Or, could be a glitch

Oh thanks! Guess she can't be a gold digger than
He's a music executive, I think.

If he's in the music career he's not an NPC and should live in a house somewhere in the town.

If you want her to get the gold digger LTW you could invite him over, cheat and add him to your family (or make friendly until you can ask him to move in), move him out, make him rich, marry him, LTW achieved!

He's probably homeless, then, which means you can only encounter him in town or invite him over, you can't visit him.

heartbreak 6th Mar 2010 2:49 AM

She invited him over a few times but he's only actually shown up once, despite him saying that he'll show up later on.

Oh well, she's now moved on to Stiles LOL. He's rich enough for her - and has the same job. At least I know where he lives haha

Pamelaniel 6th Mar 2010 11:58 PM

This may not be a stupid question, but I'm stupid since I just can't understand the search feature on this site...

I have an adventurer sim, and she's got her inventory full of gems and relics. I'd made a nice museum in her basement, and when it was time to move, I put all the collectibles in the family inventory. Now on the new lot, there's some issue with placing objects. The personal inventory is completely screwed up, and I can't get anything out from it or from the family inventory.

I have no idea what went wrong and what I have to do to fix it, and I don't want to muck up anything else by touching things I should stay away from... Anyone else had this problem and know what to do?

This could be your problem. Are you able to open a chest and transfer items from her inventory into the chest? If so remove most of the stuff from her inventory that way and it might fix the problem. This has always worked for me, but since your family inventory is also screwed up you may have a more major problem.

Anyway...my sim decided to get the tombstones and bring them home...now two of his children (a baby and toddler) won't go back in their graves...the crying is annoying...somebody help please!!!

I found the answer...I typed in the testingcheats cheat and the option came up to delete the ghost...once I did that...the tombstones worked as normal...YaY!

donnellhouse 7th Mar 2010 3:41 AM

Pamelaniel
- I just had the same problem in a move, also with an adventurer with a LOT of stuff. I was in the redecorating process in the new home and the regular (not family/buy area) inventory was telling me I needed to "sell" an item but nothing was selected and it got caught in a loop or some-such.

I finally closed out the current game (I had saved right after the move), then restarted and opened up both my regular and my family inventory and either placed or eliminated stuff until it stopped being stupid. I think it might have been the fridge in the new house that was causing the problem. Once I deleted it, everything was fine.

I did find that it is impossible to move with a large inventory. I had all the tomb "sigils/symbols" and a lot of jewels and relics, a dive pool & pushable statue, several sarcophagi (??), a bike, a scooter, plus a huge amount of "nectar" & fresh/dried food -- almost all of that stuff had to go before I could even get the move accomplished, which was kind of a bummer.

Pamelaniel 7th Mar 2010 11:56 AM

Hmm, I see... I'll try getting rid of some stuff then, but I have a feeling this isn't the problem... When i hoover over the inventory, the mouse turns into a fist with a red ring with a line through it, you know, the universal ''aint gonna happen'' sign. It disappears again if i right click somewhere.

But I'll try selling off stuff (if it's even possible), and let you know if it fixes the problem!

thehoff2 7th Mar 2010 12:04 PM

I have two questions...one stupid, one not-so-stupid (maybe).

First off...Why does my game keep randomly shutting down?
It's happened a few times, during different activities...CAS, Town View, and regular gameplay. The game just closes. UNSAVED. Has this happened to anyone else?

And then there's the dumb question...how do I install Riverview? I went to the TS3 site, clicked 'dowload to game', and the launcher opened up, and said that the dowload was being initiated...and then it stopped. This has happened with other CC that needs to be installed via launcher, although any .package CC works fine.
Does anyone know what's wrong?

Thank you!

(NOTE: I have TS3 base game only, unpatched, with no mods, unless you count the CAS sliders for chest, head, neck, butt, etc.)

The reason this happens is because you haven't saved. The game is set to randomly crash if it detects you have not saved recently. Haven't you noticed how this never happens when you've saved, unless it is doing so sadistically WHILE you save, just to mock you?

Pamelaniel 7th Mar 2010 12:34 PM

thehoff2: Is it possible that your computer just isn't strong enough? I had that problem with my old computer, and it was simply because the processor got overheated. It wasn't up for the job, plus it was full of chihuahua hair...

If your computer is more than sufficient to run the sims, it's what Pescado says...

J. M. Pescado 7th Mar 2010 12:41 PM

Overheat failures tend to take out the entire computer with them, the entire computer will wig out and crash completely if you're getting a hardware-based overheat. This is sadism.

Pamelaniel 7th Mar 2010 2:40 PM

Of course, I thought the Hoff meant the whole computer shut down. My old computer (it had a lot of issues) would sometimes just go black... it was still on, but the screen was dead. So I had to restart the computer, but Behold! The Sims was still running, and nothing was lost <3

Well that is evil.
But I DO save. I got into the habit of randomly saving the game when I first started playing TS2, on my family's old dinosaur. THAT computer was fond of turning off for absolutley no reason if it felt that the game was tiring it.

And that shouldn't even be a worry on the computer I'm using now. It's less than a year old...and while I think my system isn't quite up to the standards that the game needs, it's not a noticeable difference. It just makes things run the slightest bit slow.

I think the game's just doing it to mock me. I've always had the feeling that electronics like to mock my pain.

When moving a family to a new home, is there a way to see inside the house before purchasing, like when you initially buy a house via Edit Town.

Ok, when i played now, everything was fine and dandy. I could click the gems and relics in the inventory, and move around stuff without the annoying fist showing up. BUT when I opened the family inventory, it started screwing up again. So there's something wrong there... Anyone have any idea how I can fix it? I can't get rid of the stuff in there, it's just stuck.

ani_ 15th Mar 2010 7:44 AM

Pamelaniel: Have you tried deleting the sim, that will reset him when you save and exit, maybe it will help with the inventory problem, at least the personal. What comes to the family inventory, isn't there a sell all interaction? maybe you could use that to get rid of everything.

I have a question. Is it possible to get rich writing? I have one guy who's written a dozen of scifi (I know these are the least profitable), one none fiction and one fantasy (how can LOTR flop, I don't know), and is now writing another fantasy book. His writing skill is high but not maxed if I'm not mistaken, but still he gets pennies for his effort. I have the x10 bills mod, so it's a sturggle but still, the royalties he's gotten/book has never been bigger than 150.

Also, do none active households also get their royalties on Sunday, or is it only the active households who get them.

I actually miss TS2's royaltie system, where you would get payed immediately after the book was done, and not in bits.

as Ani said, sell all fish and produce. You could also try sending all your gems to get cut and metals to get smelted. I managed to donate a few insects to science and then I was able to transfer the rest of my inventory items into a chest.

In Edit Town mode, you can open the lot by clicking it and selecting the Build/Buy mode button on the lot's info screen, or alternatively by clicking the build/buy button in the Edit Town interface and then selecting the lot.

There are mods, including Twallan's supercomputer, that will let you "open" any lot to look inside it while in-game.

I don't know of any way to look into a lot from the in-game moving interface, though. You probably want to pick the house you want to move into first using one of those other methods, before initiating the move.

Pamelaniel 16th Mar 2010 11:27 PM

Well, I'm more or less certain that the family inventory is the problem. I played the household, and everything was fine until I opened the family inventory. If that's broken for good, how do I get out the martial arts stuff?

Also, I played another household, and after entering the family inventory there, nothing bad happened. So it's just the adventurer household. I've gotten rid of a bunch of stuff, but it's still mucking up.

But that's not the main issue now. After I installed HELS the game is so effing laggy, I'm going insane. I have a feeling it's because of all the store stuff that's been converted into package-files. Computer doesn't like that.

Wondering the spawn locations of the rare type beetles and the plutonium.

suzetter 20th Mar 2010 5:56 AM

In China, red assassin beetles spawn near the abandoned farm/barn place, near the shore line upriver from base camp (moving away from the Emporer's Plaza), and in the far north east of the river bank (past the fork in the river). I know I've picked up plutonium while looking for other metals/gems for a quest in China but I don't recall where.

Two questions:
- How to give your toddlers a happy childhood? Al my toddlers if well taken care of learn to potty, and walk (becuase it's so adorable<3), one even got mechanical and logic, but still according to the game he had a tough toddlerhood. Do I also need to teach them to talk, or is it because he didn't have any extra happy moodlets? his mood was on the happy side anyway.

- Taking pics of sunflowers, no matter how I used the camera to point to the sunflowers, I never got the text that I'm pointing to a sunflower. The pic is needed becuase I want my photographer to get all the plants in the plant category.

Petra Grai 25th Mar 2010 1:28 PM

Your toddlers need to learn to Potty, Walk and Talk to fulfill the happy childhood requirement. The mechanical and logic stuff, like the xylophone, is optional, but very handy.

What cheat do I need to use to be able to rotate objects through a full 360 degrees? I know the , and . keys rotate them in 90 degree increments but I swear there is a cheat, or key combination that allows any angle. Am I right thinking this?

EDIT: Nevermind. I found it was the ALT key I was after.

Ghost sdoj 25th Mar 2010 10:30 PM

I don't know about Sunset Valley, but in Riverview I got sunflowers by going to the community garden and photographing the ones by the fence. I got right up next to them. There is another kind of sunflower that didn't seem to count as sunflowers.

I don't think it's possible. But you could wait for fruit/vegetables to grow on the plant, harvest them and grow those when you get to your new house.

Menaceman44 28th Mar 2010 10:34 PM

Are teddy bears supposed to give babies a positive moodlet? The Valentine bear from the store doesn't seem to. I put it in the babies inventory but it doesn't seem to be having any effect. I've not had any toddlers to try it with yet.

Nevermind! It showed up when he fell asleep.

Pamelaniel 28th Mar 2010 10:40 PM

I'm not completely sure, but if you put teddy bears in adults' inventory, they need the childish-trait to get a moodlet.

Base game overalls? Can't remove em without a mod. Or instead of removing, you could do a default replacement. Try the CAS Parts forum under Create to find out how to do that.

Money trees do produce seeds. If there's free space around it, a seed will spawn/drop sooner or later.

I got it while fishing. It's really rare, so the chances for you to get it is very small

Is it random or is there a certain time when it will do so?

Ghost sdoj 30th Mar 2010 5:13 PM

If you keep tending it until it gets to Perfect, the next time it is harvestable it drops a seed. I got a seed as a reward from the Bag of Produce opportunity, and some of the unknown special seeds are money trees.

Of course you can also just keep harvesting your old lot from your new house and not have to worry about things like weeds and watering.

a few questions for serious simmers.

When you go to the shop and you make your sim buy the Bubble bath stuff, can the use it or is it just for display?
and...
With the WA expansion pack in france do you have to unlock something to see the effiel tower? is it possible to see/go up it?

HystericalParoxysm 31st Mar 2010 5:13 PM

If you put the bubble bath on the corner of the bathtub (there's a slot there for it) then you can take a bubble bath. Same with the rubber duckie - both give you an additional tiny moodlet boost.

ksstrek 31st Mar 2010 5:13 PM

place the bubble bath on the edge of the tub and your sim will have the option to take a bubble bath. Likewise, place the rubber duck on the edge of the tub and your sim will play with the duck. they get positive moodlets from both the bubble bath and the duck.

gobot101 31st Mar 2010 5:25 PM

The Eiffel Tower is just decoration, there is no way to go to where it is. But, if you'd like your sims to visit it, you can edit one of the lots in France; the Eiffel Tower can be placed using the "buydebug" cheat.

If that specific Sim has certain traits certain filters can be applied to the paintings they create, and one of these can be quite dark (it happened to me once).

Has this happened more than one and with more than one Sim?

PuddleJumper 2nd Apr 2010 5:12 AM

Im pretty sure its happened with more than one sim. But I usually play with similar traits and sims, so that probably is it.

Is there a cheat or a place I can look in my files or something to find out how many sims I have in a neighborhood in TS3? I'm just kind of curious.

clearblueskies 7th Apr 2010 11:22 PM

What does the 'meditative trance sleep' lifetime reward do? I gave it to one of my sims and unless I'm missing something I can't tell that it does anything.

donnellhouse 8th Apr 2010 12:46 AM

If I turn aging & story progression "on" in one neighborhood, and then start a new game/neighborhood with those two options turned "off" ... what happens to the first game? Does it revert back to aging & progression "off" or keep running separately? I really want to let my original neighborhood "grow" on it's own for a bit, to see what happens, but I wanted to start a new challenge that needs aging off.

============

clearblueskies -- I think the trance sleep is more efficient ... they don't need to sleep as long to be fully rested. I noticed that the bar would fill up really fast at the end of the sleep cycle, not a big difference tho', maybe an extra hour or so?

AngelicScot 8th Apr 2010 1:33 AM

Turning "Aging off/on and Story Progression off/on" is global. In other words, if you have it off, it's off for all games. Conversely, if you have it on, it's on for all games. You cannot have it on for one and off for another.

It's supposed to make your sim require less sleep. I don't know how well it works, though. I've seen complaints.

Nothing happens in the first game while you're playing the second game It won't grow on its own unless it's loaded.

Aging and story progression settings affect the play session, not the game save. So you just have to change the settings when you change between the two games. (Though you can associate settings with games and even households by using certain mods.)

Fitness works differently in Sims 3. Each sim has a default, genetic body type, composed of weight and muscularity. You can set those two sliders in CAS, and they can alter that by their behavior -- using the weight machine makes you more muscular, jogging or using the treadmill makes you thinner. But when they're not excercising, they will gradually revert to their default weight and fitness.

Okay, I'm not sure this is the best place for this, but I'm lazy and didn't want to search the discussion area and didn't think it warranted a new thread. It seems like a stupid question to me.

So how to put this... I have a family of 3, a married couple and their toddler. The wife has 5 points in her writing skill. The husband doesn't write at all. And obviously the toddler has no skills yet. But the thing is, every couple Sim hours, I get a box to "Name Your Book" and no one is writing. The last time it happened, she was in the shower and he was making waffles. So props to anyone who can answer any of the following:

1. WHY is this happening? I really doubt Sims come up with ideas for books in their heads. I do have custom content in my game but I can't think of anything that would cause a random "Name Your Book" window, except maybe the Book of Talent. It just pops up at random intervals, different times of day. I got this message once in the middle of the night while all 3 of them were asleep.

2. WHO the hell is writing these books all the damn time? When she goes on the computer, these book titles are not there. I just cancel them now, but I accepted a few before I realized no one was at the computer, the last one just to see if the "Continue Writing..." would come up for either of the adults, and they don't. The husband has no writing skills, but they didn't appear when I had him use the computer. Unless when the toddler grows up there's going to be a group of books to her name, I'm clueless. I do have another household across the street with a writer, but that's not my active household at the moment and if these are his books, that raises its own issues.

This has nothing to do with the above writing thing, but I did get a Wish that I couldn't figure out how to resolve. It was "Point Out [Husband's] Flaws" but no amount of "Complain About..." or "Insult" or "Fight" would reward the "Point Out Flaws" so eventually I just canceled the Wish. Just seemed weird...

Srikandi 10th Apr 2010 12:02 AM

Wow, no clue on the writing thing. Sounds like a bug, all right :O

AngelicScot 10th Apr 2010 1:36 AM

Your game has writers envy? I'm sorry to say I can't give you an explaination nor a remedy. I hope that someone who has had some experience similar to yours will help you out.

I can't figure out how to grow vegetables in my garden. Where do I get seeds and such?

You can buy the fruits/veggies at the grocery store and plant them, or you can go around town and find "Unknown..." seeds. Can't plant those without a high skill (I think 7?) though.

shogun37 10th Apr 2010 4:54 AM

Is there a limit on career promotions? One of my sims finished his lifetime want, level 9 on the science chart, and I wanted to max it out before switching him. Thanks! That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure. Thanks again!

2rki3i 10th Apr 2010 5:04 AM

^^^^
There is only 10 levels for every career, save part time careers. The last one for science is "Mad Scientist". You can usually tell you've maxed out a career when you get a 'perk' of some sort. For science it's the ability to "Perform Experiment" on furniture in your house.

el_flel 10th Apr 2010 11:34 AM

DevonNoel1 -In addition to the advice Sims2Storywriter gave, once your sim has learnt 1 gardening skill point they get some seeds in their inventory. You click on the seed and choose 'plant' and then click outside where you want it to be planted.

Also the Collection Helper LT reward will show the location of all collectibles, including seeds, which is really helpful in obtaining special seeds like the money tree and flame fruit.

Artisan219 - the writing thing is definitely weird. I would test the game without cc as hacks/mods can affect things you wouldn't think they would affect.

As for 'point out flaws' I am pretty sure that's specific to the 'perfectionist' trait. If so it should show up under 'special' interactions.

Shimrod101 10th Apr 2010 1:03 PM

[QUOTE=Artisan219]But the thing is, every couple Sim hours, I get a box to "Name Your Book" and no one is writing.[QUOTE]

There is a writing mod somewhere that enables autonomous writing, which includes townie sims writing books. If you use this mod, every time a townie completes a book you get the popup to name their book. If you are using this mod, this is why it's happening.

Point Out Flaws is one of the chat options you get on the pie menu. I think only Snob sims get this chat option, or maybe it's one of the other traits or two. So your sim wants to Chat with hubbie, maybe Talk About Art a bit, and then Point Out Flaws. If your sim doesn't have the trait to be able to do this, then it seems weird that the wish pops up.

Ghost sdoj 10th Apr 2010 5:48 PM

My sim who has it seems to need to sleep less often than his wife who doesn't have it. He sleeps just as long, though. And the game tries to put him to bed just as often, so I have to cancel it out when he isn't tired enough to need to go to sleep.

Unknown seeds can be planted at the same level that you can plant the same category of known plants. But you aren't going to find an unknown common seed, so they will always need a higher level of skill.

And if you change the aging and story progression settings, they stay changed until you change them again, so you will need to change them back if you want them different for another saved game you are playing.

donnellhouse 10th Apr 2010 7:34 PM

Perfectionists can definitely "point out flaws" too -- my newest Sim has that trait, but is not a snob, and he gets the option.

-----

Thanks for the answers on aging/story progression. For some reason I thought old existing games would continue, even if they weren't being actively played (like Virtual Villagers does) -- I guess I got confused because I kept reading about Sims getting married/pregnant/cheating etc. without the knowledge of the player and I couldn't figure out how you could miss something like that when the Sim is right there on your screen ... I now realize that's just how story progression works with non-active households in the currently active game. (this is why I keep stuff like that turned off)

lazzybum 10th Apr 2010 8:05 PM

I've been away from the sims community for a few months and now that I am getting a new computer, i would want to play sims 3. I remember when it first came out, people had problems with slow time & story progression. For example, the 3rd or 4th Speed for time was the same speed as the 1st speed, and for story progressions, male households would have a babies appear in their backyard. Has this been fixed yet with the patch and/or mods?

Yes and yes. Both work as promised now. But other patches have borked other things. I think my game is two or three patches behind. I by-pass the Launcher to play the game via a shortcut to the Executable. Just how I do it, there may be other ways that other players use. Also, I don't use mods. Just my thing, I don't have anything against those who play with mods added.

dizzysommer 11th Apr 2010 5:31 AM

So I guess this would be a stupid question, but even if it isn't, I don't see a place where I can ask it other than here, so:

I got this CC- http://forums.modthesims.info/download.php?t=391737 for rabbithole recolors and I want to base the rest of my rabbitholes off those for an era-specific town I'm working on.
How on earth do I do that? I've looked everywhere I can think for some type of tutorial to tell me but I haven't found a thing. Can someone help me, please?

ani_ 11th Apr 2010 3:37 PM

I finally have a sim who's a rock star in my game, and I thought they will then be able to sign autographcs for fans, but no interaction of this sort seems to be available.

Menaceman44 11th Apr 2010 6:34 PM

Does holding an autograph session show up under work options? I've not had a rockstar before.

kellyann.x.X 11th Apr 2010 6:35 PM

The other day I discovered that I had an 'enroll in school' option on the computer for Children/Teens that I assumed came with a Part Time Careers mod that I got from this site.
Then I managed to screw up my game and I had to re-install HELS to get it to work.
So, it all gets working again, but none of my part time jobs are there, and neither is the 'enroll in school' option.
I also can't find the mod again on this website, and even though all of my other mods work, this one doesn't.
I was just wondering if anyone else had the Part Time careers mod, and if they had it working? Because, I can't seem to find it anywhere :/

You should have the option at the community theatre once you are level 10 in the rock star branch.
I think it's only there once a week or something though, as in, you can't do it a lot, the option only shows up a certain amount of time after it's been previously clicked.

ani_ 11th Apr 2010 6:48 PM

kellyann.x.X: Maybe you should update your mods, if it's the same part time job I have, it's Twallan's mod. And thanks for the info about the rockstar

When placing a pre-made home (EA created) on an empty lot, and it doesn't meet right at the sidewalk, does that mean it doesn't fit/ won't work?

Nope. It will work fine. If the new lot is larger than the old lot, the game centers the old lot on the new lot. Unfortunately, there's no way to change that (for instance, slide it to the edge). You'll just have to extend your front path to the street

You mean you want to make your own, additional rabbit hole recolors? Rabbit holes are large objects, and can be recolored the same way (AFAIK). You'll find recolor tuts in the tutorials section under Create, and you can get more help in the modding forum there. ("Creating for | Sims 3 | Tutorials" and "Creating for | Sims 3 | Modding Discussion")

Really? Omg thank you I was getting soooo frustrated. lol

Edit: I looked and apparently I need programs I can't even get access to. =[ And I'm not even sure which programs I actually even need.
Sad day.

Is there anyone that might be willing to do recolors similar to the ones in the link? http://forums.modthesims.info/download.php?t=391737 I desperately want them...

Awe boo. Thanks.

That greatly annoys me. Hopefully they fix that (although I'm sure they would have by now if they had that intention) because what a pain in the rear!
Bums me out. lol

Useless feature IMO

mangaroo 15th Apr 2010 8:38 AM

dizzy, MTS doesn't have a forum for requests. We do, however, have a thread in WCIF where creators who are willing to consider requests post: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=392614

If anyone in that thread indicates that they are willing to do object recolors, you should pm your request.

Actually they MIGHT fix it with Ambitions. They're adding the ability to place new lots, and "modify" them. Rodiek said "One of the features we're most proud of is adding the ability for players to add, remove, and modify lots in edit town." Dunno what's included in "modify", but that might be it

And even if you don't get ambitions, chances are these changes will be in the patch that comes at the same time, like they did with basements in WA.

AngelicScot 15th Apr 2010 3:25 PM

In my most humble of opinions, they were stupid to do away with 'ploppable' lots in the first place. I hope that it returns (at least in some part) with Ambitions.

TheTasteOfInk 16th Apr 2010 12:05 AM

This, is the king of stupid questions

I went into Game the other day, because even though I cant afford TS3 yet -after a year D: But I need a new pc so that comes first- anyway I saw this http://www.game.co.uk/Games/PC-Game...a-Sim/~r346860/ and I wondered if anyone had it and what it does?
I looked on The Sims website but they didnt say anything about it. Is it like Bodyshop was to TS2??

el_flel 16th Apr 2010 12:17 AM

It is to TS3 as the Creature Creator was to Spore: it is just the Create A Sim section - I guess you could say it is like Body Shop. So you can create a sim and design it and style it, but I'm pretty sure you can't do anything else with it.

TheTasteOfInk 16th Apr 2010 12:15 AM

Ahhhh that makes sence thanks
I feel like an idiot now, I sat there for ages on the floor going...eh?

etruxell 16th Apr 2010 12:32 AM

I thought the gym, pool, library, and parks you can go inside of them? I can go into the library and pool, but I am unable to go into the gym. Does anyone else have this problem?

el_flel 16th Apr 2010 12:53 AM

TheTasteOfInk - you aren't the only person confused by it. When it was announced there was a thread here and most of the people who commented were confused until we realised what it was.

etruxell - what neighbourhood are you in? Is it the default gym?

etruxell 16th Apr 2010 1:15 AM

Im in the default neighborhood, sunset valley or whatever. and yeah its the default gym. Can you go inside it and interact?

You can go inside but you can't see your sim when they go in and they can't interact unless they are at work.

etruxell 16th Apr 2010 1:50 AM

seriously? I thought you were able to see the work equipment and other sims

etruxell 16th Apr 2010 1:51 AM

shouldnt I be able to see that? (I got that off of google images)
