There is no interaction called "error!" in the game, as far as I know. So I'd rather think that this is a bug in PortraitPanel, Maybe you should report that at NRaas.
Most nerd interactions, btw, are autonomous. |
A quick question - When two different rabbitholes are placed in a single lot, would both of them work as intended?

I have a household of a guy and his plumbot.
Do the usual stuff to get an alien abduction - get space rocks and use the telescope. Every single time the alien grabs the plumbot. But what we're doing here is trying for an alien baby. I tried sending the plumbot to the library during promising alien abduction hours... but then nothing. Is my human sim that ugly? How can I get the alien to grab my human male sim? |
Why not try splitting up the household before trying the abduction scenario? Since the aliens only try to abduct the actives and not the townie ones?
I actually have the opposite problem. The aliens always try to abduct my Sim, and what's funny is, they only try it when my poor Sim is making love with his wife. They only do it just for laughs. Is it the WooHooium metal that my poor Sim picked up the culprit in all those love-related abductions? |

I had NRAAS retuner set so that if the telescope was used it was a 100% sure that I'd get an abduction event. Send the plumbot to the library at Midnight to read for 3 hours. No aliens. Remove another mod and try again. Then it was just a matter of removing mods that might be messing it up. The mod causing the problem was a work in progress thing, just a matter of finding a prior version of it that still worked. |
Is there a mod, other than Awesomemod, that allows better genetic blending of two Sims' offspring? Because that's pretty much the only AM part I really use and if I can find a 'smaller' alternative, that'd be cool. (I don't want a town full of clones of either mom or dad...)

But I'm pretty sure you have expressed some level of aversion to using SP for progression in the past, and although not a Core Mod like AM it's not a standalone feature so not sure it would qualify as a "smaller" alternative. Just a different one. With or without Advanced Genetics though, I still get a fair amount of parental clones as kids in my worlds. Maybe around 10-20% of the time? Different players' experiences seem to vary. Using MC to re-roll the genetics (PlayWithGenetics) a few times on an existing offspring sim can help resolve that, but it does take some player intervention once the offspring is old enough for this effect to be noticed. |
My stupid question of the day is: Why are people hopping mad at EA for now? Something about Starwars Battlefront (ugh! Not my kind of game) being DLC greedy and some jurisdictions are saying it's gambling?
Sounds like EA is turning into a band of pirates. I want to see a decent Sims 5, but hope for that is dying... |

For me, in all it's un-optimized glory, Sims 3 is the last Sims game. Even though Sims 4's Build Mode (aside from the pool fiasco) is the best in the series, its gameplay is too bland and the Sims too lifeless for me to enjoy it.
Who knows? Maybe in Sims 5, the base game would only be composed of Create-a-Sim and Live Mode. Then the Buy Mode and the Build mode would be bought separately. |
Don't give them ideas!

I have some apartments I built myself, using shells from Late Night, but my Sims (both NPC's and ones I've made myself) seem to get stuck a lot inside the hidden rooms. There aren't any doors or anything to the hidden rooms, I don't quite know how they get there. Has anyone else experienced the same, or have an idea how to fix it?
|
Yes, sims are known to spawn in the hidden rooms. The easiest fix I've heard of is to go into Edit Town mode and add regular doors to the hidden rooms so that the sims can get out. Or you can remove the Hidden Room marker and just paint the floor and walls black. (This requires going into buydebug and looking for them.)
|
It's almost (maybe exclusively) always ground floor hidden rooms where this happens. Sims who are not part of the active household, whether they be true NPCs like Service/Role Sims or members of a different household, often go into a state of hibernation when they are at home. They instantiate (materialize) when the game calls upon them to do something, it's time to go to work/school, etc. When they do so in a locked out or hidden room with no doors, they unfortunately get stuck and need to be reset -- this is a frequent source of lag for many in worlds with LN style apartments as the game constantly keeps trying to re-route them.
I usually remove the private/hidden room markers, put a public room marker there instead, and (at least) give them a regular door so they can get out when I catch this happening otherwise it will continue to do so. Or maybe tear the walls down if the hidden space is very small to begin with. Others who do want a range of private/hidden rooms for NPCs to retreat into with proper NPC doors will choose to put them all on higher floors when they can. The ground floors of most of my apartment buildings have laundry and rec rooms in them now in place of the once darkened out traps waiting to mess things up. ![]() |
Ah I see, that makes sense, should be a fairly easy fix then, thank you both!

So if I download baby clothes CC can I just use MasterController to dress the baby or do I need any other mod to enable non-burrito baby clothing? I would try it out myself but my sim hasn't had her baby yet

Does the BFF Skill Award work.
Supposedly, if you match 30 sims on the Relationship Transmorgifier (that comes with the University Social Networking skill) with the Romantic Interest or Partner relationship you unlock the "Best Friends Forever" (BFF) function. Well, I matched 30 different sims with "romantic interest", and now the whole town is about to break out in civil war (opps... some of them had other Romatic interest or Partners... but I need the BFF, ya know? And I could fix the problems as I found them out.)
So I have the "Star" in the Skill Journal showing it's unlocked, but no BFF function. Anyone know how to work this? |

I am not sure MC alone can do that unless a default replacement skin is installed. There are links to mods to replace the default skin for babies that will let you see your babies arms and legs. See Babies and Toddlers Here Default Replacement Baby Skins. To change clothing you can do that using MC or Stylist. I am not in game right now so can't provide a path to the mod but have MC HotKey for"Outfit" which allows you to click on the Sim and then in the pie menu under NRaas Outfit. I believe the cheats module is needed. |

Nraas SP question... I want the basegame school to be the elementary school for kids; I went into Lot Options -> Cast: Disallow and locked Teenagers out. I went into Caste: Require, but I saw no 'Children' option, so I just clicked the basic ones (male/female/homeless/young adult), so as to not lock any adults out from an opportunity there or from not being allowed to take skill classes. (The other school I have in, the IP one, I put Teenagers into Caste: Require) I put a family into town with one child and used MC to Choose School. It lists 2 elementary schools... did I do something wrong? I don't have a teen in town right now because I'm still populating.
And the Showtime careers of Acrobat, Magician and Singer... do they have a 'schedule', too, like Ambition-profession NPC Sims? Will they have a schedule to follow or could they appear on any lot, any time of the day/night because of free time? |
OK, I'm not allowed to cancel a wish once it's promised. But I accidentally promised a wish to play the piano at a party. It looked easy enough: he was just invited to a party. Playing the piano at that party didn't fill the wish. Granted; the party started with him helping himself to a quick meal from her fridge and using her laptop while he waited for the hostess to actually arrive at the house, and when she got home she went straight to bed, so it wasn't really much of a party. (It might have been more of a party if he had joined her, but he didn't.)
Then he threw a party of his own. Playing the piano for his two guests didn't fill the wish, either. What do I need to do to fill that wish? |

There are also settings in StoryProgression to disallow some career types: From City Hall or a computer>NRaas>Story Progression>General Options>Town Options>Career: Disallow If you are using Castes you can disallow certain careers as well. In some games I also set the Career:AllowFind Job to False in Town Options as well as within their castes My experience has been the game will always generate some service sims in the service pool. That can be annoying but those sims do not use resources and hibernate if they are not needed. Role Sims will automatically generate sims to work the cash registers etc. I usually assign sims to those roles as needed. Disabling Immigration also cuts down on sims spawning. You might need to play for awhile or restart your game for the settings to work. Take a look at the Town Management FAQ for more tips manageing the town population. |
This is more of a curiosity, and I'm not going to be upset if it isn't possible, but is it possible to see which sims are wearing a certain CASpart? Sometimes I remove skins, hairstyles or clothes and find sims who were wearing them have turned black or reverted to the basegame hair that the CC hair was cloned from. I don't know what happens to clothes, but sims might turn invisible.

Why is it that, despite a romantic moment being consistently romantic, options in the romance tab come and go wildly? Like one second the "give great massage" option will be there, but if I don't use it, it vanishes. I've been trying to get my sims to propose for a while now and the option rarely shows up! That's the same for BOTH of them.
|
AFAIK they show up during irresistible, because just either flirty and amorous is not enough. sometimes on irresistible they stop talking a bit and if they interact again it'd change back to just flirty. otherwise, idk why that would be either.
|
You gotta keep doing romantic interactions (though not the same one over and over, unless the Sim doing them has Never Dull). It can take a while to go from Flirty to Amorous to Extremely Irresistible; depends on traits, too.

Is it normal that to put my toddler into a highchair I have to be holding them first? Why cant I just click on the highchair and choose to put one of my toddlers in?

It might be. Unflirty require some extra, extra, extra persuasion to go on.
|
I try to just do the stuff that doesn't have the Flirty icon next to it, and that limits his options even further.
|
I don't know if you can try this, but since you mentioned that it's with both sims you might be able to have the unflirty sim be the one to initiate all the romantic interactions, and queue them up so that there are always at least 2 of them in the queue. (You also need both sims to be best friends with each other if one is Unflirty, but I assume you've already managed that.) When they have completed one interaction and started the next one, queue up another one, and if the romance level has gotten to a point where a higher level set of interactions have appeared then you should go with those and not use the lower-ranked ones anymore. As soon as you see Propose, go for it!
This might not work either, but it should help reduce the problem of the unflirty sim getting uncomfortable and not wanting to continue. |
Would it be safe to use this on DCBackup folder? Or would it affect ccmerged.package? Just is a pain to clear out that folder every time.

What can cause the game to crash when switching Households? ErrorTrap is not popping up with anything. I haven't altered my mods. Only change was some hairstyles.
Or do merged packages just increase the chance of the game crashing? I need to alter my question: what can cause a SIM to be corrupted? Because I did a new file, and the game still crashed when I put that Sim into a house and switched to it. As said before, no altered mods between her creation and that of the previous household. I read that that one gets checked at 5 AM, though it might also have to do with a different mod you have. |
The NRaas mod that does the overnight sweep at 3am for regular worlds and 5am for urban worlds is Overwatch, not MasterController. MC doesn't actually do anything on it's own, it's essentially a player-controlled command center.
The issue could be related to that, yes. Indirectly anyway, the real issue if this is the case is why does the overnight run have so much to cleanup that it's apparently locking up the game. I would recommend NRaas Traffic with its option to disallow celeb performance limos in case that seems to be a contributor here, this is a feature that can get stuck after a game progresses long enough for there to be any sims ranked high enough to earn a limo and thousands of them end up getting spawned each day behind the scenes. Same with the snack and ice cream trucks, Traffic will limit those to more reasonable numbers to prevent the over-spawnage. Or it could be just about anything that is scheduled to "go off" at that hour of the morning. Overactive/too many spawners, for example, or an inactive sim somewhere in town having a baby and getting stuck in the infinite birthing loop that Woohooer fixes by its mere presence. Or indeed, some scheduled task arranged for by a different mod. |
My own stupid question about the Showtime professions. If I have NPC Sim households set to be Acrobats, Singers, etc, do they actually do some performances at times? Or would I have to use MC to turn them into Service Sims? (Though I think that would make them more into just the Sims likely to be picked when I choose the call one of those professions for a party)
And any tips on what to do when I multiply the body/facial sliders with MC? I try and can't manage to make any somewhat-decent looking Sim with them multiplied, because one tiny tick with the mouse on the slider and the entire facial structure I want to change is completely different, when I just want to tweak it a bit. |
Quote: Originally posted by CatMuto
Depends on what you mean by an NPC. If they are in proper resident households with families of their own, then sims have careers. I'm not entirely sure that SP pushes progression on the performance careers as strongly as it does the others, though it certainly seems like it should provided they have a place in town to actually perform other than on the street or in parks. You're not seeing this at all? Actually, going back a step, are you using NRaas SP? With EA's progression, I believe that all bets would be off regarding anything career and inactive sim related. Service Sims are different, yes those are the ones in the service pool that you can call to your house to provide their service or perform, not the ones that progress through a career in town. You can't actually make a sim into a Service Sim, well you sort of can add them to the pool but there's no guarantee those are the sims who will show when you order one up, and Service Sims are always homeless. With LN they may appear to "live" in the darkened out private rooms in the non-usable portions of LN style apartment buildings, but they cannot have their own proper household. On the slider question, I think I know what you mean. Not in my game at the moment, but pretty sure I've been able to work well enough with the slider multiplier not set higher than 2x together with a generous offset to allow for more negative values. Or maybe it's 3x? What kind of multiplier value are you using there? It would be interesting to see what other players have to say on both questions. |
Adding my own stupid question re:sliders. There are some pre-mades in EA worlds with a negative value for the chin depth slider (example is Justin Kayes from Twinbrook). The lowest possible value in-game is 0, however, and when I increase the slider range I still cannot go below 0 with that particular slider. Why?

The performers also need to have the required levels. |

And yes, I am using Nraas SP right now. I have the multiplier set to x2 so far, because with anything higher, I feel like the change is too drastic. Kinda wish there was a little tab on each side of the slider, so I can click that to go down only 1 or 2 'points' (with MC letting me see numerical values on the slider) instead of how many a simple mouse movement can do. |

The only noticeable effect should be the decrease in filesize of your package. If nothing happens, it's possible that the file has been compressed already. |
The Laundry - the ability to wash clothes. That came with the Base game in Sims 3, right? Seemed kinda... useless. When my sim wants to meet other sims he/she always go to the Bookstore+Bistro+grocery store. That's where the action is.
I gave up chasing after "hot spots" from Late Night and the Laundromat is always dead. I may be asking because it appears EA thinks I'm gonna pay $9.99 for what was a fail in Sims 3. That's 3 gallons of gas for the DeLorean. |

Laundry is one of the things that I'm slightly jealous of my simmies over. Drop a bag of unsorted laundry into the washer. Then move the dripping wet bag to the dryer. Then pull out a stack of folded clothing which you sniff once and put into your pocket. Presto: all the sheets are changed and everyone has clean laundry. And if you get tired of dealing with laundry, just sell the hampers and ignore the wishes for anything to do with laundry.
If you have a hamper and no washer/dryer you can take your laundry to the laundromat, so I'm pretty sure it's the hamper that triggers whether or not you have laundry. |

I just hated all the laundry Seasons provides. Sims come in the house? Costume change! About to leave? Costume change! That's not even counting working out, swimming, or going to sleep, so then you need to have hampers in the front hall, the study, the side of the pool, every bedroom, every bathroom, and by any exterior door. Then the maid or designated cleaner spends half their life shifting around laundry instead of doing other things. I don't even want to think about what Pets would add in to that because of how they feel the need to "negatively react" or "neutrally react" to every single dish. I swear the dogs spend every spare second barking/growling at the dishes in my game!

I think having any laundry related item (so any hampers/washers/dryers/clotheslines) on the lot will trigger the creation of laundry piles. I'm pretty sure you don't need a hamper, because I'm like 90% sure I've played households that did laundry but didn't have a hamper to collect it in.
As for the pets, I'm very familiar with their need to react to every single plate or bowl to ever exist, but I don't remember them ever reacting to laundry piles. |
I use these any time I want to have laundry in game: http://www.simlogical.com/ContentUp...e/uploads/2266/

This would prevent every sock from weighing 35 pounds because my friend's 4-year old wants to help with the laundry and can't reach. |

Sure, that's simple. Every bit of what I posted above about the way in which I do laundry was total nonsense. Except for my not really liking front loaders in real life, that part still stands. ![]() But while I'm here again, I'll cast a vote in favor of Nona's Super Hampers that orose mentioned and linked to. Those things are great and in most cases you only one of the super variety per lot. |
@sweetdevil ah they must be compressed already then because nothing chances. Thank you.
Uuh I do my laundry exactly how igazor jokingly said. He even got my towels part right, and let's not forget the t-shirts that have forgotten their original shape long time ago. Also most of my socks have extra holes in them which reminds me to visit Kmart. Folding? pffft, staight to my floordrobe they go in their untamed, free form. |

You described exactly how I did laundry in Uni. I stopped ironing the grey masses of clothes when the Dorm janitor would come down to the basement where the ironing boards were and tell me of the wonders of Esperanto. I'd rather wear wrinkles. But what I really mean is the laundromat community lot. You just go there, click on a machine, do laundry. No hampers at home needed. No need to bring dirty clothes from home. It appears to be all the benefits of the at home clothes washer with none of the negatives of stinky clothes. |

This is the Sims 3, not Dwarf Fortress! (FTR, I was referring to carrots, but whatever floats your boat!)
