@kanzen Emotional abuse is every bit if not more damaging then physical abuse. We are all behind you. ((hugs))

broomhilda61 26th Feb 2018 9:00 AM

@kanzen..I am with Jo..it is way harder to get out of an emotional abusive relationship..than a physical one..it only took one hit to get out of mine..but took months or years to get out of the emotional ones..we/I am behind you all the way..
Back when this was happening to me..I didn't know about shelters and all my options..so call the police and they can take you to an abusive shelter for women or give you phone numbers to call..they are all over the US..not sure where you live..but if you live outside of the US I am sure they have them there as well..
If this is your place and the lease or home is in YOUR name you can have him removed and get a restraining order..sometimes that cost money but there are ways of getting one..but for now the best thing is to get yourself out of the home and work on getting it back in the future..let the landlord know and they can have him removed as well..and have him banned from the properties..
One time I had to leave town I was so afraid..was in the hospital for 2 weeks..when I got out I went back to get my things and found out that he had been standing there waiting for me..that whole time..
DON'T EVER feel guilty for wanting to leave..an abusive relationship whether it's physical or emotional..he will harm you either way..
I know all the words that are used in any kind of abuse.."I'm so sorry it will never happen again, You got me so angry that I lost my head for a second, I was angry at someone else and you were there, It will never happen again I promise" crap and that is just a few that these people use..
Be safe.. :lovestruc

@JustJones thank you so much for the help..I have them bookmarked..for this project and I am not going to put this in a building this time..
@yavannatw thank you so much for the help..I do have it bookmarked as well but that is to modern for this project need it more rustic..

I talked to gdayars and she is going to attempt this quest..and when she gets done I hope she will put it up for downloading here at MTS for everyone..I just have to remind her on Tuesday :D

gazania 26th Feb 2018 9:53 AM

kanzen, there is little more I can add. Like others here, I was in a emotionally-abusive relationship that messed me up for some time, even after the breakup. Please do what in your heart feels is the right thing for you.

Re some of the posts ... and a question ...

This is a bad side-effect of joining these contests ... you find so much more cool stuff. So let me get this straight ... if I want just the cake stand, I can download JUST the cake stand? Cool!

Also, what I did was to simply delete the lot with the photobomber and use my terrained lot. When I looked in the Characters file, I certainly found enough characters, and many were updated right after I quit out. I probably misinterpreted something. At any rate, since this lot did NOT have the bartender (though I did get the music out of the speaker ... again), and since I clean out Sim references before packaging anyway, I think I should be fine.

But before putting it in the copy of my hood with the Sims to test it again, do I need to remove the custom terrain? Or is it OK to leave it in, since I don't intend to delete it? To be honest, it would be a pain in the butt to have to re-terrain it again, and I already have the terrain in my good game.

Oh, and I'm now quite under budget. I forgot that most roller rinks did NOT have paneling around the rink area, used stucco, and that drove the cost down. So I might need to see if I can add anything, since now I have a few Simoleons to play with.

kanzen 26th Feb 2018 11:10 AM

Alright, I managed to break up peacefully with him. It was all very civil and nice - we thanked each other for the time we had and went our separate ways. Fortunately we're not living together or it could've been worse.
I was going to endure it a bit more - see if anything would change but everyone here along with my friends' advice have taken my rose-tinted glasses and helped me get through.

I'm not on the top of my game right now bet let's all go down giving our best shot =))
The playalongs are also being serious and I'm excited with what everyone comes up with. Brain of mine, pls come up with something awesome too!

I am so happy you are out of that relationship, @kanzen - you are a talented and bright young person and you certainly do not need anyone to abuse you around you. It probably will be hard for some time, but you will find the courage to deal with it. I left such a relationship when I was 22 years old. If I did not, I would never have met my late husband (2 years later) Wishing you the best for the future!

My lot is ready, I am going to take screenshots later. @gdayars, I really appreciate the lot sizes and the generous budgets - it does make it easier to do a number of things and I have enjoyed myself tremendously (not to mention, of course, that my downloads folder has probably doubled in size).

Coffee at the fermented fruit juice bar for contestants (and everyone else) today - fermented, of course

broomhilda61 26th Feb 2018 1:04 PM

kanzen I am so glad you got out of it peacefully..and don't jump into another relationship right away...take your time for your heart and mind to heal..

That's cool Justpetro that you have yours done..I can't wait to see them after I get mine in..

I'm going to work on everything else except that food thing..

I haven't drank coffee in almost 37 years..when I got pregnant with my oldest I got sick even on the smell..I will just take an orange juice..lol..

maxon 26th Feb 2018 3:33 PM

mmmm coffeeeeeeeee

CatherineTCJD 26th Feb 2018 5:18 PM

Sosuke's Mom!!! Love your new avi, Kanzen
{{{hugs}}} Be strong. Do what YOU need to do.
...just sayin'

@SparkySays - It was 82 here yesterday (74 at night.) 80 is about as hot as I can take it without the AC on. BUT - this is February! The hottest Feb on record. Where's our one last cold-snap? Geesh! I don't usually have to turn on the AC until the end of April

Karen Lorraine 26th Feb 2018 5:48 PM

@CatherineTCJD can we swap please? It's 3C here and below 0C at night! I want warm!

CatherineTCJD 26th Feb 2018 5:59 PM

LOL Karen! If we swapped - I'd spend all my time about 400 miles N of you (and I think it would be safer to wander the moors in warmer weather?)
But, you're welcome to come here for a visit

kanzen 26th Feb 2018 6:51 PM

@CatherineTCJD I LOVE SOOOOOOUSKE hahaha
it was the only calm tea drinking gif I could find since my old avi was so ancient I can't find it on google anymore!

Tonight's rough, no exchanging goodnights and I can't sleep cos my head's filled with what ifs but I'll manage. Heck I think I've got a real wanderlust going on. I just wanna go somewhere far and peaceful---but I'm broke hahhaha

looks like I'm already inspired for round3! A hotel so cheap, hermits like me can get away from it all! ah but before that I gotta get through this round hahahaha

yavannatw 26th Feb 2018 10:15 PM

I'm glad you didn't wait for change, kanzen. It never does. I was in one of those relationships (married, in fact, to an emotional abuser) and it just drags you down and reduces your self-worth. It took a few years for me to get back on track.
If you've got a car - take a ride to the seaside and sleep in the car, if necessary. There are places you can go when broke. If not, dream, and spoil yourself.

kerri191 27th Feb 2018 1:20 AM

This is crazy. I never even considered that I would be thinking too small.

Back to the drawing board. I may go to my previous idea...

Aw thank you, Cat, if I had the funds I would, but sadly having been made redundant I won't be able to I do have a new job but it pays £5000 less per year!

I just talked to gdayars..and she says that food thing is to modern to recolor the way I want/need..so I am back to rethinking.. my dead brain is hurting..

Entry: Round 2: Tropical: Beach Bar

16 Attachment(s)
Once upon a time the Rodneys went to Southern Africa. And Cyril Rodney fell in love with the beach bars, especially those in Mozambique and South Africa. He especially liked the family friendly ones, with the pools, playgrounds and BBQ's. And then he discovered beach bars where no oceans were in sight. So one morning, after another roof raiser party, Cyril and Ruda planned their inland beach. There would be a sparkling pool for swimming, a bar, a BBQ, a stereo (Ruda had the skills to teach the Hula to everyone); a dart board, a playground for children and special pools and a room for toddlers. They would bring in enough sea sand to build a proper beach and add some tropical plants. With a mod or two visitors can even build sandcastles and suntan! So, voila! Welcome to the African inspired Beach Bar Cyril built!

bbostic8 27th Feb 2018 10:02 PM

Ooooh, pretty, @justpetro! I love, love, LOVE your coral forest and your landscaping with the palm and fern clusters. I also think that your use of the thatched hut roofs is really inspired and unique! I especially love the four small hut roofs over the tops of the bathrooms (I think they are). Your lot looks like the nicest place to bum around for an afternoon and take in some drinks (fermented juice?). Great job!

gdayars 27th Feb 2018 10:13 PM

Fantastic job @Justpetro !

Justpetro 28th Feb 2018 6:27 AM

Thank you bbostic8 and gdayars I did enjoy building it.

Back to the Fermented Fruit Juice Bar I go then, time to restock!

kanzen 28th Feb 2018 7:31 AM

It looks so cool @Justpetro well done
I definitely wanna lounge around in there

broomhilda61 1st Mar 2018 1:58 AM

Justpetro..I love, love your entry..it's beautiful..

I have been searching, downloading and placing things on the lot to put where I want them..but I literately have no inspiration at this point..my brain has gone totally dead..I am so glad we have just over 10 days to get this in..even our B.A.D. contest at CBS is well I haven't even started that one and it's due on the 8th..no inspiration at all..

I think I am going to have to walk away from these for a few days..and maybe just maybe it will all come together..I think I am going to dig through my non Sims games and download one of them ..and get my head cleared..

Been so stressed out and sick..I am living in a mold, mildew and mushroom infested slum apartment..I moved in here in December and they are just now starting to get it..I had to write a letter to the landlord AND Section 8..to get them to get a move on..I am sooo allergic to mildew and mold..waiting on an appointment to see an allergist..can't afford to stay and can't afford to move..I'm stuck..also have been looking for another apartment..with no luck except a long waiting list..

So my mojo and inspiration is gone right now..

I will be back..

Have a great day everyone..

Charmful 1st Mar 2018 3:10 AM

Good luck Broomhilda! Ugh I'm allergic to mold too and I can't imagine that is any kind of pleasant living conditions

broomhilda61 1st Mar 2018 4:24 AM

Thank you Charmful..

The worse part is I left my family in Boonville so I could get out of a roach infested dump and with no Section 8 housing there I moved to Jefferson City where the housing was for Section 8..and now in this mess..lost everything I owned..and so did my 2 sons..when they were living there..we are all 3 starting over..and now this..

This place really looked nice..when you first walked in..they had done a lot of cosmetic work to hide the real issues..

Well it's almost 9:30pm and I am so tires so off to bed..for a few hours..can't sleep for very long at one time..but will check in to see the entries..I know what I want to do..a petting zoo..just getting the inspiration to do it..is way off right now..

In the meantime, how do you feel about red velvet cake martinis at the fermented fruit juice bar?

gdayars 1st Mar 2018 7:24 AM

(((big hugs))) broomhilda; I hope things get resolved soon

gazania 1st Mar 2018 5:37 PM

I haven't forgotten the contest. But a LOT has happened lately. A lot. And I'm trying to take it all in.

Is there a quick and dirty way to recolor something? I'm not looking for technical excellence. I just want to make the pink in the roller-skating sign I put on my lot (it was some time back, but believe me ... it was pink!) just a little less pink.

I KNOW I did it for something else some time ago, and it really wasn't hard. I just want to try to soften that pink a little, or put in a different hue to go more with the 70s-ish color scheme. I do not have any fancy-schmancy color editing tools ... just GIMP or IRFanView. If I recall ... this was almost a decade ago ... it involved lots of importing and exporting.

Karen Lorraine 1st Mar 2018 6:29 PM

Photoshop CS2 is free if you want to try that?

gazania 1st Mar 2018 6:44 PM

Actually, it was quicker and dirtier than I thought. The person made it off a Maxis mesh. I switched color values, and at least it doesn't scream "PINK!" as much.

I have to admit ... I am really not a fan of pink, except hot pink. And pink, burnt orange, gold and avocado just don't play nicely together. I may mess around a little more with color values, though.

HOWEVER ... and this is a big however ... I want to double-check the creators TOU to make sure I'm not being rude. Lot creators need to mind manners!

Next is to see if I can better address a huge gap between the overhead roller rink lights and the ceiling. Since I did a simple split level and a dummy ceiling, the gap looks pretty awful. For now, I've snap_objected the crepe mesh I found on TSR that I used in Naftali between the lamp and the ceiling (https://www.thesimsresource.com/art...set/id/224153/), and though it looks a little unusual, at least doesn't highlight the big gap. And it doesn't light up! But if I can find another lamp that could fill in that space (and remember to turn the lights off), it might work better. If I can't find anything, though, I'll leave the crepe streamers.

I have found that very, very little seems to work to address that gap (so far, the only thing close was the streamer hanging), but maybe a 15th look or so might yield some results.

Justpetro 1st Mar 2018 8:49 PM

Hi, @gazania, I thought you were absent at the fruit juice bar Good to see you around.

Phaenoh 1st Mar 2018 10:14 PM

I also have been MIA, cuz things have been really busy for me lately. I expect everything to calm back down here shortly and then I'll get my Round 1 and 2 Playalongs up for y'all. It's just that I've got big plans and no time right now. :/

sooo...I finished my lot, then put a copy into the housing bin and when I took it back out to place it in the exact same spot so I can start taking pics where it was fine before, it suddenly won't let me? What's up with that? :/

Edit: After freaking out for five minutes - moved all deco AWAY from lot spot. Didn't work. Used the terrain cheat. Didn't work. Went into another lot, saved, and returned. Didn't work. WENT TO A DIFFERENT SUBHOOD AND CAME BACK???Mission accomplished.

Justpetro 2nd Mar 2018 7:16 AM

Glad it did work in the end Sometimes, the game can freak one out.

I think Malcolm is going to need a fermented fruit juice (or 2) after what he is going through

The Lost Ruins of Rhumm Kaaz - Tropical

18 Attachment(s)
Round 2: Entertainment Lot

It is well known that there were ancient civilizations building on Twikkii far before the tourist industry boomed. We can attribute this fact to the Ruins of Numchuck and Jumbok IV, and while those are 'Ancient' and 'Majestic', Wanderlust Inc. is excited to reveal the Lost Ruins of Rhumm Kaaz - a piece of history found preserved in the Island's Mountains. There's a twist to Rhumm Kaaz however - they are the Twikkian deity of natural revelry and nowadays the main demographic of visitors that fit that sphere of influence are the Spring Breakers from all across Sim Nation and beyond. Wanderlust Inc. has fused the ruins into the island's epicenter of late night revelry - not only is the area prime for explorers and history buffs, but those who like to party as well!

The temple seems to be constructed on a natural spring which feeds into surrounding ponds, plenty of waterfalls surround the exterior, causing a cooling effect on the interior of the temple. It has been overtaken by many plants and time has taken it's toll but has overall been generous in preserving the structure. It has three rooms - the entrance foyer, the throne room, and the alter room.

Visitors are urged to come in good weather as the rustic ruins are not immune to leaking during heavy rainstorms, however since much of the roof is in tact, there are places one can stay dry if needed. Lighting is sparse due to the rural location and unreliable power so most light is supplemented with standing torches or battery powered string lights or lanterns. Visitors must walk to the ruins as there is no road for vehicles to drive that far into the mountains. This is not a place for pampered party animals but those intrigued by local history, enamored with nature, and who adore a fun time!

***Some edits from initial post***
  • In test play, the way the chairs were arranged in the initial lounge pictures were not usable, because they were on quarter tile placement. I turned that cheat off and moved around the seating arrangement in the Altar room lounge, test played and now the current arrangement works
  • In test play, the Alter room bar was initially arranged in a way that sims could only sit in the front two bar chairs and in one instance the sim got stuck in between bar chairs and could not get out. So I re-arranged the bar, tested and now sims are able to move around and sit in whatever chair they want.
  • Sims have enough room to dance in front of the DJ booth in test play
  • Sims like to play kicky bag in the area between the food stand and bar
  • You will note I do not have a phone in my pictures, I feel this mucks up the isolated aesthetic for the lot. However, in play testing I could get sims to go and leave as easily as if there were a phone by using the 'walk to...' option when I click on them.
  • Due to changes for the placement of lounge and bar area I have updated post and attached photos and re-took a pricing shot as well since that changed too.

Round 2 Entry ~ Entertainment Lot/Water Park ~ Tropical

Water Parks abound here in Simtral Florida. This one, which Cat built for Malcolm Landgraab in Bluewater Village, features a unique water slalom course under lush overhanging tropical plants, with fun sprinkler fountain obstacles at every turn.

After the rush of swimming the water slalom, spend some time relaxing on our white sandy beach, digging for treasure, or snuggling with a loved one under the pier.

Night time brings a different 'after dinner' crowd who enjoy taking the evening air under the stars on the pier. We have a full service bar, chess tables, and a live DJ - with dance competitions every night.

This is a regular 4X3 (non beach) lot - I used Tiko's Creating Coastal Lots tutorial to allow the sea to enter the lot. Sims can walk/wade through the water, but they can't swim in it like they can on a regular beach lot. I built it like this to meet the lot-size requirement.

I also used Inge Jones' Swimsuit Sign to ensure visitors would wear the appropriate attire.

Justpetro 2nd Mar 2018 7:52 PM

That is pretty amazing, Cat Not only is it very pretty, but I am amazed by how good those blue Maxi tiles look! Malcolm is one lucky Sim!

So Charmful, Cat and I will be in the Fermented Fruit Juice Bar

CatherineTCJD 2nd Mar 2018 8:05 PM

LOL - Thanks, Petro. Make mine a double (again!)

Hey! I was just scrolling through and revisiting this whole thread... Does anyone have any idea why my first entry - the Trail's End Eats - would have 2 'disagree' votes? (It's towards the bottom of page 4.) What is there to disagree with? I'm sure I say a lot of disagreeable things from time to time, but that's a contest entry... I didn't make any statements to disagree with (unless it's Don Lothario himself, and he lied when he told me his Lobster Thermidor was tasty!) Now, if it was a 'dislike' button that would make more sense (it would be incredibly rude, but it would make sense.) I don't get it???!? *sigh*

Charmful 2nd Mar 2018 8:21 PM

Thanks all! I really struggled with this actually - the budget was generous but decorating a full blown jungle temple takes a LOT of plants! I also lament the picture limit because I had some other great shots that didn't make the cut! Edit: Or are we allowed to composite them @gdayars?

I feel Like i have too much fermented juice and i haven't even begin lol. (BT dubs I am all about long Islands) Forst of all I am getting confused about lot sizes as I go through and read because it says 40 x 50 on my spec pic, 40 x 40 on JP's and and 50x30 on Cat's so it's like where is the truth to lot sizes for this round of 3x5/5x3?

Also Cat, I went back and found what you were talking about (though it was Page 8 for me, not sure if you can change posts per page prefs somewhere or what) and the only thing I can think of to why someone would disagree on your entry is that you edited in labels and did a two-for-one pic composite which at some point in the thread IIRC it was discussed that wasn't allowed. I personally like your labels and think they are helpful but otherwise the statements are objective and can't see why that would be disagreeable.

CatherineTCJD 2nd Mar 2018 8:34 PM

Quote: Originally posted by Charmful

What do you mean "Labels"? Do you mean my adding text to the pictures, like I would in an upload? I don't remember reading anywhere in this thread that that wasn't allowed? If it isn't, then I'm really in trouble this round - doubly so for insetting/collaging a few pictures. Are we NOT allowed to do that? @gdayars
I thought we were to follow upload guidelines for pictures?

As to lot size: I go by what the lot size says it is in the bin, before placing it in the hood. Once it is place in a hood the game adds 10 tiles to cover the road. Right? Or, did I do that wrong too? I'm sooo confuzzled now...

As discussed earlier: http://modthesims.info/showthread.p...726#post5338726

Charmful 2nd Mar 2018 8:45 PM

Hey Cat, the info could have been ret-conned when gdayars added in pic clarifications sometime in the middle of round 1. I thought the composite pics were disallowed because it was a way to get around the 'picture limit' of 10 additional shots. Sorry to worry you but it might be good if the host clarifies that part. And yes, by labels I meant the text adding you did, since somewhere in the rules it mentioned no photo shopping - though I think that means more like 'don't artificially pretty up your shots' not 'don't make helpful labels'.

Anyway I went back and found some other posts after I was confused the first time about lot sizes and it was mentioned the game adds 10 extra to the LAST number in a X by X lot so we may just have all our lots the right size but the specs are all you get a 10! You get a 10! on different orientations. Though you would think there would only be two variants and all three are different. Edit: You found it!

Justpetro 2nd Mar 2018 8:46 PM

I think we need to down some doubles right now.

The lot size is correct, Cat. The 10 tiles is right. The rules state that both sizes are allowed - with or without the lot adjustor. My lot size is the same as yours, out of the bin.
Your pics have always met the upload guidelines, so I can't see why there should be a problem with it. As far as I understand, the pics need to meet the guidelines. They are clear and one can see everything one needs to see! That is how I see it.
Perhaps @gadyars can confirm for us?

I am pouring the doubles in the meantime

yavannatw 2nd Mar 2018 10:12 PM

Wow, you guys have upped the ante with your entries, showing off your building skills. Perfect for the adventure/travel theme too! Well done!

gdayars 2nd Mar 2018 10:14 PM

Can you see the pictures well? and what you are trying to see in them? Like are floor plans close up? Trees obstructing view of the front part of the lot? that sort of thing. If the judges can see what they need to see, that is all that matters Even photoshopped pics are allowed in queue, as long as they don't obstruct what the product looks like.

edited to add, Please make sure walls are up in floorplans

and by photoshopped I don't mean make brighter etc. but labels, as long as they are not obstructive are allowed.

CatherineTCJD 2nd Mar 2018 10:19 PM

Whew! Thank you, gdayars - I was having trouble breathing there for a while
Now I really am gonna get myself a cool beverage...

gdayars 2nd Mar 2018 10:23 PM

Double posting to say those are fine Cat and Charmful IF you want to do a collage that is fine, just please don't do a collage of the mandatory pictures UNLESS they are big enough to see everything that needs to be seen, and be seen well (like ginormous pics ) HUGE Ginormous pics there is really no upper limit unless the pictures are so big modyourpanties won't host it :D

Charmful 2nd Mar 2018 10:32 PM

Thanks for clearing that up gdayars! I might inset a few of my other shots to existing pics now that I know that's allowed for sure - but on the supplementary shots of the lot, not required ones

kerri191 2nd Mar 2018 11:19 PM

Wow. Just wow. The entries up so far are pretty amazing. Nice work!

I'm mired in schoolwork at the moment, but I plan to work on my entry over the weekend in between study sessions. Hopefully, I'll have it up early next week.

gazania 3rd Mar 2018 2:41 AM

Disagrees? Seriously? Maybe they're restaurant critic Sims.

OK, this has been bothering me for a long time ... how do you prevent Sims from swimming UP a waterslide instead of down? Mine seem determined to do it the hard way on the county fairgrounds in my custom vacation hood!

I got 2 disagrees on my judge application I figured it was either a troll, or someone who doesn't like me, and either way that's not really my concern so who cares?

Quick tips as the round 2 entries are coming in: If I can't see it, I can't judge it. Don't cut off parts of your building in the required shots, and double and triple and quadruple check you've showed off all your things with good clear well-zoomed pictures before you go for decorative shots. Do you have potential playability questions? Remember that it's up to you to make sure your pictures give us all the information we need to judge playability. Perhaps a picture that includes a Sim using the questionable object so there's no room for doubt. Or an extra line of text explaining things reliant on mods/objects that we might not be familiar with. SEP and corner counters anyone?

Ooops! Sorry! I fixed the link in my entry/post to this one: https://www.thesimsresource.com/tut...0Coastal%20Lots
that should work better (The one you posted is a direct download link - I'm not sure that's allowed in the forums?)

@Gummi - I agree with you re: the disagree-ers
I just thought it was a bit strange *shrug*
AND - as too photoing objects working... that's why I wanted to show the "slide" progression and the DJ booth working (the booth has walkthrough blocks aiding the DJ - he was a bit stompy...)

@Gazania - I micromanaged him - he didn't have a chance to swim the "wrong" way.

Cool.
Surely a PDF is fine - it's not a download of cc content.

Justpetro 3rd Mar 2018 7:35 AM

Tea? I guess I could get some from one of the oriental restaurants

Freelala 3rd Mar 2018 8:18 AM

DRINKS *grabby hands*

I think my lot is done. Going to sleep on it, and depending on how I feel in the morning, I'll either do a few little landscaping tweaks or raze it to the ground. Hopefully it'll be the first and I'll have pics up by the end of the weekend.

gdayars 3rd Mar 2018 8:24 AM

@celebkiriedhel I am glad you popped in to let us know

kanzen 3rd Mar 2018 4:17 PM

i ended up making a hotel room instead oh noooooo kanzen get your head outta the clouds!!!

seven deeeeeeyzzz

Justpetro 3rd Mar 2018 5:20 PM

I am sure a hotel room can be entertaining There is tea at the fermented fruit juice bar. Earl Grey tea, ginger tea, and, for some reason, the restaurants donated a whole bunch of green tea

gazania 3rd Mar 2018 5:46 PM

Hotels.

Shudders. Yet I intend to do one for one of the last two rounds; probably a beach one. I've pretty much hinted as such. I must be a masochist.

I will tell you right now that it won't be an elaborate one. When I did the Yurt campground (think glamping) years back, the original lot was more elaborate (well, in my judgment ... compared to a Red Sonja or Voielle hotel, it's a kindergarten project!), and I had loads of problems with the infamous Freezy. You really do have to make sure that every square on a hotel lot is Freezy-proofed. Every freakin' square! I will give the Yurt campground (Glampground?) credit, though. It taught me lots of good tips re that housekeeper and how to keep it from being immobile.

It also gave me lots of good tips re landscaping. The original lot was loaded with wildflowers, mushrooms and trees. It even had the animated owl on Affinity Sims. (The lot has a forest setting, and is in my mountain vacation hood.) Boy howdy, did it lag! The version I use has fewer wild plants, but it works. Ah ... sometimes form loses to function. Unfortunately it also might have killed my desire for more-detailed landscaping. The owl stayed, though. I like the owl.

Anyway, since I love punishment, I'm aiming for the hotel. Maybe some tea with blackberry brandy for the next round, please. How much blackberry brandy remains to be seen! However, if I don't feel up to it, I might go for a vacation lot house. I'll see.

I am almost done with the rink. Probably as desert-like as a poorly-constructed Hollywood set, but my Sims like it. Removing the extra arcade machines and one vending machine seemed to at least ensure that a couple of townies actually GO on the rink during a Sim visit instead of congregate at the juice bar (it's juice ... really!), vending machines and arcade. I'm going to do a quick look, though, and see if there are decorative versions of the game machines and vending machines. If I can find one or both, I may stick one or two on the lot to encourage more skating. (An arcade machine can be out of order!) I haven't seen any in all the years I've done community lots. Doesn't mean they don't exist.

Also, I decided not to grungify or age it. Probably a mistake, but I like the lot without the stains and cracks.

kanzen 3rd Mar 2018 9:45 PM

@gazania ever thought of making a Freezy Hotel? hahahah it's 99.9% Freezy proof!!!

@Justpetro green tea is my jam! I drink a cup of matcha everyday~

yavannatw 3rd Mar 2018 11:44 PM

So I finally got to my PC to upload my entry but there's no option to attach pictures suddenly (see screen capture). Umm...? It's showing up properly on my mobile but not PC (Firefox or Chrome). I don't get it.

joandsarah77 4th Mar 2018 12:57 AM

I had that recently I had to update something. I think it was adobe or flash.

SparkySays 4th Mar 2018 1:59 AM

*checks timer* oh good, some time left yet. I have been so slammed lately I haven't even had time to start. I'm helping a friend with her campaign for state house and the endorsing convention is coming up sooooo lots to do.

I have an amazing idea in my head though! We'll see if I can bring it to fruition over the next week.

bbostic8 4th Mar 2018 4:01 AM

@SparklySays, good on you! I'm all for women representing more and more politically, and I hope all goes well for her. Good luck on your build, too!

CatherineTCJD 4th Mar 2018 7:06 PM

Whew! *wipes sweat off brow*
I just gotta "alert the media" here...

I joined this contest to kick my sim-behind in the rear (and kick my DA:I habit into it's proper place - which is after TS2!)
And, I must say, it's working Since this contest started I've built the 2 contest pieces, rehabbed one EAxis fail, and built 2 new "from scratch" houses. PLUS, I've uploaded 4 new lots here on MTS2.

...Now - have I done any actual "work" (see sigi) No. But, the Christmas rush is long over - I can spend a few months playing - right?
Petro - Can I have some of Kanzen's matcha? Please? Thanks

Justpetro 4th Mar 2018 8:31 PM

Yes, you can - we have more than enough green tea

My Adobe Flash is up-to-date but still a blank. It seems a couple of others are having the same problem (Site questions and issues).
Might have to use postimage or something.

gdayars 4th Mar 2018 10:53 PM

Sorry guys I did a simple file move...
and merged with my user account accidentally on my computer.

I have been at it for 16 hours and counting to fix it. It looks like I will be just getting a bigger hard drive and reinstalling windows UGH.

I am functional, but in precarious waters... so that is why I havent been around.

Sunbee 5th Mar 2018 1:02 AM

Hey y'all, I have no idea where we're at with this-my 79 year old Dad fell and broke four ribs on his cane head last Saturday. He spent a couple days in the hospital-warfarin patient-but got super lucky to not have any internal bleeding, and so far no pneumonia. Plus he forgot to get his oil changed and his truck engine died, so we have two vehicles for four adult drivers (ten family members). My husband has a thirty mile commute, so with trading off cars differently than usual, it's been quite the week.
Anyway, I've got my game up for the first time in a week and going to see what I'm building. I think it was a country dance club . . .

joandsarah77 5th Mar 2018 1:22 AM

My dad is also in hospital right now after having a fall and I am looking after my mum so if I am scarce, that is why.

Round two playalong: Nightclub; mountain

16 Attachment(s)
I don't know what's going on with Firefox that I can't upload pictures. I couldn't with Chrome either but randomly today the attachment box suddenly reappeared, so here's my entry - a three-storey night club with glass elevator overlooking waterfalls, hence the name "Falls Nightclub". You may not be able to see clearly but there are glass doors out to the balconies.

Exterior shots

Floor plans

Interior

and finally, the neighbourhood view of the falls.

Round 2 - Entertainment - Tropical

For the enjoyment of our smaller sims, I give you: Jungle Jim's Tropical Playground!

It was no secret that Jim Green loved the tropics. Over his years of leading rainforest conservation activities, collecting rare tropical flowers, and wearing Hawaiian shirts year-round, he became affectionately known as "Jungle Jim." He always dreamed of retiring to paradise, and when he finally did, he found that his grandchildren had nowhere to play when they came to visit. So, with the help of other members of the community, he built a playground that would provide hours of entertainment for kids of all ages. Sadly, Jungle Jim passed away before its completion. His friends and family named the playground after him to carry on his legacy.

Front of lot:

Oh MY! @Jo and @Sunbee - I was supposed to call my parents today, but put it off (I hate using the %@#$% phone!) BUT, ...now I think I'll call them! 8:30pm is not too late. I'm calling now

Gdayars - been there. Sorry you have to go through it too. Good Luck!

yavannatw and FreeLala - lookin' good there!

What is it about these contests that brings out the real life Drama? I recall lots of illness and general trauma last year during your foundation contest, too.

That playground is great! :lovestruc I hope they have a child-minding service so parents can park the kids and go off for a romantic evening at one of the sites the kids consider "boring."

My ice rink will just have to be cheap. Since I wanted it to be a primarily outdoor venue, I used a CC skating pond which is a lot cheaper than the Maxis rinks. I could pile on more trees, but padding the lot just to use up the budget would spoil it. But the real test is yet to come - if I take sims there, will they, in fact, skate?

joandsarah77 5th Mar 2018 2:51 AM

Thanks for the thoughts. My dad didn't break any bones but they think he had internal bleeding into his groin so that he can't walk. He fell down Friday and has been in hospital over the weekend. it's Monday now and the physio will be seeing him today. My dad will be 89 in April but unfortunately we don't have the room here to care for him (mum is on a trundle bed as it is) so I am guessing they will keep him in since he looks after himself as well as my mum. Not easy.

Round 2 Playalong: Ke Ola Brewing Comapany (Tropical)

Round 2: Ke Ola Brewing Company

When it's dark out and the beach has cooled, travelers and locals alike can find a spot to eat, drink, and take in the sounds of the surf -- as well as the band! Come to Ke Ola Brewing Company, a paradise all its own. If it's entertainment you crave, Ke Ola has a bar with several house brews on tap, as well as a flat screen television to fill in all those awkward silences between you and your party, or even that cute stranger you keep trying (and failing, miserably) to talk to. Strike out with that charming stranger? No problem! You can stoke the flames of your ego with a game of pool in the adjacent lounge area and feel like the champion you are. Now, should you succeed, the outdoor deck overlooking the crystalline waters of Ke Ola's pond is the perfect spot to pop that perennial question with its floating water lilies and low lighting, enshrouded in greenery.

Not ready for that commitment? Ke Ola's got your back. Stroll across the pond on the bamboo bridge by lamplight and find yourself on the dining patio. Listen as the house band plucks their strings and hums rhythmically into the mic, filling the space with glorious sound. Take a seat to take in the show, grab a local delicacy to sate your hungry belly, or even grab another drink beside the sweet hibiscus and curly tendrils of passion fruit. Ke Ola Brewing Company has all the romance, entertainment, and relaxation anyone could ask for, so grab a drink and find a seat. We've always got room for good friends.

Strongs, Jo and Sunbee.

The entries are pretty and it looks so colourful! Great job, everyone.

OnayaW 5th Mar 2018 8:49 AM

I've been taking a break from building ;w;
I needed it, but I'm gonna built my entry today because the next few days are just trial exams

SparkySays 5th Mar 2018 8:00 PM

@bbostic8 how do you get your water to look like that?

joandsarah77 5th Mar 2018 10:56 PM

Now they are saying he may have a hairline fracture on the pelvis since he still can't walk, he is having another scan today. :/

@SparkySays that's the water mod, a lot of us are using it. http://modthesims.info/d/587597

Round 2 Entry - Desert Bowling Alley

11 Attachment(s)
Y's Bowl-A-Rama

A week ago, I went bowling for the first time in my life and I had a blast! I'll definitely repeat the experience. Inspired by said outing, as well as by The Sim Supply's Bowled Over Challenge, I decided to build my own bowling alley for the second round of this contest. So here it is, Y's Bowl-A-Rama!

Designed to look like a shadow coming out of the ground in the blazing sun of Strangetown, Y's Bowl-A-Rama tries to mix contemporary architecture with the traditional "boxy" look of a bowling alley. Rest your eyes from the sunlight in its dark exterior and hop inside for a night of fun! We feature 4 lanes for your enjoyment, a foosball table and some darts, as well as a bar where you can sip all the fermented juice you want. Don't let the black walls scare you - the inside is cool due to our state of the art refrigerating system. So come on in to Y's Bowl-A-Rama, and we'll remind you that you're not actually that good a bowler.

I hope you find Y's Bowl-A-Rama a fun place to cool down during those hot Strangetown days!

P.S. The Water Mod is still not working for me. Can anyone help me out?

gdayars 6th Mar 2018 3:00 AM

"checks in" I will be adding all the lots to the board between tonight and tomorrow

We are just short of 6 days people! Time to start your engines! if you haven't already

gdayars 6th Mar 2018 3:33 AM

Double posting to add. All caught up!

If you do NOT see yours listed on the table, and you have done your post on your lot, please let me know!

OnayaW 6th Mar 2018 7:05 PM

Idk what to do
I’m all blank really /-\’
I try and try and yet nothing satisfy me
At the current moment I can like
Chose an Asian tea and massage house or a Forrest ground with tents and fishing and that but that would be stupid to since that’s more just a normal lot really (already done it once)

Justpetro 6th Mar 2018 7:13 PM

What inspires you? Tea, walks, drinks at the Fermented Fruit Juice Bar?
Don't worry, most of us have been there. Go and do something else, something you like to do. Sometimes thought processes need breaks too.

I'm basically done but how do I get rid of this?! They keep popping up in random places whenever I load the lot. I managed to get rid of the others but this is just stubborn

OnayaW 6th Mar 2018 7:44 PM

I went with a spa and tea house. It was really the only thing there came to my mind and I guess it is entertaining? Well one real life when people visit Asia they do visit the spas and teas houses or have I just watched too much travel tv
Never been there so it will be a round for me where I am in a blank area
I know what I wanna build for a hotel though xD

And if nothing else fishing
I don’t want to use the mountain/country before the hotel and I want the tropical for a beach lot /w\’

You're probably going to have to use CFE to flatten that area, then delete it like deleting a floor tile (with 'ctrl' and 'any floor tile')
If you've got something using that tile - like a light or another object - then you may need to use an invisible floor tile to hide it (Frillen here on MTS has a great one I use .) Good Luck!

On second thought - after re-looking at the pix - try CFE and put a 2 story column there... that should make it flat to delete, then fix whatever CFE messed up.

broomhilda61 6th Mar 2018 10:49 PM

Well I have 5 more days..and I have finally gotten my mojo and inspiration back..got it almost done..then went in to test play..and well dang it..one of my sections I was going to put up stalls and have a place where people can buy things..so I put up a bit of toys and well can't click on them..I know how to do this with a home business but not a community log..???? Everything else is working but this..

What can I put there for people to buy..???

Any suggestions would be great thank you for your help..

I see a lot of members already have theirs up..wow..and can't wait to see what they have come up with..I am doing a petting zoo..in the desert..

kanzen 6th Mar 2018 11:12 PM

@CatherineTCJD I tried that last night as well...that's how I got rid of most of them. The others are merely just deleting the floortile. I let my game sleep for the night, maybe it will be good to me in the morning quq

fingers crossed!!!
