Some content can be like a parasite. It will attach itself to a file if it should be part of it or not. If you are going to download fom the Exchange then make sure to always run it through CUSTARD so that you can see what's actually in it.

Everything with .sims3package extension is evil. Simple.

Files inside a sims3pack is package-files, so they was corrupt even before some one made it a sims3pack.

My point here: Is that the orginal creator of the content made misstake/s when creating it, so no matter what format it is in, it will still be corrupt.

Simmers that have been playing for some time might remember about a certain doll...
Now there we can talk about "real evil" content, it attached it self to items and "infected" ones save files.

apostf 26th Jul 2012 11:56 PM

Of course you're right, I wasn't being serious about the evil s3p files, hehe. I just guess that this extension is the first one that comes to my mind when thinking about the most problematic CC - custom worlds, TSR/exchange files etc. Not to mention the fact that it can't be organised in any logical way - I hate using launcher to manage CC, keeping it in proper subfolders is a must for me. *OCD*

And yes, I remember that creepy doll thing there's even a thread on GoS about it. I don't even understand how one could create such content by accident.

Granthes's CCMagic will let you organize both sims3packs and packages without even worrying about the difference between them... and auto-merge them for better performance. Works as a launcher replacement. Recommended for the OCD simmer

I have another stupid question. I was wondering, I have tons a of custom CAS Sliders for my Sim for example Jonha's. If I took some of them out does my sim automatically snap back to the default position the next time I start the game, or does the Sim maintain the custom slider features like his waist slider until I mess with one CAS slider?

The settings are maintained until you take the sim back into CAS and tweak one slider.

Don Babilon 27th Jul 2012 2:53 PM

I think this only applies to modified existing sliders, no? Not to sliders that change new body areas, like pointy ears. At least I remember when I had played a Sim with extended shoulder slider settings without the sliders installed he had become a skinny wimp right on loadup.

Um...Say i wanted to have a world or small island where there is only one sex. Is it possible to control the births of NPC's so that they only give birth to boys (or girls)?

Yes, if you don't mind using a mod. Twallan's MasterController has a function that lets you choose the sex of the baby when a Sim is pregnant. I use it all of the time when a parent rolls a want for a certain sex for their baby.

Would it be any "funner" if I began to play with a shorter lifespan and with cheats? Before, I would play giving myself a challenge, extending the game as much as possible by working. And now, after always realizing how much of the day I've lost, I really just want some quirky, pick-up-and-play, fun.

I would always just spend time building my Sims' skills and attempting to reach their LTWs, and never have time to actually use the things I don't realize existed until I find out about them. I have all the EPs except for Showtime, but I have yet to fully explore what each of them are capable of.

Perhaps I already know the answer to my own question - but, then again, I'm always seeking the internet for approval before I make decisions so..

The Internet approves. Go and enjoy the game.

What what happens when you download a world that requires expansions that do not?
I have Ambitions, Generationas and Pets, and I want this world http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail...assetId=6142798 #

It working? Crashed Game?

It might be that it won't even install and if it does, yes, depending on what is used from every expansion all sorts of things can happen.

Kniga 29th Jul 2012 12:18 PM

ok install be ok, create new game too, but i have some worry about this.. so I use worl, that nee only base game... But when I use this base game world what about wild animal (horse) or small pets an rock an bugs from expansion? what about scraps....?

Wild animals will appear, rocks and insects from expansions only if they were added to the base game spawners (fireflies, yes; plasma fruit seeds, yes,; starfish, yes; spiders, termites and will-o-the-wisps, no; fluorite, carbon steel, no), scrap does not spawn in the wild anyway, you'll have to add a junkyard, but scrap can also be found when rummaging through trashcans.

Has anyone managed to figure out how to obtain the new time-sensitive Spring Training achievement?
It's available until August 12th but the description doesn't really help with knowing what to do for it.
It doesn't show, for me at least, in the in-game dashboard either.

Anyone use this mod (Investable Fire Station, Salon, Junkyards, Small Parks, Pet Store + ST Lots) and know if it still works with the latest patch? I don't want to install it (this is not a request for it to be updated) and bork my game after having to reinstall everything very recently.

Solution to that would be to test it in a new game... place to ask would be the mod's download thread though

My Sims repeatedly wish to be cured by a unicorn? But cured of what? I understand the wish to be blessed but not the wish to be cured.
Also I read about the "Moonlit Unicorn" moodlet, but so far I have never seen this in game. What are the requirements?

I saw that once, and I figured it meant being cured of turning into a mummy (2 days after losing a fight with a mummy), or cured of turning into a vampire two days after being bitten. Those are only assumptions, though.

It's possible to do if you use a mod for it. There is one here which will do it:

you could also use Master Controller, and edit the outfit to anything you like, as well

Unicorns can cure fleas (sim and pet), vampire bites, and mummy's curses. It's a separate interaction from Bless, and should specifically say cure. I believe you have to be the one controlling the unicorn to make it happen.

As for Moonlit, if you have your graphics settings turned up, unicorns glow at night. But with some coat colors it's just not very visible. Look at a white one to see what I mean. Anyway, unicorns get the Moonlit Unicorn moodlet when that happens.

Hm, I've got 4 unicorns - 3 adopted, 1 born in-game - they all glow, always, but no moodlet. The glow is a bit similar to that of vampires.

Zokugai 3rd Aug 2012 11:24 PM

From what I've read, they "sometimes" get it. I don't know how often sometimes is.

Out of curiosity since you have so many adopted, have you seen more than just white, light grey, or black as a spawn in the wild? That's all I've ever gotten.

Two were black (I recoloured one of them), the other two are light grey, although it looks more creamy than grey (RGB code is 156, 148, 130). But I think these three colours are the only ones you get.

And as regards the moodlet, sometimes seems to be never in my case, as one of them is out in the open 24/7, unless this is something that will require the moon phases of Supernatural.

Menaceman44 4th Aug 2012 8:15 PM

Does anyone know what happened to this chin up bar from the first Showtime trailer?

Seems as though it got replaced with the free standing version we have now. I was hoping it was just locked away in the files somewhere but I can't find it and if it's incomplete in bits, I have no idea how to piece it together again.

Yeah, I just recolor them, too.

Dunno, I know for a fact I get that moodlet regularly. You aren't missing anything though, there's no mood change effect on it. I've always thought it was pointless unless it was actually required for the glow to work, but if from what you say that's not the case...I really wouldn't worry about it, it makes zero difference.

Didn't that trailer also show them doing one-handed chin ups? I was kinda hoping for that wall hanging one myself.

I think I saw that. If it's the one I'm thinking of then the creator just took the free standing version we already have and remeshed it by removing the legs and adding wall fixings.
I didn't quite like the look of it compered to the Trailer version.

As for the one armed pull-ups, ButchSims, I thought Sims could still do them. I swear my sim with high athletic skill has done some. Maybe not?

I've never seen mine do them, and that was with a level 10 athletic skill, and exclusively working out on the chin-up bar when training to be a master acrobat. Maybe it has to do with other traits? like Daredevil or something? Or only if it's in a gym? I dunno.

Do the vaccination opportunities for doctors ALWAYS occur at the exact time when they need to be at work? It's either go vaccinate in the park and lose work performance, or go to work and never do the extra challenge. Stupid. Apparently you can do the challenge later on, but by the time my Sim leaves the hospital the the opportunity is over.

I hear you, it happens to me too when I'm in the Film Career and have to get food from places and stuff like that, I also lose job performance. How is it supposed to work, anyway?

If it's a work assignment, you won't (or shouldn't) lose job performance for doing it. My sims don't, anyway. Just have to not confuse it with a celebrity or other opportunity.

coltraz 6th Aug 2012 5:51 AM

Hmm. I thought my Sim lost performance the couple times I sent her to do it. That's why I stopped. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to look again.

Another question though: Is there some way to transfer entire outfits to another category? Now that you need to dress your Sims for work, I'd like to just transfer his everyday clothes into his work clothes category.

ETA: And another - is there a way to STOP a Sim from continuously using a car that doesn't belong to him? Every time I go to command Bud to drive somewhere, his brother is somewhere with his car. I don't want his brother using his car. It's not his.

Cars belong to the lot, not the sim, even if you associate a sim with a preferred car. Any sim in the household that can drive. and does not have a preferred car, will take whatever is available on the lot if you send them someplace. If you have several cars, it seems they will always choose the fastest car available.

You could always put it in you inventory.

About the doctor opportunities: Mine don't gain performance while they're at the event....but completing the event fills their promotion bar 100%, and leaves them enough time to get to work at the end of it. Which means on days I get them, I'm guaranteed a promotion. SO DO THEM.

(presuming of course I'm not glitched)

Hm, neat. My Sim went to work and I noticed an opportunity at the criminal HQ to "patch up criminals", or something. Left work, did the opportunity, went back to work, and promotion. Thanks! Dunno why I thought my performance decreased.

ETA: Oof...second attempt had me "Missing work!" Who knows.

Menaceman44 6th Aug 2012 4:54 PM

As far as I know, the game will consider a Sim to be "missing work" whilst traveling to and from a work related mission, but should consider them to be at work whilst performing said mission. I've not actually taken that much notice before.

Zokugai 6th Aug 2012 8:21 PM

I *have* had all kinds of trouble with the film opportunities. Even when I complete them I don't get credit. So I don't bother with those.

But I absolutely live for the doctor ones.

In fact, excuse me while I go make a doctorsim...

TheLB 6th Aug 2012 10:51 PM

Are there no occults in Lucky Palms? What's up with that? I've been trying to find a vampire forever and I finally just gave up and mastercontroller'd it.

Also I've only seen one celebrity. Will SP autonomously create celebrities, or do I also have to do that one manually?

Zokugai 7th Aug 2012 2:08 AM

SP should but it'll take some time. With the Twallan mods, you get celeb points for stuff like reaching the top of (or a high level in) your career.

Might just be best to MC in one highlevel celeb and let him/her "infect" the others the same way MCing in one vampire would.

So, I have a question for the list. Has anyone seen any of those gaping holes in the routing paint (a la Bridgeport) in Lucky Palms? Or anything else causing massive lag, like the stupid gym layout in Starlight Shores? I'd like to know what nightmares I'll have to deal with before I dive in.

I've been playing Lucky Palms for a while, and haven't noticed anything wrong with it. No notorious lots yet. I haven't had the opportunity to look at the routing paint, but eh, the routing is above average I think. I've had to reset everything once. It's not as smooth as say, Sunset Valley in my experience, but it's not as terrible as Shang Simla.

Although I think I remember reading in the Lucky Palms thread that there's some weirdness with the lots on the dock, as in they don't snap to the road perfectly or something like that, so it causes some routing issues.

Don Babilon 7th Aug 2012 9:39 AM

There are some tight spots on lots, but nothing major I have noticed so far
(1) The police station RH is too close to the street and on a foundation that can only be accessed from the sides, but Sims working there insist on entering it from the front, so they congregate in the narrow patch in front of the foundation among the plants and may take a while for untangling, especially as by-passers insist on walking through that narrow patch, too.
(2) The diner RH is on a foundation, too, but it is not deep enough for the distance needed for Sims to properly enter the diner, and this may cause traffic jams on the landing of the stairs on busy days.
(3) Sims can get stuck among the plants that surround the hangout in the centre of town.
(4) The bathroom doors at the pool lot in the deserted part of the world are placed such that Sims have trouble entering if another Sim already uses the first toilet stall.Shifting the doors one tile to the left or right, respectively, fixes that.
(5) I don't know why but my Sims sometimes insist on walking to the bistro lot instead of driving there.

Zokugai 7th Aug 2012 10:25 AM

Thanks, Babele, that's exactly what I was looking for. Just wanted to know what I'd need to fix.

Also what genius decided it was a good idea to put RHs on foundations? Seriously, EA...

Hm, quite a lot of rabbitholes are on foundations in EA worlds, it's just that in LP they are too small.
They may have also been used that much perhaps to prevent this from happening:

Probably just told my Sim one of those "A horse walks into a bar" jokes.

Zokugai 7th Aug 2012 7:26 PM

You know what else would have stopped that from happening?

Not letting horses go in doors.

Well, it was already there when my Sim arrived and made a very long face... because, obviously, it finally realised that it could not get out through that narrow door in the background and began to wonder how on earth it managed to get in then.

Won't help. I've seen them go through walls. I had a horse playing with the ghost foal, ? Singleton. When the ghost ran through the wall into the living room, the horse followed. Then, it was either tear down a wall (too lazy) or resetsim and hope the "safe" location was outside the house. resetsim won.

Zokugai 9th Aug 2012 8:46 PM

Eskie: the ghost foal is Glint 2.0 (as compared to Glint 3.0, the adult still living).

And yeah, there's something screwed up with the horse animations. Anything along the lines of playing chase or running a jumping circuit or (I think) playing with the horse ball makes them clip through whatever structures are around them. And if the animation ends while they're still inside the structure...they get stuck.

So I have this sim made with a generous amount of slider mods like AM to increase the slider range, the chin width, and a *cough* dong slider *cough*.
What would happen if I decide to share this sim? Will it lose its "extra appendage"? (ouch)
Will the sliders value automagically decrease to the normal range, will its pretty face remain, or do I need to manually normalize it?

Ha, now I understand why Dong Huo (a WA adventure) is always censored at the official forum .

But to answer your question: AFAIK increased slider settings will stay, but as soon as you try to change them without the same settings they will snap back to default values. Things done with extra sliders, on the other hand, will disappear if you don't have those sliders, too.

Zokugai 10th Aug 2012 6:10 AM

Someone posted a sim the other day who appeared to be made with a chin slider they didn't have, and the chin looked completely different without it, so I'd say that sounds pretty accurate.

Late Night. Pretty much if there's a club or bar with a piano in, one is generated to play it.

I don't think so. I believe they have to be in the profession to have the related interactions available.

Aren't they skills, though? The career is required to begin learning the skills, but after that, I'd imagine it's still hooked to the sim.

There are career skills, but the ability to "perform" the skill requires you to be in that career. So a level 10 (skilled) singer cannot perform on a stage unless "enrolled" as a singer, or a level 10 magician cannot perform a trick unless in that career.

Don Babilon 12th Aug 2012 11:37 PM

That's one of the things about Showtime that I don't understand at all, why have a hidden career skill when it is totally useless once you quit that career? Genies start with a maxed out magician career skill once they're born but can do naught with it unless they enter that profession. And why have those undeletable props that will clutter up your inventory when you quit because you cannot use them anymore either. Maybe these things are security handles for Simport?

Can you follow one career branch, then quit and join the other?

Yes. You'll usually have to start over from job level 1, though.

Actually you can bypass the actual calling your work to quit part by just taking the new job, it'll prompt you to quit the old one when you choose it.

Thanks! Does this still apply if you've reached the top of the first career branch?

It does, yes. The only time you might get to start a new job at a higher level is when you get the pop-up saying something like, "The crime lab could use someone with your skills. Do you want to quit your current job and start at level 3 in the police career?"

And, I think, when you re-join a previous career.

That's so weird, babies are immune to dying (I'm pretty sure...). Maybe a mod's giving you problems?

Anyway, yet another question. I'm not usually such a noob, lol. How is the amount added to the family funds when you get married calculated?

RoseCity 15th Aug 2012 6:41 PM

Is there a way to turn off wild horses, so they don't spawn or whatever it is they do?

I had a sim who had a part time job at the theater (courtesy of Twallan's career mod with part-time options) marry my active sim. Since there was no way he was allowed to work just part-time, I made him a musician. Voila, he entered level 4. It seemed to count as entering a previous career.

As far as I know, babies can't die. Unsure about toddlers. It must be a bug, or conflicting mods.

There won't be an official way to do this until Supernatural is released. As for unofficial ways, I have no idea, sorry.

RoseCity 16th Aug 2012 12:59 AM

^ Thanks anyway. I'm playing Jericho (thanks, simsample! [I mean thank you for the wonderful town, not the stuck horses!]) and experiencing stuck horses. Would just love to get rid of them completely. But Supernatural isn't far off.

Twallan's Register mod allows you to control the number of wild horses and stray animals in a world. It can do a lot of other stuff too, so you might want to read the interactions page before downloading it.

RoseCity 16th Aug 2012 2:01 AM

Thanks! - I'll try that.

you're correct, sorry i misspoke, i meant toddlers! either way i'm now not even getting toddlers to come for me to care for. I'm not current on the latest patch, but neither are my mods. i figured i'd wait until supernatural and patch all at once.

pinkfishegg 16th Aug 2012 3:20 PM

Is there a way to take photos in game and use them in the Graham's digital picture frames other than using the cellphone? I only have two sims in my household and i want to take pictures of them together to hang on their walls.

Ive 16th Aug 2012 5:19 PM

You can take pictures with the cameras. It comes with World Adventures and can be bought in the WA worlds or using the buy debug cheat

There are 3 of them.

I think that's a function of the mod:

"Contains custom part-time careers that provide skills useful in later careers"

If a child is taken away from the family, will other sims be able to adopt that child like it was in TS2?
And will the family tree stay intact (doubt so)?

And em, why does it says x thanks in 4 posts? I only have three and have only ever had 3!

It shows 3 posts to me. Maybe a minor database glitch. Websites can be quirky like that.

Ive 20th Aug 2012 12:21 PM

Yea, has gone back to 3 now.

K, here's a stupid question: When a Sim receives a phone call from a friend asking to hang out, sometimes they can respond "I'll come over" while others the response is "at my place". Now, I'm pretty sure I figured out the reason for the different responses but my question is Will your Sim autonomously go visit their friend after responding "I'll come over" or does it have to be user-directed? And if responding "at my place", does the friend then actually come over?

Nope. It's an empty response. Although some folks have reported that if you respond "No, thanks" you get a negative hit on their relationship, I've never noticed it (never looked that close, anyway), so I always respond yes, even though I know they won't get together.

OTOH, sometimes I'll get "so-and-so would like to bring their child over to play with yours", and if you respond yes, they will show up. Usually works out fine as the kids play together, while the parents get a chance to fool around and cheat on their spouses.

Why would google be bugged by this?.

Nysha 23rd Aug 2012 12:39 PM

When we were moving servers last night we had some problems which resulted in the homepage looking like that, and evidently Google updated their preview for the site at the same time. The bug is fixed now, so Google's preview will be back to normal next time they update it.

vhanster 24th Aug 2012 11:09 AM

Is it just me, or is it impossible for human Sims to discover their pets' traits? My Sim is a cat lover and is already BFF with her cat, but she knows absolutely none of its trait.

I know that knowing animal traits are irrelevant in relationship building with them, but still.

MsScribble 29th Aug 2012 11:00 AM

I never bother choosing an astrological sign for my sims - do different signs make any changes to their behaviours?

Also, can unicorns and horses breed?

Shimrod101 29th Aug 2012 12:17 PM

Unicorns and horses can breed, yes.
I don't think the astrological sign alters their behavior in any way, I think it only gives that notification about being compatible with the other sim.

Mera Benzema 29th Aug 2012 3:48 PM

I heard in another topic that sims can put photos on refrigerator. Is it true? If yes, How?

Menaceman44 31st Aug 2012 11:15 PM

If I want to include Chinese text in an object I convert from Sims 2, would I use Traditional or Simplified?

Nalia 1st Sep 2012 12:24 AM

Simplified might be better for addressing a broader audience, although people from mainland China might a raise an eyebrow.

Simplified characters are used primarily in Mainland China (PRC -- it was an initiative of Chairman Mao to broaden literacy), whereas traditional characters are used primarily in Taiwan (ROC). Traditional ones are the older versions; they have more strokes. Up to you though :p

You can put any picture on a fridge with moveobjects on... think it'll stay there if you open the door though.

Menaceman44 1st Sep 2012 5:46 PM

Thanks very much, I think I'll go with Simplified then if I ever get the object working as intended.

New stupid question now. If I uninstall an official EA Store world, will the objects that came with it be uninstalled as well?

vhanster 5th Sep 2012 10:14 AM

Yes it will, unless you have downloaded and installed them separately

I do have a question about CAS though. The new CAS setting allows you to "lock" your Sims' hair and make up so that it would be used for all clothing. Is it possible to do the same to accessories?
