Dana | Hallways

Giving Dana a weird look, he replied, “Oh yeah I don’t have math this year! Yes! Freedom!”

“Well I guess you have a free period then," Dana said. "Lucky Bastard."

"I heard that!" he said, sticking his tongue out. Dana laughed, as they continued walking down the hallway. “Plus I don’t have any free time. I’m using this ‘class’ to study Islamic and Arabic studies. Seeing as how this school doesn’t provide it. I’ll be in the Library, using one of the computers," Essa replied, waving back at her,

She did the same, then continued her way to math class. Oh great, she thought. Another period with Georgina. Hopefully she would be able to talk to some other people so Georgina wouldn't get on her nerves so much

trampledsneakers 2nd Aug 2007 4:02 AM

"What the hell are you doing?"

Even though she shouldn't have been surprised by such a response, it wasn't exactly the reaction she had anticipated. J.D. really could be bipolar, that was certain. Her eyes skimmed the hallway and caught sight of a dark head of hair bobbing away from them, and her expression softened. 'Albie,' she thought with remorse, feeling the urge to run after him to apologize, but the slender boy was away and out of her sight in a few moments.

Returning her emerald gaze to J.D., her lively expression faded into a pout. Her hands fell to her hips and she shook her head.

"Well, aren't you a killjoy. I was just rejoicing in our award-winning performance, but nevermind." She bowed elegantly to him, as if exiting a stage, and breezed by, heading in the direction of their math class. "I happen to like your name, not that it matters," she murmured over her shoulder, just loud enough for him to hear if he listened.

J.D. & Lila

(((ooc: Ha! Bi polar probably doesn't even BEGIN to describe it! *s*)))

"Well, aren't you a killjoy", Lila complained, hands on her hips. "I was just rejoicing in our award-winning performance, but nevermind."

J.D. simply looked at her, the scowl slowly fading from his face.
Oh. That. He'd completely forgotten about that. The smile on her lips as she heard his full name had given him other things to think about.
But before he was able to say anything, she gave an elegant bow and then brushed past him, heading for the next class.

J.D. took a few steps after her, wanting to somehow stop her and explain. It hadn't been his intention to ruin her good mood once again, and he felt another apology coming on. What was it about her that made him feel bad about being, well, bad? She'd made a good point when she said she'd heard him say "sorry" more times in the past 24 hours than he had done over the past few years. And she'd teased him about it, even though it hadn't been in a mean way. Which was probably why it got to him in the first place.
It all made him want to fight the urge to apologize to her, again. He wouldn't give her another reason to give him a hard time about being a "nice guy".

"I happen to like your name", she murmered , turning her head slightly as she walked so that he would hear her. "Not that it matters".

Instantly J.D. scowled once again. Okay. That was it. The weak moment of wanting to apologize had passed, and he set off after her, his long strides allowing him to catch up with her within seconds. Gripping her arm firmly he forced her to stop and turn around, and he stared her dead in the eyes.
"My name is J.D.", he growled. "Nothing else. Make sure you remember that."

trampledsneakers 2nd Aug 2007 5:05 AM

((No kidding! xD He's like a whirlwind! Not that Lila's very stable herself. ))

The swift movement of footsteps didn't concern her. Either J.D. was following her, or someone else was in a grave rush to make it to math class. She didn't even flinch, didn't even turn to see who it was that was drawing so close to her. It was the grasp on her slender arm, however, that snapped her vision backwards and startled her heartbeat into a tremor. Without a choice, her face had been redirected backwards by the pull of J.D.'s arm.

Shock fanned across her face like blood seeping into water. It was concentrated at her eyes, but slowly drifted elsewhere. A furrowed brow, downturned lips. A hurt expression seemed to filter in with the surprise, and she felt her stomach lurch. He was strong. Why hadn't she been more aware of that? She knew he was tough. Knew he was probably the toughest kid in the school; so why was it she had been oblivious to his sheer strength? Why hadn't she been more threatened by him, when he could so easily overpower her as he did now? It all suddenly struck her, just as quickly and effortlessly as it had taken J.D. to seize upon her and stop her dead in her tracks.

"My name is J.D.", he said ferociously. "Nothing else. Make sure you remember that."

Lila's mouth snapped shut and she shook her head, eyes narrowing. This was J.D., she reminded herself. Yes, he was frightening. But she was not scared of him. With a quick flick of her wrist, she snapped her arm free from his grasp, and brought it to her other hand, gingerly touching where he had taken hold of her.

"Fine, J.D. I'll make sure to remember that your name isn't John." Her voice was deadly quiet, devoid of it's usual warmth and emotion. "My name is Lila, and I don't want to be late for my next class." She forced the corners of her mouth to curve slightly into a forced smile, and she bowed her head into a nod. She knew that saying his name was probably a threat upon her well-being, but just like J.D., she had her own angry streak as he had seen in her the first time they met. As forgiving and polite as she could be, she wasn't about to let him walk all over her.

AtropaMandragora 2nd Aug 2007 2:54 PM

J.D. - hallway

Much to J.D.'s surprise, this time him hissing at her didn't seem to make Lila even flinch. She'd been startled at first, but that seemed to have more to do with the abruptness of his action rather than it's nature.
Instead, her eyes now narrowed and she jerked her arm free of his firm grip.

"Fine, J.D." she almost snapped. "I'll make sure to remember that your name isn't John."

It was a bold comment, that made J.D.'s upper lip curl in a wordless snarl, making him seem almost like a vicious animal about to attack. But he didn't make a move. Instead, his jaws tightened, as if he was trying to control his temper. It was odd. Even now, when flat out provoked, he still didn't seem to want to rough her up. Or maybe more like he really did want to, but couldn't bring himself to do it.

"My name is Lila", she continued, her voice cold as ice. "And I don't want to be late for my next class."

A forced smile made it's way onto her lips, and she gave a slight nod, as if about to turn away.

"Fine", J.D. spat. "Go on then".

And with that he spun around, stalking away in the opposite direction without a moment of hesitation. Screw math, and screw school.
Screw her.
Fuming with anger he headed for the exit. He needed to find a place where he could calm down, without running the risk of someone, anyone, showing up to pester him.

(((ooc: He doesn't really hate her. He's just really, really mad at her at the moment, for being able to tease him and tick him off and getting away with it. But somehow I think you knew that already. )))

trampledsneakers 2nd Aug 2007 11:15 PM

((They have quite the volatile relationship, don't they?! xD They're quite different, but quite alike, so it's no surprise that they clash. haha. brilliant.))

"Fine. Go on then".

The words cut through Lila painfully. Why was he being this way? Her face fell, brows knitting together in frustration. She felt her eyes stinging as hot tears began to brim them, glossing them over. Friends didn't treat each other like this. Lila didn't know why his harshness had stung her so; it's not like she had expected him to frown and apologize, telling her that he was wrong and shouldn't have reacted that way. J.D. wasn't a soft-spoken kind of guy. So why did she feel so badly when he gave a look with such anger in his eyes?

As J.D.'s figure grew smaller as he stalked down the hallway and away from her, she felt fury boiling in her veins. Throwing her hands up and stomping her foot in frustration, she roared back at him although she knew he probably wasn't listening any longer.

"Fine! I'm going!" She watched him not turn around, and then weaker, softer, added, "See if I talk to you again..."

With that, she turned and walked away, glancing over her shoulder only once to see J.D. at the exit. Shaking her head, she bit her lip to hold back the scream of anger that was threatening to escape. Reaching the math classroom, she threw the door open, stalked over to an open desk near another girl, and hurled her things onto the flat surface with an angry groan. Slumping into the chair and burying her face in her hands, Lila gritted her teeth. 'Dammit. Dammit, dammit, dammit. Who needs him anyway,' she swore furiously in her mind, trying hard to force back the angry tears that still were building in her eyes.

((ooc: feel free to be the girl, anyone! :] ))

Dana | Math Class

((Sorry for the short post ))

Dana walked over and sat in an open seat she found. Sitting down, she hoped this class would be over soon. She hated math, though she was excellent at it. If her head wasn't in it, then she would start having some problems.

She watched as a girl sat in the desk next to her, throwing her things on her desk and and groaning. She buried her face in her hand, leaving Dana worried. Not knowing what to do, she asked, "Are you okay?" She knew she probably wasn't, but she asked anyway.

((Short posts are fine! hee! Lila hasn't interacted with any girls yet! Yay! And glad to have you back, Gerbera! A lot of people seem to have forgotten about this, so hopefully little by little people will return. ))

"Are you okay?"

The soft feminine voice tugged gently at Lila's ears, coaxing her out from behind the shield of her hands. A kind-looking girl sat beside her, and was eying her with concern. Blinking several times, Lila felt the familiar sting of the hot tears in her eyes, but she quickly brushed them away, shaking her head.

"Not particularly..." a soft giggle slipped through her lips, oddly genuine amidst such angry tears. Her shoulders slackened into a shrug and she turned to face the girl, giving her a nod.

"But thank you for asking. I've just...had some trouble with one of my friends. He's being an *ss. Boys, you know?" she sighed deeply, bottomlessly, and laughed again, wiping new tears from her eyes. "Sorry to burden you like this. I'm usually not this...emotional."

AtropaMandragora 3rd Aug 2007 5:42 PM

J.D. - parking lot

Once outside, J.D. headed for the parking lot and his poor excuse for a car. It looked almost like it would have to be towed, but surprisingly worked just fine. As long as you knew how to handle it. Like any old car, it had it's oddities, and required a few tricks here and there to run.

He kept getting angrier with every step, every second to think about what had just happened. He was mad at Lila for teasing him, for crossing a line she should've known not to, and he was mad at himself for letting her get away with it. And now, having had a few moments to think about it, he was mad for causing a scene like this. He was no stranger to causing scenes, but they never, ever looked like this one. It must've almost seemed like a lover's quarrel to anybody that might've been watching.

It was all so ironic. Half an hour ago he had toyed with the idea of kissing her, and now he felt like strangling her with his bare hands. All because she pushed the wrong button at the worst possible time.

Jerking the car door open he slumped down into the driver's seat, his fingers wrapping themselves tightly around the steering wheel before he suddenly let loose, bashing it a few times just to rid himself of the worst of his anger and frustration. What the hell was wrong with her? Why did she have to keep testing his limits? Why couldn't she just have left well enough alone? After all, he had been far more lenient with her than he would with anyone else. Why wasn't that enough? She just kept pushing him, and pushing him. Of course he'd snap eventually! What did she expect?
But the worst part was, he actually liked her. She was fun and witty, and even though she'd been pushing his limits for how much he could take, she hadn't really been out to get him or make him feel bad.
Or had she?
It wasn't like he knew her very well, so how could he be certain?

As always when he was angry or upset, he felt he needed a cigarette. It usually helped him calm down. He dug into his pockets and pulled out the cigarett pack and his lighter, and within seconds a thin wisp of smoke was curling from his mouth and nose.
However, this time it wasn't enough to soothe his temper.
"Oh, f*ck it", he muttered, throwing the cigarette on the ground and crushing it with his boot, only to then lean over to the glove compartment. He needed something stronger.
Though rummaging around, he soon realized there was nothing, except the small pocket flask containing a few sips of alcohol. It wasn't much, but it would have to do. At least it would take some of the edge off.
Opening the small bottle, he took one swig, and then another, before returning the flask to the glove compartment.
Then, another cigarette, and this time it did the trick. Or maybe it was just the feeling of having done something rebellious, something bad and forbidden, that calmed him down, as if he had just managed to prove to himself that he wasn't the nice guy Lila had insisted he was.

But, with the subsiding anger came the contemplation.
How would he maneuver himself out of this mess? When it all came down to it, he still wanted to be friends with her. He was reluctant to admit it, but he did. She was different from the rest of the crowd he usually hung out with. She didn't expect him to prove himself to be tough and cocky all the time, and she was worlds apart from the usual skanks that begged for his attention. She was comfortable to be around.
When she didn't make him uncomfortable. It was all somewhat of a paradox.
But to approach her after this? No. He doubted he'd be able to bring himself to do that.

(((Gah! Long post. Sorry, but J.D. just keeps taking over. He's one lost, messed up little boy. :disagree: )))

Dana | Math Class

"Not particularly..." the girl said, laughing. She nodded towards Dana. "But thank you for asking. I've just... had some trouble with one of my friends. He's being an *ss. Boys, you know?"

"Believe me, living with two brothers? Trust me, I get it, more than I'd like." Dana thought that this girl was nice, easy to talk to without conflict, she could really get along with her.

The girl laughed, wiping tears from her eyes. Dana was a little worried, she wondered what would make her cry like that.

"Sorry to burden you like this. I'm usually not this...emotional." She understood where she was coming from. Dana wasn't very emotional herself, her dream was to be a columnist when she grew up, and she would have to face the harsh reality of it.

"Oh it's no burden, I'm not very emotional myself. I'm Dana." She extended her hand. "What happened that made you so upset?" Suddenly Dana realized she was being nosy again, and she quickly said, "Unless you don't want to talk about it."

trampledsneakers 3rd Aug 2007 6:48 PM

((ahhh, teen angst at its finest. how fantastic. xD ))

"Believe me, living with two brothers? Trust me, I get it, more than I'd like."

Lila laughed again and gave a nod of understanding. Although she and her brother had always managed to get along somewhat well, they had certainly had their share of conflicts.

"I know exactly what you mean. I have a twin brother, and we used to fight all the time... there's just something programmed in guys that makes them aggressive." She waved a hand through the air and sucked in a breath of air, trying to slow her breathing and calm herself down. It was really unusual for her to get so worked up, especially in school and in front of others--others she barely knew. But this girl seemed understanding and kind, and that was just what she was in desperate need of at the moment.

"Oh it's no burden, I'm not very emotional myself. I'm Dana."

She extended a hand and Lila gratefully shook it, a small but weak smile creeping across her lips.

"Lila," she replied, releasing her hand.

"What happened that made you so upset? Unless you don't want to talk about it."

For a moment she debated whether or not discussing J.D. with someone she barely knew was wise; but then, she had trusted him in only a few hours, so what could make Dana and different? While Lila wasn't about to pour out her soul to her, it would certainly be a slight relief to get some of it off of her chest.

"It's alright. Basically, the long and short of it is that I became friends with this guy who is Mr. Badass, and I'm not enough of a pushover. We were getting along fine, which was odd...but he nearly started a hallway brawl with one of my friends, and then flipped out on me over something really petty...granted I didn't make it any better, and I was antagonizing him, and I should have known when to quit, but honestly! I am not a little child, and I am NOT afraid of him! If he's going to try to scare me into doing exactly as he says just because he's Mr. Big-and-Scary, he's sorrily mistaken. Friends don't nearly bruise friend's arms!"

Lila glanced up, realizing her look of sadness had faded into one of anger and her tears had dried up. Her fists were clenched and she shook her head.

"Sorry. I'm still a little frustrated about it, because I barely know him...and I guess I care what he thinks, or else I would have just flipped him off and walked away without a care. You know what I mean?" Lila gazed at Dana for a moment, then laughed, feeling completely outrageous.
"I'm so sorry. I probably sound like a raving lunatic, just rambling on like that. Didn't mean to unload my nonsense on you."

"I know exactly what you mean. I have a twin brother, and we used to fight all the time... there's just something programmed in guys that makes them aggressive," the girl said.

"Lila," she said, shaking her hand. Dana smiled, and watched as she took in a deep breath of air.

After asking her about what happened, there was a pause between the two. She just hoped she hadn't pushed it just a little too far asking that question. Looking up at the bored, Dana saw that there was a bunch of notes written on the board. Forget the notes, she thought. I'll ask someone for them later. She'd rather talk to someone than do schoolwork.

"It's alright. Basically, the long and short of it is that I became friends with this guy who is Mr. Badass, and I'm not enough of a pushover. Friends don't nearly bruise friend's arms!"

Dana stood there, a little surprised at all that was said. She sat there, staring at Lila, trying to process it all.

"Wow," was all she could say at first. "Well, it sounds like you had an...interesting day." Dana smiled, still not believing all that happened in a day.

"Sorry. I'm still a little frustrated about it, because I barely know him...and I guess I care what he thinks, or else I would have just flipped him off and walked away without a care. You know what I mean?"

"Yeah, I know just how you feel." She really did. She's had her share of boys who sometimes go over the edge, getting all angry over nothing.

"I'm so sorry. I probably sound like a raving lunatic, just rambling on like that. Didn't mean to unload my nonsense on you." Lila laughed.

"It's not nonsense," Dana replied. "It's you being kind enough, to share your feelings with someone."

"Well I thank you for telling me the story, even though you don't know me so well. I've never been a situation like this before, but I think you did the right thing, you can't let people walk all over you, whoever they may be."

Dana was happy that Lila shared this information before. Usually when people told her something she would just blab it out to the world in an article, but Lila was too nice of a person to do that to, besides, she learned her lesson a long time ago.

trampledsneakers 3rd Aug 2007 7:53 PM

I've never been a situation like this before, but I think you did the right thing, you can't let people walk all over you, whoever they may be."

Lila smiled softly. It did feel good to just say those things, vague as they might have been. She couldn't exactly tell J.D. how she felt, but aside from him and Albie, she barely knew anyone else at the school to whom she could divulge her inner feelings. It was a sort of claustrophobic feeling-- knowing that no matter where you turned, you would be stuck with only yourself and your own thoughts. It was a feeling that weighed you down. But luckily, Dana had been a godsend; someone who was willing to listen and at least humor her in a time where she needed an understanding ear.

"Thank you. You've really helped calm me down!" Lila offered her a grateful smile. "But enough about me and my selfish problems. Tell me about you, how your day has been going." She had to lower her voice to a whisper as the teacher began scanning the classroom, but remained slightly disinterested in the class itself.

"Thank you. You've really helped calm me down," she replied smiling.

"But enough about me and my selfish problems. Tell me about you, how your day has been going." Lila started talking in a whisper, leaving Dana confused, until she turned around and saw the teacher looking around.

"My day? So far it's been pretty boring. Nothing but boring classes and boring teachers.

Laughing a little, Dana became quiet as the teacher looked her way, giving her a slight glare. "I did meet the editor of the the school paper, Georgina Briggs."

Rolling her eyes, Dana continued. "She's pretty stuck up, and I don't think she likes me either. But I'm not so peachy-keen about her either. I also met Essa, his a really nice guy, makes me laugh sometimes." Dana smiled, she was happy talkint to Lila about stuff. Didn't matter what, she liked talking to her.

"I just wish the classes weren't so boring. We need someting fun and simple."

Lila listened intently as Dana ran through her own experiences thus far. It felt relaxing to have another girl to talk to--someone she didn't have to constantly feel on edge with. Dana seemed wonderfully laid-back and friendly, and Lila couldn't help but giggle when she mentioned a rough encounter with the editor of the paper.

"Georgina..." she said, thinking carefully. "I haven't met her, but I've heard she can be a bit intense. Very studious, quite antisocial. So maybe it's not you, but her?" Lila laughed softly and shrugged her shoulders, not entirely sure what to think of this Georgina girl. "But Essa sounds nice! It's so good to find a good guy friend that you get along with, because sometimes you just need to get away from girls, you know? They can get pretty catty and just downright annoying. Or they can dislike you, like Georgina," she added the last bit with a light chuckle, jokingly.

"I just wish the classes weren't so boring. We need something fun and simple."

Lila groaned in agreement, rolling her eyes.

"Seriously. I've been bored out of my mind. We need something to do outside academics!"

"Yeah, it probably is her. And she is intense, quite the bragger too." Dana was a bragger herself, but only about her ability to write, nothing else.

Lila shrugged her shoulders as she continued speaking. "But Essa sounds nice! "Kind of like making it educational, but something exciting, like going to an amusment park for physics!" She smiled at the thought, hoping one day that would actually happen.

"I went to an all girl school before this, it was torture. Everyone boy crazy and willing to put the other one down to better themselves, yech!"

Lila's eyes bulged slightly at the thought of an all-girls school. Most of her best friends in the past had been guys; they were just easier to get along with. They were straightforward, and didn't play games with you. At least most of them didn't--her friends never did. Girls had the tendency to stab you in the back; at least when boys took shots at you, they stabbed you in the front.

"I can't even fathom dealing with an environment like that. I would have gone crazy--it's good to see they didn't change you into one of them!"

Hearing Dana's suggestion, Lila nodded fervently in agreement. Going to an amusement park would certainly be a great way to relax.

"Yeah! That's brilliant! Even if it wasn't educational, they should give us some ways to cool down too, you know? At my old school, we were able to go on these ski trips and camping trips. They were really fun," she said with a grin, recalling her first bumbling attempts at skiing.
