Stupid questions.

I'll go first

I cannot figure out the gardening and fertilazation. I'v tried fertilizing with different vegs (apples, lettuce, onion), also tried fertilizing apple trees with apples, lettuse with lettuse, but I'm not seeing any "great" improvement. Does it matter what you use? or is there some special fertilizing plant that's superior to the rest? Also some of the vegs you have in your inventory will have different state, some bad, some good, is there any differene if you use the bad one versus the better ones?

bluegenjutsu 5th Jun 2009 10:21 AM

What you try to fertilize with is vegetables or fish that have perfect qualities but you can use the products that have one quality higher than your crop to improve them up one grade, also. You can also replant a plant after it's harvested in order to make an improved crop. I read (haven't tried this myself yet) that angelfish and vampirefish make the best fertilizers if you want perfect crop.

ani_ 5th Jun 2009 10:25 AM

thanks, never even though about using fish.

bluegenjutsu 5th Jun 2009 10:28 AM

Yeah, you can fertilize the plants with anything but it's best to use other vegetables and fish with high quality. Just don't do like I did and plant too many crops because until there is a hack to make gardening time faster, your sim could end up spending most of their entire time tending their garden.

treeag 5th Jun 2009 11:01 AM

My stupid question. I thought they said the motive bars were removed/hidden?

bluegenjutsu 5th Jun 2009 11:09 AM

Motive bars are in the panel. There are scroll bars so that you can see needs/career/relationship, etc, similar to S2.

kristelparv 5th Jun 2009 11:11 AM

How can I change toddlers hair and clothes?

Yeah, I mean, if they're removed why are they still there now?

bluegenjutsu 5th Jun 2009 11:19 AM

There is a cheat for editing looks for sims by using "edit in cas" but when I tried to use it before it wouldn't work until I installed a game mod cheat by a member of this community. It's posted in downloads. As for the clothes (I haven't tried this myself, yet), you are supposed to be able to select the sim and then click on dresser and choose their items and then be able to add 2 more of each type (everyday, formal, etc) to their wardobe choices without having to go to a store to buy them.

To treeag, I never heard they were gone. So I don't understand what you are talking about.

StupidityKills 5th Jun 2009 11:22 AM

The needs bars are still there, but I think you just don't need to monitor them unless you want to because the moodlets express all the important highs and lows.

bluegenjutsu 5th Jun 2009 11:24 AM

You do need to keep track of their motives because if you forget (happened to me) there will come up a warning on their moodlets to let you know they are starving to death or ready to pass out from exhaustion.

treeag 5th Jun 2009 12:15 PM

I remember a while back there's this news that the motive bars were removed. It was perhaps a couple months ago, I remember some people including me weren't that happy about it back at S2C.

I remember that also, you were suppose to get and a popup saying - need to pee - then you clikc it and off they went. But thank god the meters are there, I like them.

bluegenjutsu: so very true. My sim man was spending way too much time on his garden, so I'v reduced his plants to 1-2 each, + brought the splinkler.

I think the meters are just decorative. Sims will use the bathroom on their own and stop anything they are doing and all other qued actions. If there is no bathroom on the lot, they will not pee.

I've had playable sims pee themselves because they wouldn't break the queue to go on their own (free will on high) - but I haven't seen it happen to an NPC.

I've also had problems with my sims not going home when they're about to pass out from exhaustion, for some reason they go and try to harvest any harvestables and eat them instead of trying to head home and sleep. I've seen several NPC's passed out in community lots/parties...don't know if there's something broken about the sleep meter and being away from home, but it's definitely more than decorative at this point.

StupidityKills 5th Jun 2009 4:15 PM

You shouldn't ever get a moodlet saying they were starving to death as the first indication of hunger, you should always go through a progression of peckish, hungry, extremely hungry (something like that anyway) first. Same with energy/tiredness.
But, then again, idk, maybe it certain traits might hide some of those, I doubt it.
Plus autonomous (free will) responses to needs like going to the toilet will queue jump whatever else you're doing. (in my experience so far.)

kupotheeweirdo 6th Jun 2009 12:27 AM

I've asked this before, but now I can't find my post and none of my posts are appearing on my profile either. So, my speeds barely work at all. High speed is basically like the time progression from The Sims 2. I'm sick of waiting for minutes and minutes for my Sims to sleep, go to work, learn a new skill, etc.
My system has:
- AMD Athlon (tm) 64 processor
3400+
2.21 GHz
And enough hard drive room on my computer to support it all.

So, is there a problem with my system?

LindsFish 6th Jun 2009 12:30 AM

I feel like this is a really dumb question, but where do I buy seeds? I understand that I can plant a tomato as a tomato seed, and so on, but when my girl got a better gardening skill, one of the little messages said I could purchase and/or (forget which) grow rare seeds now... but how? Nothing else besides the few veggies I've planted are plantable... or am I wrong?

Caupi 6th Jun 2009 12:33 AM

kupotheeweirdo, it's an issue a lot of people with decent sytems are having (including myself). Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

You can find seeds lying around on the ground - check places like the park, graveyard, around the outsides of the science center, etc (they're tiny and white and pretty hard to see unless you zoom in). I'm not sure about buying them.

I have a decent machine, and the time speed blows in my game. A few people say its fine on their machine, but I think it's just borked period (or meant to be that way) and some people are just okay with it. I'll have a much faster and nicer machine in a few days, so I suppose I'll find out whether or not it's a machine issue.

The best fertilizer you can use that you can BUY from the store is the lobster. The best fertilizer fish in the game is the vampire fish and angelfish and the best fruit/veggie is the life fruit.

1-7 based on strength, 7 being the best fertilizer.

Garlic 3, Flamefruit 3, Life Fruit 4

Salmon 4, Blk. Goldfish 4, Swordfish 4, Red Herring 5, Tragic Clownfish 5, Siamese Catfish 5, Pirahna 5, Blowfish 5, Shark 6, Lobster 6, Angelfish 7, Vampire fish 7.

The other fruit/fish are under 3.

I mainly use lobster since if I run out of fish and don't have time to fish because of work/motives/time, I use the lobsters as back up.

Edit: Deathfish will KILL your plant!!

Will it even work properly and worth trying the sims 3 out for the hell of it? lol

Not every day, seems to be around once every couple of harvest cycles/few days for my gardener sim, but he's only got lvl 7 in gardening.

Might get better as skill improves and/or you get the green thumb or super green thumb perks, dunno.

Katie-ryn 9th Jun 2009 8:05 PM

I have a stupid question about story progression. Mine doesn't seem to be working very well, but in the opposite way that everyone's complaining about...

No one is moving out or having babies in my game. Everyone who was a child at the beginning of the game still lives with their parents, who will (or have already have) die(d) of old age. Then they live out the rest of their life single and childless. My town is becoming a ghost town.

I've manually moved some families in (and one of them had a baby), but I still have all the original families. There's been like 3 original families who had babies, but that's it.

Why aren't people moving/procreating?

If you want rare-quality seeds, check in on your neighbors. I find my rare plants by digging around in their trash cans, and harvesting their plants where possible.

fillin the fridge

I think I have tried everything but I still havent found a fast way of filling the fridge. Going back and forth from bag to fridge to place 1 apple each is starting to frustrate me. Anyone know if theres a quicker way?

Katie-ryn 9th Jun 2009 11:57 PM

Hold and drag your food on the little triangle in the top left corner of the food icon. It will move the all of the items in that stack. Click it and you can see each individual item.

How does my kid 'become a genius'?

he supposedly should have the genius trait, but i dont see it anywhere.

HelloClarice 10th Jun 2009 1:00 AM

You make him have all As at school, and when he ages to teen, choose the "genius" trait.

kattenijin 10th Jun 2009 1:01 AM

On the subject of game speed, be sure that you are not thinking of speed 4 as being the fastest. Speed 4 is actually "speed 3 untill current task is done". If you queue 3 tasks and then select speed 4, as soon as the first task is done the game speed drops back to speed one.

TBalletToes 10th Jun 2009 1:23 AM

this might sound stupid.

but i got my female sim to fall in love with one of the male maids. Leroy i think?

whats wrong?

That's the same with my game. I was really excited to see what my family would do while I was playing another family and I came back after a week Sim Time and nothing had changed. I have Story Progression turned on so I'm not sure what's wrong.

They have to have a really good relationship. Use more friendship interactions. To get married, first you have to ask to go steady. If you have not used the confess feelings interaction, try using it. But basically, it's all about their relationship level.

It is also alot more complex than sims 2. Once the option for propose..get married or move in shows up DOES NOT always mean its there. The next time the couple interacts you have to build the relationship up again, IE have them do a few friendly interactions to get the move in option or a few romantic interactions to get the propose to option.

It depends on the quality of your plant and your skill level in gardening. The lesser quality plants will need more than 1 re-fertilizing before maturity but the excellent, outstanding and perfect plants will normally only need re-fertilizing a second time during their second life cycle. It's best to dispose of crop after it's given it's produce if it's less than outstanding so that you can plant in it's place one of it's produce and up the quality faster. Your goal in gardening is to get perfect crops.

How do you get a klepto sim to steal things from neighbor's houses?

bluegenjutsu 10th Jun 2009 3:49 AM

From what I read that someone else posted, you go over to a neighbor's house and get invited in and then ask to stay over and let your sim sleep on the couch and then when the other sims in the house go to sleep, you wake up your sim and right click on objects near them to have them steal them.

This does work. I love it, since honestly in Sims 2 the only time I ever went to the OFB neighborhood was to buy clothes or the two sims I had who owned businesses.

My sims haven't married anyone but as far as they go are Romantic Interest. I also have a middle-aged couple with a teen son who had a baby without my control.

My question: Are Unflirty sims really unflirty? I have two Unflirty sims in my game. One rejected her neighbor's (an acquintence) first advance but once she found out they both were Family-Orientated, she accepted his second advance. Another was Good Friends with a Flirty sim. He only had to flirt with her once and she was all over him. She even Woohoo'd with him the next night; plus she had another Romantic Interest without my control! I thought they were going to be stone-hearted but they're as easily gulliable as any other sim.

Mrs. Crumplebottom 10th Jun 2009 5:44 AM

ILoveHugs02
You should add a crib to their house. They will be more likely to reproduce if they have somewhere to put the baby I think. Haven't tested.

Ok, Stupid question...

How in the world can you see the roof on a sim's house. I clicked the "go up a floor" button like 90 times and still no luck. Apparently it's invisible or something.. I've tried taking a roof off and putting it back on. And I've tried just changing the pattern to see if that would help but it doesn't. Is this just a game bug or am I not clicking a button I need to?

Thanks in advance. =D

bluegenjutsu 10th Jun 2009 3:10 PM

You have to click the button (just like in Sims 2) that changes whether the walls are up or down and also includes the roof button that shows the roof. I can see the roofs fine when doing that, whether building or playing the game.

Believe it or not...I don't have that.. I have 3 options, Flat, Cut-a-way walls and complete walls... No 4th option to see a roof. =/

Are you in walls-up view when you go up to the roof level? If you are in cutaway view you won't be able to see the roof. In walls-up mode, you click up until you are at the level of the attic and then click once more to see the roof.

Lol. Yes I've tried this as well. I've tired to see the roof in walls up, cut-a-way and flat. And making sure I've clicked go up a floor each time at least 10 times. I've started going into other houses while my main family is asleep and making people marry their love interests and knocking them up. My town was dying out, so I needed to take action.

Though I found the first magic baby in my game, you know the kind that has only one parent in the family tree. So it happens, it's just not happening very often in my game.

Here's a stupid question can infant sims die?

The reason I ask is in one of my families they had twin girls . One of the infant's mood was always in red. I went to another of my families and played them for awhole and when I came back the infant with the red mood meter was gone. When I checked the family tree she is still there but her pic is in black and white like when someone dies. I'm not sure what happened lol I really wish we still had memories.

@Becca - I've read that child sims can't die (this goes for all the younger ages). It's much more likely that she was taken by the social worker while you were away.

My own dumb question = Has anyone tried to stock a pond on their home lot with fish yet? If so, do they reproduce, improve quality, or anything? Do you have to feed them?

Did you put the serving platter in the Sim's inventory? It needs to be in the inventory in order to finish the opportunity. Every group meal opportunity I've had so far just required a serving platter of the food in question.

How do I change my sims' clothings? I looked around sunset valley but I couldnt find a clothing store.. if it even exists.

mangaroo 14th Jun 2009 9:11 PM

lazzybum, just go to the dresser and "Plan Outfit" -- your Sims now have access to all clothes for their gender/lifestage, but you can only store three outfits per outfit type.

Just a question I asked myself as I'm playing on a french version : does the guitar song learnable starting level 5 have a french name as I suspect it (i.e. "oui Madame, je le veux") ?

If so, this would be one of the things that made me laugh the most during the game.

If not, it would be a shame, as "oui Madame, je le veux" could be an excellent answer to the famous question "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir ?".

treeag 16th Jun 2009 4:53 AM

Can you change the thickness of stubble?

Also, why do we have two stupid question threads?

ani_ 16th Jun 2009 5:35 AM

1. You know how if you have for example a slob sim, then any cleaning interaction will have a no sign over the slob icon becuase cleaning is against their personality. The thing that's been bugging me is why does my easily impressed woman have the no icon if I use the drawer to change her clothing?
She doesn't have it if I click her and use change outfit.

2. One of my sims wanted to see the cooking channel. So I brought them a tv, but there's no cooking channel in it. I later did see the cooking channel in the tv in the gym. But never had it in the tv at their house. Also I'v heared rumours about a channel that teaches you handiness, but have seen nothing.

3. The game tips that come when you are in the loading screen talked about free classes. So far the only classes my sims have taken is normal priced and the discount classes from the paper. Where are the free classes? and is it always the same or does it rotate?

desimonkey442 16th Jun 2009 5:42 AM

I can't get Riverview to install on my game. Every time I click the install button for it on the EA download thing it loads up and then just disappears off the screen. Does anyone else have this problem?

chancey_willis10 16th Jun 2009 10:52 AM

My stupid question is --

Who is Lolita Goth? It's bugging me badly.

I think that shes Gunther's ex-wife. O.O'

Okay, here's a question: Do toddlers still have the ability to escape from their cribs? Honestly, I used to rely on this method of letting them loose when the parents were busy not-dying, and the kid screamed to get free.

EmilyJud 16th Jun 2009 5:09 PM

Toddlers could escape from their cribs before?!!! I never even knew that! lol

Also how do you make cookies? What catagory is it under because I just got the oppurtunity where you have to make cookies. So how do I make cookies?

jarod95 16th Jun 2009 5:18 PM

you need to discover the recipes yourself...
i can't make cookies either...i didn know that was i didn have the ingrediants or i didn't know the recipe!

EmilyJud 16th Jun 2009 5:21 PM

OK does any one know how I can discover it?

mangaroo 16th Jun 2009 5:46 PM

Emily, there's a recipe for cookies at the bookstore. Or you can watch the cooking channel on TV and hope to learn it that way.

Omgzyulia 16th Jun 2009 6:41 PM

Does anyone know if it's possible while playing a game to stop playing the first family you made and make another family and play them in the same neighborhood? (If that made sense)

Can you play two created families in the same neighborhood?

Stacyy 16th Jun 2009 7:18 PM

anyone know why all my hair keeps disappearing off my sims heads?? its driving me crazy!

mangaroo 16th Jun 2009 7:23 PM

Stacyy, you already have a post with that question. Please don't multi-post.

Omgzyulia, you can switch families using the "Edit Town" option (available under the ...). This includes adding multiple CAS-created families to the neighborhood and then switching between them.

alyria80 16th Jun 2009 7:38 PM

Yes, but drastic changes will happen to the family you aren't playing, they might quit their jobs, they might move out of town never to be heard from again.

I think it's just a glitch..sometimes the npcs bodies dissapear in my games, it's so wierd to see a head floating about and a pair of feet lol! Luckily it hasni happened to a sim I'm playing with. Have u tried changing appearance in the mirror? I dunno what else to suggest.

inabisim 17th Jun 2009 11:35 AM

Does anyone know if the gems and stuff that you find mature in value over time?

Tzigone 17th Jun 2009 1:08 PM

Do maids and babysitters and paper delivery children age?

bs624_SC 17th Jun 2009 5:13 PM

Age

When do sims age, I don;t think it happens at 6 pm like it did in sim2. Also is it different for the different ages?
