Rate Your Most Recently Watched Movie
A simple sort of recommendation/heads-up thread on up and coming titles (or old titles or whatever) so people may have a better idea of what might be good to check out.
Format: [Movie name] - [In Cinemas/New DVD/Old] - [Genre] [Rating between 0 and 10] -[Personal comment in less than 15 words. Try not to spoil.] I'm going first: Crazy, Stupid, Love - In Cinemas - Romance/Comedy/Drama/Family 8.5/10 -RomComs don't get ANY better than this, even for non-fans. Go see it, people. |
Haunting in Connecticut-Old-ish (Watched it on Netflix) -Horror/Thriller
-8/10 -Watched it twice. Wasn't expecting much. Pleasantly surprised. I'm dying to see Crazy,Stupid,Love. Seriously. Four of my favorite actors/actresses in one movie. |
I'm having a hard time remembering what the last movie I watched was. I guess I'll rate the last movie I remember watching that I wasn't re-watching.
Fright Night - Old - Horror -9/10 -My rating of this movie is highly subjective. It contained a lot of elements that I very much enjoy, but that others may not feel as strongly about and, beyond those elements, it's pretty much just a cheesy 80's vampire flick. Nothing wrong with cheesy 80's movies, but don't go in expecting a work of art. It's very light compared to modern horror, with a little nudity and a little blood, but really not much gore factor. The main "horror" element is that it contains a supernatural creature, a vampire. |
Gypsy -- the '62 version, not the '93 one. (In an amusing coincidence, my mother and myself were born in respectively '62 and '93) - Old - Musical
4/10 -Severe pacing issues and actors who can't sing, but are otherwise decent, and the best montage evar in the form of Natalie Wood singing "Let Me Entertain You" several times while coyly disrobing. Also the song lyric "Hold your hats and hallelujah, mama's gonna show it to ya." |
Super 8 - New - SciFi? (there's no sci)
4/10 Actually, I'm being generous with the 4 - it was pretty bad. Includes all the clichés - dead mother, evil government operatives, kids smarter than adults, etc, etc which would be fine if the script wasn't so godawful. Don't want to say more in case someone who wants to see it, hasn't seen it yet. Sorry for more than 15 words. |

Then again, I do tend to focus a lot on "what could've been" in a movie. I figure if a it managed to give me those ideas and thus made me consider the implications had things taken place the way I wanted them, it can't be that bad. |
Bridesmaids
8/10 It was entertaining at most parts and a little dry at some. Overall a pretty funny movie with some surprisingly good performances. |

It may have been a poorly placed "really" -- it was meant as "that is surprising to me; tell me more", a usage similar to an exchange along the lines of: "Paul made out with a goat last night, but that's not the worst part! I heard he managed to involve egg rolls somehow!" "Did he really?!" If anything, I was hoping to start a discussion, not to critique your critique. However, I apologise for any perceived enmity. |

Puss in Boots - In Cinemas - Family/ Comedy
6 -I'm a cat person, I love how puss in boots look like. but the overall story is a boo! you can sleep in the cinema, but the comedy is good. you can also learn a lesson from it. I just love watching cats. |
Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness.
It's... Interesting? No, you have to watch it before you can understand. |
Night of the Living Dead - Old - Horror
8 Good pacing. Good character interaction. Not enough character development, but the zombie explanations are entertaining. |
Super - (2010) - Action/Comedy/Drama 8/10
I cared a lot about the protagonist. The concept of a "normal guy" superhero is portrayed realistically. Still more than 15 words. hurg. |
Yes or No - Old DVD, from like 04 or something - Romance
10/10 I've seen this movie about 50 times. It's the romance movie my girlfriend and I really connect ourselves with because it's about an Asian lesbian couple and the characters really fit who we are. A girl who dresses, acts and lives her life as a boy who loves to cook and garden (me) who moves into a new dorm with a girly girl that likes fish (her). We're obsessed with Asian/Asian culture and we're a lesbian couple, so we both love it. There is also NO PORN scenes, or anything CLOSE to porn scenes though. But it's fine, because it's very fluffy and romantic without overdoing it. |
The Strangers (Old, I guess)
5/10 I had the movie spoiled for me so I already knew what was going to happen. Because of that I didn't find it scary at all. |
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll - DVD - 2010
7/10 A biopic about Ian Dury and, for a biopic, it was pretty good. Surreal at times like real life. They didn't try to sugarcoat anything. |
Breaking Dawn
1/10 Honestly, the only part worth watching was the "werewolf" fight scene. I liked the effects. |
Deathproof
8/10 it was beast. not a great story but it had style and never took itself seriously so high marks from me haha |
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.
5/10 I thought it would be super funny as in evil-dead kind of funny. But it was only kind of mildly amusing. |
I.O.U.S.A. - 2008 - Documentary
8/10 A non-partisan look at the issues involved in the U.S.'s chronic fiscal irresponsibility. It specifically focuses on the tax vs. spending imbalance. Does a good job at presenting the problems in an accessible, but not condescending manner, though it's a little light on solutions. |
The Real Dirt on Farmer John - DVD - Documentary (2006)
I enjoyed this autobiographical film about one man's life journey beginning with his childhood on a farm in northern Illinois in the 1950s, and includes his having to deal with being 'different' amongst narrow-minded neighbors. 9/10 |
Inception (2010)- Sci-Fi/Action/Heist
9/10 The characters could certainly use more background story and development... |

Most definitely a must if you're a big animation fan. The only real problems seem to that Nina seems to be trying to draw parallels between her life and Sita's which were either severely over-emphasized, or never there in the first place. There's also this musical/animated scene about an hour in (you'll know when you come to it), which I personally love, and got that it was supposed to represent what Nina was feeling/going through at the time (and maybe it was meant to tie into what was about to happen to Sita as well), but I could easily see how others could consider it more of a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, it may just be a matter of taste. Sorry for the long "review," ![]() |

To bring things full circle, I have now watched and will rate the new Fright Night.
Fright Night - New - Horror 8/10 Not nearly as slow and seductive as the first Fright Night. It is shallower in its approach, but still very entertaining. It recreates a few classic scenes from the original, but tries to update it. There are a few references to more recent pop culture, but I don't think they were heavy-handed. Colin Farrell was excellent as Jerry, in some ways even better than the original. David Tennant was very entertaining as Peter Vincent. It's got good music. Characterization could have been deeper, but I don't have any particular complaints beside that. Faster pacing is normally a dark mark in my book, but it worked for this film. And, yes, I'm way over the word count. :P |
Sucker Punch
4/10 Even with my low expectations I still didn't find it very entertaining. Cool visuals though. |
Young@Heart - 2006 - Documentary
9/10 It's about a chorus of elders from Northampton, Mass who sing rock & roll type music. Some highlights were I Wanna Be Sedated, Schizophrenia and Fix You. At first I was like what the hell is this, but later I cried a little bit. It was more about facing the end of our lives. The only thing I didn't like was the narrator, but he faded away towards the end. |
The Fountain
I've seen it before... 6/10 It's a beautiful looking movie most of the time. It made me laugh sometimes at how pretentious it is. Like no one has ever thought about life and death before. Like they were looking at it from an angle that has never been perceived. Also like only the most intelligent would understand. It really isn't that deep. |
The Muppets
9/10 Friggin' hilarious. I was so happy to see the franchise revived and I thought they did a fantastic job. Plus, the cameos and music were great (Brett McKenzie wrote some of the music for cripes sake!). |
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - New
8/10 Having not seen the first one, I was pretty lost in the film's plot - luckily I had my girlfriend to fill me in on stuff ![]() |
Life 2.0 - 2010 - Documentary
7/10 I finally saw this. I think I thought it was going to be funny, but it was a little bit sad and thought provoking, and as a Sims player I shouldn't have felt superior. I would have given it an 8, but I gave it a 7 from having to look at the horrible Second Life graphics for over an hour. |
Spider - 7/10
Quite a dark and depressing film, one of Cronenburg's most impressive. Had Lynch-y elements, too, which I enjoyed. |
Chronicle - 3/10
Dark, depressing, and didn't bother explaining why one of the kids mums was as sick as she was, or what that thing they found was. |
I watched this Movie called Sunshine (2007) . And even though IMDB gave it a good score....and the review were GOOD . The movie was Boooo-Ring ! All the 'beautiful scene' end up getting me Blind lol and there was just too much that didn't make sense (like the mother computer detecting the astronautes whenver they were , but didn't make a squeak when Crazy dude start killing everyone ) . Muh...it was a fun idea...but I just wish they explained the ending a bit more....
Add to that the beautiful Michelle Yeoh...her role was almost inexistant lol Not fair ![]() IMDB score for this Movie was 7.3/10 . Mine would be 5/10 (and only cose Yeoh was in there ![]() |
Been watching plenty of movies recently, and here are my reviews on them.
The Hunger Games - 8/10 This is probably the first time I'd enjoy an adaptational media rather than the originals- but, really, I think the emotional impact of the characters are stronger in the movies than in the books (which is quite strange). I have an aversion in first-person POVs in general; but it seemed that, like so many other fictions, Katniss's personality is affected by the author's personal views that her characterization becomes inconsistent. The Lorax - 6/10 Overall the movie isn't that bad, but most of the expanded stuffs decays the message from the original books- including it's induced romance plot tumor and other unfortunate implications that comes with it. Graphics are fine, but a bit too bright and cheery for my tastes. John Carter - 4/10 Is it just me, or is the plot of this movie a rip-off from Avatar? Anyway, the plot lacks originality, nor any spectacular visual effects (there are some, but not many). Main character is boring- a very typical, invincible hero of the sort who rescues a damsel in distress, and later marries her and yadda yadda. Their half-hearted attempt to subvert this is a major epic fail. Hugo - 7.5/10 What I like most from this movie is the excessive use of clockwork and steampunk (enhanced with 3D). However, I was quite disappointed with the plot, mainly because it wasn't a fantasy/thriller/action movie like I was hoping, but instead appeals towards a drama/adventure genre. It's a waste of the wonderful clock punk, to use it for a drama setting, IMO. Still, at least the storyline is as cliche as most dramas, so I won't complain too much about it. Wrath of the Titans- 6/10 While this isn't an outright bad movie, I am quite displeased with how the Greek Myth is messed up here. I know I'm biased in that essence, but I especially don't like it when the roles of the mythological characters are screwed around. I especially dislike the portrayal of the deities in this movie. Plot is too linear, that, in addition to the messed up roles of the deities and mortals, the Greek Myth setting appears to be irrelevant. The Devil Inside - 0/10 (I'd give a negative score, if it was possible) Alright. This movie have no plot, no character development, poor camera skills, little to no interaction, no special effects, no eye candy. Really, there's nothing in this movie that I can say a good thing about. |
The Hunger Games = 9.5/10
Lost the half mark because I think it would be a little hard to understand without reading the book first. Other than that it was great. |
Factory Girl - Drama - 2006
7/10 Edie Sedgwick biopic that I finally got around to seeing. It got bad reviews, but I thought it was okay. I thought Sienna Miller did a great job portraying Edie, and Guy Pearce was fantastic as Andy Warhol. Biopics seem to be very difficult to pull off, but film makers keep trying. |
The Cabin in the Woods - Horror/Slasher - 2012
6/10 I couldn't decide what to rate this - 6 or 7. I won't go into any details or summary since it just came out, and I'm still processing it somewhat because I saw it last night. I think the film has a lot of good parts and interesting ideas, but the parts somehow add up to a less good film overall. |
God Bless America-a rather disturbing dark comedy. I gave it a 7/10.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1912398/ |
40 Days and 40 Nights - comedy/romance/drama 2002
7/10 its a good film i have seen it many times, its very funny and good acting too. The Rules of Attraction - comedy/romance/drama 2002 3/10 the film did not make sense and it did not have a good ending but it had some goos camera angle. |
Battleship - In Cinemas - Sci-Fi
8/10 I liked the effects and all. I just thought the story was a bit cliché hence the score. Nothing new but exciting overall. |
Avengers, 10/10. F*ckin' awesome movie. I'm not usually a fan of action movies and superheroes and whatnot, but this one was awesome sauce. I loved it to the bits *cough*alsorobertdowneyjrrobertdowneyjr*cough*.
|
Harry Potter 7 pt. 2
9.5/10 The visuals were amazing, they stuck as close to the book as a movie can, and the actors were amazing (as always). I took off the half mark because I think they could've expanded on the ending/epiloque more, and because I feel that they could have done a better job with either aging the characters at the end, or at least they could have changed actors. |

Pig Hunt
2/10 This movie was stupid and only showed a pig twice throughout the whole movie. ![]() |
The Raven
1 out of 10 Nevermores Couldn't be saved by John Cussack. He knew it, so he simply said 'F it' and yelled all his lines. |
The Lucky One 8/10
It was cute! :p |
The Avengers
7.5/10 Alright, people are going to kill me for not giving this movie a near-perfect score; but really, the Hollywood needs to put more effort in developing the storyline and scripts, rather than just counting on the shiny special effects, good-looking characters, explosions and destruction, and corny jokes to be their selling points |
Avengers (2012)
9/10 It was very funny, very good, but there was something I didn't like. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but once you go watch it, you'll soon find out. It's gonna remind you of a movie back in 2011. |
The Woman.
4/10 It was okay, nothing special. It had terrible background music. |
The Avengers 9/10
Cool movie. Loved the part where Hulk screams and Iron Man wakes up. |
Dark Shadows - 2012
4/10 It starts out and it's slightly comical, mixed with violent moments. But as it goes along the comical goes away and it's just ridiculous. Johnny Depp is somewhat amusing as Barnabas Collins ('Fear not, drunkard.) ; Michelle Pfeiffer is competent, Eva Green is terrible. Of course H Bonham Carter is in it and is also terrible in a pointless role. I give it a 4 because I only had mild urges to get up and leave. Infamous - Drama - 2006 8/10 This film covers the same material as Capote. I didn't like Capote; I thought this was a lot better. Toby Jones is fantastic as TC; I guess that means he should've won the Oscar that year. Sandra Bullock is really good as Harper Lee. Daniel Craig plays Perry Whatever His Last Name Was, one of the murderers. Also a great performance. |
Apollo 18
5.5 or 6 (being a bit generous) /10 I'll admit that they did do good when it came to setting up the atmosphere and suspense, and did at least a decent job of making you care about the characters, and they seemed to put a good amount of effort into making it seem as authentic as possible. Truth be told, there was really only one major problem with the movie. Unfortunately, it was such a huge, glaring problem that it sunk the entire ship. What was it? It had the single. Worst. Alien monster concept. EVER. What could have been so bad about it? It was so bad you wanted it to be funny, but it was too awkward to really laugh at. |
Prometheus - 2012 - SciFi
6/10 It was okay. Michael Fassbender was good as the android, David. (The spaceship is strangely spacious with plenty of gravity, even though you can't see how they're making it.And that's just the start of the inexplicable happenings.) |
Vertigo - Alfred Hitchcock - Suspense...of sorts?
I'd give it an 8/10. Granted, I slept through portions of it, but the parts I saw weren't as Afredy Hitchcokian as I would have liked. Still, overall, it was an interesting film and I enjoyed the several and various vertigo-inspired camera shots throughout the film. |
Shallow Hal - DVD- Romantic comedy
9/10 Guys probably won't like it, more of a chick flick ![]() |

Lion King 2 Simba's Pride.
8/10 Reason being is that after coming to the disturbing realization that if following the rules of a lion pride, Simba and Nala are actually brother and sister ![]() |
Prometheus - 2012 - SciFi
8.5/10 I really liked it, but it just felt like the start of the story and left too many unanswered questions. Think I would have preferred to wait for a sequel and watched them together. It only had a few stupid illogical bits in it. I found it a little strange that they were sent on a trillion dollar space mission but had to wear bandages instead of underwear! |
Toy Story 3 10/10
I loved it! It's one of those films I stick on for the kids but never properly watch. I actually got to watch it last night and it was fun and quirky with all the charm I expect from Pixar ![]() |

I don't think I'll ever watch that stupid movie. Sorry. I've watched Hollywood just keep messing up Comic Books to make into movies. Spider-man sucked, Superman sucked, Thor sucked, Ironman was decent. But every movie that was made from a comic book, they always mess it up. And for some reason filmmakers in the USA, can't remake a movie to save their life. For instance the Japanese horror films they try to remake, suck. ANYWAY, excuse the rant. Hanna 9/10 People may disagree with me. But damn, that movie was awesome. That girl was a kick ass assassin. I loved when she supposedly killed Marissa but it was her double. Just the look on her face, was priceless. But there is a lot of action in the film. I am telling you, Hanna was kick ass. I've seen it at least...20 times now. |

War of the Words 2: The Second Wave ( SyFy )
The aliens come back in their mothership, which houses a squadron of spore fighters. George ( protagonist ) and Pete ( Pete is played by Kid from Kid 'n Play ), who passes out at the sight of blood, escape from the mothership and play around an empty town doing stuff. The two guys run into a sick man and his sick-ish daughter who seems on her way to becoming a zombie. The sick man is sick with a sickness that the aliens can't deal with, and the daughter survived all their experiments. This is what we learn from them: The aliens have captured many people and are homogenizing their blood, which somehow makes it fit to consume by destroying the microorganisms inside, so that they can drink it. So George sticks a needle in the sick man and injects sick blood into himself. Then George and Pete go find a damaged alien tripod and get inside it. There is some floating pod in there that all alien vessels have and they are all attached somehow. So Pete injects it with sicky blood, which transmits to all alien vessels, and all the aliens die. Three months later, Pete and George and son are having a bbq and alien talking is heard on the radio, suggesting that War of the Worlds 3 be made. 2/5 sick SyFy blood cells |
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
10/10 Hell yes, just an amazing movie. Love the music. And Tim Curry, just made the best freaking Transvestite. And Susan Sarandon did such an amazing job. LOVE LOVE IT! |
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Peter Weir 1975 9/10 A magnificent film, as simple as can be, as complicated as can be, as impenetrable as the Rock itself. I haven't watched it for a long time but it hasn't aged a bit; obviously timeless as well. IMDb link |
Pan's Labryinth 9.5/10
|
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
7.5/10 I thought this movie would be horrible, but it's not! The axe swinging scenes are great, however, things happen out of nowhere and key elements to the plot seem to just pop up randomly. |
The Ring
7.5/10 I had never been brave enough to watch it! But didn't actually find it that scary, and enjoyed the storyline! |
Brave - 9/10
Definitely not what I was expecting, based on the trailers, but still really really good! The art is absolutely amazing, Pixar has outdone themselves creating magnificent visuals. Funny and charming. |
Brave 9.5/10
I gave it a nine and a half out of ten because I loved the storyline, parts of it made me laugh, parts of it made me cry, the acting was great and Merida didn't have to end up with a prince! ![]() |
Pariah - 2011 - Drama
10/10 It's about a gay African American teenager in Brooklyn with an unpleasant, religious, homophobic mother. Great performances, great script. The cinematography is nice - a lot of golden light. |

I saw Brave last night...
Well, either it didn't have a good plot or I didn't understand the depth of it, in my opinion. It was just that Merida was seeming to be pretty... what's the word... I don't know, maybe a little demanding and annoying in the beginning, and it seemed like through the duration of the story, she didn't change nearly as much as she should've. She was still a little cowardly, except maybe slightly less in the end. (which totally contradicts with the name of the story...) After seeing the good reviews everywhere, I really expected more. She just got what she wanted in the end. That's all. So I think I will give it a 6/10. |
Moonrise Kingdom - 2012 - Dramedy?
I didn't like it, but if you like Wes Anderson films, you might. I guess it's getting good reviews. I'm not going to rate it because I fell asleep about half way through and every now and then I'd have moments of consciousness, and then go back to sleep. I wished I could leave almost from the start - it had a forced quality. I liked Rushmore and that was the last Wes Anderson film I liked. The cinematography was good - super 8? - it definitely had a color feel like snapshots of that era. |
Men In Black 3 - 8/10
Yes, I enjoyed this movie more than I have enjoyed watching the Avengers. Problem? (And when I think about it, giving Avengers a 7.5 is too lenient. Should've given it 6.5 at most ![]()

Well, that's YMMV. I don't want to start a debate about comic-book based movie adaptation, but just because you say it's kick ass, doesn't mean it applies for others (who may think those movies you mentioned are worthless crap. I haven't watched any of them, so I say no comment). |
Love My Life
10/10 I am sucker for lovey dovey movies. I am more of a sucker if it is based on a Yuri (GirlxGirl Anime/Manga). And that is what Love My Life is. It is such a cute movie. I loved every moment of it. Eri is in love with Ichiko, and vice versa. And Eri would do anything for Ichiko, and vice versa. Some cute scenes, and of course there are some sad scenes. Why did I rate this a 10? Because finally I can say there is a decent love movie between two girls. I know there are more out there. But I think this is my number 1 choice ^.^ |
The most recent movie I saw was The Last Airbender...
I though this movie did not do justice to the tv series at all. And being a huge Avatar fan, I was horribly disappointed. |
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Should have been the fun, asskicking massacre we wanted. Instead tried to be real and failed, but succeeded in killing my wallet and time. |

I love that movie! Chronicle 8/10 I really liked this movie, but some of it was just a bit too 'seen it before' for me. |
I saw Brave and Moonrise Kingdom last week.
Brave was, to me, just OK. It's been a long, LONG time since I've seen a movie in 3D (I don't often see movies in theaters, preferring to wait for the DVD), so that was interesting to me. But the movie itself was, to me, nothing special. It was certainly (a lot) less than I've come to expect from Pixar. (Up is one of my favorite movies, period.) I just couldn't connect with the heroine; she annoyed me more than anything. However, I did like her mother in both, um, incarnations. ![]() ![]() I loved Moonrise Kingdom, though. But that's not surprising because, if it's a Wes Anderson movie, I'm pretty much guaranteed to at least like it, if not love it. But in this case, I was very impressed with the kid actors, mostly because they didn't come across as Standard Hollywood Kid Actors (TM) and felt more like real people, for all that the characters they played were VERY dysfunctional. I was also impressed with the very low-key Bruce Willis; I've always liked him. And a similarly low-key Bill Murray, too. I think I actually like him better when he's being more serious than comedic. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I recently saw Chronicle. I'm giving it a 5/10, and that's being generous. I was somewhat excited by the trailer, but the movie really failed to deliver. There was no plot other than "Teens get super powers; shit happens", and that really disappointed me. The special effects were okay, but the only character that I could relate to, the main character, Andrew, turns into the antagonist.
|
The Woodmans - 2010 - Documentary
10/10 It's about a photographer I like a lot - Francesca Woodman - and her family. I thought it was excellent - about the life of the artist and the mysteries of life and death. |
The new spiderman...
9.5/10 I loved this because it had a plot I could keep up with while still being really intriguing. Something my mom pointed out about it that I completely agree with is that in the movie, none of the good guys or the bad guys were completely and totally "good" or "bad". They all did some bad stuff and some good stuff. It was realistic in that sense and I liked that. I didn't even notice or mind the length of the movie (2.5 hours) because I was very into it the whole way through. Good job Hollywood! ![]() (Also, Andrew Garfield is sooo hot! :lovestruc ) It lost 0.5 because... I don't know, it's got to be a movie that really went off the scale and then above and beyond, and then above that for me to give it a 10... I'm a critic in that sense. |
Brave 9/10. I love how it's about mother/daughter relationship and I can totally relate to Merida, we're similar in a lot of ways and I just can't believe how Elinor is just like my mom. It's like they made the movie just for me. It really hits home. The only animated movie that has ever had. Scratch that, it's the only movie that has ever had.
The Amazing Spiderman 8/10. Andrew Garfield isn't that attractive to me but overall it's pretty good. Not the best though. |
Avengers... 10/10
Just amazing, The only bad part was my mom drooling all over Thor the whole time. Men In Black 3... 8/10 Could've had a better intro but all of that story stuff and the end. OH GOD T_ T It is good, And I do recommend seeing it, Just not at a drive-thru that you're going to be at until 2 in the morning! |
The Amazing Spiderman - 7/10
Much better than the original trilogy, IMO. At least Peter isn't a dorky loser like the the previous Spiderman; he's still a nerdy genius but his also confident and sarcastic personality makes him seem less of a failure. And the leading lady (Gwen Stacey) isn't some sort of Damsel in distress whose only impact to the plot is to be kidnapped by the bad guy and get saved by the hero. |
Mean Girls 2.
0/10, and I'm not even kidding. If you are a big Mean Girls fan like me, don't ever watch this movie. Actually, do, so you realize how great the first one is. This one is so corny and children-aimed that it's almost grotesque. The worst words said were "testosterone" and "virgin". It's pure blasphemy, I'm not surprised it was one of the biggest flops of 2011. Sucker Punch. 9/10 Ok this is one of my favorite movies of all times, even though it's almost unknown to everyone. It came out in April 2011 and it's pure, concentrate, glossy eye candy. The cast is great, the soundtrack is amazing, the visual effects are Oscar-worthy. It wasn't very successful because the storyline (even though it's nice!) wasn't as good as the technical side of the movie, but I adored it. I saw it in the theater and bought the DVD the day it came out. If you're looking for an action movie with girls fighting, in a '50s mental house/high-end brothel atmosphere, and you like samurais, dragons, robots and WWII nazi wastelands, this movie is for you. |
^ I liked Sucker Punch too - I loved the production design. I'm not sure but I think a lot of people said they hated it without ever having seen it. I liked it more than Moonrise Kingdom.

Dirty Girl.
9/10. I'm really surprised how much I liked this movie. I thought it would be a comedy, a sort of stereotypical high school set up, but it was actually really touching; I almost cried! And it's amazing how a bag of flour can be so cute. ![]() |
I saw "Sleeper" on Netflix. A '70s Woody Allen film.
WTF / 10. |

I know its a double post i am sorry
These are the films i have seen this week. A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song - 5/10 It was a good film with a good storylike,it was a typical disney kind of films.there was good music and singers in it,Lucy Hale has a really good singer voice and i am very happy she got to sing in this movie. Labor Pains - 5/10 the film was funny in parts.i think they could of done some thing diffrent to make it better, the acting was ok but would of chose i diffrent female lead. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - 2/10 the film went on for a very long time and it did not really hold my attention,i think they could of cut some stuff out, this film is not as good as the first couple of Harry Potter films,i enjoyed the special effects they where my favourite part.i love the Harry Potter films but each films got more boring then the next. Harlem Hostel - 1/10 was rubbish i had to force myself to watch it,it got boring in the first 10 mins. Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer - 5/10 i love the Fantastic 4 movies the first one was my favourite, this one was good and it held up to the first movie but was not as great, and it had less funny bits in it. The Love Guru - 3/10 was good and funny but would not watch it again, they could of made somethings to make it better. Thunderbirds(2004) - 4/10 this film was not as good as the old ones but it does still stand on its own.it was good but i would not watch it again because it does get abit boring. The Tourist - 4/10 i only watched this film because it had Angelina jolie,it was not her best film or her best actings,it had a very nice plot too it and some great racing scenes in it. Geek Charming - 5/10 typical disney movie but i found myself enjoying it,a good storyline and the ending was better then i thought it would be and it was sweet. Unspoken - 6/10 this is a short film only around 15mins long but i wish it was a long film that would be shown in cinema's.i enjoyed watching it and i did not want it to end, they handled everything great and a great plot too and the acting was better then i thought it would have been i would watch it forever. Scary Movie 4 - 4/10 i found myself laughting from the start, these kind of films i cant watch again because they wont be as funny.but i do hope they keep making those movies. Devil - 4/10 this was a good movie i have never watched a horror film that revoles around a elevator.i like how the day keep going back and they try to figure out who the killer was,i guessed who the killer was from the start but i liked the way the people where killed and the special effects make up was very good and not corny at all. The Da Vinci Code - 1/10 if i could i would rate it zero,it was rubbish and boring and went on for too long, the storyline was rubbish and the acting was bad.i would not recommend this movie to anyone. |
London Boulevard - 2010 - Drama
7/10 The story is cliché - man gets out of a prison and tries to go straight. It's a good B movie with a stellar cast - Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley, David Thewlis, Ray Winstone. |
"The Da Vinci Code" (Not only is this the last movie I've really watched, but, I feel the need to give a more in depth review than that above me - I know it's supposed to be kept short, but, if we're going to review, people should get some kind of substantial idea and I, unfortunately, have never been good at keeping it short).
8/10 - I've just purchased the book (as I was just able to get my hands on a fairly decent copy), so, I don't know how much I would have liked the movie had I read the book (which I'm planning to do just as soon as I make my way through the "Left Behind" series), but, as for the movie: - It's got Tom Hanks. I'm being completely biased, and the movie probably got 5 points from me merely on his role, because, I love Tom Hanks. He's always been a fabulous actor, and, no matter what role you stick him in, he does great. - Great production. Doesn't surprise me, as Brian Grazer and Ron Howard were involved, but, I especially liked the production aspect of it all. Clean-cut presentation. - It got a bit confusing at times. I pride myself in being able to keep up with the up keep in most situations (that could just be the Gemini in me), so, I don't appreciate being out of the loop, even for a few seconds, which I was a few times throughout the movie. Though, I'm sure it wouldn't have happened had I read the book, but, this is based solely on the movie. - Great story line. Yes, it was long, and yes, it was daunting at times, but, when I did understand it, I was able to follow it, and, it kept me intrigued the entire time. This following statement is not at all being said to insult the above reviewer, but, it takes thought to watch. We all have some movies we like to just plug in just to have a good time or watch mindlessly to blow some time off, but, this isn't one of them. - Strategic Line Placement. Any good writer/director/whoever does it knows just when to have the Comedic Relief come in and I thought they did a fantastic job with this movie. It kept the moments light without making them hilarious - which would have not only been grotesquely out of place, but, distracted from the whole purpose of the film. - It made you think. I think that was one of my favorite parts; I'm really into religious studies, so, I, of course, had to buy "Breaking the Da Vinci Code" with the aforementioned book, because I imagine if the movie had me thinking "Well, what if Mary was married to Jesus? What if we got that wrong?", the book would be so much more intriguing. I had to get both view points of everything. |
The Dark Knight Rises - 8/10
Okay, while Nolan's directing is excellent as always, I do not appreciate having Catwoman stealing most of the action spotlight when this is supposed to be a Batman movie. Wayne himself spends too much time of the movie angsting, though he did get over it. Love the fact that a lot of the cast from Inception here... Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy... Too bad there was no Ellen Page |
I *just* watched Catfish.
I give it a 7.5/10. It's certainly an intriguing look at online dating/relationships - and even if it might be a fake documentary, it was still pretty darn good. |
Here are the films i have watched this week so far (i am not writting much because i dont want to give away the storyline to people who have not seen it)
Teeth - 5/10 This film is about a girl who has teeth in her lady parts and it keeps her safe from guys who are trying to take advantage of her. This film was good and i thought bits of it where very funny and the whole plot of the story really goes well with the story and i think it would speak to some people but without the teeth ofcourse. The Watermen - 3/10 This film is about a group of watermen who find a group of people and torturn and kill them really.I got told this film was good and intrested so i watched it and not much really happends,i was expecting something great to happen and it never did so i was kind of disapointed.i usally laugh and horror/gore films and this one did not make me laugh or freak out at all.bad storyline too. Deadgirl - 2/10 Two high school boys discover an imprisoned woman in an abandoned mental asylum who cannot die. This film sounded great but it was very disapointing and not much intrested happend and the acting was not up to par either. Stick It - 7/10 After a run-in with the law,a girl is forced to return to the world from which she fled some years ago. Enrolled in an elite gymnastics program, the girl rebellious attitude gives way to something that just might be called team spirit. This film is one of the best films i have seen in some time,it is funny and shows true spirt.a great storyline and acting too,i would watch this film again. The gymnastics where great and the ending just made me very happy. Rumor Has It - 5/10 a woman who learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film "The Graduate" and that she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event. This film is avange but very funny,i dont really have much to say about this film but i would watch it again. Raising Helen - 6/10 After her sister and brother-in-law die in a car accident, a young woman becomes the guardian of their three children. Its and funny and a heart touching tale and it made me cry. Unstoppable - 4/10 With an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train barreling toward a city, a veteran engineer and a young conductor race against the clock to prevent a catastrophe. This film did bore me abit but i liked the ending. The Lorax - 6/10 A 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. This is about a young boy who go in search of a tree to win the heart of the girl he wants, along the way he learns why all the tree's are gone and he get to meet the cute and love animals.some good musical numbers in it and the ending is lovely and throughout the film is funnny and made me laugh. Ella Enchanted - 5/10 Ella is under a spell to be constantly obedient, a fact she must hide from her new step-family in order to protect the prince of the land, her friend for whom she's falling.a great funny film, children and adults will enjoy alike and some great musical numbers in it too. Snow White and the Huntsman - 5/10 In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.I love the special effects,i had to watch it over 2 days because it went on for over 2 hours.i hope they make a number 2 because they left it kind of on a clifthanger. Fly Away Home - 6/10 A father and daughter decide to attempt to lead a flock of orphaned Canada Geese south by air.i love this film it reminds me so much of my childhood and i have watched it so many times i would recomand this film to people,it is funny and heart touching. LOL - 2/10 As a new year at school begins, Lola's heart is broken by her boyfriend, though soon she's surprised by her best friend, promising musician Kyle, who reveals his feelings for her.it was not that good at all the storyline was ok but the way they went about it was rubbish,my favourite part was when they had clips of them falling in love to music that is the only good part in the film. |
The Dark Knight Rises - 2012 - Super Hero
9/10 I liked this a lot. Usually I hate the blue filter, but despite that, this film has a great look. And great direction. Also this film has a lot of Christian Bale out of the bat suit, so if you enjoy looking at Christian Bale, you're in luck. See it on the big screen if you can. |
Funny Face (1957) - Musical/Romance
6/10 There's no doubt that Audrey looked stunning and Fred Astaire's dancing was top notch, as always. But there was no chemistry between them whatsoever and no reason why I thought they might like each other. Scenery is fantastic, though, and a pretty decent spoof of the fashion industry for its time. |
