The Random Legacy Challenge (2nd Thread)

Welcome to our new thread!

This was formerly known as "The Random Legacy Challenge - Late Night Spin Off". That name wasn't accurate since we've moved well beyond Late Night, and this challenge is open to all expansion pack combinations, and lack thereof. Base-game simmers are welcome too!

HERE'S WHAT'S UP: 10 generations, with each generation living by randomized parameters, also known as "the roll".

HERE'S THE RULES & ROLLS: http://randomlegacychallenge.blogspot.com/

You can use whatever you want to roll, including the App listed on our rules blog there. I just use Random.Org (http://www.random.org/integers/) to roll each category individually.

HERE'S WHAT WE DO ON THIS THREAD: most of us blog about our legacies, and post links to updates here (it's not required for you to blog, but we'd love it if you share, if you do blog!). We also just chat here. And ask questions about the challenge here. And discuss potential changes to the challenge here. And... we're a friendly bunch.

Also, if you're interested, here's a list of current blogs: http://rluploads.blogspot.com/p/random-legacies.html

...You get the idea. If you don't, ask.

We're laid back. There aren't points. There's no competition. We've had players who really didn't like a certain roll (for example, someone who does have Late Night, but refuses to play celebrities) and exempted themselves from it. That's fine. We want you to HAVE FUN. Try not to exempt yourself from stuff you merely find challenging; just exempt yourself from stuff if you'd, like, quit the game over if someone forced you to go through with it.

Here's a link to our old board, which hit 500 pages: http://www.modthesims.info/showthre...5#startcomments

We were afraid it was scaring away new people with its length, not to mention the LATE NIGHT in the title. You're not scared anymore, right? You feel warm and fuzzy and welcomed?...

Good, good.

Just as planned.

cagurlie05 29th Jun 2012 5:50 PM

I'm glad you started a new thread myself. I've been looking around for legacy challenges and I never really checked this one out because I thought it was specifically a late night challenge. Guess I should've looked into it, but I didn't. But I think I'll try out this challenge soon, I really like the random app and all that, I like doing things like that with my sims.

*Erika* 29th Jun 2012 6:10 PM

Hah, I'm one who was intimidated with the length of the other thread so never went beyond the first page.

NutsAndDolts 29th Jun 2012 6:40 PM

Wow, that was fast. =O Seems a new thread was sorely needed!

Welcome, you two! Let us know if you've got questions. =)

For oldbies from the old thread who have been following my blog, chapter 111 is up: http://archlegacy.blogspot.com/2012...1-like-man.html

heaven 30th Jun 2012 1:14 AM

So, per our discussion on the old thread, I did decide to turn my Avendale Legacy into a random legacy. Generation 5 will be a hybrid generation, with generation 6 becoming the full fledged RL. So far, I am up to Generation 4, Chapter 11, with Generation 5 ready to take over in 2 chapters or so (well, that and when the heir vote ends). The link to the whole blog is in my signature but I won't start sharing updates until at least Generation 5.

NutsAndDolts 30th Jun 2012 1:28 AM

Sounds fun! Looks like I have some back-reading to do. ^.^

I rarely have two updates in a day, but today I do.

http://archlegacy.blogspot.com/2012...good-times.html

ReyaD 30th Jun 2012 2:41 AM

Heaven's legacy is definately worth the back reading. One of my favourites. (Oh and don't forget the tissues!)

Glad the new thread is already bringing in new faces! Welcome!

Buckley 30th Jun 2012 2:54 AM

Great introduction, Becky! Well put.

This is random and off-topic, but I am moving tomorrow. The name of one of my movers is "Fidget". Again, totally random, but I just had to share. I'm kind of in love... Maybe I'll name my next heir after him!

No updates from me tonight (probably... unless I can't sleep for whatever reason). I'm re-writing my story contest entry. Again. I was completely finished with my first chapter (screenshots done and everything), but I decided it was crap and scrapped it. I also need to catch up on legacies. Again. Maybe I'll do that tonight too.

Edit: And yes, I realize it is Friday night and I am stuck at home playing Sims. Judge away.

ReyaD 30th Jun 2012 3:07 AM

Judging!

I have a chapter done but I don't think I'll post it until tomorrow night. Struggling with a scene so I might re-write that part.

Right now I'm out shopping.

NutsAndDolts 30th Jun 2012 3:13 AM

Fidget was one of the live-action 101 Dalmations (as opposed to the handful of named puppies in the original cartoon). I know because I had a plush toy of him as a kid. When I pulled the string, he'd shake his head back and forth... the toy was supposed to play tog-o-war with you; it had a scrap of red cloth sewn to its mouth. But the shaking was so rapid and only lasted 3 seconds, so it wasn't really fun to play tug-o-war with. So it was just this awkward stuffed animal that went insane and made a weird noise for 3 seconds when I pulled the string.

/nonsense

Will you doom Fidget to be neurotic? xD

heaven 30th Jun 2012 3:32 AM

Awww, thanks for the recommendation Reya.

Also Buckley, it is Friday night for me and the extent of my plans is to have a friend over, drink coronaritas and watch the Vampire Diaries. We can be judged together.

calisims 30th Jun 2012 5:23 AM

Great, I'm glad you got the new thread going, Becky! It looks awesome.

CyyKosis 30th Jun 2012 7:06 AM

Yay new board! So I'm going to be on a 14 hour car ride out to PA tomorrow and I'm thinking of restarting a new legacy. It's been so long since I've had time to update my old one and I forgot where I was even going with it... I apologize I'll roll for my founding generation after I make my starting sim!

AJH 30th Jun 2012 8:48 AM

Welcome new people!

Nothing wrong with playing Sims on a Friday night, just think of all the money you're saving by not going out...

*Erika* 30th Jun 2012 6:09 PM

This thread is already getting pretty busy.

Anyway, I'd love to read all of your legacies and I'd LOVE to have the patience to post one of my own. Problem being, despite laziness, time and a decent internet connection.

kadience 30th Jun 2012 7:31 PM

So because when I deleted all my CC, I also deleted saved sims, and save files, and all that fun stuff, none of my previous Legacies survived, I'm going to start a new one. And I'm gonna stick with it. I have a great idea for it that I've written down. So, hopefully, my game will allow me to actually play it.

Also, nothing wrong with playing Sims on a Friday night... All my Fridays are like that. Saturday nights too.

cagurlie05 30th Jun 2012 10:46 PM

I deleted all my CC today too, and with it all my saves and stuff. Here's hoping my game lets me play now. Sad because I have an awesome computer but my game crashes at random times. So, time to start this challenge over.

ReyaD 30th Jun 2012 10:59 PM

I wish you two the best of luck with your new legacies (You too Cyyk. I'll miss the Amarels)

With each generation I get through I get more and more scared that I'll fuck up and deleate all my sims and save games. I'm on generation 21! I can't stop now!

Update:

3.6 - Picture Perfect http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...244ea68f43f679d

I am quite proud of the photos in this chapter. River's so pretty <3.

hjaxon1701 1st Jul 2012 6:06 AM

Hooray for new people and the new thread!

Buckley, I didn't know there where other things to do on a Friday night besides play Sims, hehe.

I managed to get an update as well as recovered what I lost from the crash a few days ago. Chapter 3 is here: http://tudorsimslegacy.blogspot.com...-new-faces.html

teal_moonshine 1st Jul 2012 9:22 AM

So... I got Lucky Palms today... Thought I'd actually buy a town for once... Seems pretty good, but I'm not really someone who knows what to look for when it comes to town failures

Buckley 1st Jul 2012 9:25 AM

That is an absolutely brilliant (and in turn hilarious) idea! I definitely think I will. Now I just need to make an heir that would be inclined to name their child Fidget. Lol, I need an Arjun.

So, if you all thought my Friday night was exciting, how about this for a Saturday evening: I fell asleep at 8:00 p.m. and now I'm awake at 2:30 a.m. Wild and crazy, I know. At least I have an excuse, what with moving in 100+ degree heat. Gotta love Texas summers.

@Maddie and charmed- Good luck with your new legacies! I am looking forward to reading them!

@hjaxon- Glad you recovered from your crash! That's always such a pain to replay what you've already done.

Edit: Teal, I bought it too after I read the review by kiwi_tea. He's an amazing world builder and gave it really good ratings, so it was a good buy imo.

teal_moonshine 1st Jul 2012 9:40 AM

I did things in a slightly reversed order... Bought then did a quick google scan of terrible terrible problems, but nothing turned up so all good.

kadience 1st Jul 2012 11:22 PM

Happy Canada day to any Canadians here. :D

I got Lucky Palms, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to like my computer, every time I load it, my computer crashes.

ReyaD 2nd Jul 2012 3:59 AM

Happy Canada Day! I had BBQ <3

Update!

3.7 - Pearls and Things http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...and-things.html

Babies. Babies everywhere. O_O

heatherfeather19 2nd Jul 2012 9:22 PM

New thread! Awesome!

I have an update for my random legacy - chapter 1.7: http://diffylegacy.blogspot.com/201...chapter-17.html

The teenager stage for perfect children is pretty difficult, my teen is always in a bad mood with that part-time job. Luckily his father mastered mixology so nice mood-enhancing drinks...uh, juice is ready for him when he gets home. Wouldn't get through homework without it! XD

Buckley 2nd Jul 2012 11:17 PM

Sorry to be "that" person, but whoever was going to post the big "WE'VE MOVED" picture at the end of the old thread should probably do it. I'd be happy to make and post a picture myself, but I don't want to step on any toes.

@charmed- That's quite weird about Lucky Palms. Have you checked to make sure all your CC is good and not corrupt or anything? I can't imagine why an EA world would cause your game to crash. Have you tried the help section? They have some useful articles about crashing and the like.

I'm thinking about eventually moving my legacy family to LP. Jericho is awesome, but it's so slow and laggy. I really do love it though...

kadience 3rd Jul 2012 1:49 AM

@Buckley: I read that a mod was incompatible with it right now. But when I went to the mod download, it was said that that wasn't the issue. Right now, it's no big deal. I have other glitches I'd rather get fixed right now.

teal_moonshine 3rd Jul 2012 11:28 AM

I hope Lucky Palms doesn't give my computer a heart attack. I moved Morgan and Co. there because I liked it. I also tried to cull some store content to see if that helps with the lag for a while.

NutsAndDolts 3rd Jul 2012 2:56 PM

I guess I am really lucky. Even with some glitches, I have managed to keep my family in Barnacle Bay for an entire year.

Chapter 113 is up: http://archlegacy.blogspot.com/2012...-dimension.html

These past few days I've been getting caught up on Heaven's legacy. She really goes out of her way for the screenshots, it's pretty cool. I'd never have the patience to build an actual prom stage. xD

Maus1217 3rd Jul 2012 3:50 PM

I usually just lurk and don't post, but I really like the random legacy. Do you think the rules should be modified to add the new gambling skill to one of the carreer/money making options. Not sure who to make this suggestion to.

NutsAndDolts 3rd Jul 2012 9:53 PM

Gambling skill? Is that store content, to go with Lucky Palms? I've not looked into it.

But basically any way to make significant cash needs to be covered in a career or banned from the challenge. We favor turning it into a career, if we can.

The only exception is owning properties around town, which we decided to simply allow rather than try to make a career of it.

Opportunities are also exceptions; they can be very profitable, but are random.

I think we do need to get around to banning the inheritance reward.

ReyaD 3rd Jul 2012 9:57 PM

I don't think many of us use the inheritance reward anyway do to the cheaty feel of it. But I'm all for banning it. I also think gambling should be allowed.

Anyway, I've got an update:

3.8 - Shuffling http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...-shuffling.html

NutsAndDolts 3rd Jul 2012 11:03 PM

I'm not sure how gambling works. If it's like real gambling, where you usually lose, then it's not a viable career option and should be allowed for all sims to waste simoleons on.

But if your sim is pretty much guaranteed to come out on top, even if they have to skill it first, then it should be a career.

CinderEmma 4th Jul 2012 12:01 AM

It's been forever since I've been here I've been keeping up with Melissa's non-random legacy...but that's it XDXDXD Lots of catch up to do!

Buckley 4th Jul 2012 12:50 AM

Gambling? A career? That's going to be on my "banned" list for sure if we decide to add it to the rolls. Although it does have some interesting story potential, I just loathe the idea of having my heir spend all of his days at the casino. It seems like it would get boring awfully fast as there are (currently) only two gambling machines. Plus, where's the challenge? Admittedly, the other careers aren't exactly hard either, but they're more involved than just pulling a lever on the slot machine or sitting at a card table. Whatever y'all decide, though, is fine. I won't pitch a fit or anything. xD

If we're discussing banning certain LTRs, I think the genie needs to be forbidden also. It only costs 30K points, but you can wish for 100K Simoleons three times over. For the same price as the inheritance reward, you get oodles more money. Just some food for thought.

NutsAndDolts 4th Jul 2012 2:03 AM

Like I said, I don't know anything about this gambling skill, so I'm just guessing at what we should do.

IF the net gain on gambling is always positive once the gambling skill is high, but playing a gambler would be boring, maybe we could combine it with some other weird careers we have. Like, Freelance Scientist is a combination of many activities you can make money with, but wouldn't be satisfying on their own. But gambling would not fit with Freelance Scientist. Hmm.

Genie lamps can be obtained without the rewards system. I'm of the opinion that they could be OK for storytelling, if the player really had a good idea for how to handle them; not all of the wishes are huge cheats. Maybe we should just ban getting a lamp through lifetime happiness points, and ban wishing for "long life" and "fortune", if one should obtain a lamp through other means.

The genie lifestate itself has a kind of cheatyness to it, like vampirism, but we've been letting vampirism slide and allowing players to kind of self-regulate those.

Kayla_Elaine 4th Jul 2012 3:50 AM

A storm knocked out the city's power, it has been turned back on now, thankfully. Nice to see the shiny new thread

Tamlyn 4th Jul 2012 3:54 AM

Well, I'm trying a legacy without the story part. When I do the story, I get distracted by that, so I'm just trying to get through to the end for once without worrying about story reasons for hunting down mates and getting caught up in characters and the like. So far it's working. I thought I'd share my people, even though it's not as interesting as a story. Once I can actually play through a legacy, I might try chronicling again.

My founders were Jamal and Illona Klaasen. Illona is a classical musician, Jamal a self employed inventer. They have two children, Logan and Zac (Zachary). Logan is heir. I had perfect children and hands off, which was mildly exasperating. Technically I failed perfect children as I didn't get the block table, but I just couldn't figure out how.

Logan will be in Professional sports. I hunted down a girlfriend for him (invited her over the day she aged up to teen so that Story Progression wouldn't pair her off!) and she will be a photographer.

I managed to get the stuff packs I didn't have and showtime on sale the other day (yay!), so I might choose a showtime career for my third gen.

NutsAndDolts 4th Jul 2012 4:32 AM

Grats Tamlyn! =)

I don't know much about the gambling skill either, but it seems pretty one-dimensional. You play the machines, you gain the skill (or so I imagine). I was hoping Carl's guide would have an article about it, but I couldn't find one. If I remember, I'll play around with the gambling machines tomorrow to get a better feel for it, but personally I'd prefer to keep it optional so that my Simmies can play for fun. If it's a career, then gambling would be forbidden when my heir hasn't rolled it. Again though, I'm fine with whatever the group decides.

As for the genie, I simply meant that the LTR should be banned. If you get the lamp by other methods, then I don't have a problem with it. Or, if we just ban the money and life-extending wishes, that would be fine too. However, if we start banning the life-extending tricks, we would have to add some of the generation rewards to the mix as well. Ugh, this gets complicated!

It all depends on how strict we want the rules to be. Honestly, I worry more about scaring away new players than alienating the regulars. Most of us on here don't hesitate to bend the rules whenever we roll something intolerable or if we have a plot idea we want to see through. I'm all for clarifying the fuzzier points of the challenge, but I can definitely see the benefit of leaving the rules somewhat ambiguous.

@Tamlyn- Glad you've found something that will work for you! It's definitely easy to get caught up in the story aspect over the playing part. I'm guilty of that myself. What world are you playing your legacy in? Also, any chance you'll show us a picture of your heir?

LadyAwesome 4th Jul 2012 7:53 AM

You know.... this should be named the awesome addition!

NutsAndDolts 4th Jul 2012 2:13 PM

I see your point about the gambling. That's why I hope EA made it "realistic", so we can all play without worry of exploit.

With every new expansion pack, the challenge rules become weirder. Extending life was banned, but it specifically named life fruit, forgetting about death flowers. Then all these other ways to extend life popped up.

Maus1217 4th Jul 2012 4:36 PM

I've only tested the gambling skill a bit and I'm sure some person smarter than me can figure out a way to make tons of money with it.

Once you earn one skill point in it, it does not seem to take long to get to skill level 10. Both my sims ending up in the postive side of winning compared to loosing. While your building up to level 10 it seems your close to breaking even with money.

NutsAndDolts 4th Jul 2012 6:10 PM

Is it a hidden skill? ...I should go look this up myself. xD

Chapter 114 is up: http://archlegacy.blogspot.com/2012...r-114-edgy.html

ForeverCamp 4th Jul 2012 7:11 PM

Hi! I've gotten addicted to reading the Random Legacy blogs out there (thanks a lot, Reya and heaven! ) - and my contest entry for the Story Time contest is now using a Random Legacy family. The story itself will be starting at Generation 2 (or maybe I'll end up calling it Generation 1 afterwards), and once the contest is done, I'll start up a blog for it.

In the meantime... check out the first chapter!

ETA: Also, that's my Gen 2 heir Sapphira Thorpe and one of the two Gen 3 children, Mika, in my avatar. I caught that picture and couldn't resist squeeing over it.

AJH 4th Jul 2012 8:11 PM

I have an update:- http://clemetislegacy.blogspot.co.u...-sixty-two.html

So far as the gambling is concerned, I'm guessing that's from the latest premium content from the store? Personally I doubt I'll be getting it, but I think if it's very profitable then it should go into a career and if it's got a decent probability of your sim losing money then it should just be left.

Edit to add: I could do with a couple of Chinese sims to add in if anyone's got any recommendations

Maus1217 4th Jul 2012 10:33 PM

Its not a hidden skill. It is under the same tab with the other skills like guitar, logic etc.

ReyaD 5th Jul 2012 10:53 PM

Update!

3.9 - Trust Me http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...9-trust-me.html

Will catch up on updates tonight. Am currently distracted by the fact that we are having SUN in Vancouver! O_O

ReyaD 6th Jul 2012 4:29 AM

Hate to double post.... but Cali, you mentioned on Becky's story that you had a mod that let you buy WA stuff at the grocery store. Do you have a link handy? I've been looking for it but can't find it on MTS anywhere.

heaven 7th Jul 2012 1:19 AM

I've not really played yet with these rules so I can't really do much but give my unenlightened opinion. To me, the gambling skill seems like it would be especially boring for an actual roll. I can see it being rather handy for certain plot points in story-telling but not as a full-fledged career. However, if the more seasoned players think it should be one, I can easily turn it off. So either way, it doesn't concern me too much.

Also, I just ordered and received my new computer so, starting with chapter 5.1 (2 chapters from where I am or so), I will have a brand new computer with hopefully NO lag and lots and lots of lovely graphics. I am certainly looking forward to it!

ReyaD 7th Jul 2012 1:25 AM

So jealous, Heaven! I want a new computer : (

Update:

3.10 - What a B- http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...310-what-b.html

You can be "eh" about Pearl, Rio and even Nile... but not Kitten. You either love her or hate her. No middle ground.

Buckley 7th Jul 2012 4:48 AM

For those of you that play with twallan's StoryProgression, do you leave rigorous home inspection on? I mean, what's the benefit of having it on? I know that it will check for enough cribs and beds and the like, but does it negatively affect the townies' moods if there aren't enough beds in their house? Or is that somewhat automated? I'm trying to determine if I need to go through and add cribs to all the houses in LP or if I can just be lazy and turn home inspection off. I'm curious what y'all do.

@Heaven- Congrats on the purchase! That's so exciting! What kind of computer did you get? (Or is that a rude question? I'm never sure. Don't answer if you don't want to, lol.)

heaven 7th Jul 2012 5:06 AM

I don't even know what that option is. I usually don't fiddle with stuff unless I know explicitly what it does. Home Inspection is not one of those things!

I don't see it as a rude question. It's a Cyberpower. Don't want to brag so I'll put the specs in spoiler.

The monitor isn't actually here yet so I've got it hooked up to our large screen TV in the bedroom (nerd much?). I couldn't wait to actually turn it on. Also, I've got to get a wireless adapter (derp for not checking that out when I ordered) so it may not be until next week before I actually get a chance to play Sims on it. I've been contemplating installing TS2 just to play SOMETHING on it. Maybe Medieval.

CinderEmma 7th Jul 2012 5:17 AM

*sighs* I want to play simsssss. Stupid stupid game, it is just broken. I don't know what's crashing my game, all I know is that I'm MAD.

Buckley, I BELIEVE they move them to a house that has enough beds. Not 100% sure though, that could have been some other Twallan feature.

Buckley 7th Jul 2012 5:36 AM

Wow! Nice! That should run the game really well.

@Emma- Have you tried the help forums? They may be able to help your troubleshoot.

When my game doesn't work, I just take everything out and slowly add it back in if the vanilla game runs fine. Granted, I've never had too many issues or even had to do a complete reinstall. Wish I could help more.

hjaxon1701 7th Jul 2012 6:45 AM

Buckley, I have the inspection on for double beds. If a house doesn't have enough beds to accommodate all the Sims in the house, they are moved to a house with enough beds, or made homeless if there are no houses that have enough beds. I used to have it on for cribs, but so many Sims became homeless that I turned it off. Apparently my Sims like large families. But that's all that option does as far as I know. It hasn't appeared to do anything else in my game.

Congratulations on your new computer Heaven!

I finally cobbled together an update. It's mostly baby and toddler spam. http://tudorsimslegacy.blogspot.com...winging-it.html

The next chapter should be up in a day or two; it's about three quarters of the way written, but I need to do a bit of research and finalize the plot.

I hope everyone who celebrated the Fourth of July enjoyed their holiday!

I think it moves the family to a house with enough beds and cots, not sure what it does if there isn't a house with enough though. I tend not to turn it on because I don't want to go round the entire neighbourhood making sure there are enough beds and cots.

Heaven - I'm deeply jealous of your new computer! It sounds fantastic!

teal_moonshine 7th Jul 2012 10:39 AM

Just on the (slight) topic of computer names, I named mine Henry, to which my dad asked "... Why?"

My iPod's name is Albert.

But with SP inspections, I think if you dont allow them, it won't negatively effect them, but I'm no expert.

Miss Puff 7th Jul 2012 7:12 PM

Hey everyone! I've been slowly starting to get back into the Sims, so I thought I'd come see how things were going for everyone in the challenge. Nice new thread you've got here. It will probably be a little while before I post any new updates still, but I might post some pictures around MTS, so I wanted to pop in and say hi.

Congrats on your new computer, Heaven. My partner just got one too, so I'm jealous even though mine's already pretty good. ^^;

For rigorous home inspection, I don't THINK it will kick Sims out of somewhere they're already living, but it will prevent homeless Sims from moving in. Don't hold me to that, though.

AJH 7th Jul 2012 8:30 PM

I've just checked Twallan's site and Rigorous Home Inspection just means that Story Progression won't move a family into a house which doesn't have enough beds etc - it looks like he's updated it to include options for double beds, career items and pets as well

Zexxa 7th Jul 2012 9:32 PM

I've started my own random legacy. I put up the first chapter. I should really try to take more pictures. I'm not really doing a plot, but interesting stories are kind of happening on their own.

NutsAndDolts 8th Jul 2012 1:44 AM

Yaaay! Miss Puff returns, if only briefly. =) I always miss ya.

I'll get caught up on the rest of you now.

Woot, not the only one who gave names to electronics. xD My computer's name is Fred, while my ipod is Jeremy. My best friend and I also named all the appliances in her kitchen. >.>

So, I got that terrible thing in my game where when I enter CAS, it stays on Materializing Materials... Forever. Three days of combing through CC, and trying to get my launcher to open so I can clear that too, I finally gave up and just deleted the entire Sims folder in My Documents. So if this doesn't work. I don't know what I'm going to do. I'd just uninstall Sims, but I wouldn't be able to put it back on, since I gave my disks to my little sister to borrow. -_-

All this just to try and make an outfit to look like someone was in jail.

Buckley 8th Jul 2012 4:22 AM

Miss Puff!!! *hugs* I'm so happy you popped your head in (so to speak). It's good to hear from you.

Welcome Zexxa! Hope you're enjoying the challenge so far.

I like how you all gave male names to your gadgets. My computer is named Brünnhilde, after the character in Richard's Wagner's Ring cycle operas. Yes, I am a nerd who likes classical music. Or maybe I was just obsessed with Bugs Bunny as a child and he did a spoof on it once. (Here.) You decide.

Lacey Fay 8th Jul 2012 5:13 AM

Hey look there's a thread for this! Hooray! Well, hello all, my name is Lacey, and I am going to start a Random Legacy soon. I just popped in to say I'm very very grateful for all those that helped create the Random Legacy and also for the stories, as I do enjoy a couple of them. To add to the discussion of names - my iPod's name is Anakin, my computer is Zee V2.0, and my tablet is Zayva. I recently named by eReader Choco.

ReyaD 8th Jul 2012 6:13 AM

I named my laptop Sarah. (Not Say-rah. SAH-rah... I'm picky) She's beautiful, and sleek, and elegant, and I love her. <3

The desk where I used to have my big computer was Freddy. The computer itself had no name...

hjaxon1701 8th Jul 2012 6:32 AM

Welcome to the challenge Lacey and Zexxa! I'm looking forward to hearing about your legacies!

Everyone has such fun names for their gadgets. Technically my laptop is Artemis, but I tend to refer to her as "Old and Busted." Not very creative, but highly accurate. My iPod goes by Relic, as it is a relic.

There is no shame in liking classical music, as it is awesome, especially with Bugs Bunny. My orchestra played Barber of Seville overture last fall and our conductor stopped us and said, "I don't care how fast Bugs Bunny took the tempo, you need to follow MY tempo!" Silly conductor, Bugs Bunny's tempo is the best!

Update: Robert and Elizabeth get a mysterious phone call. http://tudorsimslegacy.blogspot.com...ious-voice.html

AJH 8th Jul 2012 9:51 AM

I have to admit, I don't name my gadgets and it's never occurred to me to do so... Does that make me odd?

NutsAndDolts 8th Jul 2012 2:42 PM

I don't name my computers either. On our household network, it's just labeled with my own name.

Lacey Fay 8th Jul 2012 3:07 PM

Just finished my rolls for generation one, now I must allow the creative juices to flow and see if I can't come up with anything interesting. *steeples fingers*. Let us begin.

/serious business.

ForeverCamp 8th Jul 2012 7:11 PM

I'm just frozen on mine because my two possible Gen 3 heirs are teenagers now. But I can't release their backstories until the Story Time contest moves forward, because their mother is the basis of the contest story. *lesigh*

ReyaD 8th Jul 2012 7:44 PM

Thats why I made up a new world for the story contest. : P And just having a few of my legacy character CLONES making cameos or short appearances.

Also update!:

3.11 - Good and Crazy http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...c27fcbc9068fc87

Pearl and Rio grow up and learn how strange the opposite gender really is. Nile and Kitten remain adorable.

Zexxa 8th Jul 2012 8:25 PM

My old laptop is named the Beast. It suits him. He's like 15 pounds with a 19" widescreen. He needs a new video card, then I may use him again. This laptop is new, so it doesn't have a name yet.

NutsAndDolts 9th Jul 2012 12:21 AM

I should have weighed my old laptop. It could play Black&White2, which was impressive to me at the time I bought it. xD

It's since been replaced by a desktop. I won't go back to laptops.

As soon as I have the money to get a desktop. I'm going with that too. A laptop was great when I was in school, I could write my notes, and play games at school during Spares, and History. But now it's a pain in my butt. :P

LadyAwesome 9th Jul 2012 4:21 AM

I miss the Arch legacy so much, I have so much to catch up on.... that can be tomorrows job !

confusedngrowing 9th Jul 2012 4:26 AM

Hey! So I am new to this whole random legacy thing and I guess the whole forum thing too.

Is there a blog roll somewhere with all of the current random legacies?

O and here is my legacy story:

http://twistedleyrandomlegacy.wordpress.com/

I should be posting chapter 3 soon. Ya I meant that new.

confusedngrowing 9th Jul 2012 4:51 AM

Whoops

And now I see the kind of blog roll thingy at the beginning. My bad sorry.

I think I am going to try and make an updated one on my blog we shall see how that goes...

Sorry, I'm late replying. I don't check this thread as often as I used to.
Here's the mod:

I have an update! (FINALLY! Lol.)

Chapter 12: Already Gone
http://themckinleychronicles.blogsp...2db2f33beee223c

And welcome to the challenge, confused! That list in the first post doesn't get updated that often. Most of us have links in our signatures and/or we post updates on this thread.

musicalgirl2010 9th Jul 2012 5:25 PM

wow it's been a long time since I last posted... but life likes to get in the way sometimes... anyway
Update!

Update!

3.12 - Nothing to Worry About http://sarisimsrandomlegacy.blogspo...orry-about.html

Dorian and River freak themselves out and the younger twins become teens!

Also: Heir vote is up!

CyyKosis 9th Jul 2012 8:23 PM

I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but in the patch that was released today it says this: Showtime Performance Venues will be accessible as Late Night bars. This bit of news got me pretty pumped since I couldn't wrap my head around why it wasn't like this from the beginning.

confusedngrowing 9th Jul 2012 10:30 PM

Thanks Buckley

NutsAndDolts 10th Jul 2012 4:59 AM

Seems we're getting lots of new people, plus some returning faces. Awesome. =)

Chapter 116 is up: http://archlegacy.blogspot.com/2012...ig-wig-wag.html

Almost halfway through generation 9.

Anarathiel 10th Jul 2012 8:19 AM

Hey guys! I've put the thread closed thing on the old thread.
I would have done it earlier but i only got back on saturday and have been rather busy since then.

Edit: I love the new OP! xD

ForeverCamp 11th Jul 2012 7:37 AM

After getting the all-clear from heaven about posting up the legacy as rounds in the contest close, I have shameless advertisement.

Currently up: Introduction/Foreword and Chapter 1.1 - One Day in Shang Simla

Anarathiel 11th Jul 2012 8:17 AM

Guys, I hate to have to say this but it may be a while before my next update comes out.
As well as working now, I will also having to be studying throughout the summer to resit some of my exams in november.

I failed the course I was on, and as a result i have to take resits alongside 2 more years at school :/
Which means I won't be out of high school/sixth form until I'm 20 years old *cries*

I'll try to get some blogging and playing done but it won't be anywhere near as often as I like.

NutsAndDolts 11th Jul 2012 2:05 PM

Wow, I'm sorry Anarathiel. =(

Lacey Fay 11th Jul 2012 2:14 PM

I'm so sorry Anarathiel. I have to finish my high schooling with the local college because none of the schools will take me, so it will be about that long before I finish as well.

In Sims related news, the patch broke my game. So I'm currently in the process of a complete reinstall and trying to hunt down all my store content and mods on my computer. No patch for me until I get Diesel Stuff and Sweet Treats next week.

Buckley 11th Jul 2012 5:40 PM

I would've been in high school 'til I was twenty as well, but I opted to get my GED instead. That really sucks though, Ana. I'm sorry to hear that.

I got Diesel myself yesterday. A lot of the clothes have the word "DIESEL" written on them, which irks me to no end. Also, there are NO clothes for toddlers/children/teens/elders. What a bummer. But the sofa, chair, and bed are my absolute favorites, ever.

confusedngrowing 11th Jul 2012 7:43 PM

Chapter 4 of my random legacy is up!

Anarathiel 11th Jul 2012 10:59 PM

Aww thanks for the sympathy guys.
I think it won't be too bad to deal with, the first week may be a little embarrassing but i'll get over it.
luckily, i'm at the young end of the school year (July 13th xD) so i'll technically be 19 when i leave

besides, my teachers told me if i do these two years, I'll get amazing grades which means i could potentially go to a really high university. so maybe it's for the better

hjaxon1701 12th Jul 2012 1:29 AM

I'm sorry to hear about your school Anarathiel, that's too bad. Try to keep a positive attitude, and you'll be fine. :-)

ReyaD 12th Jul 2012 2:23 AM

I'm glad you're holding a good attitude about all this, Anarathiel. And your teachers are right. My friend re-took her last year of highschool and managed to get into her first choice university. So its for the best.

Anarathiel 12th Jul 2012 7:19 AM

The way i see it is there's no point getting too sad about it or it will seem worse.

This way I have two more years of free living where the fridge refills itself and the washing does itself etc, I'll be able to have another two years gym membership and another two years of phone contract. and i can save up for uni for another 2 years. The only downside is that i have to deal with my stepdad's moodswings. He's worse than me lol.

Edit: Does anybody know any good unpopulated towns, I want to move the family at some point. I can't believe the twists that I'm getting into my legacy now, I've finally got a plot instead of my blog going in it's own direction.

*hugs* I didn't finish High School until I was 19 (I would have been 17 if I had graduated normally*, it sucks to be left behind. I was very lucky I had my friend with me from my old school to the new school (I had 3 credits left and couldn't stay at my old school due to absents), but it was still lonely knowing everybody was off to college and I was stuck in high school.
