just annhilated all the residents and I've been reworking or replacing some of the community lots and also fixing up the houses with cribs and things so they are suitable for families. So it's not as much work as building from scratch, but it is time consuming.
Thanks so much for the offer, I'm not hugely picky, but thing I'm finding the most frustrating is they painted the world areas around some lots with asphalt, and outside CAW you can't change that, so I'm having to build in such a way that the lots are aligned to the pre-painted asphalt. If that makes sense. So it's difficult to use lots not built on site.

And I haven't hardly started on the families I need to make to replace the residents, lol.

Edit: Sure, Cece, I can do that. Sooner or later I'll post some pics of what I've done and you can let me know what you want.

ReyaD 2nd Nov 2012 8:06 PM

Be sure to add a LOT of starter homes, Cali. There are a lot of nice "looking" small two bedroom homes but upon further inspection they all cost upwards of 60k simoleons. The other families had a lot of trouble finding places to live before I stepped in.

NutsAndDolts 2nd Nov 2012 8:23 PM

I wish I had more cool community lots for Hidden Springs, but I have no idea what to put in a dead small town.

In my dead small town, there is nothing. xD

Buckley 2nd Nov 2012 8:30 PM

Oh, I understand that completely, about the shell buildings. I love Jericho more than any world I've ever seen, but those buildings drive me CRAZY! There's not a lot of them, thank the lord, but I've set some of the more problematic ones to disallow progression. I also have to be really careful when I do a reset everything, cause Sims always get stuck then as well. *sigh*

Cece, I feel like I should know this, but who is the little girl in your avatar? Is she from your legacy or no? I've been meaning to ask that, but I keep forgetting.

ReyaD 2nd Nov 2012 8:40 PM

Malinda Dawn - Gen 2 help, Sabo Legacy.

Hmm, what about an arcade? A sports bar? A small pub? A rec center? A cafe? A dance hall? A fancy hotel (which could function as an exclusive lounge)? A church/place to get married? A playground? A campground?

...Every town needs a liquor store (nectary) and a strip club.

I'd be happy to build you something, Becky, if you'd like. =D I own Hidden Springs, so I could even build it on the exact lot you wanted. But, again, I understand if you'd rather do it yourself. Just thought I'd offer in case you're interested.

NutsAndDolts 2nd Nov 2012 9:09 PM

I'm actually awful at building things myself. >.>

Sports bar, pub or rec center sounds like a good idea.

I put arcade games in the disco tech, and there's already two playgrounds for the kiddies. Maybe a second dance hall wouldn't be bad. I'm mainly looking for places adults could go to hang out. =D

I'm always looking for an excuse to build stuff... I owe you a PM anyway, so check your inbox soon! =D

Yeah, I used to be terrible at building, but now I really enjoy the challenge. I hate roofing though. SO hard!

NutsAndDolts 2nd Nov 2012 9:43 PM

Yay, PM! ^^

Yeah, I never really figured out roofs. x.x My roofs are always really simple.

I guess I should look at some tutorials someday.

misslaheela 2nd Nov 2012 11:28 PM

STORYPROGRESSION IS FIXED AAAAHDJKSHFJKSHJFKHDSJFHDSKJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I can get back to my legacy with all my mods and resume the fun of it all. If I could share my birthday gummi worms with Twallan, I would.

Time to get to playing. I have a bonus chapter coming too! It'll be slightly off-track from the story, but fun nonetheless. :D

envoy 2nd Nov 2012 11:53 PM

I saw that Twallan had updated! So amazingly fast! Now I can finally update to the new patch. Even if I'm still waiting on a few mods to be updated. But first, I have a new update to share. I'm still getting the hang of chapter length so this one is back to being short. Oh well...

http://snowrandomlegacy.blogspot.co...-time-with.html

teal_moonshine 3rd Nov 2012 12:31 AM

I'm about to set up Sunlit Tides for an eventual legacy move. Hard making the lots look super islandery when EA didn't include the "palm frond" looking roof they used on all the other lots... C'est la vie.

hjaxon1701 3rd Nov 2012 2:12 AM

Well, there goes my excuse for not patching, ha. I'll be patching and mod-updating tonight, then.

Happy Birthday to Cece, Buckley, and MissLaheela! I hope all three of you enjoy your special day!

Tamlyn 3rd Nov 2012 2:48 AM

Happy Birthday, everyone! You'll be complaining about being old soon

I've been wanting to play Sims and make stories and everything lately.... but I have way too much stuff to do :S I need 48 hour days, really.

I was looking through old posts (don't ask me why) and I found this gem (total pun intended) back in September. Now I would just like to say HAHAHAHAHA! I TOLD you you could make something good out of it!

Anyway. End happy dance.

And begin chapter update.
Chapter Thirty-Three - The World Gets A Little Bit Older
This chapter has almost exactly 50 pics. You should be thankful, because I originally had 80. I never think I've captured that many (I always think, "Alright, that should hopefully be enough"), then I go to my screenshots and find an absurd amount.

Anyway. A teaser for this chapter. Amaranth punches Zack in the face. Now you may read.

PSDuckie 3rd Nov 2012 8:20 AM

Which StoryProgression addons do you guys use? I'm thinking of adding StoryProgression to my game (currently I use vanilla EA story progression). I've even come up with a way to work the change into my legacy storyline.

misslaheela 3rd Nov 2012 8:25 AM

Twallan's. Once you use it, you will never, ever, ever want to go back to EA's vanilla story progression. Of all Twallan's mods, his SP is my favorite by far, even more than MasterController.

Make sure you're up to date with the patch (1.42). If you start adding mods, I would strongly suggest adding Twallan's Overwatch as well. A lot of us use MasterController as well. On top of those, I use ErrorTrap, but then that's all.

By the way, Twallan's site is here: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/

On Twallan's site, there are so many packages for each patch level. What I was wondering was which packages. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

By the way, thanks misslaheela for another awesome chapter, and for giving Zack what he deserves! I hope the Realm of Dusk version of Zack turns out not to be such an a*****e.

leriety 3rd Nov 2012 12:42 PM

You need to check your basegame patch level, you can see it in the launcher (hover your mouse on the game icon), but you must be sure that base game plus all EP and SP are at the same level or there might be problems (but I think they stopped updating those so you should be fine).

My game is currently at: 1.39|2.17|3.13|4.10|5.8|6.5|7.3|8.0|10.0|11.0|12.0|15.0
The packs after outdoor living stuff don't have patches I know of, have they released ep patches along with the new one?

teal_moonshine 3rd Nov 2012 1:52 PM

Stupid EA... Include 2 "island windows" but no "island door"...

But I do like the patterns included in the patch

Randomness over.

calisims 3rd Nov 2012 2:47 PM

Hey teal, how's the Dragon Age experience for you? What origin did you pick? LOL, I'm getting the urge now to roll a new Warden and play again.

teal_moonshine 3rd Nov 2012 3:06 PM

I got a little obsessed... Last night my head was all in the zone, while I was trying to sleep. Some very odd dreams I can tell you... I chose Dalish Elf - Rogue... Probably play a mage next time with less of the "OHH that's what I was meant to do" moments.

I must say, The Fade moments were really messing with my head.

calisims 3rd Nov 2012 3:41 PM

Dalish is one of my favorite origins, and it's really ideal for a first playthrough, since the Dalish are outsiders, you can relate to the roleplay as someone unfamiliar to the society. Mage is my other favorite origin, I'm tied between Dalish and that as the ones I roll most. I still haven't played a dwarf origin. I just can't get into being a dwarf.
The Fade is awesome, though once you figure it out, it gets kind of tiresome in subsequent playthroughs. It's why I hate puzzles in rpgs, they are only fun the first time.
Anyway, do feel free to PM me with any questions or anything about DA if you want. And, have fun! It's a great game, one of my all time favorites.

teal_moonshine 3rd Nov 2012 3:46 PM

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever play a dwarf... And I have a stupid amount of questions. Mostly about what directions are ideal/best option things with the storyline. Or what all the options end up at. Etc etc. Google is definitely helpful. Most times anyway.

calisims 3rd Nov 2012 3:51 PM

Well, I've played pretty much every option through, so I can probably answer any question you might have.

teal_moonshine 3rd Nov 2012 3:56 PM

Well next time I'm torn, expect a crazy weird message from me

calisims 3rd Nov 2012 4:17 PM

Cool, I'm into the crazy weirdness.

I've got two playthroughs going at the moment, one of which is a dwarf. I do like the Dalish elves a lot though and really wish there was the opportunity to play a Dalish mage. I'm also trying to decide whether I want to get hold of DA2 or not.

gizmoman49 3rd Nov 2012 6:46 PM

I'm glad I can finally play Sims again safely (Thank you, twallan.) I'd almost finished making my house when I noticed something: my founder looks freakishly similar to Midnight (from The Overlord Legacy). Considering I made her before I even started The Doll House and Midnight is a mix of her parents genes, that is a really weird coincidence.

Yeah, Dalish mage was a popular request at the BioWare forums. So far they haven't made a game where your character can be a Dalish mage, but in Awakening, the EP for Origins, there's a companion character who is a Dalish mage, Velanna, and in DA2, Merrill is a Dalish mage companion & also a romantic option. The same Merrill you meet in the Dalish origin of DA:O, but voiced by Eve Myles in DA2.

DA2 got a lot of bad press, die hard rpgers hate it because it did kind of pare down the rpg elements in favor of a more action oriented game. And the rushed production resulted in the same cave map being reused in every cave in the world. Also, a lot of people were not happy with the way the story diverged from the traditional hero saves the world trope, and that a lot of events that happen are simply out of your character's control. The story is lot grimmer, and a lot of times you win the battle just to lose the war. I liked the story, myself, because I like history and politics, and this game is a lot about the history and politics of the Mage vs. Templar conflict, and they did a great job with the characters, so I could deal with the flaws in the combat system and seeing the same cave over and over again. I think as a story type of person, you might like it, Ali.

What can I say? She's everywhere. Can't wait to see her!
It'll be interesting if she turns out to be a wonderful little angel sweetheart (like the complete opposite of Midnight Overlord).

gizmoman49 3rd Nov 2012 7:24 PM

I don't remember all of her traits, but I'm pretty sure Good is one of them. So that answers your question.

CyyKosis 3rd Nov 2012 8:02 PM

My favorite playthrough is Rogue Dalish Elf! I've never played through as a dwarf either but my boyfriend did once. I really need to do a playthrough as a mage though... maybe after AC3 cause I'm in the middle of that game right now.

calisims 3rd Nov 2012 8:09 PM

We just started AC3 here. And there's and ME3 DLC coming out this month, too. So busy with non-Sims games this month.
Definitely, though, make time for the mage playthrough, it's totally worth it.

What I meant was that that there are so many different Twallan's package files.

Base-Mod, Expanded, Extra, NameList Tuning, etc.

I don't know exactly what each one does, and I can't make heads or tails of Twallan's documentation!

Also, you guys are making me want to play Dragon Age.

<looks for Dragon Age disc>
<doesn't find it>

kadience 3rd Nov 2012 9:54 PM

Hopping on the Dragon Age talk really quick...

Rogue Dalish Elf is my favourite. It was the first one I ever played, and remained my favourite while I tried the others. I'm planning on replying (and hopefully fully completing the game) when I finish Skyrim.

For Sims, I'm stuck between wanting to start in Gwendolyn Valley, or playing in Sunlit Tides. I've been debating the past couple days, and still no closer to an answer.

leriety 3rd Nov 2012 10:54 PM

duckie try the base-mod first, the others just add more options (wich you can see on the list on twallan's site)

teal_moonshine 4th Nov 2012 12:23 AM

Only thing with Sunlit tides is there is obviously no EP lots... And if you're like me, I don't like the idea of all the island lots, then a fire station that's all bricks and non-islandish.

I wish EA would release buildings too so you don't have to make half arsed lots to *barely* fit in with everything else... But no.

DA - one thing I learnt, don't threaten the chantry lady to release Sten... Alistair REALLY does not approve...

Envie42 4th Nov 2012 1:40 AM

Happy birthday all of you celebrating this weekend or the coming week - funny how they're so close together -- kindof like how the sims always manage to have similar birthdays... have a happy sim glitter wiggle dance after you blow out your candles haha!

I've resisted playing Dragon Age so far, so you guys are just tempting me too! I haven't even gone and built a 'house' with Skyrim Hearth and whatever expansion I got as a gift after my other half thought it might lure me away from 4 hour building sessions in the Sims 3 - HAH.

@misslaheela - your LONG chapters have been great - I just got caught up on yours today. I remember how short and brief your first generation was, haha! (I laugh since of course I'm just now moving to gen. 2 for mine) :P

@psduckie - hope you get it sorted out with twallan's mods. Each of the modules has an individual page link which gives a brief description but yeah, some of its a little vague at first. Just use the base SP and add the expanded modules if you like the base one and want more. I personally don't use the expanded 'personalities' pack (the one that gives various leaders, and groups of personality types to your town) as I felt it was a bit too spammy with updates. I keep to the basic SP and enjoy just enough variety that way plus all the ways you can tweak the story progression abilities is more what I wanted. I do use all of the Master Controller addon packs - they're brilliant for easy setup in storytelling scenes for a lot of what I want to do.

I'm working on my first gen. 2 chapter, and Isabel's first adventuring trip as an official explorer - its going great. I warn you however, there's eerie dramatic music queued up towards the end. This isn't going to be the cute white picket fence generation that the 1st one was!

Edit:

Aaand its done. Yay!

Ch. 2.1 - "Intuition and Discovery"

Generation 2 off and running with a bang!

kadience 4th Nov 2012 1:52 AM

I think I may go with Gwendolyn Valley, cause I can't build island looking lots. But with Gwendolyn Valley, all the lots are odd sizes, and most lots that I've downloaded won't fit. But the world is small, and has no lag for me.

Envie - Play it!

I always threaten her to get Sten out... I don't know another way to free him.

ashaw814 4th Nov 2012 4:08 AM

Aw man, bumming me out with all the DA talk. I barely have time to play the Sims. I definitely don't have time for all the the RPGs I wish I was ALSO playing. In other news, the bf is away this weekend so I had ALL DAY to play Sims and I even managed to eke out an update this morning. And now I have so many pictures I don't even know how I'm going to combobulate them all together into a cohesive storyline.

Anyway...here's the new chapter:Chapter 13: A Realm Torn Asunder

If you have Leliana in your party, she'll vouch for you and the chantry lady lets him go in your custody. If you are playing a rogue and have enough lockpicking skill, you can unlock his cage yourself.

I finally got that update I was working on done!

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sunfairy 4th Nov 2012 6:30 AM

I am evidently doomed

So I looked at this and decided to try it. However I am evidently doomed to never successfully get past generation one. My rolls were:
Marital Structure: Single
Number of Children: Two Children
Primary Income: Busker
Generation Goal: Deadbeat Parents
Misc. Fun: Random Traits
However, about 3 sim hours into the challenge I sent my founder, Karen, to the park to play guitar and hopefully meet some sims. Shortly thereafter, for the first time in any of my sims games and hundreds of hours of game play, she got struck by a meteor ...
I decided not to worry about it and created a new founder Lyla, who I moved into a different lot in the same town. She went to the park and picked up the meteor which had killed my initial founder as a keepsake. On her way home Lyla got struck by a SECOND meteor . I feel like the newest patch may of messed up the likelihood of meteors.
That all said this looks like a really fun challenge, however I think I will re-roll generation one and try again. Evidently having a single busker who will have two children with random traits and be a deadbeat parent results in random meteor strikes...

Envie42 4th Nov 2012 7:12 AM

Sunfairy I'm trying not to laugh, but I have to confess - I really laughed. omg.

Btw, you probably have a glitch. I had that happen once also and found one of my NRaas / twallan mods was outdated and somehow still working with the new patch but causing that exact same bizarre hyper meteor event. Because twallan's been updating his mods SO rapidly, do go back and carefully compare all your versions to make sure you're not missing one and still have an outdated one in there. While some of them cause crashing if not updated, others can just cause oddities like you described.

Personally, I'm still waiting. I refuse to patch until twallan's shaken all the bugs out of his mods and the patch. He's awesome but not sim-God as much as we wish he was, there's a lot of work goes into fixing EA's crap.

Hey Duckie, I just started your story, trying to go backwards with your archive, but the side-bar interactive thing is a little tricksy. Might want to think about making it stationary with individual entry links, or maybe a link at the bottom of each chapter leading into the next for the lazies like me. Oh and my eyes are bad (I'm old ya know! ) so maybe make your screenshot uploads a lil' bigger? Hope this is constructive enough as a first glance feedback. I'll comment on the story on the blog itself.

I've changed the layout. To tell the truth, I didn't like the old layout either. As for making the pictures bigger, I'll try to figure out how to do that.

Oh gosh, yes. Back in the days when I thought 9 pictures was plenty for a chapter. 9! And now I'm trying to pare down from 80 pics. Hoo boy.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I had a wonderful day. Sort of went like this.

I got to sleep in until noon. After I got up, I briefly went to see the guy I like, and he gave me gummi worms. Three whole bags! Have I mentioned I'm basically a gummi-worm-aholic?

Then I went to the mall with my best friend Sarah. We didn't even buy anything except Panera for dinner. But we had a lot of fun. People-watching with her is fun. We saw some women wearing crazy pants, and another person was carrying a pet hermit crab they just bought.

Spent the rest of the evening watching movies (Night At The Museum and Pirates of the Caribbean), eating sweets, talking about all sorts of stuff.

And of course I just got done checking my Facebook, MTS, and responding to comments on my blog. It's been an utterly perfect day.

...And here's a pic of me leaping into Gator's arms. Why should Amaranth have all the fun?

You'll regret that, my dear. : )

But in the meantime, I have updates!

For the Sari Random Legacy:

6.12 - Stop and Think http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...-and-think.html

In which Fawn learns some unsettling things and we pay Maven a visit.

And while I know this isn't a legacy or random (okay its a little random), my non-legacy story is off hiatus since my new computer can once again load the save game in a reasonable amount of time!

Project: Orycalcos - Chapter Two http://projectorycalcos.blogspot.ca...hapter-two.html

I suggest reading the prologues if you haven't read them yet. They kind of explain things.

Yay for Cece updates at 5:30 in the morning when the nausea hits! If I'm going to be plagued with an ulcer, there might as well be something good out of it. Take THAT, stomach.

(Yes, every time we show nauseated Sims in our stories, it's always pregnancies. But I promise I'm not pregnant. I've had a stomach ulcer since last semester that likes to torture me with severe heartburn and nausea sometimes. It's been mostly under control, but not this morning...)

By the way. Let it be known that I was not the one who pushed the Disagree button on your post, Cece. Actually I loled. I shall go push that button now...

I suspect I will end up getting it at some point, part of me wants to wait & see if they do an ultimate version with all the additional content included though (I got the ultimate version of Origins & loved the extra stuff)

teal_moonshine 4th Nov 2012 2:35 PM

I considered the ultimate version. But I wasn't sure I'd even like it, plus with the Halloween discount through Origin, I decided why not. I'm sure I'm missing things, but at the same time, I'm not fussed...

I think I've seen in another reply of yours that you record your game and then take screencaps of the video, is this right?
If you take screencaps of the game while you're playing the pictures will be better quality.

Sunfairy 4th Nov 2012 4:14 PM

Thanks Envie, I just updated my game, and associated Nraas mods. I must of missed something. Twallan had me pretty convinced he is indeed a simgod, are you sure he isn't?

AJH 4th Nov 2012 4:32 PM

Quick question, what's the position on inheritance via story progression? One of my sims has just inherited a significant sum from the death of an elderly relative (which I hadn't even realised was possible).

calisims 4th Nov 2012 5:04 PM

We don't really have a policy on that, so it's up for discussion. I have it turned off in my game, not just to keep my Sims from inheriting, but also because I've found that having the townies all inheriting huge sums makes the whole town ridiculously wealthy really quickly.
Personally, I'd be in favor of banning the SP inheritance.

leriety 4th Nov 2012 5:06 PM

I didn't even know there was that option
is it in Twallan's mod or is part of the new patch?

calisims 4th Nov 2012 5:38 PM

It's in Twallan's SP.
I still haven't bothered with the new patch, I've been too busy getting screenshots for my various stories to make time to update all my mods.

Where do I find the option to turn it off? I think for the future I will turn it off, just need to decide whether to get rid of the money I've already inherited...

Envie42 4th Nov 2012 6:12 PM

Ohh I am so glad this topic came up because I had this happen in another non RL save game I was tinkering with aaaand I've seen other townies in my RL Appaloosa Plains receive inheritance sums from elderlies who passed away in town...their belongings and any money they had gets divided up amongst whatever sims they are either related to or knew ...apparently even acquaintances count since the sim I was playing didn't even know the old sim except from one meeting out in town somewhere.

Yes, this is a Twallan SP setting and it can be toggled off. I would have to launch my game and go searching for where its buried in all the SP menus but I do remember seeing a setting for inheritances upon death.

My sim received 34k in simoleons so yes, it can be a fair amount.

I suppose if you really wanted to 'cheat' on your random legacy, you could make friends with all the rich old people in town (kinda like a gold digger sim hehe) and then wait for them to kick the bucket and hopefully reap in some inheritances. But honestly, I think most people are self regulating themselves on money anyways since of course 'motherlode' is just a shift-ctrl-c away if you seriously wanted to cheat. I always figured people played challenges to be challenged. I've cheated my sims rich in the past so many times its not even fun anymore. Playing the game legit and with the random generations is way more fun.

But I suppose its a twallan mod specific issue that should be addressed in the RL rules.

Edit: And I agree with calisims - if everyone in town inherits a sum from rich old people as they die, then eventually the 'inheritance' sums will get larger and larger.

I'll go see if I can find where the setting is to turn it off, unless someone here beats me to it.

leriety 4th Nov 2012 6:23 PM

It's in the base mod? because I've never heard of it

calisims 4th Nov 2012 6:28 PM

It might be in the expanded SP mod, I don't know for sure. And the setting to turn it off is probably under death or money options, I don't remember off the top of my head.

NutsAndDolts 4th Nov 2012 7:13 PM

I'm for banning it, but I don't think it exists in my game, so someone else should be in charge of writing the rule instructing us how to turn the option off.

envoy 4th Nov 2012 7:14 PM

I have just the base mod of story progression and I haven't noticed it. Then again, up until now I haven't played my Sims for multiple generations so it could be I simply never noticed.

I also have an update. This chapter is pretty much Mist's chapter, with a bit of Winter thrown in. Poor Sugar and Crystal got left out...
http://snowrandomlegacy.blogspot.co...ration-111.html

ReyaD 4th Nov 2012 7:15 PM

I'm for banning it too if someone finds it in SP/MC settings. I can't find it anywhere! I'm so tired of family-funding inheritances out.

calisims 4th Nov 2012 7:18 PM

Okay. I'll write the rule and instructions on shutting it off. I'll have to go into game to find the setting, so I might not get to that until tomorrow or so. I'm trying to write a chapter for Summerdream, but I am plagued by distractions today, lol. So I don't think I'll be loading my game up today.

Envie42 4th Nov 2012 8:00 PM

I went and looked it up. To turn off Inheritance:

Nraas --> Story Progression --> General Options --> Options: Deaths --> Inheritances --> Change to (False)

There are also specific inheritance categories such as the "Inheritors" category which is by default set to Children / Relatives / Friends ... so you can actually specify what categories of sims are eligible to inherit from the dead sim. You can also just toggle off Cash, Royalties and specify Ancestral First Choice (for main inheritance) as First born, First Female, First Male, Last Born, or Random.

I'm guessing this came with the expanded SP package if some of you aren't seeing it. I might go look it up over at twallan's wikia site to see which part of SP this option came with.

So obviously, if the rule is decided that inheritances are not allowed (other than from your heir's direct parents / household) then the easiest one to turn off is the Inheritances to False disabling all options. Townies and their relatives / friends will not inherit anything and the money will vanish with the dead sim.

Haha you Schmoozer! Of course I like feeling appreciated too. *pose*

I wasn't planning to launch my game until later today - so now I have a good excuse to play NOW not later. It was entirely selfishly lazy Sunday motivated. I confess.

ReyaD 4th Nov 2012 8:17 PM

I have pics up to Ch 14 (I just posted 12) so I really shouldn't play buuuuut... >: D

gizmoman49 4th Nov 2012 10:19 PM

So has anyone ever considered adding other rules to a legacy (aside from the "random" aspect). For example, I'm playing a Rainbowcy, which is where you associate a color with each generation (in my case, Gen. 1 is black, Gen. 2 is grey, Gen. 3 is white, etc.) and that generations clothes, makeup, hair, and house must be based around that color. It's very fun, very easy, and is a nice little twist to the game. Here are a few other styles of play I've heard of:
-Uglacy: Start out with a relatively attractive Sim & try to make their offspring as ugly as possible by Generation 10
-Prettacy: The exact opposite of an Uglacy: Start out with the most butt-ugly Sim possible & make them as pretty as you can by Generation 10.
-Matriarchy/Patriarchy: Fairly straightforward. Your founder & all your heirs must all be the same gender. If they're all female it's a matriarchy & if they're all male it's a patriarchy.
-Family Trait: Choose one of your founder's traits. All the heirs must have this trait.
-Immortal Legacy: A rather interesting style of play where you must keep your founder alive through all 10 Generations via death flowers, young again potions, ambrosia, etc.
-Celebricy: Your founder must be based off a real life celebrity. You must also name their partners/ children after celebrities they remind you of. If you have Late Night installed, you play with the additional rule that all founders & heirs must become 5-Star celebrities.
-Gagacy: The result of my twisted mind combining the Family Trait/Celebricy rules. Your founder is Lady Gaga. The Family Trait is insane. The 5-Star rule applies. Go from there >:D

So there are mine. If anyone else has alternate rules I would love to hear them.

NutsAndDolts 4th Nov 2012 10:24 PM

Those things are all really common in other challenges, so we have not felt the need to incorporate them as rules into the Random Legacy Challenge.

You could still choose to impose those rules on your own game, though.

misslaheela 4th Nov 2012 10:26 PM

I play an Overlordcy, where each generation must further world domination. Ya ta ta ta taaaa! *tap dances* Bet you didn't see that one coming.

ReyaD 4th Nov 2012 10:30 PM

I had an involuntary twins curse for most of my Sabo Legacy before I had the bright idea of getting rid of the damn radio.

NutsAndDolts 4th Nov 2012 11:00 PM

I had twins for gen 2, 12, 17, and 22. And triplets for gen 7.

So according to the pattern, I get a multiple birth twice each legacy.

The founders always manage to produce twins, and then gen 6 pops out a multiple number.

All in all, I get them a lot less than Cece!

It helps that I can't stand the Kidz music. Cece must have her sound turned off or something.

Envie42 4th Nov 2012 11:31 PM

The only other specialty flavor legacy I've tried was the "randomcy" with totally random looks, traits, clothing, housing, etc. Yeah. That got old at about gen. 3 for me.

ReyaD 4th Nov 2012 11:38 PM

I play with my sound turned off. : )

I've had multiples:
Gen 6 (Aquiles and Pia)
Gen 7 (Ximena and Marina)
Gen 10 had triplets (Angel, Vance and Katrina) <- Intended
Gen 11 (Benny and Freddy)
Gen 12 (Nadira and Nagina) <- SO not wanted. That generation was dirt poor for the longest time...
Gen 13 (Yuki and Sam)
Gen 14 (Raindrop and Tempest) <- Intended
Gen 15 (Jacob and Jessica)
Gen 16 (Mackenzie and Maddie) <- Strongly encouraged the watching of kids TV because I rolled one child)
Gen 17 (Dublin and Madrid)
Gen 18's triplets (Aurora, Aolani and Aviva) <- Was hoping for twins. Missed the mark by just a bit.
Gen 19... (Twins: Lyric and Harmony. Triplets: Dolce, Cadence, Melissma) Melody's generation
Gen 22 (Rio and Pearl, Nile and Kitten. Then Coral and Reed) <- Fertility Reward
Gen 23 (Jade and Daphine)
Gen 24 (Marise and Maven) <- Not intended, but turned out for the best anyway

Right now, I'm playing a mix of a Matriarchy, an Overlordcy, and a Randomcy, with only the traits being randomized.

Won't this method prevent any money whatsoever such as job and opportunities also? I've never tried that before.

Buckley 5th Nov 2012 12:33 AM

I think Skyegal's method would simply disallow story progression enabled money scenarios (like inheritance) for the selected household. So, if you disable the money option for your legacy household, inheritances would still occur in the rest of your town. Jobs and career pay and opportunities shouldn't be affected, but I'm not sure how bills would work with it turned to false. (Like, if you'd still have them or not.)
