@heaven- I'm so sad about Seymour! =( That sounds awful. I've ranted to you about all my computer issues, so I won't repeat them here, but I really, really hope you get your computer fixed. I don't know much of anything about this stuff, but I agree with Envie and Duckie- Your computer maker sounds mean (for lack of a better word). Try not to let them get to you though. I know it can be frustrating, but you deserve a good computer! *hugs*

@misslaheela- That sounds awful! I hope your IT people can fix your internet. *more hugs*

@Becky- You don't need to apologize for slower updates. You're still faster than me! (Although I'm not really the standard by which these things should be measured. Haha.)

@Envie- Jealous! I want to be away all weekend, lol. Well, I hope you have a good time!

CinderEmma 9th Nov 2012 9:54 AM

Working on my legacy, finally got my game working great It feels like years XD
One problem though. For some reason, my sims don't want to use mirrors. It won't click no matter how many times I stab it with my mouse. Not. At. All. Come on, Blair can't rock out to the mirror without a functional mirror!

Please sims gods, pleeeeeease just let me have some time without stupid fing issues with my game. Please?

And Blair, why does your hair looks pixelated and crap compared to Elissa's (and almost every hair in existence)? Guess who's going to the salon soon! XD

ayumichi 9th Nov 2012 12:30 PM

Seems like a lot of bloggers here have problems with their PCs... I hope everything goes well soon! I keep checking back this thread for updates on my favorites legacies XD

Don't worry, I'll wait patiently C: *sits back, open PS, and paint*

I'm sorry to hear about everyone's computer problems. I hope they all get fixed soon. Heaven, I agree with Envie. I'd try contacting Newegg directly about your computer issues. If that fails, the next time you have to deal directly with the manufacturer and they disagree with your insistence that they send you a fully functioning machine, make sure you demand to speak to a manager.

ReyaD 9th Nov 2012 3:38 PM

Hey guys, typing from my phone to apologize for the lack of update last night. I'm kind of in another country. Mom planned an impromptu vacation for the long weekend and I was nabbed!

Still have my computerr with me, hotel should have wifi and I have a fee chapters buffered so maybe an update tonight. Dammit though, between school, the contest I'm hosting, social commitments and my stories I'm so crazy busy!

calisims 9th Nov 2012 3:52 PM

Have fun on your trip, Cece! I was going to enter your contest, but I've been kind of busy as well.

Edit:
Just thought I'd share a couple of pics of Tansy and Moth. SP just made them get engaged, and I squeed. Moth has been waiting over 20,000 years for this, lol.

envoy 9th Nov 2012 5:13 PM

I'm so sorry to hear about your computer, Heaven! I hope this time things actually get fixed.

And your sims are so beautiful, calisims! I should think about putting more supernaturals than just zombies into my legacy. I adore fairies. May I ask where you got the beautiful facial tattoos that you use...? My tattoo list is very small. It's probably why I never use them...

And I have an update to share! I fell bad for breaking my one-update-a-day streak but I suppose it was inevitable. I hope that the length and content makes up for that, though.

NutsAndDolts 9th Nov 2012 5:19 PM

My boyfriend randomly jumped up next to me, looked at that picture, and declared: "I have a sister!? is what that elf guy is saying."

Envie42 9th Nov 2012 6:29 PM

Oh cali, she's SO beautiful, I love love that dress. I think I must have that fairy!! Moth is a lucky fairy-boy haha!

@CeCe - have a great trip, sounds fun! I'm just going on a weekend road-trip not overseas, I'm late packing now because I insisted on getting my chapter done before we leave haha!

Here tis' to tide everyone over until I get back and start the St. Claire chapter of the Twist Legacy next week!

Ch. 2.3 - "Wrapping up loose ends"

calisims 9th Nov 2012 6:53 PM

Thanks, I'm glad you guys like Tansy. She's the genetic child of the two Sims in my current avatar, Tania and Auberon, but I changed her hair and skin color. She's got a nice blend of their features, Tania's nose and mouth, Auberon's eyes and his facial structure as well.
Becky, Moth is very confused now. Ihaveasister? CanIstill marryher?
I'm looking forward to Tansy and Moth making a little fairy baby someday.

envoy, here's a link to Tansy's facial tattoo:
http://virtualartisan.blogspot.com/...ions-set-i.html

Envie, I can share Tansy if you want her. I'll try to get her up on the blog this weekend sometime. Moth may tag along. Have a nice trip!

calisims 9th Nov 2012 7:47 PM

Ah, I haven't seen this ad. I bet my nieces are all very well informed about this, though.

heatherfeather19 9th Nov 2012 8:56 PM

I have been away from this thread for waaaaay too long. School keeps me busy. :/

Anyway, I have a new chapter up: Chapter 2.6 - http://diffylegacy.blogspot.com/201...chapter-26.html

ashaw814 9th Nov 2012 9:57 PM

I've got a new chapter here in which Dagon gets a birthday party! Hopefully it will be a nice little pick me up after Envie's heart-wrenching update!

envoy 9th Nov 2012 10:13 PM

Thanks so much for the link, calisims! I'm debating moving some supernaturals into the town or simply waiting a generation or two and moving my legacy family to a new town that has supernaturals...

Although to be honest I'll probably get so caught up in seasons when it comes out that the supernaturals may have to wait. Or perhaps I'll make a new legacy with the supernaturals in the future. But in the meantime I'll play with my fairies in my side games.

Oh she's gorgeous!

@Heaven - So sorry to hear about your computer problems. I'm highly unconvinced by your manufacturer's claim (I'm not sure whereabouts you are, if it were in the UK it would definitely be wrong but I don't know as much about consumer protection laws elsewhere)

Skyegal19 9th Nov 2012 10:29 PM

I have a new post Here if anyone wants to read

CinderEmma 10th Nov 2012 1:22 AM

Question - should I edit the townies? Not severely or anything, just make them look closer to all the sims I inserted in my game. And I'll keep a few ugly ones too XD I have some sims from Kiwi_Tea that are amazing because they're from a cult, and will keep them the way they look even if they're a bit...plain for my liking XD I probably will, but want your opinions too.
*now pokes my mirrors in my game to start working again so Blair can practice his smexy moves*

calisims 10th Nov 2012 2:01 AM

Emma, of course you should edit the townies. =D

So, Moth didn't wait one day before knocking Tansy up. So I will get my wish to see their fairy baby faster than I expected.

NutsAndDolts 10th Nov 2012 2:23 AM

LOL, I wouldn't have left that up to story progression. xD

But hey, I want to see the fairy babies too, so I should keep my mouth shut eh? =)

ReyaD 10th Nov 2012 2:37 AM

Fairy baby! : D You must post pics, Cali. As soon as you can sneak a peak. Omg so excited.

Trip is going awesome. Haven't had time to actually write but I have enough photos for two chapters so hopefully I'll get at least -one- out either tonight or tomorrow.

CinderEmma 10th Nov 2012 2:40 AM

At least editing the townies will keep me busy while I figure out the mirror issue XD Legacy a little unplayable without mirrors, as Blair needs charisma and I don't see him reading much XD

*enjoyed making one really ugly sim pretty enough, then fatting her up XD*

misslaheela 10th Nov 2012 2:58 AM

Unfortunately my next legacy update is pushed back until AT LEAST Wednesday. While I was downloading some CC, MediaFire gave me a stupid internet browser called "SpeedBit." It made so many advertisements appear and completely overtook all my other search engines, and it annoyed me so badly that I uninstalled and deleted it. Only it didn't go away. Turns out SpeedBit had a virus that corrupted all of my computer's files and the IT guys at my school have to reinstall basically everything (my entire hardware, my Windows 7, EVERYTHING) in order to get my internet to work again. It's going to cost me $100. Thank you, SpeedBit. Thank you.

So, my laptop's probably not getting back to me before Wednesday. This makes me very sad. I miss the forum, and I have to do all my homework on the school's computers.

If they had made me wait too long, I would have pollinated her. But, I leave Moth alone with Tansy for ONE DAY and she's preggers....

I will definitely post pics of the fairy baby when it happens.I really can't wait to see how it turns out.

biatchymissy 10th Nov 2012 4:16 AM

Hi there, I stumbled across this challenge/legacy a few days and think it is interesting. What I am having a challenge with at the moment is after I download the random roller app what do I do with it? Does it get extracted into the game itself or is it a stand alone type thing? Thanks in advance for your help

PSDuckie 10th Nov 2012 4:48 AM

It's stand-alone.

Personally, I manually roll on random.org. But if you want to use the autoroller, just extract it into a folder and run the file as if it were an ordinary program.

CyyKosis 10th Nov 2012 4:54 AM

PSDuckie is right, I built it as a Java application so after you unzip it to whatever location you like, all you need do is double click the file. If it doesn't open then you might not have Java installed on your computer. You can get it here.

biatchymissy 10th Nov 2012 5:46 AM

Thank you both very much. I did need to get my techy son to help me as I am a little technologically challenged and I could not get it to work. Its working now and my first practice roll wanted me to have 5 kids!!!!! I rarely ever have more than one in the sims so I hope that is not what I get in my first real roll

ReyaD 10th Nov 2012 6:03 AM

5 kids isn't so bad. Really! (Just don't have them all at once as my sims did...)

Anyway, I have an update as promised.

6.14 - Every Rose has its Thorns http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...its-thorns.html

Baby #2 is born, and becomes a toddler. Other shit happens.

And I believe this is one of the reasons I am forbidden to use mediafire.

misslaheela, I'm sorry for your bad luck in that. I hope they're able to get that all fixed up for you!

hjaxon1701 10th Nov 2012 6:38 AM

Wow, it sounds like everybody's computers are acting up. Heaven and Misslaheela, I hope you get your computer issues resolved. Few things are quite as irritating as a malfunctioning computer.

My computer it working, but alas, the patch broke my game. My Sims have lost their wishes, Robert and Jane keep vanishing, and I cannot get their needs bars, relationships, etc to appear on the interface. I deleted mods I had forgotten to update, took out any CC I had installed since the last time I played, made sure my core mods were up to date, deleted the cache files...I'm stumped. I thought i was going to get to play today since I finished my work early, but nope. So much for that idea. I won't have time to fuss with it for awhile but I may end up trying to install my backup files. Ugh.

Skyegal19 10th Nov 2012 9:34 AM

Wordpress is playing me up so my blogs been moved to blogger.

Kathleen_Anne 10th Nov 2012 9:44 AM

Wow! I love this challenge! I tended to play the same way and was playing for ages without many expansion packs then I bought a stack and didn't know where to start so tried to do everything in one generation, lol. I've started a new legacy and I'm only on the first generation which goes as follows:

Marital status: second chance
No. Children: 5
Income
P: Firefighter
S: Collecting
S: Freelance photographer
Generation goal: hobby or obsession
Misc Fun: Homemade

I've just gotten the first spouse pregnant. It was funny because just before I found the callenge I was reading a story with a firefighter and said "I've never had a firefighter, I'll have to do that because it looks fun" and the first generation I roll with the random challenge is just that :D

I'm thinking of making a story for this challenge but haven't got around to it yet as I've been working pretty hard on my other story.

Five kids isn't bad... my sims usually have ten or so! lol.

Skyegal19 10th Nov 2012 9:57 AM

Chapter 3 is up Here
Chapters are short at the moment but i plan if i can to make them longer as i Go along. Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading

Buckley 10th Nov 2012 2:38 PM

Welcome to the challenge, Kathleen_Anne! I look forward to reading your story, if you decide to start one. Be sure to post a link here so we can check it out.

@hjaxon- I'm sorry about your game! I wish I had some advice to give you, but I don't know much about these things. I hate patching though, so I can definitely sympathize. Good luck with it!

Edited to Add: Misslaheela, did you get the virus from mediafire?! I download from there a lot, so now I'm worried... Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your computer. I hope they can fix it soon!

calisims 10th Nov 2012 2:47 PM

Welcome to the challenge, Kathleen Anne and biatchymissy!
Let us know if you have any questions.

Kathleen_Anne 10th Nov 2012 3:01 PM

Thanks for the welcome buckley! I've decided to start a story afterall. It's inspired by the rainbow challence and the post apocalyptic challenge and played using the random legacy rules plus a few others I made up to suit the theme. (For example, my sims can't garden in their garden until generation green. They have to use indoor pots or garden inside a biodome.)

I've just written the prologue so far (which doesn't have any pictures) but you can find the story on my wordpress blog here or if you prefer you can also follow the updates on my blogspot blog here

I haven't finished setting the blog up yet, but I'll have the rules to the challenge and a link and all sorts of other things, so forgive that it's a little bare just now Also, please forgive the amature, over the top dramatics. What can I say? I'm weak. I couldn't resist. LOL

Are you by any chance using MasterController from NRaas? I used to have the same problem in my game (with both the mirrors and the dressers) and it turned out to be MasterController. I redownloaded the file and the problem was gone.

Anyway, I've read a couple of the legacies available on blogspot and decided to start my own. I have to say, it's actually turning out to be quite interesting so far. I'm still on the first generation and my founder had only just met the future father of her children, but I'm having a lot of fun playing with her. This is also the first time I've actually attempted to write a story instead of just playing it out in my head and I must say, I'm rather surprised at the result.

calisims 10th Nov 2012 4:25 PM

Welcome, dragonprincess!
Are you blogging your story? If so, please post a link so we can check it out.

ConvictedDreamer 10th Nov 2012 5:38 PM

Well, my story is located here.

As I said, I'm still new to this, but so far I really enjoy playing with Evi (my nickname for my founder). When I saw her rolls I thought her story would be pretty straightforward - until I noticed the 'Single' and 'Multi-cultural' rolls. That kind of threw me for a loop.

This is her rolls:

Single
2 children
P. Income: Education
Generation Goal: Perfect Children
Miscellaneous fun: Multi-cultural

calisims 10th Nov 2012 6:06 PM

Great start on your legacy, I just checked out your blog! I almost never played single parents in Sims 3 until I started this legacy. Now I love getting any kind of non-traditional family structure roll, it's more fun for me that way. Though it is nice to play a happy couple once in awhile, lol.

Do let us know if you have any questions, we are always happy to help.

Skyegal19 10th Nov 2012 6:09 PM

Well Welcome to the New comers, It's great fun, this challenge if you don't have crashes.
I have an new update here
How often is best to update, I have chapters 5-7 ready and i am working on chapter 8, but i don't know how long to leave between chapters.
Thanks

calisims 10th Nov 2012 6:21 PM

Personally, I just update whenever I have a chapter ready, which can sometimes be several times a week, and sometimes leaves a week or more between chapters. I don't think there's any universal ideal schedule for updates.

ReyaD 10th Nov 2012 7:04 PM

I try to post every 1 - 2 days, but thats just because I'm quite insane and consider Sims to be my stress reliever so I play almost nightly. Most people just update whenever they have a chapter ready, that means it might be two chapters in one day, than a few days before the next one. There's no "ideal", and I like how everyone updates differently.

Skyegal19 10th Nov 2012 7:47 PM

ok thanks
Part time Careers- Can i use Nrass Career mod or is it aganist the rules thanks

hjaxon1701 10th Nov 2012 8:13 PM

Welcome to the challenge Kathleen and Dragonprincess! The more, the merrier!

Skyegal, I update when I have time and material, so my updates are usually weeks apart. Cece is definitely right that there is no best way to update...whatever fits your schedule and your playing style is best.

@Buckley, thanks for the good wishes! I was so bummed last night. I'm going to try one more thing before taking all of my CC out. Fingers crossed...

Skyegal19 10th Nov 2012 8:31 PM

Well, I have another update. Mel has had her 2nd child and Gen 2 has been rolled. Check it out Here
I will post chapter 6 tommorow and Chapter 7 on Monday iF I have time.

I got the virus from SpeedBit. I think the very first time I was downloading from MediaFire, SpeedBit came with it, and it was that search engine that corrupted all my files. So I wouldn't pin the blame all on MediaFire, but that's where I did get the one file that DID have a major virus. So if it ever asks you if you want to install SpeedBit, say NO.

gizmoman49 11th Nov 2012 3:12 AM

Okay, after my old legacy was royally screwed over by update bugs, I've decided to start a new one. Here's my founder, Nicholas Theobald:

His traits are childish, artistic, natural cook, friendly, and great kisser. I'm planning on making childish the family trait & theming their clothing, house, & actions around little kid stuff. And it is a random legacy, his rolls are:
Martial Structure: Couple
Number of Children: 2
Income:-Primary: Alchemist
-Secondary: Artist
Generational Goal: Awesome
Fun Goal: Gourmet

So any opinions? Ideas? I'm really open to anything at this point.

teal_moonshine 11th Nov 2012 4:10 AM

Does anyone know of any community lots that would fit in with Sunlit Tides island-ness? I always think my lots look lackluster.

ShakespearesSunshyne 11th Nov 2012 4:30 AM

Relativity has been updated! Though I'm still scared to patch. Burned too many times when I miss that one little uncompatible download...

ConvictedDreamer 11th Nov 2012 9:09 AM

Okay, I have a question about my rolls. I rolled for two children, with a generation goal of Perfect Children and a Misc. Fun roll of Multi-Cultural.

As I understand the rules, the children can be anything (biological, adopted or mix), right? In that case, if I decide to make one of the children adopted, at what age stage should s/he join my family? Would toddler be acceptable, or does it have to be as a baby? Also, are all the children supposed to be multi-cultural, even the adopted one, if I do decide to adopt a kid?

teal_moonshine 11th Nov 2012 9:15 AM

I think it was discussed that for perfect children, if you adopt they need to be at least toddler because they have skills to learn, so I'd assume that means you don't HAVE to go baby if you don't want.

To be that sounds like ramblings

Skyegal19 11th Nov 2012 10:09 AM

Ok I have another Update.
Chapter 6
Chapter 7

ConvictedDreamer 11th Nov 2012 11:14 AM

Okay, so that clarifies the aging question, but what about the multi-cultural one? I'm busy planning out a bit more of my plot, but now I need to know if my idea is actually going to work. If ALL the children have to be multi-cultural, then my plotline won't work, so...is it acceptable for one of the children to be 'normal'?

teal_moonshine 11th Nov 2012 11:30 AM

Oh sorry, I missed that. To get the multi-cultural part on the adopted child, you could just edit him/her in CAS to look like they're from another culture.

ConvictedDreamer 11th Nov 2012 11:45 AM

I know I could just edit the child, but the problem is that his/her background won't be multi-cultural, as both of his/her parents are from the same culture as my sim. I'm not planning on making it an actual adoption as in 'call for adoption services' - I'm planning on using MC to add the child to the household, if it is allowed. So is that acceptable, or should I rather scratch that story?

teal_moonshine 11th Nov 2012 11:47 AM

The way most of the other lovely people here do it is: story > rules

EDIT: For my eventual legacy move, I've given up on Sunlit Tides, because lets face it, snow on an island... WEIRD. SO I'm thinking I'll play around with Sunset Valley. BUT dunno...

Buckley 11th Nov 2012 12:46 PM

I found a few ideas for you. Two of them are residential lots, but you could convert them to community lots if you wanted. I haven't downloaded any of them, so I can't vouch for their quality, but they look nice in the pictures.

Also, I would be happy to make a lot for you, if you wanted. I'm working on something for Becky right now, but it's taking a while. I'm a slow builder, and I haven't had a lot of time lately, but I do enjoy it. Just PM me if you're interested.

Edit: Just saw your edit. Lol. Well, my offer still holds if you'd like me to build a lot for your move to Sunset Valley, although there are already tons of lots out there for that world.

ConvictedDreamer 11th Nov 2012 1:06 PM

Okay, thanks a lot for the answers! I think I'm going to incorporate my idea into my legacy, as it'll give the story a twist that will be a bit more interesting (in my opinion) than it would've been for the original idea I had. Now I just have to play my game to that point so I can get my screenshots.

Also, update! Chapter 1.2: A Vacation to Remember

It was a MESS getting the shots for this chapter, but I eventually managed it. It's also quite a bit longer than the previous one - it kind of ran away with me.

teal_moonshine 11th Nov 2012 1:32 PM

Dragonprincess: To make it fit, you can always claim the adopted child is from a different culture, but an Anglo one. Say European descent of something. Might not fit EXACTLY into the "multi-cultural" definition, but it's kinda a small loophole for you?

Buckley: I think I love you. I wanted to move to Sunlit Tides and was just getting frustrated with building... Thanks for the links, I'll look through, work out what else I need then expect a "here is my list, pick and choose if you want to make any" message

As has already been said, everyone's different. Personally I try to update once a week but it's dependent on how much time I've had to play and whether I have enough for an update.

Envie42 11th Nov 2012 5:51 PM

Hello to all the new additions to the legacy challenge, yay for more stories!

I just got back from my weekend trip, phew.!

Here is the reason I went driving 5 hours each way in two days:

He's amazing! I know everyone was linking photos of their new pets awhile back, and I was so excited to be planning to go get mine, but didn't want to gush about it until I had him in my arms. Just adopted and picked him up yesterday. I am in love.

heaven 11th Nov 2012 5:58 PM

Oh, Envie! He is beautiful!

You're not the only one who drove 5 hours each way this weekend. Husband and I attended the Marine Corps birthday ball which was in Vegas this year. It was fun but I am not the biggest Vegas fan. Now I can say that I have been there, done that but no interest in going back. I did quadruple the money I gambled but when you start with only $2, it's not much of a win. :P

Envie42 11th Nov 2012 6:05 PM

Thanks heaven, he's an absolute love-bug too. So worth the long drive haha. I know what you mean about Vegas. I went there for a conference and then for someone's wedding a few months later. After the second trip, I decided I'd seen quite enough of Vegas. Fun place if you just let all your reservations go and soak up the hilarity of over the top glitzy consumerism haha! I don't gamble, but of course I had to plunk a roll of quarters in just to say I did it - I actually won $100 and was pretty excited, but then my friends were amazed I refused to gamble any more after that since they claimed I obviously had "lady luck" on my side. I said "you see, that's why I don't gamble. This goes right in my pocket and Lady Luck can stay there!" I see how people get addicted to that, its nuts.

Marine Corp birthday ball, woo all those gorgeous men in uniforms - I was a Navy girl for many years, I know many great marines.

*squeals*

Oh, Envie, he's GORGEOUS! What's his name? Is he a ragdoll? I don't know much about cat breeds, but I *love* ragdolls. They just have the sweetest personalities. But either way, your kitty is just darling! Congrats!

@heaven- Lol! I've never been to Vegas before, but I can tell you for sure it's definitely NOT my scene. I love camping, hiking, fishing... outdoorsy things. But I'm glad you quadrupled your gambling money! Better than losing I suppose.

envoy 11th Nov 2012 6:23 PM

Oh! Such a beautiful kitten! He's definitely worth a trip like that! So precious... It's been years since my big baby was that cute XD Now I feel nostalgic... I would love another kitten myself but my cat does not get along with other cats and I definitely want her to live for a long time yet so I'm happy to wait a long time for another kitten.

And I hope you enjoyed your trip, heaven! I have only been to one military ball for my cousin's graduation from Annapolis and it was a lovely affair. I hope you enjoyed your ball as well! And I do Vegas for the shows and the shopping, not much of a gambler. Fortunately the group of friends I usually go with are also not much for gambling so we have fun finding other things to do when we go.

And now I have an update to share. Not much Mist in this chapter which makes me feel bad with the kitty post, but I hope you enjoy seeing more of Sugar and Crystal's relationship as well as Winter being over-protective as usual.

Envie42 11th Nov 2012 6:23 PM

Haha thanks Buckley. Yes he's a Ragdoll kitten. The breeder named him "Addison" but that seems a little pretentious to me for a boy cat, hah! (Like Ashley for a man). I will probably rename him eventually. I found a small family breeder but a little further away than I wanted to drive. I had been researching types of cats, and even contacted a few ragdoll rescue agencies, but it just wasn't working out to find one when I had decided the Ragdoll was the breed for me. I have a 2 year old and wanted a cat (we live in a small apt) that would be compatible with him and not afraid or aggressive. I started to learn how amazingly sweet natured Ragdolls and Ragamuffins were plus their coat doesn't shed as much as other long haired types.

This is actually the Animal Planet video that convinced me I wanted a Ragdoll Cat: http://animal.discovery.com/tv-show...eos/ragdoll.htm

My guy is just everything they describe, sweet, loving, playful and a complete limp noodle who likes to lay on his back and be held like a baby. Considering I work from home , am on the computer a lot, and have a toddler, the ragdoll seemed like a great match for our lifestyle. He's fitting right in and laying next to my monitors sleeping.

envoy 11th Nov 2012 6:27 PM

I adore Ragdolls. I watch the animal planet a lot and remember when they were doing Cats 101 on all of the different cat breeds. If I were to get a purebred cat it would be a Ragdoll. All my cats thus far, though, have been from the animal shelter and I'm not sure what breeds they have been. Pretty sure the first cat I ever owned was an Abyssinian but the rest have been domestic shorthairs at best bet.

And he definitely sounds like a sweetheart! I'm glad to hear he's fitting in so well in your home!

Envie42 11th Nov 2012 6:40 PM

I do believe getting a cat from the shelter if you can is really the best option too envoy. I've had a few shelter kitties via fostering, and one who I adopted but ended up getting out and running away I had a german shepherd for 12 years (so not able to have cats with her being aggressive) and when she finally passed a few years ago, I swore no more big dogs and I would have a nice cat again since we moved from a house to an apartment. I just had to wait for my little man to get old enough to be able to handle a cat properly. I considered a shelter or rescue cat, but again, I was looking for a specific personality and that's not easy to do with shelter cats when you're not sure of where they were brought in from, what types of trauma or mishandling they had or what their personality will be like around a child. Some cats just really can't tolerate kids or get mean. Trust me, my husband gave me no end of grief about getting a purebred cat, but I stuck to my guns and I'm happy with my decision, he's wonderful.

envoy 11th Nov 2012 6:47 PM

Oh, no worries. I believe in finding the best animal that suits your life, whether they're from a shelter or a breeder. Either way they still need a loving home, right?

Well said, envoy. I couldn't agree more. My dogs are from breeders, but my cat is from a shelter. My mom's dog, who I helped pick out, is also from a shelter. It's such a personal decision, you know?

@Envie- That video is making me want a ragdoll now! I loved the part when that person picked up the kitten, and she just went limp in his hand. SO cute!

Oh he's gorgeous! *wonders if I could make one for my simmies*

Although, 5 hours drive sounds an awful long way to go to me (it takes me 7 hours by train to go almost the entire length of the country to see my boyfriend!)

Yeah, the drive was long, but we had fun and ate some Cajun food and had beignet for breakfast in Lake Charles Louisiana haha.

There's a ragdoll breed in the cat CAS - I think envoy's "Mist" in her Snow legacy may be the default one, which looks a lot like my kitten's mama, a blue/cream bi-color. Mine will get much darker as he ages until by about 2 years he'll be a lovely dark chocolate color with white chest, legs and his V shaped face marking. There's a couple of them in that video with his markings.

owl_face 11th Nov 2012 10:34 PM

Hey everyone! I'm about to start this challenge (finally! I've been meaning to do it forever), and I have a question. I rolled to play a journalist (thinking of naming her Daisy Drive) for my first generation--am I allowed to write novels in order to increase my writing skill, or is that against the rules since it earns money outside my career?

CeliaJ 11th Nov 2012 10:51 PM

This looks really fun! I might try it later :]

calisims 11th Nov 2012 10:56 PM

Welcome owl face and Celia!

For the journalist, you cannot write novels, but you can write articles, which is an option only available to journalists. They work kind of like novels, you get paid royalties for them. But, they pay less in royalties and are faster to write. If you get an Opportunity that involves writing novels, you can do that, too.

NutsAndDolts 11th Nov 2012 11:04 PM

You can write novels if you get an opportunity asking you to, though.

Thanks! Writing just articles makes sense. I was worried I wouldn't be able to write anything and I would just have my sim pounding out words at the computer for nothing.

CeliaJ 11th Nov 2012 11:52 PM

I rolled single with double 'help' and five children, I can move out offspring that aren't the heirs once they hit y/a or do I have to keep them until the heir takes over? Sorry if this is a dumb question lol

calisims 12th Nov 2012 12:07 AM

The offspring that aren't heirs have to move out when they reach YA (unless the next generation has a roll for 'help' and you plan to use an older sibling as help, that's the only way you'd need to keep a spare around after reaching YA).
No questions are dumb questions, this challenge has lots of rules and it can be hard to take it all in. Feel free to ask anything.

CeliaJ 12th Nov 2012 12:24 AM

Okay, thank you Cali!

ReyaD 12th Nov 2012 12:49 AM

We were all beginners once!

Just got back into the country from my trip. Great Wolf Lodge was amazing, even though the number of kids was terrifying. If you have kids or younger siblings I really suggest considering it for a family vacation.

I be tired now...

CyyKosis 12th Nov 2012 3:11 AM

That is quite the awesome resort, my family used to switch between that and the Kalahari whenever we'd go on a mini-vacation. Since I moved away for college I haven't been back... going on 4 years now so I'm totally jealous.

Hi I am new to challenges. I did try a regular legacy once but I didn't make it to 10 generations before something blew up my save file! I would love to try this challenge. I'm trying a wimpy version of it at the moment I must admit. I only rolled for the first 4 categories and then a generation goal. I hope that is ok.

Buckley 12th Nov 2012 7:34 AM

Hi pageybear. Welcome to the challenge! So which categories did you not roll for? The miscellaneous fun one? Strictly speaking, you're not supposed to skip a category, but we don't keep score or anything. It's your game, so do whatever is most comfortable/fun for you. However, I must say that once you get more familiar with the challenge and the rules, you should definitely try the miscellaneous fun roll. Some of them are actually really easy, and all of them all super fun imo. Good luck with your legacy, and don't hesitate to keep us updated! We love to see what's happening in other people's games. (Or at least I do, lol.)

pageybear 12th Nov 2012 7:55 AM

Thanks Buckley! Yes I did skip that one, maybe I will roll and see if its not too scary!! So far I have:

Couple, 3 kids, culinary, journalism, perfect children.

ReyaD 12th Nov 2012 7:57 AM

I hate being sick. I can barely see straight, but I managed to write anyway so here's an update. If there are typos and mistakes... I probably won't fix them later. : P TO BED!

I friggin love Topaz. And Nalin is just <3.

Belated gorgeous kitty squees! I rather like the name Addison. Does that make me pretentious? :p

elly001 12th Nov 2012 4:02 PM

Hi, I'm just starting out with the Random Legacy challenge (finally got a laptop that can handle the game the way I need it to be handled!) and I have a couple of questions which I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me with!

First of all, my first gen sim's spouse has gardening/nectar making as her career option. Once she dies, will another sim be able to take over her garden (if there's someone available to do so) provided they're not selling the produce? I assume yes but obviously they'll be benefiting from a lot of perfect-standard produce which does make the game a bit easier in terms of moodlets and opportunities.

Secondly, I've rolled for my second generation (not yet on it yet) and the primary career is firefighter and the secondary career is movie director. Does the person with the primary career have to be the legacy heir or can I basically choose what the heir and what the spouse does? So if I wanted the spouse to be the firefighter and the heir to be the movie director, is that allowed? Also, a bit off-topic, but if anyone knows of any 'in keeping with the atmosphere' movie lot downloads and fire station lot downloads suitable for Appaloosa Plains, please recommend me, as I'm a terrible builder!

Sorry if these have already been asked, this is such a long thread that I haven't been able to read it all!

CyyKosis 12th Nov 2012 4:24 PM

Welcome to the challenge Elly! In regards to your first question: yes, the decedents of your legacy are allowed to tend the garden as long as they do not profit from it, and future farmers are also allowed to use the same plants... they just can't sell the already harvested produce.

Unfortunately your primary/secondary careers can't be switched, I asked that once upon a time

calisims 12th Nov 2012 4:51 PM

Welcome to the challenge, Elly.
For lots to fit Appaloosa Plains, try here. There are a few fire stations there that would look good:

PSDuckie 12th Nov 2012 5:07 PM

Welcome Elly! I hope you have fun!

I actually have two things to say this time.

First, I'm uploading videos of my gameplay for the first 5 chapters of my legacy to YouTube. I'll give the link once they're up. Second, now that my computer and I are reunited (that's the downside of having a 40-pound desktop), I'll be able to work some more on writing chapter 6! The gameplay is done and recorded; I just have to extract the pictures and write the chapter.

EDIT: The videos are up! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?li...1q&feature=plcp

Thank you! That's good to know, I was having palpatations at the thought of losing my lovely garden.

Thanks for the advice re: careers. It doesn't matter too much but as my misc. fun roll for the second gen. was 'No Strangers', I wanted to get round the whole no babysitter thing by having one of the parents start their career later, and if I had a female heir I would prefer it to be her due to the fact that she'd be missing work anyway due to maternity leave. But hopefully the grandparents will be around for long enough to look after the babies until they turn into children, anyway, and they're only going to be having two, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The first generation rolled for four kids; they've only had two so far, and in their tiny little house with a dad in law enforcement and a mum focused on growing a perfect garden, my adult sims are perpetually exhausted!

And thank you for the rec, calisims. Looks like there are some great downloads on there so I'll have a closer look tonight.

Also, more of a confession than a question: my misc. fun for gen 1 was 'It's So YOU': I didn't really put two and two together when I first started out, but my heir started out as a YA, which is when you're meant to give the house its makeover. So I redesigned it when he turned into an adult. Do people generally think this is acceptable or have I failed the challenge already!

Oh, one more thing (sorry!), if the grandparents are staying in the house once the new heir has grown into a YA, do they need to quit their jobs or are they allowed to continue? I guess they'll have to quit but I figured I better check!

Haha thanks Tamlyn, I guess its not so much pretentious as it is not really fitting to the mooshy lovebug that he is. I guess I'm the typical cat mommy who goes for silly cutsie names instead of stately elegant ones.

Speaking of naming pets, I'm so glad I changed the option in Twallan's SP to allow me to rename all newborns because it doesn't seem like EA gave the pet pool a very large name database. My townies pets were always ending up with pets with the same names or repeated names way too often. Anyone else notice that? I also don't like the random names often given (Cecil? Brandie?) to townies so I have the mod prompt me to rename them.

Welcome more new people trying the legacy, lots of good questions. Ella you asked almost as many as I did, don't feel like you're asking too much, everyone here is very helpful!

Yay for starting your legacy in Appaloosa Plains too, that's where my first generation took place if you want to read mine, its only on Gen. 2, I'm slow at putting my updates out and spent 20 chapters just on the first generation hah. My founder's wife was also rolled gardner/nectar maker and they also had the 'no strangers' roll for misc. fun. It was quite a great set of rolls and made my story funny because I chose to make my founder neurotic and frugal and eco friendly for his 'living green' roll.
