Does anyone else really, really hate Monte Vista? The map is really awful when you want to get anywhere in a hurry, you can hardly build anything in it because everything's so stylized, and it's incredibly buggy to the point where achievements cancel themselves without provocation!
Though I love the wood oven so much. So very much. |

Today I discovered that no matter how many times I dismiss the same annoying roommate, the game will assign her to me again at 9 am the next day. I think I may need more homeless people in town to pick from.

I added a Sims as a roommate who was an NPR (maid) but I can't control him. His portrait does not appear in the panel. He's engaged to my Sim but uncontrollable due to said issue. Is there anything I can do "to control him?" Unfortunately my sim is kind of shy so she has to marry this guy before she becomes old. Any advice?

What you would have to do if you don't want to replay all of this is dismiss the roommate and immediately, before he has a chance to wander away, get him to move in as a fellow resident either by social interaction, testingcheat, or by using NRaas MasterController's Add Sim command. You will also probably want to call up the town's Roommate Service after the dismissal and cancel it so they don't send another NPC roommate over as a replacement the next morning, unless you want that as well. Note that regardless, he won't be a Service Sim (maid) any longer. |
Hey Guys, were desks affected by the Pets update?
I recently downloaded an old set and the computer wants to sit on the floor instead of on the desk.... This is the set, if you are curious. https://www.thesimsresource.com/art...ing/id/1001230/ If the Pets update was the problem does anybody have a link to a tutorial showing me how to update such a thing. Thanks. |

Is there any program that can locate corrupt packages? Not inside of sim3pack, but just in Mods\Packages. I'm so sad now, my game won't start, and it seems like various sliders randomly crash it. I tried redownloading, but it helped only temporarily. And without sliders there's no TS3, because my sims won't look like they should

@Babahara, http://modthesims.info/d/387006 this is really useful for lots of things , including finding corrupted packages as you mentioned.
|
Here is some additional info about Dashboard and the files it's scanning that I found helpful at the archived Simlogical site.
There is no substitute though for the 50/50 method because Dashboard can't find everything. With that method you take out half your mods and see if you can start the game. If you can, then remove all those mods and put in the other 50%. If no you can't start your game, then take out half of those mods. Rinse and repeat until you isolate the issue. You can back up your TS3 folder if you want before you start experimenting. |
Thanks, guys, I've solved most of the conflicts using S3Dashboard and the game loads again. It was going crazy since morning, I even thought that the game installation files got corrupt and was thinking of a full reinstall.
I can't really solve a few conflicts that still persist, but thankfully the game works! The last issue is that three files conflict with each other in DCCache, but DCCache can't be deleted (unless I want to lose all clothes). I can't really wrap my mind around it, why do clothes and random CC like patterns conflict, do creators often forget to set up unique IDs for them? *puzzled* Back in my TS2 times objects and clothes were safe downloads and never conflicted. Oh and wow, in Library over 100 packages were conflicting with random stuff! Again, I don't understand how that's even possible... Since those were households, they were conflicting with random CC clothes, etc. It's good that I didn't need anything in the Library and could just delete everything from the folder completely ![]() |
Quote: Originally posted by Babahara
Hi There Babahara Just a couple of things to consider using the Dashboard Running other folders, such as Library always shows tons of conflicts. The dashboard was not designed to read and identify in those folders. The Mods folder is what you want to use the Dashboard for. The link tangie provided above explains in detail what/how the Dashboard should be used and has illustrations. It's an awesome document. Often you will see conflicts but in most instances this is only because these objects are using the same resource and can be ignored. The DCCache files are a nightmare to clean out. Everyone has their own way of doing so. Some use S3PE and/or other tools. For items that can not be found or uninstalled via the Launcher you might want to try using Mels Method Further Down On This Page. I use it often. It's tedious but I have found it an effective way to clean things out. |
"Conflict" means they are using the same resources. This is not always a problem, as the article which tangie0906 linked you to mentions. If none of your conflicts are between scripts or tuning mods, they are probably nothing to worry about.
Oh, hi barbarat! |
Sorry everyone, I sounded so uninformed like I didn't even bother to read the link. But that's because I solved the crash-at-startup issue before tangie posted that helpful link. So there was no way for me to know back at the time that only Mods folder needed to be scanned. S3Dashboard started scanning the whole The Sims 3 directory automatically, and I assumed that it knew what it was doing
![]() Although in that case I have no idea how I fixed my game... After all, my Mods folder remained completely intact. So I guess whatever caused the issue was not among Mods and I happened to conveniently delete it along the way. The game even runs much faster in CAS now, it used to be a nightmare to wait till all clothes in a specific category show up. |
I had a sim go to the movies with a friend. Then they went to dinner. Suddenly he gave her flowers, and then they were on a date! Where did their nice platonic group go and how will this affect her relationship with her husband?
|
Quote: Originally posted by BlackjackGabbiani
Ha, I have experienced that scenario also. Not sure what will happen with the husband. I've had sims divorce on their own after one cheats. There is also a break up option you could use. I think it's in the Romance button. I fixed mine using Master Controller and the MC Cheats Module: From City Hall or a computer>NRaas< Master Controller> select: Sim>Intermediate > Long Term Relationship by Category. Then just Select Criteria for Sim A and click select to bring up the Select Criteria for Sim B, then Select desired Status. I also use options available in Story Progression to keep situations like this at bay. And sometimes I just let them run "wild" to see what trouble they get into while I am rotating to other households. |
A nice, platonic group instantly becomes a date if either party has even one of the more innocent romantic interactions with the other and there are only two people in the group. If you want it to remain platonic, keep a chaperone in the party.
|
@BlackjackGabbiani, as far as I know, no change will happen in her relationship with her husband. Just like in real life, a sim has to know that his partner is cheating to become angry. Your sim's reputation will change to Naughty, though, and it will be somewhat harder for your sim to romance other sims, as others won't trust her anymore.
|
That's weird though since it was entirely random on HIS actions rather than hers. I didn't approve it!
|
^ "That's weird though..." I think you just nicely summed up EA and (it's developers ?) in a nutshell. " No, I didn't ask them, but I sure considered it a date". "We had lunch once twelve years ago, therefore you are mine and I will stalk you forever" ( That's basically hardwired into Sims 2) "I'm at a party/club, what a great time to do my homework !" I'd guess the developers of 3 were also very enamored with The Wizard Of Oz , because every non-active sim seems to have one primary goal, one raison d'etre ... go home.
|
That's why I prefer to invite sims to my sims' home or meet with them elsewhere without creating a group; even when neither of the sims has the typical romance traits, one of them will inevitably roll a romantic interaction and make everything awkward. Now everyone my sim or their spouse knows, who is on the lot, gets the "Saw Betrayal" moodlet and a relationship hit with the "cheating" sim
![]() And I've been dying to know this: is there any way the Rebound Kiss can turn out well? Because it always seems to drag the relationship down even further. |
I think the relationship hit does happen anyway. Mortimer Goth was refusing advance after advance from another woman, and finally his wife came up and started a fistfight with HIM! Later I got a Story Progression notice that he had moved in with the sim who was the Town Bike. (Who was not the one hitting on him while I was watching.)

Unfortunate suitors sigh so sadly when they get rejected again and again. Random story: In my Harry Potter world, one of my non-rom sims in a cafe got hit on first by Vernon Dursley and then by Petunia Dursley. In the same room. I have one of the store Rocking Chairs installed and while autonomous Sims do use it on their own, they don't get wishes of 'Sit/Nap in Rocking Chair'. If I were to get a washing machine/dryer from the store, they could do laundry, but not obtain wishes of doing it, right? |
CtMuto, once there's laundry equipment anywhere in town, the sims all seem to be obsessed with owning it. Once there's laundry equipment on the lot, piles of dirty laundry also appear, and once that happens, the sims get moodlets and wishes related to it. It's not, in my mind, an enhancement to your gameplay or the sims' lives.

I can't place lots in my neighborhood anymore. Well, mostly- the only options I have when I select the lot from the bin are the ones with an icon that's just a square, and I don't know how to make those lots. I want to place this residential lot, and normally I would have two options of where to put it (it's a 60x60 lot and I have two residential 64x64 spaces), but I can't! I know; it's one of the minor reasons I decided to not reinstall Ambitions (the other being that it liked to negate my changed Sim attire to default); they get obsessed with clean clothes. Which makes no sense. I mean, the fresh sheets moodlet and clean clothes moodlet both are PRETTY longlasting for something simple. But they'd keep stacking it. I was just wondering if the wishes would appear, cause it doesn't with a store rocking chair. (I think those appeared with Supernatural first) As for the dryer, I think that the more expensive one takes less time, so it saves water or so? I know the washing machine has a slower setting that does give the Saving Water moodlet. I just read that there is a glitch with Gyms: they actually gain Athletic SLOWER than in non-Gym locations cause the moodlet is glitched? If so, would it be even worthwhile to build a Gym in a town? If they have enough other community lots to head to, like the pool; library and such. |
There is a mod somewhere that fixes the gym glitch, but I don't remember where I saw it. Retuner might help.
I bulldoze the laundromat and refuse to buy them washing machines, hampers, dryers, or clotheslines. (I'm also jealous that they drop an entire load of laundry into the machine, scoop out one bag and drop it into the dryer, and then pull a stack of folded clothes out of the dryer which immediately puts itself away by magic. I'll bet all the socks are matched up, too.) |
Here's the gym mod: http://modthesims.info/d/475596
Comparing it with the original XML (which has not been updated since, so the mod is OK for patch 1.63 and up), the original gain rates for fitness and athletic skill gain are 0.5x, and the mod ups them to 2x ![]() |
Is there a way to disable random townies from asking my sims on dates once they're married? My sims are married with three kids and yet they both seem to get nonstop phone calls from people not even on their 'known sims list' asking them on dates. Neither of my sims are irresistible either! Is there a mod or something to fix this or perhaps an obvious way that I don't know about?
|
@Alliehalliexo
There are different ways you can go about doing that. With Nraas Retuner, you could tweak every value yourself. On this page, you'll find more explanations and the path to follow with Retuner (in Table of content on the right, click on "How do I stop those annoying date calls?"). There is also a mod by Shimrod at SimAsylum, wich disable the gifts you received by mail and reduce or disables phone calls (need to be registered to see). And there is also this mod by mikey with different flavors depending on what you want (disabling or reducing the chance of calls or gifts). |
I have a question about male pregnancy. Do I need custom meshed clothes for men that are pregnant in sims 3? I believe you didn't have to have cc clothes for male maternity in sims 2, but as I have always let my men adopt instead of getting pregnant I don't know what I need in sims 3?
|
Quote: Originally posted by chokolady

In the case of alien pregnancies, male sims will simply get fatter, so any clothes they're wearing will simply use the fat meshes (if available); this isn't pregnancy per se, so it doesn't require the "special" mesh group that female maternity clothes have. If, however, you get males pregnant via normal woohoo, then yes, you would need custom clothes to avoid the floating head issue. Here are some male clothes that are also enabled for pregnancy: http://spladoum.tumblr.com/post/136051577403 http://spladoum.tumblr.com/post/124457342738 http://kentconverts.tumblr.com/post/128014389694 (the 'Romantic Robe', for teen males) http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...ic,16774.0.html (for teen and adult males) |

I never said I wasn't interested. It just seems confusing and I want someone to help walk me through it. That's a big difference and not for this thread anyway.
|
Yes, MC is a big, confusing mod. But the default settings are mostly such that you can drop the mod into your game, play a while, and have things working more closely to what you might be looking for. Then something will happen, you say to yourself "I wonder if Master Controller has a setting for this?" and poke around for a bit. Usually there is, indeed, a setting for this, along with several other interesting discoveries to forget about or to experiment with, depending on your desire and how recently you have saved. (It's reasonably safe when used properly, but when you discover something like "Add Sim to Household" when clicking on the Grim Reaper, or Pollen Punch when you are giving your sim some alchemy recipes, it's a good idea to have saved recently before trying it. )
Edit: Please don't tell Chain Reaction about the alchemy recipes. He said it doesn't do that and I don't want him to decide to fix it! |
The thing about mods like MasterController and DebugEnabler, unlike some of the others, is that just by being present they don't change a thing about gameplay. No matter how complex they look, all they do is load their menus of user-selectable commands onto lots, objects, sims, and City Hall and then sit back and wait for the player to some day choose one to run. It's not necessary to understand all of the commands right away but the Interactions pages are available at NRaas for reference when needed.
Unless one is having performance or other specific issues at the time for which mods like Overwatch, ErrorTrap, Register, Traffic, or Traveler are needed, which do run in the background "doing stuff," these are fine choices to start out with even though we always recommend the performance fixing ones for routine play. They are all totally removable if the player doesn't like them. And I apologize if my previous comment came across as a bit harsh, but assistance is always available at NRaas for players who need it. |
Hello, I want to have Monte Vista as vacation destination (using Traveler), but how do I place a base camp to arrive to if the game will use not my saved Monte Vista, but a brand new Monte Vista? I also want to add some custom sims to Monte Vista as vacation destination, is that possible?

In S3OC there is a painting called paintingPlumbob, Evolution of the Plumbob in game. It says it came with EP10, Island Paradise, but I can't find it in game. Not even under BuyDebug Menu. The price is listed as 12121. Anyone know where it is in the buy menu?
|
This painting doesn't show in the catalog, because as I see, the flags are set to Debug and Unused44. But it can be acquired on one of the Islands in Isla Paradiso. It's inside a treasure chest.
So technically, you can get it in game, if you take a treasure chest from the Debug menu and assign the treasure to the one that gets you the painting in the list of available treasures. But you can unlock it by unticking the Unused44 flag and choosing anything else, depending on where you want the painting to show up (DebugMisc, Decor > DecorWallArt). |
Ahh, I see. I only noticed because I tried to clone it and make a new painting, but still couldn't find in the catalog. I will figure this all out eventually. Thanks.

How likely are Hangouts to be populated? I think I recall someone mentioning that, in terms of 'priority' on where Sims go, the Hangout is pretty low on the list because they don't really 'pull' any sims with specific traits. If I were to make one, but also have a pool, library, park and maybe a gym available, how often could Sims go there?

1) Why is Accuse Of Being A Vampire a family oriented action? And why isn't it under Mean? It's just under the regular menu.
2) Quads! Argh, I got quads! Getting quadruplets is actually a glitch, I think? (Too much use of "increase chance of multiples" actions done, I guess. And all four of them are Fairies like dad... well, 50/50 chance. Four times. 100.) The mother didn't even get the Multiple Birth moodlet after... should I be concerned about that? |
Accuse of being a vampire is also under the Special: Genius conversation menu. Although while we're wondering about that, why is there still a negative response when a vampire accuses someone of being a vampire when the first vampire was the one who turned the second one?
"You are a vampire!" "Yeah, and whose fault is that?" |

What's "pudding"? People talk about it in regards to sim skin and I don't get it. And yes I know what pudding skin is, just not in this context.

My impression is that it is referring to the general shape of the facial structure of the default templates. It's not the sim skin as much as it is the general appearance.

I have two sims with missions to get something from the Landgraab Chateau library. One of them was able to do so, but sending the other one there yielded an empty chest. I'm in France for 9 days and the chest hasn't refilled. Any ideas what to do?
|
Nothing. You can't have two Sims working on the same quest. I don't even know how you managed to assign the same quest to two Sims. It should have been removed from the list of available quests once the first Sim got it.
And chests will only refill after you travel to a destination for a second time. But the quest items won't be re-added nevertheless. |

There is only one quest that takes you to the library. The other three (?) have their quest chests in other parts of the tomb. You are talking about two Sims in the same household, right? Because if one household member gets the quest to explore the library the quest should be blocked for all current and future members of the same household. |
Yeah in the same household. They were both to retrieve papers from the library but I think they were given by different people.

My stupid question concerns the store canning station. What ingredients do I need to make rations? I can make jam with fruit and candles with bees wax but no idea about rations!
|
Hi Annette19
I am assuming you are talking about Butterbot's canning station mod, since you mention candles and rations. To make rations you need to put three already prepared meals, either single serving or group serving, into the canning station, the same way you would use three fruit or three beeswax. I found "Autonomous Fun In The Sun" mod by icarus_allsorts. This allows sims to use a boat that is on a community lot but not owned by your sim. Is there any other way to use a community lot boat, besides having this mod installed? |

|
tizerist, I think pirate_wolf's question is not about finding different standalone plants but something different. Several of the trees and plants have different size states that pop out randomly when you place them. I believe they are asking if there's a way to force the plant to plop in the size you want without placing them repeatedly till you get the one you want. I've been waiting for the answer myself. But I don't think there is. It's not that much hassle except when you're landscaping a small space, at which point it becomes really annoying to repeatedly plop and delete.
|
Ah yes, perhaps thats what she meant. Didn't know plants also did that.
|
@pirate_wolf_12
@lucy kemnitzer For plants/shrubs, you don't necessarily have to really place them to get a different size. It's still a few clicks, but you can select your plant/shrub and without clicking/placing it see if it's the size you want by just moving it somewhere on your lot. If it's not, just click once more on your selected plant/shrub in the catalog and you'll see it should have changed size when you move it again. Repeat that until you find the right size. |
I'm looking at lot assignment information and learning some things. To make a library lot to actually 'count' as a library to the game, it requires at least 12 bookshelves... does that mean that, since my previously created library only had about 4 bookshelves, THAT is the reason it was rarely visited by a lot of sims? That you do need this 'minimum requirement' to get more than the one or two odd Sim to appear, despite having the appropriate, encouraged traits (like bookworm)? Cause if so, that certainly explains things to me...

So if uh, buttefly spawners spawn lizards and birds, how do I spawn butterflies?

Oh. I thought I had figured out a way to entice more Sims to head to community lots. |
Natrocity, butterfly spawners spawn butterflies. Look at the names of the spawners in the buydebug menu--they will give you an idea of what's in them. Somewhere there's a detailed list of what exactly is in each spawner, but the buydebug menu is accurate as far as it goes. The true part of that is that the other small animal spawners are in the same submenu as butterflies.

That is a science of it's own. When I made my world I made the Library and art gallery with that information. That was after all the Exp was released. I had to struggle with the art galleri because it was so small. |

As already noted by lucy kemnitzer some spawners are included with other spawner types and can be identified with buydebug on. Scroll down to Spawners On This Page for more detail on what each Spawner spawns. |
This is Mike Florez, regular non-occult, NPC sim.
Yes, that's right. He's swooshing around in the air up and down and around outside the diner like he is riding something, but all I see is boots. (not the hungry guy on the ground, btw) In years of playing, I've never seen this before. Got SN, Seasons, Ambitions, ITF, showtime and a few other EPs going. No Island Paradise, so he's not surfing on land by a glitch. Any idea on what he's doing and how I can get the same for my sim? |
