I know little about Apartments.

Here I stumbled upon someone having written an academic paper in the University of Glasgow about the Sims, presumably for being rated for college performance. Who needs to hack grades in the secret society if you can do this. Seems like they have gotten their hands on Edith, but no mention of PJSE for any inspiration or comparison for usability. Seems like the basics have remained broadly the same since Sims 1 and Online.

It seems like they are talking about FreeSO, which is based on Sims 1. Peter Jones' tools (PJSE) were designed for SimPE (Sims 2). Edith has been released for a while:

Although you may want to remove the "II" for the kids' sake if you plan on them having kids, or you may need to rename everyone after someone else in the family. Alternatively, change her first name to "Daisy II" so they can share "Williams").

If you mean whether "II" goes away when she marries (in a RL naming way), then no. The "II" would come from from her being the second person in the family called "Daisy" - it's commonly based on the first name, not on the last name (royality often don't have last names but have a smaller pool of "acceptable names", so you get "Henry VII" or "Elizabeth II" and the like).

Thank you! I'll go in and fix it in SimPE

The people buying Legacy are people who are reminded by the rerelease of how much they liked it when they had it, but don't know where to start making it work on newer systems.

Also, it does work well for some people. A lot depends on the system you're using. They did apply some fixes (mostly taking the fixes supplied by modders, without acknowledgement).

People aren't programmable. They're pressured to buy new things, highly stressed, and have bad coping mechanisms. They don't know how to hunt up a really good deal. And all industries are like this now, so most people, most of the time, don't have much choice but to buy what they want/need and can't make for themselves.

Plus there will be totally new people who have started with Sims 4 and are probably sick of the bugs and want to try the older games.

Being a vampire is a trap. They lure you with infinite life without the elixir but it sucks without mods. You have to burn up about a quarter before you can sleep in a bed, and you get out before the night has come. You still burn up in a basement. Then you spend most of the night recovering. You burn up halfway going to the carpool, and a bit more going to an ownable vehicle. Without platinum mood, job performance worsens. I don't even play my vampires because how disappointing they are and there is a desync in time.

My pregnant women seem to be vomiting left and right now. In the past I somehow avoided it. If she vomits on a countryside toilet with an elevated water tank, the tank up there gets dirty. Not during the event, but after she gets up, lol. I wonder why we don't see such water tanks anymore new.

simsfreq 5th Feb 2025 2:24 PM

I found a list of mods for better vampires, like making indoors count as not-sunlight-exposed - I thought I remembrered seeing one which made it matter if the room was windowless or not - but anyway you could always police that yourself, of course. Seems like an ownable car inside a garage ought to be doable.

And some more

https://everythingsims2.com/vampire-mods/

Apparently the toilet change is due to improved design of the trap in modern toilets with a lower placed tank, meaning they don't need gravity to provide the necessary pressure to shift things along any more.

If I wanted to make a mod for this, I'd also need to count glass doors and arches & greenhouse. I went down that rabbit hole when making auto-lights. Ideally, the room should be double-walled: the connected rooms should have no windows/glassdoors/arches. And connected rooms can be via stairs. If you are in a real room during daytime, there is still plenty light coming in from neighboring rooms. The sims "room" can be surrounded by low walls. In the end I had to admit it was not possible to detect light fully, and made a mode that says "window coverage," meaning manually say that the spot is light up despite no windows found.

I think vampyres could live in a basement, which comes with some disadvantages when used for normal people: awkward camera, sometimes visible on lot imposter, a bit creepy. The way a basement can be practically connected also leaves it exposed via a 4 tile hole where the stairs are and no door (there is often not the space for an enclosed stair room).

Projectile vomiting is the only thing I can think of.

Cassandra Lothario just one-upped everyone on the vomiting game. Not the first time I had it happen, but now I caught the situation developing. Don Lothario was cleaning in the bathroom. Cassandra Lothario bumped into him in the door and couldn't get in. Then she magically made the toilet dirty as it was positioned behind Don Lothario's body, and she avoided vomiting. I think this will be a source of argument between them.

Then Cassandra might just happen to discover the stash of dating trophies under the stairs as they are redecorating the house.

StrangeTownChick 6th Feb 2025 2:28 PM

You know, after learning what "Lothario" means I wondered why anyone would date him, let alone marry him...but then again, Heracles's third wife was named "Husband Destroyer" so who am I to judge such questionable choices?

jonasn 6th Feb 2025 3:02 PM

What does it mean? It gives me a Medieval fantasy vibe like Warcraft or Lord of the Rings. The writers often make silly jokes when naming things. Like foods in LeTourneau or Identical Initials, or Caliente sisters being hot. I try my best to disregard these jokes.

Him marrying is a direct continuation of the starting situation. They haven't fallen into jealousy yet, partly because of my mod that doesn't allow autonomous interactions in the presence of other lovers. So I may create a situation where she discovers the flowers. They painted over most of the rooms, but not the entrance yet.

Peni Griffin 6th Feb 2025 3:33 PM

Lothario, like Casanova, is just a surname. Both surnames acquired the other meaning because one person bearing the name was so notorious.

I assume, by the way, that Don's middle name is Juan.

Sokisims 6th Feb 2025 3:47 PM

It always seemed so strange to me that Juan Tenorio was called "Don" in English xD Is that a name? It's as if his only name was something like "Mr". XD Don in Spanish means Mr, I don't know if it comes from Don Juan, an expression to refer to flirtatious men.

And in response to @sokisims - yes I think they named him Don Lothario in English to refer to two fictional characters.

Don in usually short for Donald in English, but as I mentioned it was probably chosen for Pleasantview's ever popular Dr. Sexy because of Don Juan, which is from a poem by Lord Byron, who was pretty darn notorious himself.

If not chosen due to Don Juan, it's a puzzling choice of name, because it's hard to think of a sexy Donald. The most famous Donald is probably Donald Duck, and the second person I think of with that name is former teen idol Donny Osmond, famous for his conservative blandness. If you look at teen idols as a group, they fall into two categories: "bad boys" who aren't really bad, and "cute boys" who are idealized ordinary teens, without the acne, fart jokes, and crude sexuality. Osmond was definitely on the "cute boy" spectrum. And I don't think anybody but Daisy Duck ever found Donald Duck sexy!

I'm suddenly obsessed with this style of building. With a wide sweeping staircase going up a floor and a hidden bookshelf door. I'm not sure why it's on my mind recently? It just is. Made the same design in Sims 2 and 3. Might try in Sims 4 aswell... but the hidden bookshelf door is locked behind career rewards there.

On the topic of Don, I now remember that it used to be part of my lore that one of his children with Nina was always called "Don Juan". xDD

jonasn 7th Feb 2025 2:55 AM

Don Lothario's name won't spread because he doesn't marry his women in general, and the children will have other names. His child with Dina is now a Goth because she made a successful deception.

marka93 7th Feb 2025 3:25 AM

I normally have Don Lothario marry Nina and both of them change there aspiration with Don getting Knowledge and Nina getting Fortune.
Both getting Family as there secondary aspiration.

That is after they both got there 3 Woohoo wants filled.

FranH 7th Feb 2025 4:34 AM

In Duma Key, Don's parents are still alive.

His father Nicolo is a total hounddog. He's been chasing after Frida Goth forever, and he's been caught at it repeatedly by his long suffering wife.

Don's not impressed but he does love his father. He vows not to be like him.

Also-he's now got a sister, Donna, who was conceived during one of those 'reconciliations' his parents had. (she has the weirdest hair for a kid, ever.)

Nina never clicked with me as a "romance" sim, at least how the game portrays the aspiration. IIRC she had been dating Don since they were teenagers and she never cheated on him.

Speaking of this, given how the game seems to portray a "romance" sim as being a casanova with multiple lovers on call at any given chance, the only premades that seem to fit this mold are Don Lothario and Romeo Monty. Ripp Grunt seems better suited for popularity/pleasure, Daniel Pleasant's affair suits a neglected husband having a midlife crisis rather than an aspiring man about town like Don or Romeo, and Miranda Capp seems like more of a knowledge/pleasure fit. Chloe Curious fits, but I feel like if pleasure was an option at the time, that would have been her's.

simsfreq 7th Feb 2025 11:38 AM

IMO the idea of all Romance sims being a player type with multiple lovers is much too narrow and when I played them like that, I rarely wanted to create one because it was too samey and boring.

I do think that Romance aspiration can be indicative of a high sex drive. But the way I play it now is that it indicates a desire to be attractive, which can manifest in different ways - maybe they do get validation from having multiple sexual partners or they are sexually adventurous, maybe they like being seen as a kind of "forbidden fruit" that others desire but can't touch, maybe they see their sex appeal as a kind of power/manipulation tool to get things that they want (most often in combo with fortune or pleasure aspiration), maybe they yearn to be the centre of attention, to be famous with adoring fans, (often in combo with popularity) maybe they are just really aesthetically minded and it brings them an enormous amount of pleasure to play with appearance and be beautiful or striking, they may extend this to their surroundings and be artistically inclined. Sometimes I see them as having really strong feelings which they mistake for love but while they mean well, they may be easily swayed feeling that it is "fate" or "meant to be".

They value beauty, attention, and physical affection.

The biggest Romance fears are around being rejected or unwanted or unattractive.

Essentially I play Romance now more like I previously used to play Popularity - it works much better Popularity I see as more a desire to fit in and be accepted socially. Their biggest fears are that people won't like them.

jonasn 7th Feb 2025 11:58 AM

I want to keep the aspirations of the starting characters as they are. They have precious few other details given.

The secret society ain't as secret as it used to be. We have taken it over and brought it into broad daylight. Lucy Burb thinks we shouldn't do that when coming to a party for a non-member.

https://i.imgur.com/52V507T.png

Trisha Traveller is still an ambassador for Downtown. She wanted to go on a date with Malcolm Landgrab again and again, and now she wants Archer Briarheart in the secret society where a taxi can't come. Maybe my mod needs to be looked at. She has John Burb and Jennifer Burb but they don't do these calls.
