yavannatw..your destination can be a pit stop to the real thing
![]() |
@broomhilda61 thank you, glad you like it ^^ it would smell of grilled fish most of the time though. Good job on your play along too! I'm definitely intrigued with the aquarium in the lobby. Hope to see more of your builds in the future =)
@CatherineTCJD you pulled that off with an aching back? What kind of monster would you be when you're feeling fine =)))) |

Some blue drinks today (very helpful for back pain, I hear, Cat - I hope you feel better soon
![]() |
Those blue drinks did the trick, Petro! The back is not but a dull roar today - nothing a bit of ibuprofen can't handle. DD's foot is better today too, though she's still hobbling around and demanding aid: Can you go upstairs and get me a soda? No. Can you bring me the wii-mote? No. Can you go get my blanket? *sigh*
![]() Now I gotta finish up my pet-themed hotel... ![]() |
Round 1 Entry - Tropical Restaurant
9 Attachment(s)
![]() Psst! You... yes, you! Come here! Let me tell ya a lil' secret. There's a new restaurant in town that is opening this week. And guess what? First 50 meals are on the house! You gonna miss this opportunity? The early bird catches the worm, so be sure to check out Garswn Dining this Friday night, ya know what I'm sayin'? If anyone asks, I didn't tell ya nothin', ok? ![]() Garswn Dining is a fine restaurant with a tropical vibe. It features an open dining area and bar, with glass roofs to let the equatorial sun shine in during the day and to see the beauty of a nocturnal sky during the night. You will never run out of oxygen, as our facilities are filled with photosynthetic life forms. Just a fancy way of saying plants. And algae. If you want a more romantic dining experience, feel free to reserve a table on our back deck, above the water and below the stars. Unfortunately, all the water on our lot is pool water (the landscaping artist said something about the water "not reflecting right", whatever that means), nevertheless we believe you will love the ambience here. This is my entry for the first round of this amazing contest. I hope my lot isn't too bad ![]() |
You have to have a block or two of pool hidden somewhere on the lot for the pond water to work right
![]() |
Yes, I know. Even when I do that it doesn't work. *has an idea* Let me test it with boolprop useShaders true
EDIT: Nope. Must be something else. Oh well. |
Yay! Done with my prototype lot! I need to check for missing wallpapers, but I'm Ok with what I see.
Now to do two things: 1. Build another lot and join it to the restaurant. Since this is a strip mall lot, I need to have a store or two next to it; otherwise, it's going to look really strange. A basic facade and some basic OFB thingies inside should do ... the lot isn't going to be as much in focus, and part will be cut off. There just needs to be something next door! 2. Play the restaurant and see if I get stompies. I seem to forget how to count with the CC. It's more than 12. But I DID try. Really! I admire anyone who can easily match Maxis wallpapers, tables, chairs and floors in a larger building. That proved to be one my undoings. I also need to get it out tonight or early in the AM Sunday. Life will be far too busy next week. My mother is also in the hospital, by the way, and our surgeries are one day apart. And did I mention we're in different hospitals, about 10 miles away? ![]() 2/10 EDIT ... Make that later in the day on Sunday. But for me, the clock runs out then. Monday and Tuesday will be too frantic. I made the lot next door ... the background lot. I'm keepin' this one for future use ... what a headache to make because of the dummy wall and the facade on top. For some reason, it wasn't easy to link it to the contest lot. I had to make some major alterations to both lots. But is there a way to make that next-door lot look clearer? It looks pretty blurry right now! I set the fade distance and anything else applicable to the highest settings. I've done strip malls before (a few times), but I think the facade on top is the thing causing the most problems, so I had to reluctantly switch it out to a flatter one. The roofs blended in perfectly ... it was just the facade. It looked really uneven, even though it was the same facade! Still a slight difference, but a lot less noticeable. I also think the dummy roof is not helping, for some reason, even though they're the same clicks high. |
Yvelotic..I love, love your restaurant and the intro into it..great job..oh and I really love the pictures..of the first room so close to the furniture..makes it look bigger..great job
![]() Thank you kanzen.. ![]() My though of doing this contest out of my comfort zone was..well I have been doing contests over at CBS for about a year now and I haven't won any of them ![]() ![]() ![]() Cat..I just about crushed my foot several years ago in a haulage line at work..all I can do was walk around the wheel with that big cable and listen to the crunch, crunch of the steal in my shoes thinking omgosh I lost my whole foot..but I broke a few toes and busted blood vessels on the bottom of my toes..and went back to work the next day..I worked in a Brick Factory..moving the cars around to each press so the bricks that were made can go on them and then sent to the kilns.. I know it's not the same thing..she's a kid hehe..but let her know that and maybe the whining will stop for a bit lol.. |

Cat well her being 13 and her first injury it might be ok to whine and cry for the first few days..after that I would make her get up and do things on her own..lol..I have had 3 lower back, 2 neck, and a hip surgery..I do have my days of crying when I am by myself..my 16 year old grandson messed up his knee a couple of weeks ago and will have to have surgery in the next month..his first time injury..I think he is worried that he won't play next year in Basketball or track..he will be a Senior..and it worries me as well..I just don't say anything..
Opps sorry everyone..I'm getting off track.. |
This contest is really becoming powerful. I love all the builds I have seen so far. Seriously am speechless.

And yes! Good job so far everybody! Can't wait to see more :lovestruc |
Play Along Entry: Tumbleweed Diner
Play Along Entry: Tumbleweed Diner
Been tearing down the highway under the heat of the desert sun? Did you already drain that gallon of water down your gullet? Are you crossing your legs and curling your toes, searching the canyons for some place to stop and pee? Well boy howdy, do we have a desert oasis for the weary. Located at the most remote bus stop for thirty miles is Tumbleweed Diner which boasts an air conditioned, recently (the 70's is recent enough if you really think about it) renovated space to serve up all the down-home American style grub anybody could ever want. Tumbleweed was once a roadside garage where all manner of weary travelers would stop for a tune up, and now, under new ownership, Tumbleweed Diner is offering tune ups of the biological kind! Stop in and park it at the bar for a spell, flick on your favorite tunes at the jukebox or pop a quarter (or ten!) into the arcade system to bask in the cool, cool air and melt the stress of cross-country travel away. They say it's not about the destination, but the journey, and Tumbleweed Diner is a home-style respite as you embark upon that journey. Come on in, what can we get ya? (EDIT: Forgot to add, this thing is CC Free!) ![]() |
bbostic8 I really love this little diner..I have been in places like it growing up and when I was hitch hiking around the country lol..
Beautiful job.. ![]() |
I usually like to write a long story, but really, I don't have the time. Sorry!
Golden Pearl Restaurant ![]() Part of a strip mall and located by the Tigress clothing store in my game, The Golden Pearl is based on real-life informal noodle place establishments with a little upscaling. Not TOO upscale, though! Diners can rent the separate room for very small parties. Sushi, sashimi, tea and coffee are included in the cost if a Sim rents the room. The main part of the restaurant contains the food stand. Ice cream, coffee and green tea are included in the price. Customers can also enjoy Japanese beverages from the vending machine. These are separate from the price. No stompies in a real game. I made sure of that. What is cool is that the sushi table actually works like a game's buffet table with Asian dishes. I did not create it, though, so ... http://lilsisterg.tumblr.com/post/1...ce-buffet-table. Alas, though, the gong is not functional. But it's a gong. I would only hope that my Sims kids wouldn't try to bang on it too much! I tried not to go overboard with the content, but shot past my favored amount easily. I had a really hard time finding an Asian wallpaper in the dummy ceiling area that would go with the decor and didn't have the pattern cut off. This wallpaper looks very much like an origami paper design, so I went with that one. No matter what, I couldn't get the adjoining lot to come out clearer. Perhaps it's because I lot-shrunk it; perhaps not. But at least there is something on one side connecting the stores. The restaurant would be the end lot. I had a big, bold railing on top, but lot shrinking also seems to affect those, too. No matter what, even though there were the same clicks on both dummy roofs and I'm using the same railings on both the restaurant and the other lot, the railings on top mismatched. As you might be able to see in the overhead view, the roofs connect perfectly, so the buildings are the same height. The big, bold railing REALLY looked bad and really mismatched between the two buildings, so I had to go for a much lower one, much to my disappointment. The things you learn in these contests ... |
gazania oh I really love your diner..I would go there..
![]() Great job ![]() |
Thank you! And I actually made a Tigress Clothing store as well, just in case more got into the picture than I thought. (Not much did, fortunately!)
Alas, I had time only for the one store. ![]() |
Round 1 - Desert Restaurant
14 Attachment(s)
Welcome to Fiesta Mexicana, a restaurant out in the desert somewhere. (Yes, I stole the name from a restaurant here in town, though I'm sure there are tons of Mexican restaurants named that. Very original of me, I know)
![]() I don't have a story for you or much to say about it really. I'll just let the pics do most of the talking. And that's it. |
Pretty and wonderful entries, all of you! You are really causing me to want to dine out - in fact, I am phoning a friend right now to hear if we can go and eat out tomorrow. I just love the splashes of colour, justJones, it is gorgeous.
|
Oh MAN! I was all set for some dim-sim; but now I just gotta have me some chile relleno... mmmm
![]() *ring ring* ![]() Nice job on that façade, Jones ![]() |
I suddenly want sushi AND quesadillas...it's the middle of the night and no one is open! What a predicament you two put me in gazania and justJones!
I'll just have to settle for whatever's in the kitchen Q U Q hopefully my lone can of pork and beans are still there! oh and I just dropped by to edit my entry in it's final form u v u now I'm truly satisfied |
God I have to build mine tonight it seems
I have to rebuild mine because guessed who lost their data yay |
Going restaurant crawling with Cat and kanzen then
![]() |
justJones..I love your diner..
![]() I grew up in the desert and Mexican restaurants and really love how all of these look.. ![]() ![]() OnayaW you better get a move on lol Justpetro..I will go restaurant crawling with you, Cat and kanzen ![]() Beautiful job everyone.. ![]() |
I've got a really tough act to follow with all these awesome entries!! Got to get a wriggle on with decorating the inside of mine!!
|
Sparkly that is why I try and not look at other entries..it wants to make you second guess yourself..and I won't even look at mine now..I will second guess what I have done and go and mess it up royally lol..
|
I builded a restuarant out from a faint memory from the time I was in the US but it's so late now that i rather sleep...
|
I think that as long as you second guess yourself, you can still improve. That way of thinking helps me keep going and going until I don't have any doubts. Once that doubts are gone, then I'm done and satisfied. But that's how I function as a person. Maybe you have a different way broomhilda61. But don't be afraid of the other entries, let them be your strength and be inspired =) It's no wonder how the sims 2 community is still thriving today - I think it's all because we co-inspire one another to keep on growing.
|
Lovely job people!
"drools" now I am hungry! |
Thank you kanzen for your words of encouragement..
![]() I'm not afraid of the other entries I am afraid of my own..and I tend to second guess myself even in real life..and thinking outside the box scares the tar out of me ![]() ![]() I'm working on it very slowly ![]() ![]() I finally have learned somewhat on recoloring..but that is hard as well because I am color blind ![]() ![]() I can't wait to see what the other entries look like..omgosh it's a nail bitter when entries get close to the dead line when they are posted ![]() |
Being afraid to do new things is human.
Doing new things while being afraid means putting more effort into those things and deliver a better outcome in the end! |
So
My local library’s internet doesn’t wanna drive this site so I can’t upload my pictures That kinda sucks |
I am assuming you are taking them by USB to the library? Will it let you attach them to an email to yourself and you download to your phone from your email then upload to modyourpanties. You can do that one at a time, if it is too much space at once @OnayaW

R1 - A Restuarant in the middle of nowhere
I tried to submit before but then it went like...
PICTURES? HA NEVER EXISTED. Anyway, I took inspirtation from my tour to USA in 2012 where we came across death valley and that and felt over a restuarant in the middle of nowhere. They served really good burgers and we got ice cream there melted faster than we could eat them, but hey, that's properly common in the summer season... It just feels awkward to only be 6 people in the restuarant. 4 costumers and 2 workers... I also got to count a train. 111. The train took like 5+ min to pass and suddenly I could see how the "Train" (A short movie we had in school) could be true... anyway My restuarant! ![]() |

I started playing in my late 40s, so I was a late bloomer as well. I see the contest this way: It's pretty doubtful I will be on the level of some here. I tend to have a plainer, pretty basic approach to lot building. Gardening is a particular weakness. Most of the times in my RL game, I plop a few plants here and there and that's it! This last lot was probably the most plant-plopping I've done in a while, and even that was pretty simple ... barely any move_objects at all (I used it to place some lights). So this is my approach: since I seriously doubt I'd get the oohs and aahs that the top people get, I personally challenge myself building the lots. In the Community Spirit contest, I rolled a dice to see which family I'd get. I mess around with sunken foundations, historically-based buildings (preferring post-50s houses, but as in the CS contest or my custom vacation hood, I'll go earlier sometimes!), modular or container building, connected buildings, some basic CFE tricks, buildings for specific needs, etc. etc. This personal challenge for me this round was to make an Asian-based strip mall restaurant (which doesn't go against the BV theme since often, when vacationing, we'll go into a town for a quick bite to eat). Oh ... and incorporate CFE doing it, which I haven't done before this entry. I use house plans and Google images to inspire me and to assure me that any building layout would be structurally sound and/or have some sort of authenticity. The tropical lot will be another challenge. Depending on the budget, I already have one in mind. And if my health is up to it after surgery, maybe another hotel will be in the future with an entry (I've done at least five hotels so far, NOT including the Infamous Box Motel!*). Hotels can be particularly challenging because one mistake and you can get a frozen housekeeper (in my case, often, and generally not on the first day ... generally, it's the second or third) or no hotel guests. Doing personal challenges provides me with a little fun, and I get better at stuff, even if I don't officially win or even place in the Top 3. I'm looking forward to the next lot and seeing what I'll attempt or improve on next. (Now that I think of it, maybe one challenge should be to do more extensive and artistic plant-plopping!) *I was having so much trouble with Freezy the Housekeeper that I built a bunch of box hotel rooms to see where I went wrong, or if a mod was causing trouble. (Under spoiler at http://www.modthesims.info/showthre...167#post5196167 if you're curious. I believe that has been probably the ugliest build on MTS to date, but in all fairness, it was a quick test lot. Oh, and to add that special touch, Freezy didn't freeze at all!) |
I laughed so much when that Box Motel was built that it will forever have a special place in my heart
![]() |
OnayaW how cute is that restaurant
![]() ![]() Oh you are getting that stupid pukebucket picture of your box Motel..gazania At CBS we have challenges as well..no voting just doing what needs to be done and sometimes I tend to do a bit more lol.. Our next B.A.D. is hard..but I found a lot of things for it right here on MTS.. |

So irritating! Photo*ucket is a pain in the butt.
Fortunately for me, it's not entirely gone. MystAngel copied it in her Community Spirit post a couple down from me, complete with her noting that I didn't even extend the roof properly on one box! Such fussy tourists. How DARE they want a roof completely over the box?! Thank you, MystAngel, wherever you are. You have helped keep the Box Motel alive. ![]() |
That's funny gazania..
![]() I love your box Motel..omgosh how cute are those.. ![]() I know about the Sims wanting a complete roof..complain because the rain or snow is coming in..or it gets to hot for them lol.. ![]() |
I'm going to need an extension...somehow managed to break my game installation ;_;
So it's gonna take a while to get it back up and running. |
Oh no Sparkly..that's not a good thing..are you in the judging part or the playalong..

I built the restuarant out from my memories and I remember it had this old-ish look. It was clean though and feet didn't stick to the floor so all in all good. I did wonder why the place had a playground but I guess when placed in the middle of nowhere you also exist as like a stop? |
I believe I have gotten everyone's posts updated
![]() @kanzen your link still works ![]() We are down to under 4 days people! so the following people this is just a reminder that time is coming near to the end of the first round! Sonoran/California desert / restaurant
![]() Welcome to the Tumbleweed Cantina. You can dine inside but most people prefer the shaded patio. There is a pinata for the kids to whack and a fountain to sit by while waiting for the bus. The manager's office is upstairs. The shaded veranda is for staff and management to relax during breaks. There is also a place for vaqueros to tie their horses when they come in to eat. 40 x 20 size Community $93, 752 (Thanks Broomhilda) |
porkypine..omgosh I really love, love this restaurant.. :lovestruc I love the desert details..really pretty..
![]() To get the price..go into build mode and then at the top of the left had corner you will see a icon click on that and the price and all will pop up..that is how I was told to do it.. ![]() |
@gazania I love that wall candle fixture so much??? Where on earth did you get it? Also, I want to see more of your outdoor eating section! It looks so nice. The combo of the fencing and the gate, as well as the red/black color scheme do a lot to set the mood for the restaurant.
@justJones What an awesome facade you made! It looks just like an El Torito (an American Mexican food chain restaurant) I used to live nearby. The wooden support posts along the roof and sides of the restaurant add a lot of authenticity. I'm also loving the complementary relationship between the mango colored walls and the blue shutters near the doorways. @OnayaW My favorite part of your build is the sneaky little creek/river running along the back part of the restaurant. I didn't notice it my first nor second time looking at your pics, but just registered its presence this last time looking. It really establishes the setting, especially with all the greenery around it. You've done a good job capturing the vibe of a mid-sized American fare restaurant. I've been in so many restaurants on road trips that look just like yours. @porkypine Your use of bold colors and patterns are blowing me away! The multi-level structure and outdoor seating is really innovative, yet natural for a Mexican-style restaurant in the desert heat. Lots of shade to offer shelter from the sun. Great job! |

@bbostic8
I’m surprised I got it so correct for something I made out from a faint memory. I just remember they had this pond they made themselves in that very bare desert But I made it subtle by being in the back and made it seem Well Natural xD |
Ok got you on the board @porkypine love the decor and the ambience!

Love it, @porkypine

The entries so far have been fantastic. I'm excited to see the final ones before the round is over. The suspense is building!
|
Totally agree with you!
|
The best part is you can see how people normally build in their games in many of them
Not saying it is correct Like I made the decor old but all my houses are modern |
Am so enjoying this. Nice build everyone. Will continue to admire in secreat

Porkypine, I love the bright colours! Makes it stand out really well.

Round 1
Welcome to Cartography: Putting Good Food on the Map!
Cartography is a food cart co-op that features traditional foods from desert-dwelling cultures across Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Did you know that these extreme regions feature some of the most extremely delicious food in the world? Step on up and let your tastebuds do some traveling! ![]() I hope to add a bit more commentary and one more picture, but I have to leave for work right now and then I'm hitting the road. I'll try to log on tonight from my motel unless I have trouble with the wifi or I forget. Great entries everyone!! See you on the other side! edit: I got the wifi to work and added in the backstories for the food carts that I thought of during the last 5 hours of driving. Now it's bedtime. ![]() |
Lovely idea! @Freelala nice to see all the variety and creativity in ALL the entries so far!

Presenting, at last, my entry for round 1!
Welcome to Pine Tree Cafe and Bar! A mountain themed restaurant ![]() ![]() This cabin sat for a long time on a small mountaintop overlooking a pond which was rumoured in the olden days to be behind a lot of sinister plans. It took a lot of love, TLC and some very generous drink deals to turn it into a place to meet with friends or family, enjoy some mixed drinks and enjoy a delicious menu of hearty favourites in the upstairs cafe. I hope you enjoyed it! No amount of game corruption will set me back ![]() |
Playalong - Joy Luck Club and Restaurant
![]() Kindly ignore the working title. I forgot to rename it before I took the picture, and picture-taking has been a pain in the neck. Fraps stopped working, even after reinstalling it, and I haven't figured out how to take screenshots with the new program without it taking me out of the game. I finished the lot ages ago, but have been struggling with the pictures. Which is why there's a couple of pictures here with gridlines. If I were competing I'd have retaken them but for a playalong I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Playtested in the college hood I was playing anyway. The finest in Takemizan dining is now presented in a form accessible and comprehensible to Simerican tourists. We even named it after a book you might reasonably have heard of but haven't read. No need to take off your shoes, bend your legs into unaccustomed positions, or learn how to handle chopsticks! After eating, go out back and experience the Zen Garden, or into the Club building to learn as much as you're willing to about Takemizan culture, with karaoke, mah-jong, and tea! The simplicity of the decor will soothe your frazzled nerves and make you feel that broadening your mind isn't as hard as all that. Required Pics: And show off pics: |
What a unique and very modern approach to the criteria, @Freelala. There was a food truck location across the street from my old high school that resembled Cartography. They rallied the trucks at 4pm each Friday and attracted all kinds of people. I like the realism and the trendiness of having restaurants on wheels, and I think it's a very creative idea on your part.
I am really digging the contrast between your day time façade and how it looks at night, @Sparklypotato. That coupled with the eerie lake rumors and the forested location make for a spooky and enticing lore-worthy restaurant that I'm sure gets passed around anecdotally at any campfire. @PeniGriffin, I actually really like the courtyard with minimal vegetation. Having the zen garden as the centerpiece is certainly enough, and also lends itself to the authenticity of the structure. There are plenty of places where I'm from with traditional Japanese architecture, and either a koi pond, orchard, or zen garden are almost always the centerpiece of the structure. |
Just to let you know @Gdayars, I will post something tomorrow.

Sunbee..very simple and pretty..I love it
![]() |
@Sunbee you will need you to use a screenshot program or the print screen button since the smallest picture size allowed is 800 by 600. You can't use the C key as the shots are far too small.
With your floor plan can you zoom in until your walls are nearly touching the edge of your picture frame. Please also say what you have picked. This time it is obviously the east, but it isn't always so obvious. For example, a heading might be 'Entry Round 1 Far East Restaurant' You also need to show the price in the game so as to prove the amount. If you need any help with any of this please feel free to ask and we will be more than happy to help you. ![]() |
I'm afraid that I am going to have to withdraw from the contest - once again I have bitten off more than I can chew as my mental health has not been as good as I'd hoped/expected :-( I don't have the mental energy to do as many things as I would like, and sadly sims contests are something which I can't justify the energy use for at the moment as I need to focus on work, my relationship with my partner and my upcoming house move (to move in with said partner, so though it's stressful it will be worth it!).
I will be popping by to see everyone's entries and to keep up with how the contest is going, but sadly I won't be taking part. Good luck to all the contestants! :-) And thank you @gdayars for organising/hosting! |

I will make drinks as needed

Holy crap I want those mushrooms. Now. Someone else can have the peppers. I suppose I'll take one of whatever that meat is...pork chops, maybe?
@lauratje86, sorry to hear that. I totally understand. I'm more inclined to use my energy for sims vs other stuff I should be doing, which is not a good thing. But if I don't have that distraction, I can get even worse, so I will let some non-essential but more important than sims things slide sometimes because I know if I don't "get away" via sims, my mental state will get worse. |

Only about 12 more hours to go, and so many still missing! We know a couple will be delayed, and lauratje86 dropped out, but most of the others have been pretty quiet. Hope we hear from them soon!
And looking at the front chart, don't forget Peni Griffin and Sparklypotato! ![]() Out of curiosity, when will the next budget and requirements be posted? If I recall, in the CS contest, there was a three-day delay to enable the judges to have time to get their scores for the previous round together. I don't want to lose time for THIS upcoming round by missing the posting like I did last time. Still in "ow" mode post-surgery, but I think I should be able to get something together. |
Coral Bay Beach
OK so here we go - I've got something to post. Not entirely what I was thinking of originally but I've been so ill I've not had the energy to sort everything out so it's going to have to do. I enjoyed making it though and I think the sky box here is lovely.
So.... Theme: Tropical Lot: Restaurant Price: $51842 Welcome to Saint Andrea Island, a jewel of the Caribbean. Enjoy a dream holiday in beautiful tropical locations at prices you can afford. When visiting Coral Bay beach, at first, when you arrive at the front of the lot it might not seem all that interesting - just a small path leading off the dirt road into jungle plants but then ![]() |
@lauratje86 Take good care of yourself first.
@franfeliano I love the idea of this lot. And I'm very impressed with the likeness to an actual ship. Nice work! Now, I'll take a fermented juice, please, and a steak. Time's closing in on the end of the round, and I find myself anxious to see who else submits something amazing before it's over. I'll be with my sim people making their lives crazy, but I'm going to be checking in! |
