Is there a way for one sim to break up a married couple?

The scenario is that Sim A has gotten into a romantic relationship with Sim B, who is married. Can Sim A cause Sim B to divorce? What if this is in WA and Sim B is a foreigner?

AnnaIME 26th Nov 2009 11:36 AM

I was playing WA and when my sim became best friend with one of the locals, she got the option to ask him to break up with his girlfriend. It was one of the friendly interactions.

What you want to delet is the following
scriptCache, simcompositerCache, CASpartCache, comositerCache.
You can also delete the cache from World Cache's. i delete these everytime i play because if i don't then after about an hr or so it will crash to desktop. Cleaning ti out regularly keeps me from having this issue. It is also posted in the forums somewhere.Thats how i found it.

My sim just got promoted to weather girl, and no longer can do interviews. She got a want after that to conduct interview. If she gets promoted past weather girl, will she get the interview and write report options back?
They were my favorite part of the whole journalism career

Sookielee 3rd Dec 2009 7:20 AM

I have seen pics with gems being displayed on little red pillows. Where are these in the game?

I also saw someone post a pic with butterflies in a terrarium. Are these available in the game?

I have the base game and have not bought WA yet. Thing is I have been seeing the red pillows since the release of the game, but I can not find those or the terrarium anywhere in my game. Could someone please enlighten me as to where these items are or if they are cc or from the WA. Thanks

Menaceman44 3rd Dec 2009 12:39 PM

The pillows and butterfly cages come with the base game but are not items that you buy. Once you place a gem in a room you can click on it to change the display between nothing (default), a pillow or a small round stand.

To have a butterfly display in a cage then just drag the butterfly from your Sim's inventory into a room on their lot and it will automatically get put into a cage.

Sookielee 4th Dec 2009 2:54 AM

Thank-you so very much! I can not believe I never once in all my collecting click on a cut gem. I thought that if I pulled the butterflies out of inventory they might fly away, so I would just donate to science, Can't believe I have been missing these thing.

kk_yanz 4th Dec 2009 4:13 AM

i just want to ask, why i cant find Garden Center in Build Mode? or there is another place to buy gardening stuff? thanks...

simbalena 4th Dec 2009 6:16 AM

You mean things like trees and plants? In build mode you just click on the pictures of trees and plants!

There are no dirt plots or greenhouses in TS3, but you can find the sprinkler in small appliances.

kk_yanz 4th Dec 2009 6:54 AM

oh, i see..just curious why theres no garden center in my build mode..thank you..

you know, sometimes my sims will roll wants to see someone married...who already got married.

maybe its a glitch. :/

simbalena 4th Dec 2009 7:20 AM

My sim kept rolling the wish to get her little brother to do her homework. Anyone know how that can be achieved? I couldn't work out how to do it.

When I first got TS3 I spent ages trying to figure out where the gardening plots were. In case this is your issue too- have your sim take a gardening class, and they'll have seeds placed in their inventory. Click on the seeds, and you'll have the option to plant. You can then place the gardening plot anywhere on the grid.

That should have been fixed in one of the many patches.

catvonpaxton 4th Dec 2009 6:00 PM

Major issue that i can not figure out: how do i add paint etc to the ceiling???

I_Love_Simming 4th Dec 2009 6:43 PM

Ive only just started playing this, so these questions may seem stupid.

1. How or where do you go to get new clothes for your sims?
2. Where do you find the soil or whatever to plant some seeds and produce some fruit and veg? I carnt seem to find it in build mode?

And also,

How do you get into a proper realtionship with another sim? i have two sims that live together and are having kids, but thier relationship status is still 'romantic interest' and i carnt figure out how you get them properly commited..

simbalena 5th Dec 2009 2:14 AM

Just go to the dresser and "Plan Outfit". You don't have to buy clothes in TS3. If you don't get the plan outfit option they are wearing work clothes and they have to change into something else before you can plan outfit.

No garden plots in TS3. You just select a seed or fruit/vegetable in your inventory and you get the option to plant it, then just select a spot on the ground (has to be your home lot). You have to build enough garden skill to plant certain things though. The only gardening object is the sprinkler which can be found in small appliances.

Have to do a lot of continuous romantic interactions with eachother until you get the option to "propose go steady", then you get "propose marriage", then you get to "have private wedding" or throw a wedding party.

summersong86 5th Dec 2009 4:31 AM

How can you get a sim to move in with you if you're going steady, but don't want to propose marriage? I want to ask Sherman Bagley to move into our household but the only option his girlfriend seems to get is "Propose Marriage." Well, Sherm is cute and all and I'd get a kick out of having my Sim Sarah rescuing him from his nasty sister and mother, but I don't want her to marry the guy just yet. Can she ask him to move in or am I going to have to get a mutual friend who lives with her to do the asking as a friendly social as opposed to Sarah doing it via a romantic social? I know I can add him via "edit town" and I might, but I'd rather have the fun of asking him to join the household. Playing as his girlfriend Sarah, I've been to his house and his mother and sister are NASTY. LOL. I just love his storyline. Riverview is a blast.

ani_ 5th Dec 2009 7:24 AM

summersong86: The girlfriend should be able to do it, just do lots and lots of friendly social interactions (no flirting) and the option should come.

simbalena: Have you tried leaving the homework on the floor, and then clicking the brother to do it?

Story progression is basically a living town. Sims you are not currently controlling will move out, move in, have kids, die, get married......basically keeping the town an active evolving town.
But, you have to take into consideration that EA's story progression sucks big time, I think the new patches have helped a bit, so households you have played no longer go and move out of town and such. But if you plan to play with story progression, then you should consider an outside hack for it, either awesome or trillian's mod. Thankfully you can always turn this of, if you want more controll to your game.

summersong86 5th Dec 2009 9:15 AM

Thanks so much, Ani! And that's really good advice you gave about Story Progression. Yeah, I agree it sucks. I have it totally turned off in my game and am playing Sims2 style. I think that's one reason I've generally had fewer glitches and oddities going on in my towns than a lot of people. The few times I had it turned on I totally lost track of the people in my town and ended up with a larva (baby) infestation.

I looked on thegame help section and couldn't find it- so I figured this was the best place to post it...

but um, how do I add custom music to my game?

Shimrod101 5th Dec 2009 10:00 PM

In the My Documents\ Electronic Arts you find sims3 and then a folder called Custom Music. There are some mp3 tunes there. If you don't want these tunes on your stereo in the game you can delete them. Put your mp3 tunes in there. In the game you have to use the Custom Music station on the stereo.

What if you don't have mp3 tunes of your own?

Mp3 files are just the custom music files. You can't add custom music without having the custom music. That's why it's custom...

You can download songs on itunes, or upload songs from a CD you own.

I went there and there wasn't a custom music folder. Can I jst make one?

imdvine, there is a mod here that deletes the intro, though im not sure of its compatibility with some of the patches/WA/etc, but you can find it on the last page of the 'game mods' section of the sims 3 downloads, or here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=342922

Thanx, I figured there was a way but I've been looking since I got my game

pandemonium 6th Dec 2009 9:37 PM

Thank you! I probably will have to find a way to get internet in my computer, but I guess I just won't get sims 3 until it gets really cheap and I have a better computer to install it on. I'm too attached to my sims 2 games. :D

You get them in the mail sometimes when you get a gem back from being cut.

Stupid question: One of my Sims achieved her lifetime aspiration and for reward chose the Collection Map, which was awesome. I often play more than one family and when I returned to her family the Collection Map reward had disappeared. Any ideas what may have occurred here?

Mjolnir68 7th Dec 2009 10:54 PM

My stupid question!

Haven't seen this yet.

At some point, the pitch adjustment in CAS quit working. My first thought was a slider mod or any CC, for that matter... but I removed everything and started up clean and I still can't change pitch. It's rather irritating to have the same voice pitches for everybody!

Has anyone else had this happen?

Every time you switch families they lose everything in their inventory.

If you want to keep something you need to place it somewhere on the lot or move it into the family inventory.

I believe you have to change your volume/sound settings probably make them higher, this can be found through the normal options panel while playing the sims 3.

I have no idea how my audio quality got set to Low, but I pulled it back up to High and I've got my vocal range back. I'd have never thought that would affect it. Hooray! Thank you!

Turn off story progression.

Before I go and spend all my sims ltw points on the teleporter reward. I would like to know how does it work? do you click the sim, and teleport, or is it a physical object?

My adventure lady got stuck in a tomb and I thought for the future, I could teleport her out of it, if it happens again.

It's an object you have to place in your house, and it takes 4 tiles or something. Completely useless if you ask me. You teleport somewhere in Sunset Valley with it, and it doesn't go with you, so you have to take the taxi home...

You can "Teleport Home" via an interaction on your cell phone.

Cheers.

Do you have to have the teleporter at home to teleport back to? Or can you just teleport home regardless of what you have or don't have? I more or less dropped this teleporting right away, because my sim generally takes the car somewhere, and he's not planning on going home alone, if you get my drift...

twallan 9th Dec 2009 10:47 PM

The cell phone interaction is linked to the "Teleporter" object, so it drags you back home if you use it.

Honestly, once I have the teleporter reward, I no longer feel its cheating to use the "Teleport Me Here" Shift-Click interaction... So I just use it and ignore the actual object itself.

Cheers.

ani_ 12th Dec 2009 11:49 PM

Thanks for the teleport cheat, didn't know it existed.

I'v noticed that my sims, will forget they know any foreign friends after some time. I don't mind if they drop some random clerck guy, but they loose all their forign contacts. I had to resend one of my ladies to france because her future boyfriend was on the list. When she got to France, she knew him again.

Is this suppose to work like this? that you forget all your foreign contacts after some time? and how much time does it take before you forget? my sim just lost the "was on trip" moodlet and at least now she still remembers them.

Srikandi 13th Dec 2009 12:23 AM

All your relationships deteriorate as time passes. Also, foreigners age when you're in your home hood, and eventually die.

If you want to keep in touch, phone em regularly or invite em over

Every EP breaks some mods and doesn't break others, and it's pretty much impossible to predict ahead of time Always start up your EP with no mods loaded, check for new versions, and put any non-updated mods back with care.

I received and answer from Pescado on MATY so I will go ahead and answer my own question here in case someone else would like to know.

Quote:

I sure hope that someone else alters those data files because I will cause serious harm to them!

Well, if someone ELSE altered the files, you'd be listening to THEIR music. But you know what DOES work? Setting the music to "off" and using Winamp. :P

I have replaced the two tunes which play with the loading screens when you first start the game. Not the intro video music, the two that follow. They are replaced with two tunes from the stereo, one from Electronica and one from the Latin station. It's a mod, like an XML mod, only much simpler. Very easy to make. When you remove the mod the default music returns. I'll do one for Buy mode, one for Build and one for CaS, probably tomorrow. There's no guarantee that you or anyone else will have the same taste as I do, of course; so I may choose in-game tunes that others don't appreciate.

The one I have now is here: http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?board=96.0

I have slowly been rebuilding Riverwiew, which has entailed moving out most of the preexisting families, bulldozing their houses and rebuilding. My question is: will the game automatically regenerate new families, or will I have a ghost town with only my active household and the few families that are left?

Beccapixie10 14th Dec 2009 9:54 AM

i think you'll have a ghost town. they seem to need sims to breed to generate new sims
though i may be wrong, it wouldn't be rare.

It will generate new families and move them in unless you're using a mod of some kind which turns off story progression and immigration. It may take a while before the town fills up though. You can probably force this immigration by doing the careers; the game will create townies to fill the co-workers roles and the boss roles if you take your sims to work there.

Tenielle 14th Dec 2009 10:55 AM

Thanks for your help, Becca & Shimrod- I'm undecided at his point if I'll just let the game regenerate new families, or copy the houses to a new Riverview & put the existing families in them, but at least now I have the option.

This may be a long shot, but could it be possible to create a little program that would allow the simmer to add their own music in there, or would it have to be set in stone? I have a feeling that having Winamp being on in the background might cause some lag on my machine.

I might have to use Shimrod's edit for a while just to switch it up!

uhhh, is there a problem with running winamp and the game at the same time?

I agree. Even though I don't spend as much time in it, I just think music is to Disney-esque and makes me not wanna decorate the house, because after repetitive sounds music gets annoying...

My sim was on a trip and found this quick silver thing (looks like a test tube), does it have any functionality? I haven't sold it becuase I thought it might be needed on some quest, but she's done many quests after finding it but never needed it.

joof 19th Dec 2009 8:41 PM

The wiki says that when you have 3 handiness skill points, you can upgrade the windows to have better insulation, which reduces bills. But when I hover over the window there aren't any interactions available with it. Is this a World Adventures upgrade?

wickedblue 19th Dec 2009 9:06 PM

I think it's awesome that sims will sit on the edge of the tub or the toilet (!) to read the paper if there's no chairs but my question is what makes them choose the edge of the tub even if there's plenty of couches and/or chairs to sit? This one household I play, with 4 adult sims, all choose to sit on the tub to read the paper even though they walk past 4 couches and 6 chairs to get to it. They will even shoo another sim who is using the toilet from the bathroom just to sit on that tub.

I am getting the game this week,(counting days already XD) and I have few questions:
How exactly do you do picnics? Because I seen some photos around and I have no clue.
How do you make your sims drive int he vehicle? Like in sims2 you assign th vehicle to a sim, is there and option like that in TS3?

chnnature 21st Dec 2009 4:19 AM

ok this is a WA stupid question:

I finally got all the peices to make a Kings surcophogus and I have 5 canopic jars. I know you're supposed to put the jars inside the tomb to (hopefully) make a mummy. But I can't put the jars inside. I tried moving them over in live mode, in buyer mode. Tried clicking on them, and the tomb, etc. What am I doing wrong?

you buy the picknic basket, then click it in the sim's inventory and place it.

yes there is.

chnnature: maybe it works the same way when you had to put the bribe into the chest, you have to click the chest and choose open, then you can drag from your inventory to it. I haven't done the task you are doing yet, so I'm just guessing here.

That's mercury. It's just like any other metal, only when smelted you get it in a tube instead of as an ingot.

If you have the five jars in your inventory, when you click on the sarcophagus you should see the option to summon a mummy.

They have to be the collectible canopic jars, not just "common relics", and you have to have one of each in the set.

One more: How do you assign hair style to the outfits? Because, when I had sims 3 I couldn't find the option to do such...

Srikandi 21st Dec 2009 6:18 AM

It's easiest to do it in CAS. There's a lock button on the hairs tab; click that to unlock. When it's unlocked, the hair you choose is for the current outfit only. You can just tab through the outfits and set the hair for each one as you go.

If you want to change hairstyle per outfit in-game later, you have to change into the outfit you want, and then use a mirror. Make sure the lock button is unlocked, and change the hair for that outfit. You'll have to go back into the game and change into a different outfit if you want to do another one.

my stupid question:

has anyone made a tutorial for CAW?
its so amazingly irritating that i have to guess as to what keys do what and how to get something to do what i want it to without some sort of manual. the Help tab also loads an undeniably blank screen. lots of help, there, EA.

XXDeidaraXX 21st Dec 2009 7:31 AM

I have a feeling my question is old and stupid, but whenever I try to change the weight of a Sim (like make one skinnier or fatter) the whole chest and stomach area moves forward (or backwards, depending on if I'm trying to make them skinner or not) and the head is left floating there along with the lower body.

Is there anyway to fix this? It's kinda getting annoy seeing random Sims walking around with what looks like random body parts floating in mid air.

There's a manual and a lil walkthrough in .pdf format at the EA site. You'll find links to those and lots of other tips and help here: http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=616

My stupid questions:

1. Was/Is there a small octagon shaped fountain? I don't mean the really big one I mean a small one like in the Sims2. Could have sworn there was but I cannot find it. Am I confused? Lol...

2. How do I figure out what Store Patterns go with which sets? What happens if I use a Pattern in an upload that someone doesn't have?

Shouldn't all shop patterns have the green icon on them? I once downloaded a house that had no doors or windows, even thou the ingame photos of it showed them. Most likely they were custom/store objects that I didn't have, so they didn't show up for me, my guess, is that probably they'll just not have that print in the object.

IamHarlie 21st Dec 2009 8:19 PM

My sims 3 pack files won't show up since i got that update where they put the store in the game. what's wrong?! I know mod the sims doesn't use those files, but I have no idea who to ask..

I have one, was going to create a new thread but i spotted this

Is it possible to choose the colour/theme of furniture when you are buying it. I hate that randomize button I can sit for at least 5 minutes hitting it to try and get something I like.

If there is a way to do it I am going to feel so stupid but will laugh about it

Nope -- patterns don't get icons. I don't think there is any way to identify what source you got a pattern from, except your saved recolors. And yes, it makes things difficult when uploading... you need a good memory, or to take notes.

You're right, that patch broke sims3packs. There's a workaround stickied in the Help forum, which is the place to look for tech questions: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=382520

Buy the furniture, then use the Create-A-Style tool (paint palette button) to customize it any way you want. CaSt is free, you can redecorate as often as you like. You can also copy a style from one object to another... or from one part of an object to another part... using the tool. It's an incredibly powerful tool -- you can specify up to four colors for each of up to four patterns for every object in the game. I'd look at the manual and read about everything you can do with it, and learn to love it

So I'm getting TS3 in the next few days, but I've already jumped the gun and begun downloading custom content. Here is my question: can you put custom content in folders, Nightlife-style, and will the game still be able to find it? Also, are there any naming conventions for files?

Right now I have all my MTS stuff in a 'Mod the Sims' folder, and subfolders are by creator name ('hazuitokage') and then download ('Stampede') and then the file name is something like Deco-Elephant.package. For hairs they're named something like Cherub-M/F-T to E.package. Should I collect all the files into one folder? Can my package names have symbols like spaces and slashes? Should they be lowercase?

I have a bit of a dilemma here. Googled and found nothing.

Hi you place all CC in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 \Mods\Packages

If you do not have a mods folder then just right click and create a new folder the game will find it

Srikandi 31st Dec 2009 12:50 AM

To expand on Conor.1's answer, you need more than just your mods in those locations... you need a couple of specific other files in specific locations as well. The easiest way to set it all up is to run Delphy's Install Helper Monkey, downloadable here. ANd there's plenty of info in our Help section on the ins and outs of installing mods

Also, that method works for .package files; some mods come in .sims3pack format, which is a whole different story. That's the format EA uses for Store stuff. You can extract the .package out of a sims3pack and install it the same way explained above, or install them via the launcher... but the last patch made the launcher unusable for a lot of folks, just to warn you.

From my experience it's something around 100,000ยง if you include the value of the lot.

thats if you install your game to C:\, anyway.
i installed mine to F:\, so i put mine in F:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 \Mods\Packages

the game will not automatically make these folders, so, that will be up to you, as well as obtaining the Resource.cfg file to make 'em all work.

Is there any way to transfer gem-cutting rights to another sim? My sim is gonna be an elder soon and he barely has half of them :\
