If I turn off the sound, it seems that overloaded menus come up almost instantly. But with sound on there is a pause. The length of the pause doesn't really change.

I've been creating the city of SimCity within Cities Skylines 2, and it got me thinking, how exactly did SimCity become the cultural epicenter for our Sims' lives? You hear a lot about SimCity within TS1 and 2, but yet it still has an allure... a mystic aura. Not much seems to be known about this place even to our very own Sims.

I've played SC2, 3, and 4 but oddly enough I don't ever recall there actually being a premade city in those games called "SimCity". So, playing those don't really give full proper insight into why or how the city of SimCity itself became what it is.
All I can really gather from research is that the city of SimCity seems heavily based on San Francisco, as evident by Golden Gate bridge being depicted on SC2k's artwork and on a painting in TS2. It also seems to take some influences from Manhattan as evident by SC4 renders and the SC3k artwork. |
I might be mistaken but if I recall correctly "Sim City" is a neighbor to your city in Sim City 2000. If you face a disaster but doesn't have the means to fight it, Sim City sends troops to help you out. I think Sim City is also mentioned in the newspaper?

For some reason, I couldn't get any of my sims to change any of their clothes, which is something that I had never experienced. Last time I played, I was able to change my sims' clothes without any issues, as it should be, so I thought about whether I had done anything differently between the two game sessions, and the only thing I did was install these old scrubs for my sims: https://modthesims.info/d/170992/more-scrubs.html
I removed them from the game, and it fixed my problem. It's weird to me how some simple piece of custom content can suddenly break the game in weird ways. It reminded me of a party mod I downloaded that made my sims reset every time I hovered over the phone, of that shirt that makes dogs look like weird aliens |

Huh, that's weird. I never had any issues with those outfits (and I used them quite a bit back in the days, since medical stuff was pretty scarce). They're just plain recolors of a couple (un)hidden EAxis outfits, so there's no reason why they should be causing issues. But the game can act in strange ways. Some mods can interact with dressers - an older and not 100% compatible version of the PregWearAll mod combined with inteen can block everyday for adults for dressers (I've gotten rid of Inteen since, and have a different version of the other mod - but at the time I just learned to live with the issue, and used the Wardrobe Adjuster from Insim instead, because it is faster and has instant dressing-up, which is really useful for posing. Habits die hard, so dressers in my game are still mostly for decoration ![]() |
maybe is a conflict

I've had those scrubs for years and never had any problems. I vote for conflict.

Have you done anything with the big Latin/Arabic style building in Pleasantview? It is quite unwelcoming with all rooms exposed to the outdoors with arches, and little usable space overall. The first thing a visitor sees when entering it is toilets on either side. And one toilet has 3 doors, which presumably you have to lock every time you want to use it. It has a fireplace in a room that is also exposed to the outside. Clearly they don't use it for heat but maybe to burn secret documents. The building looks like it was taken from television and an organized crime boss lives there. Maybe in Acapulco H.E.A.T. I think someone must pay dearly to upkeep this building while it is empty.

Yes, there is a chair in the attic in an unpainted room. Also the solid grey fence is right at the sidewalk, and there is an empty tile all around the border. I wonder why old buildings have that, if it was not allowed to have a fence on the border. People walk there sometimes until it is walled off.
|
Are you talking about my favorite house in Pleasantview? Am I the only one who knows how to decorate it and make it functional? I don't understand why people hate it so much, I love it, especially the pool.

Show your decoration, please.

I don't have any currently played copies of Pleasantview, I haven't played the base game neighborhoods in years, but I've decorated that house at least 4 times in my life and I have some tricks, like closing some parts or making the rooms not open to the air. In Service Area I have some houses of that style, although in the new version I have edited them a lot since they were too big. Although I have to say that I found your comment to be a healthy provocation xD It makes me want to enter the game and decorate that damn house just so you can see it. xD
|
I'm evil. I bulldozed all those 'extra houses' the very first time I played PV and I removed the families from their houses to install into my customized houses.
No, I'm not ashamed of myself. I won't force myself to play those horribly designed and decorated monstrosities. I feel better for having told the truth. |
I no longer remembered those bathrooms at the entrance. XD I just entered the house, what I always liked is the structure and its potential, I suppose that I would do the same as always, close the dining room and perhaps create a new big room in that area discovered with a roof, I would also exchange the arches for windows, so the snow does not enter. I guess those of us who live in Mediterranean places like this type of house better, well furnished and reformed it was like the best mansion in the neighborhood, Dina always ended up living there. xDD

I converted it into a community lot IIRC because it seemed to work well that way. I closed off the toilets and made them more like public toilets. The long hallway thing is like a pool/pinball hall. There are more private nooks for socialising. A little BBQ hangout spot. The pleasantview teens love it.
The one in a similar style from the sim bin, I turned into a Greek House at university once. |

So did I. I even made apartments consisting of really cramped trailer houses where it once stood. Just so the poorer Sims can find some places to live without cashing 50 grands on a moderately spacious house I can only make nowadays. |
I really like the Forsythe Place for the king or queen of Pleasantview. Of course expanded with a second floor and maybe a basement. I had it in my old neighborhood where I used cheats to buy it. I never rebuilt it. The two-storey windows are a bit inconvenient because they connect the rooms on both floors together. I like how they gave room to expand within the limits of the existing shape. If I was a good builder, I would replace the Las Venturas / Los Santos palm tree side with stone buildings and more greenery.
At the very least the grey wall of the Latin/Arabic building needs to be moved one space further to decongest the road. I did a bit of experimentation with mods (on various unusual vacant lots), and of course they put a Drop Location of stuff somewhere on the lot's edge. Most other lots had this free edge: Goth house, Jacquet's plastic bakery, Landgrab's house. People usually lose something there. You can't place fence lamps on the very edge. Maybe there are other issues with that. But the benefits outweigh them. I think this architecture better fits Veronaville. |
I also loved that house, I used to place it near the Moroccan one.

I've come to appreciate the absolute accuracy that the designers of the game gave to the pool table. I've noticed that not only are the animations correct, how the game is played is 100% accurate.
You can actually follow the action and tell which move will complete the game and figure out who the winner will be. Now if they just had a bead counting rack to make it look authentic. |
