Polar Express
8/10 I enjoy watching this film but I just don't find it as amazing as lots of people find it. |
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
(Spoilerized for those who haven't seen it yet) |
@ Zarathustra
I wanted to write about The Battle of Five Armies as well, and while I'm a bit disappointed with the film, I wouldn't go as far as 2/10. Although... I haven't read the book, so that's probably why, however I understand why you might be so harsh... If someone made a crap out of 'my' book, say... Hyperion Cantos I would go mental too. As for the film itself, I found it a bit boring, the setup for the battle wasn't really that clear, and some moments felt just... wrong. More in the spoiler: So there we go. The film is a bit of mindless fun, but not something overly impressive. Desalination of Smaug was IMO better. Therefore The Battle of Five Armies will get 5/10 from me. EDIT: Billy Connolly was fun thought ![]() |
Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie: 6/10
I've watched this film twice and both times it was with my mum. It's a really silly film, featuring the beloved Mr. Bean. My mum and I do have a good laugh together when we watch it ![]() ![]() Thumbelina: 9/10 This was my favourite film as a child and I still love it now. I have loved this film since the first time I watched it, which was probably when I was around 5-6. If you enjoy the Disney classic films, such as The Little Mermaid etc, I recommend watching this. It features the same voice actress (Jodi Benson) from The Little Mermaid and is a really lovely film with lots of singing. I don't think I'll ever grow out of it. This is my favourite scene, for anyone who wants a sneak peak: |
Serena 7/10
Despite in movie there are 2 famous actors - Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, the film at some moments quite boring. But I liked the end and Jennifer Lawrence acting. |

Force Majeure - 8/10 - Drama?
A family ski vacation turns into a family psychodrama. |
It's A Wonderful Life - 9/10, a classic film that sends a good message. Don't you just wish something like that would happen to everyone who wanted to take their life away? Plus, it's a family tradition where we watch that movie while setting up the tree. I just watched it in color for the first time in my life - a little weird, but I could adjust. All in all, a purely fantastic film.
Also, Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street were named after the characters in this film. |
Big Hero Six - Hard to rate...it's going to be compared to HTTYD2 because they'll be competing for the same awards. It's a close call, both movies are amazing, too bad they were both done in the same year. The colors and animation were amazing and rich and the story was also very good. So....8.5? 9.0? Hard call. It played like a video game and it's guaranteed it will become either a movie and tv series and a video game. Even the music supported the action that way, it was like watching a Smash Brothers at times. The robot hero was adorable - absolutely loveable and little kiddos are going to completely relate to him (as are all the kiddos in grown-up bodies). It really will be a close call with HTTYD2, but given that it's Disney and there's all sorts of bias towards Disney and Pixar (just look at the brand loyalty discussed on this page), it will probably win the Oscar.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya - 8/10. It was really sweet and I enjoyed it. I liked all the historical aspects of feudal (?) Japan too. It was kind of sad, though, at the same time. A bit melancholic, like Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, which I like: it had that blend of appreciating the beauty and the pain of life, and experiencing the consequences of choices made. All in all, it was quite lovely. :lovestruc

For French we need to watch a movie and read a book, so that during the exam we can choose which to write a lovely essay on. La Haine is one of the best movies I've seen, definitely a 10/10. Dat cliffhanger doe! Its a pretty cool ending

Jack and the beanstalk (2010) - 3/10
Let's be cops (2014) - 4/10 The Boxtrolls (2014) -6/10 Among friends (2012) - 5/10 Step up all in (2014) - 4/10 The virgin Suicides (1999) - 2/10 Dolphin tale 2 (2014) - 2/10 the maze runner (2014) - 7/10 Santa jr (2002) - 4/10 Life partners (2014) - 5/10 Life after Beth (2014) 3/10 |
Pompeii (2014) - 5/10

The Lego Movie 7.5/10 - Very cute and mostly enjoyable. There were some very funny moments in this piece and the animation was great. It was hysterical watching Lego figures try to do various things and the film took a humorous approach to things like Lego figures holding hands. The down side of the movie is there's too much action and a lot of repetitiveness. The wrap up at the end is very sweet. All in all, a very solid kid's movie and recommended.
Turtles Can Fly Depressing, yet insightful, moving, and meaningful. This tells the story of the children of a village on the border of Iraq and Turkey who find ways to survive around the time of the Iraq/Iran War. It's heartbreaking. The actors are real kids recruited for the film. Highly recommended 9/10 |
Ray - 10/10 Damn that was a good movie. Tells the story of how Ray Charles got a bit too involved with his music career...
Hit the road, Jack. And don't you come back no more no more no more no more hit the road, Jack. And don't you come back no more. Seriously I love this guy's music. |
In Your Eyes 3/10 I'm sad to say, this was a huge disappointment. The idea had a lot of potential and it was written by Joss Whedon. Truly dull.
|
Exodus: gods and kings - 7/10
|
The Village I'm not sure how to rate this. Seriously. I can't decide if it's a good movie or if it's crap. I've actually seen it twice. I couldn't remember if it was the film I had seen or not when I read the description on Netflix, and then I got caught up in watching it. The first time around, I was hugely disappointed in the final reveal, but this time, knowing how it ends, I actually appreciated it more. But, I can't rate it. It's somewhere between a 5 and 6 out of 10. Yeah, let's go with that. 5 or 6/10.
|
Brother Bear - 8/10
It's a good family movie. I hadn't seen it since it first came out and I liked it this time around too. |
01/01: Inside Man- 8/10
Generally movies with Denzel Washingtonare too serious, however this one was fun! Also, if there's gonna be a bankrobbery, the movie is usually fun,no? 02/01: Streetdance2- 5/10 So cringe worthy, my face hurt by the end of it. The people definitely have dancing skills though :D |
Ok,
Yesterday I saw a film known as... My god... That has to be the stupidest, most inconsistent, least engaging film ever made (and I saw U-571). I can't even point what is so bad here, as I would have to describe the entire movie. I have too much rspect for my keyboard to waste it on describing this piece of crap. And what is Liam Neeson doing here? Has someone kidnapped his family and, as a ransom, demanded that he starred is this film? Avoid. 0/10 (and that's because I don't think I can do negative numbers) Also, I heared, and apparently there is a kind of big deal, that someone called Ri Hanna stars here as well. No idea who that is, but that cant be a good actor/actress as everyone in this film was acting like a poo. |
Waiting For Forever - Netflix - Romantic comedy
9/10 I was impressed with this movie! I was so inspired by the love. :lovestruc |
The Breakfast Club - 7/10
It was good, but it wasn't completely amazing like some people said it was. I did like the message though. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - 3/10 I'd already seen this twice before, both times about a year ago. The first time I watched it I liked it okay, the second time not so much, and this time I really didn't. They just changed so many things from the book that they shouldn't have. Things wrong with the movie: There's probably some stuff I'm forgetting, but that's already way too many things wrong. Apparently it could be a TV series as well, which they'll probably also ruin entirely! Not to be overly cynical but I wish they would've at least read the book or tried a little. |
Cast Away - 9/10
I'd seen this when it first came out (my Spanish teacher at the time kept insisting that every single person on Earth must see this film...), but was obviously not old enough to really appreciate it at that point, since while I didn't find anything wrong with it per se, it certainly didn't grab me either. Rewatching it thanks to it appearing atop my Netflix recommendations was a whole other ball game- wow! Tom Hanks may get made fun of a fair big, and he's certainly had some weaker moments in his career (I'm still bitter about The Polar Express), but his acting in this movie was phenomenal! Even more impressive, given that for most of it, he is literally the only person there- he doesn't have another character to bounce off of or fall back on. The idea that a man can be shouting, utterly destroyed over failing to save the life of his only friend, and having that friend be a volleyball, seems like it would be utterly impossible to realize in any kind of serious way, yet Hanks managed to make it not only believable, but downright tragic! Really, the whole Wilson arc was pretty remarkable, after having spent so much time in some of my Political Science classes at university discussing man as a social animal, and the idea that without social interaction, there is nothing of humanity or of the "divine spark" that can be seen. Talking to Wilson as if he were real isn't a sign that Hanks' character is going crazy- it's the only thing keeping him sane! Overall, a very well done character study... something that's becoming all too rare in modern cinema. |
Astro Boy
8/10 I was flicking though the channels and saw that this film was on so I decided to watch the film, it was the first time I watched the whole film which was better than I thought it would be. my dad got given the film a few years ago but the disk was so scratched that it would only work for about 30 mins and then the film would just freeze, me and my dad could never get it to work. |
'Nineteen Eighty-Four' (1984) 10/10: Faithful to the Orwell book, montage of Oceanian soldiers was epic.
|
Boyhood: 8/10 - A very nice movie to watch at home. The most interesting thing to see is obviously the characters' actual aging, but it's also nice to see a story that is as down to earth as it gets, extremely simple, almost bland but at the same time very powerful and effective.
Gone Girl: 8/10 - This is a movie you're only supposed to watch once, I guess, but boy isn't it shocking in some parts!! Also almost made me reconsider Ben Affleck as an actual actor. Jurassic Park: 9/10 - This is still as good as it gets. I've probably watched this more than 20 times. I'm very excited for Jurassic World, even though I am positive it's not going to be nearly as good as the first one, but still... Chris Pratt and dinosaurs combined seem a pretty good deal to me. Since I am on this thread, can you guys suggest some must-see movies that are most likely going to get Oscar nominations? ![]() |
Reign Over Me - 8/10
It was a really moving movie but very sad. I didn't cry though, which isn't surprising since I've never cried over a book or movie, but if you're prone to crying you probably would. |
The Theory of Everything - 9.5/10
Aaah it was brilliant! Anyone who was half interested in seeing this film, you definitely should! It was really beautiful, and incredibly moving. I went with my parents, and we all felt the same. Bring tissues -- I nearly choked on my popcorn while crying! ![]() ![]() |
Two Night Stand (2014) - 5/10
Into The Woods (2014) 6/10 I had such high hopes for this film,I love musicals but half way through this film I was begging them to stop singing. TMNT (2014) - 4/10 Laggies (Say When) (2014) - 5/10 Yes Or No 2 (2012) - 5/10 Wolf Creek (2005) - 1/10 The Longest Week (2014) - 3/10 The Ant Bully (2006) - 2/10 Behaving Badly (2014) - 4/10 The Boy In The Dress (2014) - 6/10 Moms Night Out (2014) - 5/10 Lap Dance (2014) - 3/10 On The Buses (1971) - 7/10 We are the best (2013) - 5/10 Perfect sisters (2014) - 5/10 The Moth Diaries (2011) - 4/10 Pride (2014) - 8/10 |
Nightcrawler (2014), 9/10. I felt really conflicted in the end.
|
A Beautiful Mind - 8/10. Really good movie. I could relate to it a lot as someone who has delusions myself but I don't think I could manage them without medication, and I'm not a mathematical genius either. :P
|
The Overnighters - Documentary - 2014 - 8/10
I thought it was a documentary about people converging on Williston, ND to find jobs in the shale oil industry, and a minister who opens his church to those who don't have shelter. But the story gets a lot stranger as it goes along. It left me with a lot to think about. |

|
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2014) - 5/10
|
Guardians of the Galaxy
7/10 it was okay but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I didn't really understand the film that well my dad said that there is going to be 5 parts of the film made so hopefully I will understand it more as each film comes out. baby Groot is so cute at the end when he was dancing in the flower pot. |
The Incredibles 7.5/10. Overall, I found this film quite enjoyable but am unclear about why people rave about it. While I enjoyed the theme of washed up hero, I wondered if that would get to be a bit boring for the little ones. I also thought it went on a bit too long on that part, but overall was very creative and fun.

The Amazing Spider-man 2
8/10 I thought this was a really good film until something really devastating happens at the end which is why I didn't give it a 10/10. click spoiler if you want to know what happens |
The Maze Runner - 2/10. What the heck was that? It was hard to follow and made no sense.

Killuminati
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v00j2JO2gI Why not just call it Illuminati? Smushing the word KILL into it just brings hope that it's all tongue in cheek. But no, they're serious. The only value for me seeing this is to test my bs detector and resistance to crap. Some of my brain was accepting it before the end of the first hour. This is a heavily edited bag of mixed trickery and all the audio taken from media sources is consistently lousy and out of sync to hide the spoken audio not matching the lip movements of whoever is supposed to be talking. But don't worry, the biggest trick is that it's three hours long to wear you down. Worth watching to see how long it takes for their fear techniques to start grabbing you. The disclaimer at the beginning pretty much says: You have no business watching this if you don't agree to believe what you're about to see because then you are a rigid-minded sheep. I only watched the first hour because it was already getting toxic in my head, but saved the link to text file for future revisiting. So, pretty much you are going to see and hear ( in the first hour ) appeals to your apophenia by showing images from the past being coincidentally similar to images later in history, tons of eyes and creepy sound effects from sounddogs.com, George Bush Jr and Sr talking about the New World Order, "experts" that you have probably never heard of because they are so deep they drowned in the earth's magma, world trade center stuff about thermite, the argument that you can't trust the government because they always lie to you and therefore can only be the work of the Killuminati because the government wouldn't lie on their own, George Carlin doing his standup routine but this time with music in the background, Bush Jr making a joke about not finding wmd's superimposed with video of soldiers dying, a clip from the Daily Show, botched audio edits and sneaky pull out to image on bulky television set shots, and lot's and lots of dollar bills. Rating: 6.66 Eyes of Sauron out of 10 |
"Fury" (2014) with Brad Pitt. After seeing the previews we were looking forward to watching this...2 hours, 14 minutes later I wished I had my wasted time back. I'll give it 2/10 because we stuck it out until the end.
On the up-side, I get to select the next movie : D |
Fury 7/10
I like WW2 movies. Fury turned out to be better than I'd expected. I can only describe it as a really American? Also, lots of explosions :D |
I last saw Sense and Sensibility and I'll give it at 3 out of 5. It was okay; the story was fine, but I was really just bored and was wondering when it would be over about halfway through the movie. I'm just glad I didn't have to read the novel for class, though Zofloya, or the Moor is giving me a run for my money too.
|
Goodfellas - 9.5/10
|
Guardians of the Galaxy. 5/5. I never watch movies. So really, my opinion really shouldn't count because apparently I have horrific taste. However, it was really well done, and I loved Vin Diesal
![]() |
Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)- 7/10
It was eh. Did they really need to make a second one? I at least thought it would be continuing from the last one, which it didn't really. It made me laugh, so I give it a 7 instead of 6. |
Big Hero 6- 10/10
Initially I hadn't felt the need to watch it in the cinema, but I went anyway. Best decision this year! |
Hobbit battle of the 5 armies
Tolkien lover- 2/5-- as a tolkienaholic, the entire Hobbit franchise has ticked me off from the first movie. The entire premise of this film isn't even in the original book! The entire climax of the book happens in the first 15 min of the movie and the rest is fluff. entertainment value- 4/5-- However, as a fan of just good movies and not being a Tolkien fan, this is a good movie. Obviously it is no where near the scale of LOTR but it was very entertaining. Hands down the best of the 3 movies. The story was good, the acting supurb, the battle scenes, eh good but didn't have the break up like how they did in LoTR which hurt it. But a very good movie all in all. |
The Vow (2012) - 7/10
I really enjoyed this film although it wasn't what I expected. I expected the sort of film I love - cheesy romance. This Nicholas Sparks novel inspired movie actually takes a slightly different direction. Based on true events, the couple are in a car accident and it leaves Paige (Rachel McAdams) with memory loss. Her husband Leo (Channing Tatum) works to win her heart again. Quite touching at times and I enjoyed it.. ![]() Dreamgirls (2006) - 6/10 I expected to fall fully in love with it, as it's all about music, but didn't. It is definitely not a bad film though as there are some great parts. Jennifer Hudson was amazing. The singing in it is insane. Eddie Murphy is as brilliant as ever. Beyoncé as well. Jamie Foxx's character was convincing. Basically all of the actors/actresses were brilliant. Some really gripping parts in the storyline too. ![]() |
Wreck It Ralph - 8/10

The Oscars are tonight. Good luck to all the nominees, especially How To Train Your Dragons 2
*Update* Sadly, HTTYD2 did not win, but Big Hero 6 did and that was a great movie too. Maleficent 6.5/10 Visually exciting, but the story was a bit weak. The ending was great, however, and almost makes up for the weaker elements. The costumes, make-up, and setting were fantastic. I prefer the original Disney story of Sleeping Beauty, however. Aurora seemed a bit dopey in this version. Otherwise, I like the idea of a back story and a rewrite for a villain. |
Kingsman: The Secret Service 9/10
|
last rites 1999
6/10 I had to watch this in R.E the film was okay but I didn't really understand it, IMO I think the ending of the film was rushed. |
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - 5/10? honestly, I probably shouldn't rate it. I was a little too tipsy when watching it to know what exactly was going on...but I don't know how much sense it would've made sober, either. I need to read the book anyway.
Tuck Everlasting - 7/10 I loved this movie when I first saw it when I was younger, but seeing it now I realized more of its flaws...still, it was a sweet movie. I liked the book when I was younger too. |
My Neighbor Totoro - 10/10. I always love a good Ghibli movie, especially one as cute as Totoro (though the catbus can be a bit creepy).
|
Dogtooth - 2009 - 9/10
The parents keep their three, now adult children imprisoned in their house compound supposedly to protect them from the outside world. Worth watching if you enjoy offbeat films. |
Chappie - 7/10. I enjoyed it. It was pretty intense and gritty in parts, but I liked that the characters weren't moral absolutes.
Sweet Home Alabama - 8/10. It was my second time watching it, and it was just as nice this time around. I like movies that aren't too intense sometimes. |
Yesterday I finally got round to watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 7/10

X men first class
8/10 I really like this film and one of my dad's look a like in the film so I like teasing him every time we watch the movie ![]() I would like to see an alternate version where wolverine chooses to help them, maybe Charles wouldn't have become paralyzed If wolverine was there. I don't know which order to watch the films now that days of future past has been made. Charles got killed in the Last stand so how was he alive in days of future past? I don't understand. |
Chris Sanders did that and I love the way he makes his female characters. Those women were strong!

Chappie - 2015 - SciFi - 4/10
The story isn't good - there was a better movie in there somewhere. |
The Giver - 7/10
Annie (2014) - 4/10 Top five - 5/10 Dumb and Dumber To - 4/10 Horrible Bosses 2 - 2/10 Big Hero 6 - 6/10 Ouija - 4/10 St. Vincent - 7/10 |
The Duff - 5/10. It was okay. It was trying to be like Mean Girls, but it just wasn't up to par. And it was pretty cheesy and stereotypical, but there were still a few funny parts. I think I'll check out the book but the movie didn't impress me.
Tiger Orange 7/10. - I just got to see this as a special showing at my school, but it doesn't come out until July. It was good and I enjoyed it. It was quite good for an independently made and produced low-budget LGBT film casting a porn star in a main role. I felt like it had a lot of different elements to it, which was nice. I also got to meet the director and one of the main actors, so that was cool. |
Insurgent - 8/10. I actually liked it a lot, and felt they kept the feeling of the movie closer to the book. It was more violent than Divergent, which was actually a good thing since the book was. And it was very intense and action-packed, which was good. I didn't like that they changed one important thing though, because it lent a greater significance in the book version (not going to mention it because spoilers). And I'm mad they skipped the amity peace serum scene. But other than that it was good.

The Englishman Who Walked Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain - Wouldn't watch again / 10
It stars hugh grant. This happens in old timey welshing-shire where hugh grant has to inform the shire that their "mountain" is just a hill by english law because it's not high enough. And so the shire-folk add dirt to make it a mountain throughout the movie. I guess the pull to watch is that it has some charm, or they're trying, but a better reason to watch is that it has transporter chief Miles O'Brien. There's a romance between hugh grant and tara fitzgerald but it would rather be cutely polite instead of steamy hot, and so it has a flat effect like much like the humor. It could be a decent film for those who like pleasant folk happenings and a unique scenario, but man it feels like at the time the movie was an obligation laid out like a hen's egg to pay for better movies down the line. |
Home 7/10 - I enjoyed this very much. It was, like so many Dreamworks films, simply visually stunning. The details in characters brought them to a lively focus and allowed me to feel connected to them. I wanted to pick up Pig the cat and cuddle him so badly! The story itself was nothing extraordinary, but well told. I chucked, rather than laughed outright, and wept near the end. Overall, I liked the messages about friendship, conformity, and respecting other cultures. Even though I'm not really into pop music, the songs were ok. I actually liked the one J Lo sang. The score, outside of the songs, was good. This was a solid kids film and I would recommend it for families.

Joe + Belle (2011) - 3/10
Anatomy of a Love Seen (2014) - 3/10 Interstellar (2014) - 7/10 Twister (1996) - 6/10 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) - 6/10 What We Did on Our Holiday (2014) - 5/10 |
The Imitation Game - 2014 - 9/10 I was very moved indeed by the life of Alan Turing who essentially invented computers and who helped thrash the Nazis. The main character played very well by Benedict Cumberbatch. The female love interest wasn't much of a stretch for Keira Knightly who essentially played the same person she plays in all her films.
The Grand Budapest Hotel - 2014 - 10/10 I laughed out loud more than once and loved it's really quite bizarre storyline. The story contains some brilliant one-liners. Beautifully filmed with incredible sets - a retro-lovers wet dream! |
The Day The Clown Cried - The Complete Reenactment
Without an okay from Jerry Lewis for an official release, this is all that we can get for now. The effort of one guy recreating the movie by playing all of the characters himself. He didn't actually see the movie but based it all off of the final script. If you haven't heard of The Day The Clown Cried, it's something that Jerry Lewis, himself, says "You will never see it. No one will ever see it, because I am embarrassed at the poor work." If this reenactment is legit, as in as accurate to the material and intention of the movie as possible, then the actual movie would be 1. not funny, but with unintentionally funny moments 2. manipulative and skilled in emotional blackmail 3. powerful nonetheless, and 4. memorable. This guy has a talent for illustrating thick accent, ridiculous shouting nazi men and terrified, crying children. He doesn't have a huge budget and many of the scenes are in his house, but you probably won't be confused about locations, characters, and what the situation is. The protagonist is a washed up clown named helmut doork who gets drunk and mocks der hitler mon, and gets thrown into a prison camp. You can tell right away where this is headed. But aside from the production, the power of the material shines through and you will be pulled in by the 15 minute mark if you can look past the presentation. Worth a watch for the drama and storytelling in spite of understandable limitations. Glad I saw it having time to kill, even though the single actor overly hams it up many times. Gets heavy, even atmospheric, when children are added to the situation to mess with your sense of humanity. 7 / 10 |
John Carter (2012) - 7/10
I was really surprised at how much I liked this movie. Granted it was a pretty stereotypical action flick, but the fact that it was envisioned in the early 20th century really impressed me for one thing, and the plot was full of twists and turns I didn't see coming (and I didn't know what exactly would happen until the very end). I also thought it was cool how it went from the 1880s (the original was written in 1917) to a futuristic mars landscape, which you don't see very often with sci fi. And the Mars princess was a total badass, which I'm sure they had to add in from the original source material, but it was nice. I thought it was a quite well done adaptation for one of the precursors to modern science fiction. |
Kingsman: the secret service 8/10
I made my dad go with me because I'm cool like that. We knew it would be good, just not that good! There were times were I should not have been laughing, but I did anyway. You should totally go and watch it if you haven't already :D Also there was a trailer for Big Game(?) that looks super cool! |
The Draughtsman's Contract - 1982
Visually beautiful. Stunning costumes. I watched it on Youtube and Part 2 was missing, but I was still able to follow it. |
The Maltese Falcon (1941) - 7/10. A really well made movie with a great plot, but I was a bit bored at times. I still thought it was very well done though and it had a lot of twists and turns I wasn't expecting!

The Hunger Games: 10/10
The Hunger Games catching fire: 10/10 The Hunger Games Mockingjay part 1: 9.5/10 I loved all the films but I was a little bit disappointed with Mockingjay part 1 still a great film though, It was my first time watching all three films as I never got round to buying them until a few weeks ago, I'm now looking forward to Mockingjay part 2 being released. |
The Hobbit Part 1 - 8/10. The second time I'd seen it and I liked it. I still think they drew out the movies too long though; the book has only enough material for one movie. But it was still well done and I liked it. My friends and I are planning to see all of the Hobbit and LOTR movies in the coming weeks.

The starving games : 2/10
IMO this film was a rubbish parody of the hunger games which I didn't find funny, I really had high hopes for this but ended up very disappointed about it, I totally do not recommend this film it just isn't worth the 83 minutes of your life. |
I've seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame recently and I'm still thinking about it. I used to adore this movie when I was a little kid, because of the songs and the storyline which I loved. But now that I think about it, the Hunchback was a MAJOR leap in the dark for Disney, compared to the previous Classics. It touches very hot topics... Disability, of course, and prejudice. Racism and social injustice. Possibly the first, also rather perverted, explicitly sexual desire (Frollo's towards Esmeralda). But most importantly, religion in an unbiased and critical way: Esmeralda's song in the church gives me goosebumps. Damn, this movie's got balls!
As much as I love Frozen or Tangled or recent hits, I must admit that Classics from the '90s really were innovative and inspiring. Mulan and Pocahontas also bring some food for thought to the table, such as respect for the environment, spirituality towards Earth and feminism. Elsa and Anna show that a woman doesn't need a prince but I mean... Mulan saved her country, defeated the Huns, showed everyone she was worthy even though nobody believed in her because she was a girl and her emperor asked her to join his council. |
French movie this time. On wednesday I saw Ça va passer.... mais quand?
8/10 I think. I didn't like the parents, but the kids were totally the coolest peeps ever. |
The Voices (2014) - 5/10
Boy Meets Girl (2014) - 6/10 |
Drive (2011)- 9/10
Edit: forgot to rate movie ![]() |
I've seen The Age of Adeline yesterday!
First of all, there was a new Lana del Rey song in the trailer which was NOT in the movie, not even in the credits, which sucked. But the movie was very good. A romantic and touching story with amazing visuals and setting. 8/10 |
National Treasure 6.5/10 This was ok. It had its moments, but wasn't as exciting as I hoped. One huge plus was Nicolas Cage. The premise was a bit far-fetched, although I understand there's a kernel of truth in it (must be a small seed). I'll call it entertaining and not a waste of time, especially the Nicolas part.
![]() Queen This was rated highly on Netflix. I'm not sure what to put for it. I'm sure it was good, it just wasn't the type of movie I like overmuch. It was certainly interesting! I enjoyed the singing and ultimately how the main character developed. I sympathized with her. There were just too many parts that I found off putting. That probably reflects more on me than it does on the movie. I don't enjoy grittiness. |
Johnny English: 8/10
I've never watched this film until today, well I only caught the last half on TV. It was actually quite good it was weird at first hearing Rowan Atkinson talk normally due to being used to hearing him Mr Bean. I found the part where he starts talking about his secret plans in the corner room in the castle yet he accidentally leans on a button that cause all the villains to hear his escape plan I also liked the ending where he was just about to make love with Lorna Campbell but accidentally eject her out of the car ![]() |
Ex Machina - 2015 - 7/10
I should probably stop rating movies because I'm not very good at it. I tend to rate things too high.. I was going to give this a 6, but Oscar Isaac was great so I decided on a 7. Not really all that much about AI - more like if Dr Frankenstein was an asshole billionaire. |
The Tale of Princess Kaguya - 10/10
THAT ENDING. PLEASE TELL ME IT DIDN'T END LIKE THAT. WHY. |
What We Do in the Shadows - Mockumentary/Comedy - 2014 - 9/10
So funny - I loved it. |
Still Alice (2014) - 4/10
Love, Rosie (2014) - 6/10 Jupiter Ascending (2015) - 5/10 Black or White (2014) - 4/10 Concussion (2013) - 4/10 The Wedding Ringer (2015) - 5/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Love Rosie made me cry and it reminded me of my old bestie. Jupiter Ascending was ok but it went on for so long they could have cut some bits out because they are not needed. The Wedding Ringer was so predictable and not funny. |
Be kind, Rewind: 10/10
I honestly think this is a very good movie which is easy to watch and don't see any reason not to give the movie 10/10 |
The Guest (2014) 8/10
I thought it was ok, some may consider it gory. Also great soundtrack ![]() Edit 14/05: I'm fairly certain that I'm not supposed to double post here so; I watched '71 and I'm rating it 7.5/10. I enjoyed it, but its not something that I'd watch again ![]() |

What the fuck is your problem? ...COLLECTIVE SOUL?! WHAT THE FUCK??? Adrenaline rush...heh heh...that's the only time I'm gonna laugh in this movie isn't it. This Edward guy is weird Why am I still watching this? I didn't watch the rest of it just because I was so bored with it |
