[IT'S HERE! COMPLETE] Doomsday Challenge Part IV: Devastation
AT LONG LAST!
Devastation has arrived! I have worked on this many MANY hours. It is a dual experience where you choose the path of light or darkness with a very different experience for each! If you find typos (I am 100% confident there are quite a few but I can no longer work on this or hold it back from you guys) please let me know. I sincerely hope this challenge was worth the effort I put in to it...so with no further ado... DOOMSDAY CHALLENGE PART IV: DEVASTATION! Click the link above to go a website dedicated specifically to this challenge! |
i love it cant wait so cool
|
Misty, you are officially my favourite challenge poster.
The Crime Lord part? It's like you went into my mind and read what I wanted in a challenge. I am so excited, I can't even. :D |

Yes, in my testing I am going that route as well!! There is a fairly decent amount of changes you will need to make to your town (or use a different, smaller, more primitive one). I have a good bit of the challenge written. I may go ahead and release the specifications for setting up your home and town so everyone will be ready to roll when the entire challenge comes online. |
Just an update. I am still working on this. It turned out longer than I thought because I am doing the daily events thing just like I did in this countdown challenge. Plus many days have separate events depending on what play style you are choosing (good guy or bad guy). I'm about 75% done now. Thank goodness.
|
I just.. want to hug you and your challenges. I get so excited when you post a new challenge.
|
I cant wait to get started on this challenge!!!! Sorry I'm just happy you posted the next part...
|
I want to play this but it feels like it needs a special town or something.

I am probably going to create a website just for this challenge where you can click on the savior or crime lord path just to make things easier for you all. As it stands, I'm at Page 16 and i'm only about 3/4 done.... Keep your eyes peeled. It will be out soon, I promise! |

Its just..huge.
There are so many elements. I wanted to bring in the daily events (like in Countdown) that everyone loves so much. There is also this epic struggle going on where you are trying to gather the influence of the other houses in town. There is a trading system for good guys and a thieving system for the bad ones, not to mention managing you family, preparing an heir to take over in case the main character dies, etc. There are a lot of role playing elements where you are setting a scene. Here is an example of one of the daily evens just to give you an idea (keeping in mind the challenge itself gives instructions on how you handle these situations)): ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 23: House Day!! (Savior): With 3 houses under your belt, you’re pretty proud of the progress you’ve made and the service you’ve been able to provide to the community. You’ve been meeting with a 4th prospective house. They’ve been hesitant to agree to join you in fear of what might happen. Late one evening, from a comfortable seat on your front porch, you notice an orange glow in the night sky. Fire! You grab what men you can muster and head out. The house you have been pursuing is on fire. You instruct your crew to set up a water bucket line to put out the fire when a women runs from the blaze screaming that her young child is still inside. You may either run inside and save the child putting your own life at risk or continue trying to put out the flames and not risk it. Decide now! (Crime Lord) It’s time for a real show of who has the power in this town. One of your enemies has been very vocal against you, going so far as to rally others to root out your organization. This can NOT go unpunished. You order a raid on his house and instruct that no adult men are to be left alive. Women and children will be assigned to your other houses as servants to reward your followers. Once the house is vacant, you can assign it to one of your adult children and increase your area of influence. No one screws with you and gets away with it!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additionally, I am starting Let's Plays on youtube for my challenges. My first one will be Doomsday (Countdown) so you guys will be able to see me go through my own challenges |

Thank you! I worked on it more tonight and I am about 90% done writing it! I have to finish up on the daily events (on Day 38 right now), go through and edit it, then transfer it to the special website I've created to house it. The thing that concerns me is the sheer enormity of this challenge. I am on Page 22 at present! I'm hoping breaking it up into savior vs. crime lord pages will make it easier to follow. On the up side, this challenge has some good replayability. A lot of what the savior and crime lord does is two sides of the same coin (the CL causes an incident and he Savior deals with it) so there should be some fun times there. |
Well, as soon as you're done, I'll play it! Really looking forward to it!
|
Can you believe the draft is DONE! I only need to edit it and copy/paste it over to the web page I've already created and it is good to go!!! Look for this tomorrow most likely. I will put (COMPLETE) in the post title so you know it's up!
Update: Yay! Done!! I am nervous though. I hope it's well received. Keep in mind that with all of my challenes, if you don't like a rule, change it. It's all about YOUR fun. If something is making you crazy, don't be afraid to improvise! Please please please respond with your feedback. Good or bad. |
I'm too busy reading all your hard work to have commented earlier! I love it!
Even though I still have my founder from Part I, I think I'm going to start with new sims, since I've lost the initial affection that I had for my founder when I made him. Question: Any tips for building the safe house? |

Perhaps a couple small bedrooms, a warehouse-like area for your loot. Maybe a private office for your crime lord or even a small meeting area. Whatever you think is interesting! Wow I've only had one response since 3pm...I'm starting to think the challenge wasn't as fun as I thought it was Please respond with any thoughts you might have (positive or negative) or drop me a private message. Thanks! |
I haven't started playing it yet!

Just a brief note on trading and stealing.
Keep in mind that this is a post apocalyptic world. Everyone is living in a shack. They might have gotten lucky and acquired a nice thing or two, but you're not going to find things like huge flat screen televisions, VR goggles, hot tubs, etc. The primary intent of trade/steal is that the majority of items you will get are modest, everyday things. Perhaps someone is a carpenter and they can make basic furniture and sell it, or someone might have a limited storage of batteries. Just be realistic. You're primarily dealing with the people who weren't good enough to get into the colony. Believe me, the rich are gone and took the flat screen TVs with them! Also, remember you are on generator power,. Generators do not provide an unlimited source of juice. Sure it will run all of your lights and small appliances, you are running your fridge during that time to try to make ice so that you can keep your food cool during non-electric times. Try to stagger your use of items that are going to need a lot of power. For example, don't have mom roasting a turkey while dad is on the treadmill (if you were lucky enough to scavenge one). Finally, use your best judgement. Really think about whether something is feasible. For example. A TV sounds nice, but how many channels do you think are really broadcasting? And if you do get that hot tub (nice job carrying that home on your bike or horse cart by the way), how many buckets of water is it going to take to fill that thing? Just giving you a few pointers you may not have thought of. Happy simming! p.s. Forgot something!! Any children that you raise that are not your own are 100% lloyal to you and may be placed in vacant houses to bring the house under your control. Remember, teens may be considered adults in this challenge (if you so choose and have the mods to make it so). You should be sending them to the house with a spouse and enough supplies to get them started. I will be modifying the challenge to say this. I will also be adding a new section to the challenge (under general rules) called "Yes Virginia, there is a babysitter, but she may take more than you bargained for". |
I really want to start playing this (loved part 1) but I don't know hoe to build the shacks - it says look at the "my house" section but I cant find it - help!
|
Man, this looks like fun but I'm finally sitting down and getting started with Part 1. It'll take forever to get to Part 4. You'll probably be done with Part 7 by the time I catch up. XD

One more question and then i'll get right on this challenge! any restrictions on the neighbors? I know i need 10 but anything else?
|
2 Attachment(s)
Just finished stripping the world, adding in the various neighbours, and finally made my main character, plus his two goons. I'm using horses as well for means of getting around.
(Obviously going with the Crime Lord Path) |
Hey guys. I havent gotten a lot of feedback on this one. If you have any thoughts, please share them.
p.s. I thought I posted an answer to the neighbor question but it appears not to be posed. No, you can use whatever neighbors you like. |
We're too busy playing it, Misty.
My sims in-game probably hate me, though. I had to take away their fridge because they wouldn't stop eating quick meals. As far as I'm concerned, there's not an unlimited amount of ice cream for everyone to eat whenever they get famished. Tough it out until someone can catch a fish. |
day 5 playing as a hero - sims come from my doomsday 1 challenge - husband, wife, oldest child is a teen plus the brothers: I have learned horses are a pain in my ass and have bought bicycles. 1 house under my control and i found a stove in the dumpster! also the aliens love my house - 2 alien kids so far! justifying the kitchen - tables are turned into counters and the fridge is a converted bookshelf - no freezing or cooling just stores veggies from the garden so i can cook. i also use screp to build walls - 10 scrap is 1 wall. all of this building is done by my level 10 handy sim. I'll keep you updated!
|
Trade day: I got lucky! 2 small generators and 5 buckets of water for a microwave and 5 lettuces! bargain!

Hey nicely done! I toyed around with some way to incorporate scrap but never got around to it. You could use scrap to possibly repair metal or other items (within reason). BTW I'm glad you're enjoying it. I hadn't heard much so I honestly thought I bombed with this one (made it too complicated). Keep me posted! I would love to see pictures of homes pieced together from trade/steal and dumpster diving. P.S. You guys got a reprieve from my challenges, now i'm back and loaded with yet ANOTHER challenge in the works. A lot less complex but lots of fun. |
NO.
NO NO NO NO. That is the saviour. Your nemesis. You know, the guy you have to defeat in the end? Although it would be an incredibly amusing, entertaining and interesting plot twist, I'm going to have to forbid this romance. Sorry, lovebirds. Question: Is athletic equipment tradable/stealable? |
Quote: Originally posted by MistressTiffany
Maybe this mod would be useful for this challenge, as far as eliminating quick meals from your active sims' fridge. Well, doesn't eliminate them, but makes them require an ingredient. Looking forward to finally starting this! |
I have a question before I play this challenge: What are the rules on supernaturals? Since they got excluded from the Colony, it would make sense that they would be stuck in the Devastation, right?
|
You can play whatever you like. Supernaturls are fine.
|

You can be a superntural and have humans in your house; however, adding members to your family is pretty much restricted to a) your children and possibly their spouses if you have them living there, or b) people you pick up from the daily events.

Well, Category III says, and I quote, "Items in the expensive category are worth up to $1,000 and are hard to find. Medium generators (4 hours of energy), large appliances, bathtubs, a servant for your family, and other items that would be hard to obtain are found here. Food cannot be traded for expensive items!" Now I'm confused, because your last post appears to directly contradict that.

Finished! arranging the fights was hard at first (all my sims are nice guys usually) but i had lots of fun! fights were easy once arranged though as pretty much everybody in my house has 10 athletic and therefore don't lose fights ever - might be worth adding in a rng to the fights - make it possible to lose? maybe i got lucky though - my sim had nearly all sons so plenty of soldiers anyway.
am now replaying as a crime lord |

Flu was the hardest! I had a house full including a toddler and triplets and the mum barely made it through the 24 hours - fainting was a big possibility! I also got a lot of bad rolls when out dumpster diving - i lost come cool stuff. Weirdly i liked the first 30 days the best - trying to sorting the house so it would fit everyone and checking the junkyard every day for a crib that kind of thing. plus learning how to sort out all the fighting. Hard points definitely but nothing like I was going to fail.
Few additions i made just for me- handy sim 5+ could fix/convert furniture - salvaging furniture or turning the microwave into a fridge that kind of thing. 10+ I had them building walls and floors out of scrap and doors out of destroyed wooden furniture. I also used notepad to keep track of buckets of water because it was easier for me. I completely gave up on horses and used bikes/jogging (no good explanation of where the bikes came from) I also got stupidly lucky in the first week or so - got an exercise machine from the dumpster - pure chance! I have started the crime lord part but i'm exhausted! (UK time so its 1.30am now) so I've stopped playing for a bit - so far we found a football and frizbee in the dumpster so they spend most of their time playing to up athletic - i miss my stereo and exercise machine! |

/QUOTE] Yeah I designed that to appear easy but, in actually, be a royal pain in the ass lol. Keep me posted on your progress as a crime lord! |
So..I'm going to try this with a twist. I made a family (husband & wife) to be my central family. I'm playing two ways. The female will play as the savior in my 'good' game. The male will play as the Crime Lord in my 'bad' game. I want to see who does the best. I think the bad version will be more fun. We'll see!
|
since there this no house section what am i allowed to put in my house? I didn't start with that mutch good stuff but i did give my self some extra things fore skill gaining. Also its sometimes easy and sometimes extremely hard, for insistence it took 7 dead baby's before i had one live to be a toddler, yet when it came to food i had so much in my sims inventory it lagged the game (444 apples to be exact). So i think it needs some balancing. But this is still amazing, its the only one of your challenges that made me play 5 hours strait before. So good job, but i still really think you need to add MORE rules so i can uncear stand what I cant and cant do. Also i would like to hear other peoples story's ill be posting some of mine shortly. Oh and since this is mainly a rant on its flaws, make a better combat system so its a challenge. For instance make a roll, if its over ten you hit, if its over 15 you hit 2X as mutch, now add 1+ for every athletic skill and +1 every 5 logic, then randomly make them add guns witch are a 1 hit kill if you get hit. Like i said though its still a great challenge and one of the best designed

You could fish but you had to roll to see if you made it back to the house with the fish on the event table. Also, did someone in your house get a high enough logic skill to get the bonus for your kids when they made their virus check? That just sounds like some unlucky rolls. |
my gardener got 7 garden skill, got 30 apple trees, and fertilized them with outstanding quality apples, and got super green thumb for having all the baby's who i immediately removed. I personly am amazed i got that mutch too, even though everyone ate apples every day. i them found out fishing was useless considering theres like a 50% to lose some of your items so i stopped, but i did fertilize all of my crops before that happened. Also she worked on there garden every day and that was all, she didn't cook, work out, help with anything since there was no babys to take care of. at first i dident see the 1+ to kids survival but it dident matter i got mainly low numbers. It probley was just unlucky.

Well, I made my heavily-modified Dragon Valley for the challenge. I laid it out like a football field, with the Savior's and Crime Lord's houses (both based on the MacAnna house - even though it's 2 stories I decided to leave half of the house completely empty for the challenge start) as the "endzones" and house 5 (which is right on the river) as "midfield". Following this analogy, the other houses (the 10x10 ones) would be the 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard lines. The Crime Lord's side is west of the river and the Savior's side is east. The Sheriff's office is a 15x15 box house; the Safehouse is a standard 10x10 house with a WA-door (my name for the secret door from the World Adventures tombs) in the bathroom leading to a basement. Each side has a tavern; both are EAxis taverns from Dragon Valley with part of it walled off and accessible by a WA-door.
The Savior and Crime Lord are brothers in my game; their wives are sisters. Each started with two horses. I'll post pictures once I can get back in game. (I'll be playing the Crime Lord first, then the Savior.) |

MistyDW, I have a question. When you say 'nothing will occur' the first three days do you mean nothing in addition to the regular, everyday events? My Sim had to leave for water and rolled 1, so he is dead! That is correct, right? If it is, it is, but I'm not sure.
|
I also have a question. In the backstory for each path, it says "Additional Starting Family: " and then lists two members. Are these the same new members from days 1-3?
|
Obviously I'm not Misty, but I'll still try to answer your questions.
Quote: Originally posted by koololdster
Yes and yes- the first three days have no special events like taking over houses, it's just a few days to get settled in the beginning. If your main character was the only one out when you rolled the one, then yes, he is dead. If someone else came with him, then the other one would die. But hey- at least it was at the beginning of the game and not too much was lost if you start again, right?
Quote: Originally posted by PSDuckie
That is correct, your main character and then (if you're doing Saviour) Father/Brother duo or (if you're doing Crime Lord) the two young adult boys. (Although obviously the genders can be swapped) |
I'm curious if anyone else ever finished this? I know it was a massive challenge. The main thing is hopefully it provided those who tried it with some entertainment if nothing else
|
Out of all the Doomsday challenges, I think this one is the best! It's on my to-do list, looking forward to trying it out
|
I cant find the "my house" section? I reaally want to start, but it's a bit hard without a house.. Or am I just blind?

I did this one right after I did Doomsday Challange: Part 1 (the ones in between didn't tickle my fancy). I really enjoyed it! Part 1 is still my favourite, but this was great fun too. I made the townsfolk Game of Thrones characters, so I could go beat up Lanisters I made a modification to the virus checks when the kids age up though, since otherwise even with two couples producing kids, I'd gotten to day 20 and not had a single baby make it to teenage. I made it so that if at any age up they outright survived the roll, than that was it, I didn't have to roll again at later age ups. If they survived solely due to an adult's logic skill, then they still had to virus check roll at the next age up. I also had to age up a teenager to YA near the end to keep playing but shhhhh. It was a super fun challenge thanks, and I'm really excited to see your next challenges :lovestruc |
you know then I first played this I thought you could buy tables XD about 5 months later I realize that it was to look at the values now I can't help but laugh when I think about it now. I had plenty of lovely tables to sacrifice for times the days demanded though lol.

So, I have played the entire series of Doomsday Challenges within two towns - or rather, two versions of the same town that I change as time goes on in the challenges. At the time I began, I only had two towns, so I started this series out in Twinbrook. I started with a fairly large family: Parents, Teenager, Child and twin Toddlers. By day thirty, the mom and child were dead from T12, and the rest of the house was lucky to have survived thus far, as I was playing with no immunity. At day zero, the father was gone as well, as the original toddlers were aging into young adults, and the teenager was halfway through her adult years..... Perfect timing to go through Part 2! The female twin became my doctor, and the male was set aside until I could begin part 4. I edited my original Twinbrook town so that it fit the bill for both part 2 and part 3, with the only lots being the special houses, specified community lots, and the CIU, as well as several empty lots where I had the "holding units" for the incoming patients. In part 2, the original teenager (Her name is Gina) was my test trial, and the first one to make it through the CIU. I proceeded to hold Gina back as we admitted 6 more patients, waiting until a male of suitable age was able to be paired with her after passing through, and then they were placed in their new home lot! I did this for all my patients, assuming that, since you state that Iso-Corp would want to control the gene pool, they would want to pair single patients before admitting them into their new safe towns. I had a lot of fun with part 2, and was eager to start part three with Gina! I had to use a youth potion on her to bring her down to the correct age, but that was fine, and I once again managed to have a really fun time with her - and barely made it!! She had a long and relatively happy life~ Then, the eagerly awaited part 4 could begin.... Kilorn (named after a book character XD) wasn't a genius like his sister, but where he lacked in her great control of logic, he certainly made up for in his athletic ability - and his cruelty. Obviously I played the crime lord path - AND I LOVED IT!!! Story wise, he was in the original town of Twinbrook, where his sisters had moved to the Iso-Corp controlled version of their town. People on the outside of their settlement called the two towns "The Twins" and referred to them as either the evil twin or the iso-twin -- there was no good in this world anymore.... You've done an awesome job, Misty, even if you don't check this board anymore. I had a lot of fun at being able to play through your series with my original family the whole way through. Many, many hours totally worthwhile.
|
So hyped for this right now xD
|
I know it was long ago, and stuff but you mentioned typos and I found one. On the general page you wrote "(saliva, blood, seaman, etc.) " It's actually semen, but I guess you know it by now.
|
Ik it's been six years but is it possible to do both the sheriff and crime lord routes but just alternating? I love both routes and can't choose
