I think terrain paint was patched in... I seem to remember getting new terrain paints after patching, but that was a long time ago.
(And no, I STILL have not figured out where my booklet with the install code for the base game got off to... It's a pre-2012 disc, so I'm determined to use it to install the game onto my new computer.)
But I don't think Store terrain paint would be available to anyone without the world.

Hi Ghost and thank you.

To find serial code for TS3 DVD: https://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-...-p/14230#U14230

Town debt was described as the amount of income vs. wealth. Property and possessions are wealth and income is cash on hand. The idea was that if your town has much greater wealth than it should as a ratio with cash, this will somehow corrupt your town. It isn't a game mechanic that a player interacts with, more like a weird glitch exposed by overuse of the freerealestate cheat. Perhaps it is an urban legend.
I really would like to know more about this, because if it were true then all uses of "kaching" and "motherlode" or the "familyfunds" cheats should have such an effect, too.

Another question, was terrain paint patched in? If I use terrain paint from an EA store world in a lot I create (a paint that is available in build mode), and someone without the world downloads the lot, will they see the correct terrain paint?
Several terrain paints from Hidden Springs, Lunar Lakes and Aurora Skies were patched into the game and can be used by everybody who has a fully patched 1.67 (or 1.69) game. The dark, almost black soil from Aurora Skies, for example, was reused in Midnight Hollow and it remains visible on lots even without Aurora Skies installed.
If a terrain paint in Build Mode doesn't come with any additional symbol in its thumbnail then it is available to everyone.

What does not work, however, is when you use a terrain paint from a Store world that was extracted from that world and placed in your game as a package file. Even if users have that world and place the lot in that world, the terrain paint won't show up on those lots. They will have to install the package mod, too.

I don't know much of anything about aliens as I modded them out of my game shortly after Seasons came out. That said, I found the following regarding male sims.

Thank you. Now the question is does the Unexpected Weight Gain moodlet appear immediately after the Feeling Probed moodlet expires (9 hours) or does it take 24 hours like a regular pregnancy? And will MC show this pregnancy under Status/Relationship immediately after the probing?
:desperately hits the NRaas Bat-Sign button, which seems to be broken:

What mod(s) do you use to get rid of the aliens? I wouldn't mind those nightly visits around town if they at least stopped their littering. (Do they really think that anyone falls for their Hansel-and-Gretel-style baits?)

igazor 3rd Jul 2018 10:21 AM

(responds groggily to the bat-sign button) I've never played with alien pregnancies myself so am not very familiar with the exact sequence of events that lead up to the actual pregnancy being recorded as such. It's just not my cup of batwing tea. I think you know where to find us and other players who do use this feature, though there seem to be plenty here.

Does anyone know what exactly was edited in this flowers set by Pocci to make them placeable on slots? I have some cc recolors of the base game ones that look much nicer than ea's garish colors and I wanna make them placeable as well. In the override file there are only OBJD and FTPT resources if that's any clue.

Edit: I know in the objd it's probably the slot placement flags that are changed (duh), but what about the other one?

Thinking I should move my game to Steam, but I have never downloaded it from Steam, so the only install I have is Origin. Do I have to completely uninstall the Origin version before I start to INSTALL from Steam ? I know you can not have both versions, but can I play my Origin one until my downloads are finished off Steam ? or is that a big no no no ? Do the Steam Downloads automatically install the game ? immediately after? My main reason for moving it .. is the launcher seems to always be messing up and I have to uninstall Origin and reinstall it ..

Yes, you must uninstall the Origin version and clean the Windows Registry (Piriform's CCleaner, the free version, is a good tool for that) before installing the Steam version. No, you cannot play while the download and install procedures are taking place. Steam will download and install the base game and all of the EP/SPs you select all in one step and it's usually pretty painless. How long it takes though will of course depend on your Internet connection.

You will, however, need to redownload and reinstall your TS3 store content and worlds (if any) by way of the Launcher in order to continue using them. For me, that was the most time consuming part.

Yes, that is what is holding me back is the download time. .. It said it would take 13 days the first time I looked at it .. and then I went to Origin.

As SusannaG already pointed out, usually what happens is that after a few minutes or half an hour even, the estimate for the total download calms down and makes more sense. It's really a function of both your Internet connection and how busy the Steam servers are at the time. I don't think anyone ever really waited 13 days for an install like that unless their own Internet connection was being throttled, but then Origin would have taken just as long.

I'm tired of the bad routing and things missing from University world.

My stupid question: I once saw a tutorial on how to edit or even replace the EA standard Vacation and University worlds. I can't find the tutorial.

Worth a shot. Man, she knows how to make nice buildings. So, there's a rug mod that turns the buildings into rabbit holes, and another mod to make them work; then you have to register on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday or it glitches, and if your sim ages up it glitches. ... I like University because I can level up without aging tho.

I have been looking for where I found this information, but I cannot find it. You are right about money cheats being part of the equation. The advice was to place a household with "freerealestate", and then give the next household a "motherlode" to buy their house, to balance it out, and then use "freerealestate" again, then "motherlode" again, back and forth until all households are placed. I do not think the average player will ever encounter this glitch. It was reported when a player uses "freerealestate" to fill a world with 75 or more free lots. Since no one else has encountered this info so far, it may not be accurate. If I find the source, I will pass it along.

Can sims get days off unrelated to getting kids, being sick or holidays? I thought they did, but I dont remember haha. I could be remembering sims 2 here.
And if sims can get days off, how do they do that?

Blowing up or burning down their workplace is usually pretty effective. Sleeping with the boss should be, but that one tends to backfire.

I can't think of any other scenarios that trigger paid days off, other than the player granting them some by way of MasterController (MC Cheats). Or, of course, vacationing in a world where time is standing still and there is no work requirement.

Ghost sdoj 4th Jul 2018 4:54 PM

I think you're remembering Sims 2, where they built up vacation days to use when they wanted to. In Sims 3, they are assigned vacation days which happen immediately, even if you really don't want your sim to be spending the next 2 weeks at home with a locked wish or an opportunity that requires going to work the next day. (Although they can still call in sick, even if they really are not.)

Although if you think about it, sending your sim on a vacation would count as days off...

Edit
And igazor ninja'd me.

Yes, but...TS3 has assigned "vacation days" for reasons other than those stated?

Ghost sdoj 4th Jul 2018 5:10 PM

I'm missing half of the EPs, so I'm not the best one to answer that. But the difference I was thinking about was that in Sims 2 they had an entry for the number of vacation days the sim had earned. A sim who wanted to skip work would use those paid days up before going to unpaid vacation days.

In Sims 3 the only way to tell how many vacation days your sim has is by the "work starts in 9 days and 18 hours" thing on the career tab. So you are using them as they get given.

(Also a side note: getting the boss pregnant is a great way of keeping the boss at home where her work performance can't increase. By the time she gets back to work you should be in a higher level job than she was. Of course this means that you've got a Supervillain whose boss is still a Con Artist, but hey. Con Artist. She's doing her job. )

(yes, my Evil sim did that.)

igazor 4th Jul 2018 6:26 PM

For those so engaged, NRaas > MC > (Sim) > Status > Career shows the number of paid days off a sim has coming to them, which yes they will take right away rather than being able to bank them. To change that value, NRaas > MC > (Sim) > Intermediate > Career > Days Off > (positive numbers to add, negative to take some away).

I know not everyone plays with NRaas or has dozens of commands like this hot-keyed; sometimes we who have been using them for so long tend to take them for granted I guess.

Not gonna get involved in the discussion of paid days off, but you can take up to 5 days of unpaid leave via the phone under, I think, Jobs and Professions... IIRC you need only one or two days of regular work afterwards until you can ask for more days off again.

NRaas Woohooer has options that allow teen-older romance, and further woohoo, to be unlocked. If using NRaas StoryProgression, there also must be support for that activity on the teen and older age-related SP castes under Flirts and Romance.

There is no "pedo" designation for those in such relationships among NRaas mods, if that's what you meant. That's an AwesomeMod thing.

An 18-year-old would be considered an adult anyway. Unless you mind height difference, why not have YA in relationship with adult?

StoryProgression: On City Hall or an in-game computer under Caste Options on the Teen caste, unblock Pregnancy:Allow Participation and then Pregnancy:Allow Can Be Pregnant.

That will enable teens to be and stay pregnant, but doesn't offer an on-screen way for them to become so. For that Woohooer is needed as under EA standard, there is no teen woohoo.
NRaas > Woohooer > Woohoo > Allow Teen Woohoo
If you want Try for Baby and Teen Try for Baby to be autonomous, those settings are under Woohooer > Try for Baby and the same for Risky.

You will also probably want teen maternity clothes or else a pregnant teen's midsection will disappear in-game (floating head syndrome) when the baby bump is supposed to appear.

Do I need to remove / add markers to the problem building? Something else?
It's an apartment building, right? And the Sim in question is a homeless Sim who's supposed to perform some role as a mixologist, or stylist or something similar?
I see this from time to time in various settings and I haven't really figured out why it happens in some apartment buildings while in others it doesn't. They are supposed to spawn in front of the door and not behind it, which is the thing that causes them to get stuck. A common pattern I can only assume thus far is that it happens most often with NPC doors that are on a ground floor
The only permanent solution might be to simply disable the affected apartment door from being an NPC door. Other tricks like deleting a piece of wall or adding an arch to the wall that separates the public space from the hidden one and then hoping that they find their way out through these gaps I found largely ineffectual.

Click on the teen and then go NRaas/MasterController/Advanced/Family/AddParents/Current Lot (or any other filter) and then choose the parents from the pop-up list. You might need the MasterController Cheats module for this to work.

Poor Igor (He's one of mine)
I can't say that I've ever had trouble with that tower; in my previous save my Sim actually lived there.
So, I guess he gets stuck in that empty room behind and next to the elevators on the ground floor. If that's the case, reset him and then shift-click on the door and choose "Unmake NPC Door". He should then re-spawn after a while either in front of the elevator or in front of the NPC door on the penthouse floor. I don't think that it's something to do with the build itself because the markers look correct. If he continues spawning behind the door you can try deleting the hidden room marker on the ground floor, too, although that will make the apartment more expensive, or simply delete the door.

(Hm, I really should finally make the thread about this issue that I've been planning for a while)

Does fighting always drop a Sim's hygiene and energy into the red? A burglar made the mistake of trying to break into my Evil, Mean Spirited Sim's home and my Sim kicked her butt. My Sim's hygiene and energy is in the red. (I rarely play with those traits, but wanted to try out an "Evil Witch".)

Edit to add: Speaking of "Evil Witch" why does my Sim not have the "Play with Magic" option?

Pretty much yes, unless they just woke up, had a shower, and then the burglar entered.

A pool party is the only situation that I know that actively encourages Sims to use the pool on a residential lot.
Sims 3 is actually programmed to discourage it. Pool usage by a visitor is considered a breach of privacy and will cause the host and owner of the lot to be displeased and receive the negative "rude guest" (or something along those lines) moodlet, unless the guest has the "Inappropriate But In A Good Sense" lifetime reward.

igazor 14th Jul 2018 11:36 PM

How about if your active sims take the lead and use "Swim Here With" to entice guests to jump into the pool with them?

Uhm, wasn't tinypic the service that began replacing old photos with newer ones, or rather reusing old URLs? Which some time ago led to the problem that some of the replacements were of a more "mature" nature and a whole group of moderators here at MTS had to spend days weeding out the porn from most of the picture threads.
And it's owned by Photobucket, so things may change unexpectedly.

In IP, for instance, I often get notices of the same sim being stuck, over and over. When I find them on their home lot, they have a routing failure, such as can't get past the pool. I fix the poor designed area, and then this sim is freed from the endless cycle of stuck. But why do they get stuck in the first place, if they are hibernating?

Don Babilon 16th Jul 2018 8:55 AM

They only hibernate when they are inside. But the main question is why do they end up behind a pool and stuck if they are neither played nor in high detail (close to your main family or an object of either meta-autonomy or story progression)? Picture?

Do you have the stuck check in Overwatch on and have then also enabled the reset when stuck function? Try disabling the reset. I have both disabled permanently, as it caused more problems for me than it solved. I can't say that I ever encountered anything like this in Isla Paradiso, so I'm reluctant to blame the lot design there. Admittedly lots in Isla Paradiso have other issues, but this one is new to me.

igazor 16th Jul 2018 9:19 AM

Sims do not get stuck while they are hibernating. They get stuck when they instantiate, that is come out of hibernation because it is time for them to be someplace or the game is calling for them to do so, in an unfortunate spot. Overwatch stuck report on, stuck auto-reset off, can help us find the exact spot that is causing the problem, but sounds like that's what attuned is already doing (or something equivalent).

If all else fails and you keep getting into in some kind of instantiate-sim gets stuck-you reset-happens again kind of loop and it doesn't make sense to rearrange the residential lot just to avoid this, you could try playing with the lot MC > Opened just to see what happens. That should keep the sims who live there animated all of the time, so there will be no hibernation. If you do that on enough inactive lots at the same time though, there will likely be a performance hit and inactive lots tend to close themselves back up again the next time the game is loaded, so it's really more of an experiment than a long-term solution.

The NRaas HomeOpener mod automagically opens all inactive residential lots for you and keeps them that way. But interesting though that can be to fool around with, for most worlds unless they have very few inactive households the performance hit will be intolerable.

They go into the UserPresets package, along with all the patterns you save into Favourites, they aren't separate files like the saved sims.

Dream Catching switches will preserve promised wishes and opportunities. Non-Dream Catching switches will not. When using NRaas mods, it depends on the method used to switch as to whether it is Dream Catching.

MC > Make Active Household (or Sim) is Dream Catching only if MC is set to be so under MC > Settings > Retain Dreams and Opportunities.
SP > Make Active is Dream Catching only if the household is set to Retain Dreams and Opportunities under SP > Household Options (or I guess a caste or the entire town could be set or unset this way).
Selector's right-click to switch actives is always Dream Catching, if right-clicks are allowed under Selector's settings.
PortraitPanel to switch actives is always Dream Catching if PP is allowed to switch actives under its settings (and if you keep inactives on the portrait panel).
Split households while moving and switching actives "the EA way" by way of Edit Town are governed by the equivalent setting in Mover.

Note that too many Dream Managers running at the same time on a given world can cause a huge performance hit. How many is "too many" depends on the system and how large or complex the world is. Could be 1 household or 20. We can see how many DMs are running by doing, on City Hall/in-game computer, something harmless like MC > Sim > Basic > Family Tree (for example) > Filter to Has Dream Manager. We can't switch DMs off selectively, but we can switch them off for all inactives with MC > Town > Drop All Dreams and Opportunities (this won't affect the currently active household).

The NRaas Dreamer mod enhances the dream system in a few ways, but doesn't change the basic concepts of Dream Managers and how they work.

Why is it that single beds are less comfortable than double beds? I can't figure that out. Have nobody at EA slept on a comfortable single bed? Even singles and doubles in the same set will be different and that doesn't make sense. I can't get my kids to have a good night's sleep.

Okay, I have one that I haven't quite been able to figure out: Who is Don Babilon (the sim, that is, not the user)? Is it Don Lothario with a new last name? Enquiring minds want to know. I feel like I oughta know this and yet...

Heheh, he's a downloadable sim from MTS, created by the user Don Babilon. He's a mixture of a "gentleman thief" archetype and a "male socialite from the '30s" archetype - the sim, that is, not the user (I think). I also have him in my game, though currently not active in any of my neighborhoods.

igazor 20th Jul 2018 6:58 PM

I wish the Don question had been drawn out a bit more before the correct answer was provided. Was envisioning something like...

"Tonight on Biography we answer the question on everyone's minds, 'Just who is Don Babilon?'"

Was going to make popcorn and everything. Guess I'll have to find something else to do tonight.

I got one. Supernatural added the Mood lamps. But what purpose does they serve really? As far as I can tell all they do is give your Sim a moodlet and that's all. In Sims 4 it would make sense (wth it being based all around moods) but in Sims 3?

I suppose that having more room to sprawl around in before you discover that you've gone too far and are waking up halfway to the floor is automatically considered more comfortable, even for those who cannot fall out of the bed?

The various auras make certain interactions either easier or harder. (Pink auras can get even a grumpy, unflirty sim into a romantic mood.) Mood lamps are also useful to leave running if you have fairies that you don't like, because they end up getting attracted to the light and burning themselves. Over and over. (Of course, this is not so handy if you do like the fairies...). And I've had zombies get distracted by mood lamps around my gardens.

I'm trying to run a store using Ani's Shop from Inventory for the first time. It's meant to be a jewelry/perfume store, using the crafted items from the Glassblowing and Jewelry Making Station. I downloaded a little store with a crafting area in back and I'm trying to get it nicely stocked before I switch to another household. But there are a couple problems:

1. Even though the store is supposed to be closed, it's still drawing sims to it. I'm assuming because I gave it the Hangout lot assignment. I'd mark it as a Consignment Store, but I think I remember reading awhile back that it's not good to have more than one in your town. Am I remembering right? Or was that just referring to the consignment store registers?

2. Before I locked the doors, it seems like sims were buying things on their own, even though my sim isn't at the register. Is that possible?

Easy. Don Babilon is everything Don Lothario wishes to be.

I did try a flirty interaction (heat of the moment kiss) while under pink aura but the other Sim still thought my Sim was creepy. I do remember the lights attracting zombie tho. I used it for that purpose once (God I hate those zombie spawns... one of my Sim even got turned when I wasn't looking. It doesn't make sense for zombies to spawn EVERYWHERE. At least it's temporary unlike Sims 2...).

If you want to disable zombies completely, there's always the Retuner .

Don Babilon 21st Jul 2018 12:11 AM

The mood lamp also changes the skin colour of Sims temporarily, like the jellybeans, and it can cure zombies.

But as low as 4 for the more expensive ones, even in sets where the double goes as high as 10?

Ghost sdoj 21st Jul 2018 4:11 PM

Yeah, that's where the theory breaks down. Unless the one responsible for setting the bed comfort stats has just fallen out of bed and broken something...
There are also double beds which are as expensive as the beds in the catalog next to them which have comfort levels somewhere around 6 when the nearby beds have comfort levels of 10, so it's not (entirely) a matter of making sure that the more expensive beds are more comfortable. And one really nice single bed that came with one of the EPs I actually have and gets used rather often with the transmogrifier to give its script to the bed I actually wanted in the room.

If I want inactive sims to visit my edited World of Wonder lot and the lot I placed roller coaster set from store on more, should I set it to hangout, big park or recreation park? Or maybe something entirely different?

I do have that mod... but I have no experience in altering stuff in it. I guess i could take a glance. At least it keeps the zombie "population" down. before adding that mod three or four zombies could spawn. Now there's like one or two only.

OH! That explains why my sim while "under the influence" couldn't use a mirror. It threw a error about him being "transformed" which had me flabbergasted as he's just human.

Guys, do any of you have this accessory blazer by LiKo? It's not showing up in my game and I'm trying to figure out what exactly is its problem. It'd be good to know if it works in other people's games.

Don't recall, but it's either pg up/down or the home and the end keys.

chokolady 30th Jul 2018 7:51 PM

Is there any danger in using unlockalloutfits on cheat? I wonder if there are any outfits that I should obsolute not use on normal sims. At the moment I want to use the glowing timetraveler(I think its his atleast) outfit and the ghost outfit from ambitions.

Hangout gets the most sims, if that is your goal.

My question, how can I keep deer from eating plants on a community lot? I know Pets came with gnomes who hold signs to keep out wildlife, but do they work, especially on community lots?

I'm not certain about the gnomes, but I think that they don't work, based on that there are several mods around trying to "fix" them - especially on community lots.
Your only chances, I believe, are to either rebuild the lot such that deer cannot reach the plants (fences or raise the ground to make the plants unroutable for four-leggeds) or use a mod that turns autonomous plant eating by horses and deer off.

attuned 2nd Aug 2018 1:42 AM

Thanks Don!

Another community lot plant question: Do zombies eat plants on community lots, or only residential lots?

Don Babilon 2nd Aug 2018 1:45 AM

They eat them on community lots, too; but those eaten by zombies should recover at 5am the next day (except for death flowers, I think).

ETA: And just before you ask the next two questions: no, fences won't keep zombies away, and, yes, sand terrain paint will encourage Sims to autonomously play in the sand and build sandcastles.

Emmett Brown 2nd Aug 2018 3:43 AM

I've discovered that if you don't go to the community lot, the Zombies won't either. Doesn't that make you feel special?!
If you use NRAAS story progression, you can create a Zombie Class, set it for automatic on the Zombie sim type, and then set the lot to keep the Zombie class off the lot. I've not seen any zombies on the lot when I did this, but Don's saying the plants come back at 5 AM makes me wonder if they were on the lot and the plants just recovered.

Okay, here's a stupid question: Can Sims in non-active households die of low needs? I let my game run for 10-12 in game hours just now but the world I'm in isn't meant for regular gameplay, so many Sims will not have access to fridges. Some are in closed-off buildings or basements and need to be let out manually. I don't seem to have lost anyone, but I want to be 100% sure before I continue.

Good question, I'd actually like to know that myself. I'm gonna see if I can test that.

Is there a way for my active to woohoo with an alien? After she was abducted by aliens three times she now has the want to woohoo with an alien. Is that possible and if so how?

Yes, but that would be on your own turf not up in space (off screen) probing them back with their own laboratory equipment. If you can get them to visit or hang out with you, romancing or seducing aliens becomes the same as with any other sim.

So I'm not sure if it happened when I upgraded from 1.63 to 1.67, or when I installed the story progression mod, since I did both of those things around the same time. But lately my sims have bee completely ignoring the fact that their free will is supposed to be off. I have set to "off" in the game's settings. But they still walk around doing stuff anyway. This normally wouldn't be an issue since it's also been letting them have conversations on their own. But some of my sims are also kinda obsessed with certain objects. For example, in one of my households, the mom is obsessed with the deep fryer. Every time I take my eyes off of her she's using the damn thing and eating. Then I got another household where the whole family is obsessed with lounging in the pool.

If you want these sims to have no needs to be fulfilled (possibly more than what you had in mind), you could use SP to put them into Stasis. Or you could try MasterController Resetting them and then saving and reloading the game to see if the preferred changes in autonomy take effect.

Am not aware of any massive changes between 1.63 and 1.67 that would cause such behavioral differences. Not really sure why SP alone would be the culprit either, but my sims never stand still doing nothing for very long either unless my game session is overwhelmed or I've given them an idle animation to keep looping through on purpose using NRaas Animator.

I've noticed that sims are obsessed with the deep fryer and the diving board. I used retuner (you have to enable the object menu in its settings first) to click on them and turn off autonomous use and/or lower the advertised outputs for those items.

AGuyCalledPi 6th Aug 2018 1:38 PM

Yeah, it's a nasty habit. Sims love getting distracted by trivial things that give them satisfaction. I'd almost rather have them on actual crack than dumb shit like rocking chairs. At least it'd make my gameplay more realistic instead of less.

All of the sims who were in the world at the time as you and your sims knew them will be gone. The next time you travel/enroll a sim there, a fresh instance of the world will spawn. Its sims will be the exact same ones you saw the first time, not progressed and the same ages they were originally. Which could be a little unsettling at first if you are playing the original version of one of them (or their descendants) or had moved any of them to homeworlds since then. Any changes you made to the world itself will of course also be gone.

Mspigglypooh 7th Aug 2018 2:48 AM

Would ya'll say the sims 3 runs better when you play through the discs and not updating to 1.69 or going through origin with the update? Or does it not make a difference?

Playing from disc doesn't guarantee that you'll never have a problem, but by keeping Origin out of the picture, it makes problem solving easier as it is one less thing to deal with.

Do female aliens that are born always have green hair? I have a mod that lets female Sims get pregnant from being abducted. My active sim got abducted many times and gave birth to two daughters from her abductions. The oldest is a teen with green hair, and it looks like the toddler daughter will also have green hair. Do aliens ever have the hair of their human parent or always green?

Alien babies formed by abduction do not have a human biological parent. The human is used as a surrogate and their genetics are not involved. Alien babies formed by woohooing and making babies with aliens the more usual way (on this planet) will stand to have genetics from either or both parents.

Orilon 7th Aug 2018 9:21 PM

Thank you for the information. I didn't know that the human is used as a surrogate in an abduction and thought that the child would have the genetics from both.
