All these years later and I just now realized that "Academie Le Tour" is a reference to Tim LeTourneau

I have to laugh at least a little bit at the latest spammer in the TS2 forums (inadvertently I'm sure) including the word "llama" in their spam posts- I did a double-take wondering if it was deliberate or not at first!
|
Aww, I missed the llama. XD I bet it was the cow mascot posting to try and get the other mascot in trouble!

I've created an npc cook in Service Area who cooks llama meat, not without controversy from some sims of course. :/ xDD

I love custom content shopping. I really, really do. I love downloading hundreds of rar files mindlessly. Better than doomscrolling. TS2 is honestly the best for this because it's been around longer than 3 & 4. You literally never run out of stuff to find.
However... I don't love having to organize it later. I try to do it in batches, but it's still so much work! I also hate having to figure out what items are broken/meshes I missed after the fact. Also trying to find duplicates. The price to pay to have a pretty game. |

Small tip for organizing - do it while downloading. I have a downloading folder outside the game. I download the zip/rar file(s), at least one picture, copy the text to a notepad file, save the link (as a file or text), and put everything in a folder named the same as the zip folder. I (roughly) sort these folders into larger categories of Buy/CAS/mods/default/poses (and so on) in that main folder. You could use whichever categories fit for you. This helps keep things neat. It's also very useful if you need to check for an update, or something is flashing blue or not working properly and need another item, or you get errors and need to find out if the mod has known conflicts/need another mod. Also extremely handy if the original item is deleted and you suddenly need the original text since you don't even know what the item was. Pictures are handy for searching the folder if you need to find a spesific item but can't remember what it's called (do searches for jpg + png, and set to "large images") If the item needs extra files from a different download, I also tend to stick those files into the same folder, so I don't have to go on a hunt (that's why it's always useful to read about the item! Saves lots of work later). I never just download a bunch of random zip files and stick them in a folder - after a few weeks I'd barely have any idea what they were for, and the cleanup work would be endless... (It also keeps me from putting every last bit of CC item into my game. I can hoard CC, but my game doesn't suffer too much for it ) |

Very random question, I thought I'd ask here to see if someone could point me in the right direction.
I have been playing TS2 very sporadically over the last few months, I must have added some mod that's messing up the gameplay on community lots and sometime even on residential ones as it seem to have affected the attraction ingame. If I try accessing debug, I get the following error: Error: Problem executing script (AttractionScore): Run-time: (none):0: attempt to perform arithmetic on field `?' (a nil value) stack traceback: (none): in function `AttractionScore' I've tried with LD updated HCDU but it won't let me as it things it's generated by the "force error" interaction. |
It could be that a sim who is coming to the lot when this error happens doesn't have an aspiration.

I changed the language in The Sims 2. I reinstalled, so we're all good here. I have two external drives and an internal drive with backups of my Sims 2 folder just in case. As for how I managed to run Regedit without admin privileges... I disabled a lot of Microsoft's built in "fool-proof" protection because I found it annoying. I've been using Windows since I was a toddler in the 90s and honestly don't need the amount of hand holding that Windows comes with. Unfortunately, it's all or nothing with the "fool-proof" protection, so I can't pick and choose which parts of it I want. So yeah, the "fool-proof" protection didn't stop this fool from disabling it. |

Yeah, but changing the language only requires editing one DWord- I don't understand how you could mess up an entire install by doing that. I change the game language often (as my daughter's game is installed in a different language to mine, and we have a hood that we share), I just made a backup of the relevant key in both languages, so I can just install that key easily to swap between both languages without even opening regedit each time. |

Then you should always have administrator rights. You can't use regedit without them. |
Mystery solved. My SSD failed. I'm on my laptop after my desktop's SSD went into read only mode. And it has to happen right when I don't have the money to replace it, too. Go figure.

Oh dear, well that explains it! Good that you have your sims backed up though, well done for keeping that up to date!

Rather than derail the "talking to plants" thread any further, I'll raise the matter of how slow Sims are at learning to use a cash register here. In the "talking to plants" thread I just reminded @pinkdynamite about Pescado's smartercashier mod. However, in co-operation with leading Bluewater entrepreneur Malcolm Landgraab IV, I've been thinking of another possible solution to the cash register bottleneck in owned businesses. When watching the NPC teenagers working the tills at his local supermarket, Malcolm couldn't help noticing how professionally and efficiently they worked the cash registers there. There were never any significant queues at the tills. He's starting to think that, if they could do the job as well for him, it might be worth paying them a slightly enhanced rate. To help him in his aim, I'm thinking of giving all my NPC cashiers gold cash register badges. Am I right in thinking that I would have to make them either playables or townies, before he (or other buiness owners) coukld hire them? Or could they remain as NPCs while becoming Landgraab employees?

I try to flesh my NPCs out with matching jobs & skills if I can get to it. For example, make Professors work in Education, Servers work in Culinary, and Register Clerks work in Slacker.
To hire an NPC, you need to make a simple mod of global 504 "Business - Can nID Be Employed by Store ID?". Enable young adults while you're at it. Since the game recycles the same register clerks everywhere on vacation or university, they can do just one more lot fine, lol. I wonder what is up with the sudden want to Work in Cafeteria. The closest cafeteria is in Downtown and we are in Riverblossom. I've never seen this. |

We don't have that stove. There is no check tree, so it is only trigger based. Maybe she feels like a young adult because she grew up all the way from a toddler in one go. Jesus. Hahaha.

But before Malcolm can actually hire them, I have to make that change that jonasn suggested in post #13844 above. I'm pretty sure that means me making a global mod, which is something I've never done. However it sounds a very simple mod, and I feel it's something I ought to be able to do, considering that I used to be able to earn a living as a programmer! What I think I have to do is find the relevant bit of code in objects.package, and then write a simple mod to replace it. (But NOT under any circumstances to edit objects.package itself!!!) I may need a little bit of hand-holding to do it though! Somebody please tell me if I've got that completely wrong! |

It often helps to look at some different approaches. There's a "smartercashier" mod at MATY, it reduces the amount of customers the cashiers have to ring in for the bronze badge from 50 to roughly 10 or so. Could come in handy when analyzing how to do your mod. http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,3420.0.html If you want to be a bit more in control, or want the sims to immediately get badges, there's also the SimBlender and the Insimenator and such, which lets you give whichever badges you want, but it's a more manual approach, of course. Here's another one with just the badge-giving, in case that helps (I imagine the larger mods are more confusing to look through) - http://www.insimenator.org/index.php?topic=42938.0 Personally, I'd probably do it ingame. NPCs (the playable kind - pretty sure cashiers are considered safe) have names, so they should be relatively easy to find with the badge-giving mods while you're on the lot when they're working. I'd likely use the Insimenator, since it can be spawned in and out without needing buy/build (especially useful on community lots). |
Global 504 is just a list of conditions to see if the hiring target shows the menu, and it may come into effect in some later cases.
I was also thinking how it would be nice to hire an NPC. But Landgrab powered through. There are many ways of giving the initial badges. In Memory Commander you don't need to spawn the person on the lot. Sepect him from the phone book, and then do Miscellaneous -> Badges, or select any of the present people of course. Btw, if you marry Adriana Shaikh or Naenae Phillipine, who are Iconic plantperson worshippers in the Peerless Park, do you eat Fish for the rest of your life and your kids life? |
Well, do you stop eating animals (cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, fish) if you marry an animal (human)? No, you only stop eating that particular kind of animal. Which isn't normally eaten anyway. It's only cannibalism if it occurs at the species level, not at the kingdom level.
