If you have awesomemod you can type "backtowork" in the cheat bar after pressing SHIFT+CTRL+C. I've tried it and it works, hope I remembered the cheat right though

lazzybum 14th May 2010 8:39 AM

Thanks Srikandi, I will use that tip for moving in townies faster :D
And Thankies too Clynnc, I do have awesomemod, so I'll def use that rather than using another mod!

vhanster 14th May 2010 1:21 PM

I'm wondering... is it possible to edit a Sim's facial feature when you're already halfway through your game?

Ghost sdoj 14th May 2010 4:17 PM

If you have a mod like the supercomputer or awesome mod you can Edit in CAS for your sim. Otherwise you need to export them and recreate them. Other mods might also have that ability, but those are the two I know about.

Finxxy 14th May 2010 5:40 PM

Ok I have a silly question. I'm on generation 3 of a legacy family. Every time one of the children meets another sim through school the next day that person has aged up. My teen sim met a girl in HS, when she aged up I aged him up, they fell in love 2 sim days later and were married; but instead of being YA she's and adult and going to age up in 10 days. It's keeps happening to me like that. It was the same in several other games I've played. Is there anyway to tell how old a sim is before you marry them? I tend to play with male sims and it's very annoying when they fall in love and get married only to not be able to start a family because she is getting too old. I know it seems silly but I just can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy.

a_az13_a 14th May 2010 8:53 PM

Does the social worker in TS3 take kids away if they don't do their homework, like in TS2?
[/stupid question]

Do I need to install anything to make the Awesome mod function? Cos the last time I tried to install it, the game crashes

If you use Twallan's Supercomputer mod, you can get all kinds of info about sims in town.

Get support for Awesomemod at MATY. And read the instructions very, very carefully before asking any questions

Finxxy 16th May 2010 9:14 PM

Thanks for the info Shrikandi I try to stay away from awesomemod and the like cause it tends to slow down my computer a lot. I guess I can always just have them move in first LOL.

One more silly question. Are the TV shows in the Sims 3 made with the Sims 2? 'Cause that looks a hell of a lot like TS2.

Yep, they're made from the Sims 2 Sometimes I watch them just for that feeling of nostalgia

Menaceman44 16th May 2010 10:14 PM

Is it possible to extract the music from the radio stations like it was with Sims 2? I've looked in the program files but can't find anything so I assume the answer is no.
I'd just like to be able to listen to the music outside of the game.

Finxxy 16th May 2010 11:07 PM

clynnc19, I knew it! I figured it out from watching the cooking competition on the cooking channel. Fun times.

I second this. Or also is it possible to get the guitar music that sims play when learning to play the guitar? I really love some of those songs and it's great background music.

Can't Build on Lot

In Sunset Valley my sims are living at 55 Water Lily Lane. After I bought the house I found out there were 3 ghosts living there already, so I ended up evicting them. Now I want to add a room to the house, but there are these weeds or long grass patches growing on some of the squares around the yard and specifically where I want to build the room and when I try to build on those squares the game won't let me. If I click on the weeds it says 'can't pick up an object in use'. Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on with this.

I had this same problem and it took me a moment to figure it out. In fact my sims are even living on the same lot (I think). All you have to do is go to live mode and have your sim pick the weeds. They're the same weeds that grow around harvestables HOWEVER you don't have to have any gardening skill level to pick them. You do have to click on each one individually though.

if you don't want to do that there is always the moveobjects on cheat. Not sure why it says they're in use. game glitch perhaps?

Thanks so much - I'll try that. They do look like the weeds that grow around plants.

1.) If you have aging turned off in your neighborhood, can you still age up certain sims with cheats?

2.) If you turn story progression off, can you make your sims still have kids?

Hey there! 2 romantic silly questions:

1) Can another sim that you don't control propose marriage to your own sim? (Or do you have to do it everytime???)

2)What happens when you propose marriage to a tourist that lives in France, Egypt, etc? Do you get to live there? Or do they come back with you?

Thanks

1) You have to do it.

2) They come back with you. You may have noticed that vacation hoods don't support basic Sim life functionality... like jobs, and time that passes

I surprised that they can't as other sims can autonomously ask you to move in with them. I would have thought propose and move in would require a similar level of autonomy.

I could be mistaken but I believe that werismyki's Autonomous Romantic Socials allows for that? I know it does in teens but I believe it allows for that in adults as well. Again I could be mistaken but I love that mod because it makes so many more things realistic IMHO.

Ghost sdoj 18th May 2010 6:39 PM

Yes, it does. We have that, and I had a sim get married before I was ready for him to. (He was in a contest)

ETA:It also allows autonomous "try for baby"... I had to rethink my last two rounds because of that!

Interesting, I'll have to try this

LethalLaurie 18th May 2010 10:01 PM

The child Sim of my family can't do her homework. Her needs are sufficient but I can't select it from her inventory or even move it. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix? Also, I have no mods and my game is up to date.

el_flel 18th May 2010 10:29 PM

You'll need to ask that in the help forums LethalLaurie, link at the top of the screen.

I'm going to have to try out that Autonomous Romantic Socials hack I think. It's something I really miss from TS2, always good for it's hilarious shock value!

Is it not possible to have the sim you're currently playing move into another sim's house without doing it via edit town? I am sure that I read you could, but I can't find a way. 'Move in' only allows you to transfer non-playable sims into your household, not the other way around.

Finxxy 18th May 2010 11:05 PM

el_flel It's even more funny if you have the pregnancy chime noise turned off! Also I believe that you have to evict the current family and then move them from the family placement screen in with the other family. Being able to only have one active family is something I don't like from TS3 ):

ShortyBoo 19th May 2010 12:01 AM

I've asked this before, but I've never gotten an answer. If I play my town with aging on & story progression off, how will this effect the vacation hoods? Like will they all just eventually get old and die off, or does the story progression only effect the main neighborhood? It's never been a problem with the main hood since I play all the families in a cycle, but since you can't play the vacation houses, I can't do the same with them.

Finxxy 19th May 2010 12:31 AM

Aging does not effect the sims in the other cities as far as I know

If you don't have AwesomeMod, yes, they can. In fact, you don't actually get a choice of whether or not to accept. You'll just find out that you're suddenly married and have kids. What's this, you say? You're already married to someone else and have your own kids? TOO BAD! Now you're married to this new sim!

I just realized that townies like to pop out babies a day or 2 before they turn to elders... and they would have a child thats already an adult, so now that adult has a sibling thats a newborn! Is there a way for them to not have babies unrealistically late?

I know what you mean I had a sim and she moved out so her adult child could live in the house. She was turning into an elder in 5 days and her hubby was dead so I wasn't to worried about it. She managed to get pregnant and married before she turned into a elder. That made it really weird when gen 3 went to highschool with her great half uncle :/

It is possible but you have to wait for the other sim to ask your sim to move in with them. It's only happened to me once or twice.

ahh! So my self sim died of old age during a party at someone else's house. I was looking at her grave, and once the grim reaper disappears, the grave went transparent and disappeared too >:O!! Is there a way I can find it? I looked in the household's inventory but its not there :/

Go to the graveyard, click on the mausoleum, select manage the dead, and see if the gravestone for sim-you is there?

Only if your current household knew the Sim though as far as I know. I've not had any Sims that I'm attached to die yet though.

I have a really stupid question...

how do I go about installing all of these awesome mods on a Mac if the instructions for downloading monkeybars (uh I don't know what it's called...?) is in PC format & they do not work the same way. My folders are not the same at all. I don't even know where to look for the program that automatically opens up .package files.

& also, can your sim have a wife & be in a relationship with another sim?

I can't answer your first question because I don't use a mac but the answer to the second is yes.

CleoSombra 25th May 2010 6:01 AM

Where do you buy picnic baskets? I wanted to build a community lot for kids (playground with jungle gym, swings, slides . . . of course no kids beside my own show up). I wanted to place picnic tables, but low and behold, they cannot be found anywhere. They're in Central Park, but nowhere else to my knowledge.

Is there a way to access picnic baskets?

Also, do townies even exist besides service workers? o_O

AngelicScot 25th May 2010 2:32 PM

Picnic baskets can be found in the Outdoor section under cooking/food. The rest of the question, I haven't experienced, so I can't give you an answer.

Ghost sdoj 25th May 2010 6:23 PM

How do you define "townies"? The game does randomly create sims that are trying to move into town, as well as the homeless population.

And I consider any EA sim that I never plan to play to be a townie. If they marry one of my sims they become an ex-townie. :D

There are instructions here for both PC and Mac: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...g_Package_Files

You don't need to open up .package files They just have to be put in the correct folder.

deanna12 25th May 2010 8:44 PM

I'm hoping someone can answer my stupid question. I have since turned Story Progression off in my game because it has moved out two in-game families that I was hoping my player controlled sims would get to know better.

First the game moved out the Altos, and just before the little message popped up to inform me of this unwanted move, I saw Holly Alto carrying around a toddler that she supposedly had out of wedlock or whatever around town. I thought that was interesting. I was hoping to play the family eventually.

Another Sim that the Story Progression moved out is Agnes Crumplebottom. I am so mad about this since I did want to play her house too, but now I can't.

I also cannot find Xander Clavell around town since Story Progression totally moved his parents out their original house and had them shacking up with another family because I still see Bessie Clavell around town. I have searched every house in town for Xander to no avail. I guess he's gone too.

What I'm asking is, is there any way to summon families that the game has moved out of town or are they gone permanantly?

I also don't want to use hacks in my game this time around so hacks will not help me. Any other suggestions or are those sims gone forever?

Thanks.

Unless those Sims are saved in the Sim bin, they are gone forever. You CAN get them back by starting a new, clean save file of the same town but that means making new Sims for yourself, too.

Also, other than using a mod like Awesomemod or Twallan's Story Progression Mod or turning off EA story progression altogether, you won't be able to control what the other families in your town do while you aren't playing them.

Edit: This includes them moving out of town permanently, getting married, having babies, everything and anything. It's the nature of a dynamic, open town.

CleoSombra 26th May 2010 1:18 AM

Angelic - is that for World Adventures? 'Cause I only have the base game and it's not there for me.

I define townies as people I could never possibly play (i.e., would never move into the houses).

What do you mean . . "trying to move in?" o3o

Finxxy 26th May 2010 2:11 AM

I define townies as anyone I'm not currently playing. That's really here nor there except to say that my town is full of townies because everyone from NPCs, to random people generated for jobs, to people like the Wolffes or someone like that and they're all the hell over the place in my game. Though I have noticed lately that they've been slow to spawn and a lot of times they'll take teens or YA and just age they up when they are needed. Which can be really frustrating when it comes to dating.

AngelicScot 26th May 2010 4:17 AM

No, it's in that location for base game too. But I've never tried to build something from scratch. If you can set the "room" filter, it would be under Outdoor. If not there, try the food section, ie; stoves, party table, etc. It should be where the party table is, at the very least.

I consider any EA created sim a townie, but often I don't think of npc's as townies unless they start hanging out with my sims out of hours!

I think picnic baskets may be one of the items that aren't available in buy mode on community lots, I can never find them when building on a community lot but can when on a residential lot

You can find picnic baskets in buydebug mode.

suzetter 26th May 2010 8:14 PM

You can find picnic baskets lying around parks. I have a potential klepto toddler as I looked in her inventory and found she had not only taken toys from a community lot but a picnic basket and guitar (??) as well --where she found the guitar and how she took it I have no idea.

I consider any EA made Sims townies unless they are a service person and then I consider them an NPC. I wish they would put the Non-playable back in NPC.

Child with mixed genetics in CAS

Does any of you know: Is it acctually possible to create two parents and a kid in CAS and have the child have the parents mixed genetics??? Like: create parents and press button to generate a child?
I know that you can adjust the relationship afterwards, but whats the point when having a totally random child..?

el_flel 27th May 2010 1:03 PM

Yeah it is. Make both parents and then when you click on the new sim icon there's an option to make a child (the picture is a dummy). It works the same way as in TS2.

Im tired of having the custom hair styles for toddlers and children! How can I put the hair I dowload on toddlers and children?

Menaceman44 28th May 2010 7:58 PM

Is it normal for NPC Sims to seemingly cease to exist once they age past the allowed age for the NPC? I had a maid who stopped showing one day to be replaced with two new ones. Thing is, he doesn't show in the relationship panel of my Sim any longer and they were almost friends.

You should be able to select the child and have them go to a mirror and change it to what whatever style you want--of course, it has to be set to work for toddlers and children.

I had that happen a few times as well. Once with a firefighter and once with a pizza delivery person. I've found if you do something to perminate (is that a word?) them such as have them move in or marry them etc then they will stay. I've not become friends with one and not done one of those two things so I'm not sure if just becoming friends with one will make them stay. Not sure how much that helps...

My sim baby got taken by the social worker, when her family got killed in a fire. The baby and her sister were the only ones to survive, now the sister is a YA and would like to adopt the baby back to the family, but when I called for adoption, I got a random baby. Is there any way to get the child back? I can see her in the sister's relationship panel, but can't call her of course because she's a baby.

sopye 31st May 2010 10:55 AM

Okay, I have a couple of stupid questions for anyone. Why do my sims all have clothing on when they take showers? One has underwear on, the others wear nightclothes. And my second, are you able to delete an item in CAS, most particulary clothing? I was able to find some conflicting items of cc, due to another thread, that was making my babies all screwed up, and deleted them thru the launcher, yes, they are sims3packs. However, when I was going thru the clothing during a game, I saw one of the shirts still inside CAS, but the button for deletion won't light up. I have the base game and WA only

Arisuka 31st May 2010 11:12 AM

They have clothing on, because you have CC that is categorized as swim or underwear.

Menaceman44 31st May 2010 11:44 AM

Or they have the Never Nude trait?

The delete button in CAS is only for deleting custom designs, not the actual clothing item.

VampireSim 31st May 2010 3:18 PM

My Sunset Valley is overcrowded with teenager. They are going to school, into the building and after a few minutes they appear in front of the school building.
It's not depending on personal traits, it happens to all teenagers and children.

I read here, that you can place a second school, but this building doesn't work.
Do you have any idea, how to dissolve the problem? Can you really use two schools in one neighborhood?

Fernweather 31st May 2010 3:33 PM

If you use Awesomemod you can use two schools and send the children to one school and the teens to the other. You would have to go around from house to house reassigning the students the you want to go to the new school though.

In the base game, I'm pretty sure you can't get her back. It's not like Sims 2 where adoption brings home taken children.

I'm not sure why the shadows do that. Sometimes in my game they look blocky like that and other times they are nice and smooth.

Do you mean, that somewhere in my clothing bin is a wrong categorization, or that my sims are wearing something wrong? They all do the turn around to switch to nude before getting in, they just don't get nude. Also none of them have the never nude trait

sopye, from the FAQs: Game Help:Showering with clothing onwiki

Yay, FAQs!

Where do I go or what do I do to play a ranked chess match?

mangaroo 1st Jun 2010 5:58 AM

Finxxy, on a lot with a chessboard, use your phone to call the next-ranked chess opponent.

When you take the urn of a dead sim to the Science Facility (with an opportunity), and revive the dead sim as a playable ghost. Do they have a unlimited life? Or do they 'die' again after some time?

Really stupid questions:
1. Does adoption satisfy the wish to have a baby with someone?
2. What happens if you marry (or just ask to move in) a service sim, like a maid or pizza delivery guy? I guess they can't keep their jobs Would they become unemployed?

Yes

They become unemployed and a new one is generated.

Daiquiri 2nd Jun 2010 7:58 PM

TaylaJay and Ranissa - thank you

I would usually use same sex pregnancy mod, but it's good to know adoption works, too, in case I can't use the mod. Like now. :D

Forgot about this one:
I think I read/heard somewhere that there is a hidden trait for the baby, if you have it with the pizza guy - or did I just make that one up? It's possible, really.

jaydock 2nd Jun 2010 9:13 PM

Is anybody else having problems with the music volume? My stereos are always REALLY loud. I have "music" in the options menu down to the lowest it can go and the stereo volume on low, and sometimes it'll be fine, but then a new song will come on and it'll be insanely loud. Like, I-have-to-take-off-my-headphones loud.
What's up with this?

masterforger 2nd Jun 2010 9:36 PM

Yeah, they get the Pizza Appreciator Trait, which gives them the "Amazing Meal" buff every time they eat pizza.

Can you be dating more than one sim at the same time?

You can have more than one "romantic interest" at a time, but you can only have one boyfriend/girlfriend at a time.

Is anyone else having turning issues with the new patch? What I mean is when I click on the rotate buttons down in the lower left corner, it used to swing around pretty quickly to change my view. Since the patch, I have to hold the button AND click the < or > button at the same time to get it to go half as fast as it used to. Is it me or did it change?

Edit: Holy crap, did they change the number of days for each life span? Normal now says 1600 days! Unless Twallan added that to his updated mods, no, I do not have a mod that increases them. It's saying 32 days until my new baby ages up. Crazy. I'll check Twallan's site, to make sure it isn't that, though.

Also, it's taking a bit for the tooltips to pop up when I mouse over things like wants they've rolled or how late they'll sleep. Anyone else?

bnhoss 3rd Jun 2010 12:52 AM

When I try to install Sims 3, a window pops up saying "Open with- choose the file you want to use to open this file" then under that it has recommended programs- "adobe reader". what do I do with it now? I could not find an answer to this anywhere else.

What lot type do you have to choose, to be able to place a school on the lot? So far i have been able to place all the other rabbit holes, but the school is always un-placeable.
I just installed Ambition and have been editing my new town. I even have one lot in my bin that has the school in it, but when I place it, everything else is still there except for the school object.

Also, I noticed a nice bug that when I used the flatten tool, (the one that flattens the whole lot at once), my whole town turned blue, then in a stroke of stupidity I saved. But the town stayed blue even after I exited and returned, so that town got deleted. Then I made a new town, just to retest this issue, and it was easy to reproduce. This is not a question, just a, don't do what I did type of message. I do have the new awesome installed, and tomorrow I will test this without it.

Is it possible to hide certain outfits etc. in CAS, or even delete them?
I noticed there's couple objects (shoes and makeup) in my game that will cause enormous lag in the game if used, and I'd like to prevent them from being chosen accidentally or otherwise appearing in the game. I can't delete the separate files because they're merged into bigger .package files.

I have Ambitions.

Can you be a photogapher in the sims 3 ambitions???

RoseCity 6th Jun 2010 2:08 AM

Are there cloudy days in the game now? The sky was gray and everything seemed dark and gloomy like an overcast day.

Yep. You can register as a self employed photographer at City Hall. I think you have to have the photogrpaher's eye trait and have photography as lifetime want, but not sure about that.

StupidityKills 7th Jun 2010 12:02 PM

RoseCity, are you playing Twinbrook? I feel like it has a dimmer colour cast, kind of like how S2 Seasons had different colour tints; I like it

Do favourite colours actually make any difference to anything at all? I've never noticed anything, it would be nice if they got a positive moodlet from being dressed in their fave colour or being in a room decorated in it!

LoonehWannabe 7th Jun 2010 2:28 PM

@StupidityKills- The game does not reconize colors, and I believe favorite color is just for show and fun, I suppose.

I am playing Twinbrook - the next Sim day, the blue sky and sunshine were back.

Did a little sleuthing about and there was a claim that in the Prima guide, favorite color helps in making connections with other sims - having the same favorite color (or food or music) makes them like each other more.

Thus ends my need to dress or decorate with their favorite colors except when there are twins/triplets and I want to identify whose bed belongs to who. What a relief, it was annoying to have a Sim with an ugly favorite color.

Why does the "A SimBot!" reaction look so weird? D: It seriously looks like my child sim (who bought the SimBot with her Lifetime Rewards points) is repulsed/revolted by her best friend. And it happens over again every time I start the game up.

Though, that child seems a little screwy... she'll occasionally flip out, screaming and tearing at her hair. No reason. Her Traits are just Good, Neat, and Hydrophobic... there's no water around either, I got rid of the pool when they moved into this house. Unless turned-off sprinklers count?
She also seems to get nervous/worried/woozy sometimes, stumbling a bit and looking around in a "frightened" kind of way, making a little whining noise. Her motives are maxed, so I don't know what's causing that either. (My initial theory was "maybe she's tired or hungry?" so I used the mailbox to set her motives to static, just to test. She's still doing it.) The SimBot does it sometimes, too. o_o;;

Anyone know why my 'Bot and child are so spazzy? xD;;

StupidityKills 7th Jun 2010 7:29 PM

Do they have the Dramatic trait? Sounds like stuff melodramatic sims would do.

Thanks. So if you've got the 'Have 10 girlfriends' lifetime wish, do you need to break up with each partner as you go along? Because I'm trying to keep the relationship up high with all the women.
