Concept:
Ever feel the need to travel to a unique place? Would you like to create your very own vacation spot? Well here's your chance! There will be 4 rounds.

Application
Just say you want a spot Put Wanderlust in a sentence in your post. First come, first serve. Since this is open to all skill levels, I realize not everyone has proof of qualifications. This is a beginner's contest, so just say you want to join. Don't forget the codeword

Rules and Requirements:
This is for Sims 2 only, Base game on up. Custom content is allowed. Each round will last 2 weeks. No eliminations. A limit of 12 applicants. First come, first serve. If for some reason, I miss one, I will allow a special add on. The following is a description of what lots are going to be built, and in what style, and what order. Just a note: While this contest is based on Bon Voyage, it isn't limited to Bon Voyage players. There is no bonus for custom content free, so if other players from base game onward want to play, they aren't penalized for having to get custom content to make any of the following lot types which is a description of what lots are going to be built, in what style, and what order. Also players of all skill levels welcome

1. A food lot/restaurant style lot.
2. An entertainment style lot. This could be a bar, a dance club, or a theater or anything else you can dream up.
3. A vacation home. A hotel could be built instead, if you have Bon Voyage and is an allowed substitute.
4. A location that represents that particular cultural/geographical location well. It should be unique to the theme.(for instance a beach would be a good choice for tropical, a shrine would be another good example).

Along with the lot types, you also have to use 1 of the 4 following themes. 1 per lot type.
1. Tropical
2. Eastern
3. Mountain/Country
4. Desert

You may use any of the themes with any of the lot types ONCE. You cannot have two restaurants, and two tropical locations for instance. If you do tropical when we do restaurants, you will have to use one of the others for your entertainment style lot.
The lots, in the order they are to be done, are as follows:

1. Restaurant/food lot (not necessarily a restaurant that is an example) 80,000 2x3 or 3x2
2.Entertainment lot/bar (example) 100,000 and 3x4 or 4x3
3.Vacation home/hotel 3x3 lot 150,000
4. Unique, activities style lot unique to that culture/geographical location. Can be any size, any budget, any type, as long as it matches the theme you have left to use, and is unique to that location.
The size and budget for each of the others will be given at the beginning of each round.

Scoring:
The build is judged on decor(both inside and outside), playability, uniqueness, build quality, how well it matches the theme, and budget.

Decor: Inside and outside together are 5 points.
Playability: 5 points
Uniqueness: 5 points
Build Quality: 5 points
Theme Correlation: 5 points
Budget: 5 points

For a total of 30 points for each round per judge.

Judges: There will be 3 judges. Kukamuukaanmuka will be the emergency judge if we need one. The judges are:

Picture Rules:
All images must meet MTS screenshot guidelines.
All but the first image must be placed under [ SPOILER ] tags.
You may edit your pictures up until the deadline.
Each round requires:
1 shot showing the front.
1 shot showing the back
1 shot showing the price. (If you have the needed EP simply show the price on the lot.)
1 shot of each floor plan as close as you can. That not only means each floor, but each building on the lot as well.

You are allowed another 10 extra photos to show off your lot to its best advantage. So 14 shots total. If your house has a second story that is a second floor plan shot making 15 pictures. You don't have to do this many but you can if you want to.

Clarification on themes
Some of the judges and contestants wanted clarification I wanted to point out, for instance, while I originally thought Oriental Iike Bon Voyage, there really is no reason Middle Eastern/Moroccan for example couldn't fit in either Eastern or Desert. Desert doesn't mean just Southwestern U.S. either it could be the Sahara for that matter. Tropical just means literally any kind of tropical from island paradises to jungles. Same with Country. It doesn't have to be American country, it just means a rural setting. I included mountain, as that is what Bon Voyage calls it. So rural or mountainous works fine

OK. I want to do this. I have the Wanderlust. My Twikkii needs a nightclub, so why not? I have a question though, when is round 1 due? Is the 60,000 Simoleon/ 2x3 lot size the requirement and is the 2x3 count either orientation of that size?

Yes either way will work (2x3 or 3x2) and 60,000 is the upper limit I will list you as far as when it is due, I will officially start the countdown when we have our participants, or in a week, whichever comes first.

So hopefully I won't have Wanderlust then. And can I have a spot?

This time I swear I'm gonna stick til the very end. I have a Wanderlust!

I recently started a BACC on a small island and I wanted it to look as if it is a vacation hood. All my playables are the locals, and all the townies will be the tourists.
Anyways I just finished the Mayor's house this morning. The rest of the island is empty and this is going to be the perfect opportunity to get my head cracking at a tight schedule!

P.S.**I was gonna upload the lot on MTS for download but my gazebo roof is pay content. Is pay content from booty allowed in the contest?**

gdayars, stick me in the play along. I'm currently living bedside with my bff in the hospital, and have been for the last month. I'd love a distraction like a build contest to work on while I'm here, but I can't commit to being on time because of all the stuff happening here with no notice. And simming on my laptop rather than my regular machine will make it extra fun (so not, and no CC! sad!). Btw, wanderlust is such a weird word.

That's not how the poem goes, though. It's "I wandered lonely as a cloud." And the title is "Daffodils."

Wanderlust is a noun, not a verb - the desire to wander. Not weird at all, just a good old Germanic combination.

Part of me wants to join this and part of me says, No, you're just now feeling better and getting productive, you don't need to overload your plate. So I guess I better not. Maybe I'll do a play-along.

ETA: Oh, and very sorry to hear you're doing bedside living right now, Phaenoh! Health crap sucks and severe health crap sucks just as much for the caretaker as for the direct sufferer! If it's going to be awhile, get a cot in the room - my back was bad for months from hospital chairs even after the Year from Hell was over.

Rule clarification... if we use CC (which I'm eternally grateful for being able to use!) How is the budget going to be affected? IE: most CC wallpaper is $1!

I've decided to play along to indulge my wanderlust. We'll see if I can make this laptop go up in smoke like my desktop. Oh well!

I'd like to get in on the Wanderlust if I may. I'm not much of a builder, and have never done a build contest before, but practice is how we get better, right?

As far as the CC goes, Cat, everyone can have cheap custom content, so with that amount of money, I fully expect awesome creations Also it is a beginners are included contest so it makes it a bit easier for beginners.

Charmful, as soon as kerri and suzanne supply their missing code word it will be full I am still looking for another judge, but after they supply their code words, we will start the timer, and everyone can start uploading

This will be amazing and fun.... I am so looking forward ti checking out all of the builds!

I will try to give some play along comments as well. The main aim is to improve and have fun. So don't think of it as being judged but rather mentored and encouraged.

Gummi has agreed to judge. She has been out and didn't realize the contest had started. She had agreed to before, but things have been interesting. She will be on later to do her official application However if anyone else comes along, we can always have more emergency judges... Nothing like not having to do it myself :P

I would like to judge I have several lot uploads, some of which sort of fit into the theme of this contest.
- Mitra vacation home, based on Saturnfly's The Mitra
- Funtopia water land, an entertainment community lot in a tropical style
- Sunnyside mall, a mall with a restaurant and entertainment, loosely based on a real mall I used to go to in Sevilla, southern Spain

I love to travel, and Bon Voyage is one of my favorite expansion packs, so I say, bring it Wanderlust! Can't wait to see what you guys all create for this contest

@gummilutt you are added and @broomhilda61 for the first round you build 1. Restaurant/food lot (not necessarily a restaurant that is an example) 60,000 2x3 it can also be 3x2. You have to pick one theme for each lot type, from the following: tropical, mountain/country, eastern, or desert. Once you choose one for each type of lot, you cannot repeat that theme. Your goal is to build it as closely as possible to theme, and to type, but still show as much uniqueness and build quality as you can. Decor and playability count as well Be careful to stay under budget, and look at the picture rules!

For those that are unsure, the first round is 1. A food lot/restaurant style lot. Then pick an area: 1 Tropical, 2. Eastern,3 Mountain/Country, 4. Desert. (you can only pick an area once) Round one must be on a 2 by 3 lot size and you have up to $60,000 to spend.

Eastern/Asian You don't need BV, it can all be cc. I would suggest going with the area that you like the best first, but maybe going with the one you are least sure of might be good to get it out the way. So you pick Eastern go google Asian decorating and Asian restaurant to get some ideas. Look up Asian CC since that might spark more ideas.

I would like to do the play-along, please, if that's still available.

Eastern is Oriental (I suppose it could be middle Eastern as well since I didn't specify)

it doesn't have to be in a vacation hood, just something you would be apt to see if you went on vacation there so think along the lines of an Oriental restaurant. I really was trying to leave it somewhat open for interpretation, as I was hoping for some great creativity to emerge

The road adds 10 tiles to the lot info button, so the game will say 30 by 30 which means the lot is actually 2 by 3.

The easiest Way is hover your mouse over the empty lots in game, it will tell you. :D

which means the other size allowed is probably the 40 by 20 or whatever. and ok @kerri191 I am adding you

40x20 would be right if the short side is the front. 30x30 would be for long side front

...or maybe visa versa but still should be right for one of the allowed versions...I think...but now I've confused myself, lol

gdayars, usually play alongs aren't scored, was that just a copy/paste oversight when you added the second table, or is that a feature of this contest? I'd honestly rather not be scored, judging is such time consuming work and I don't want to make more work for them when I'm not a fully committed contestant.

Oh sorry @Phaenoh there won't be scores in the play alongs that is just a place to put smiley faces I have not had a chance to clean it up as there will be no totals or actual points I just copied and pasted over til I had time.

Welcome, wanderlusters, to Takemizu Villiage. Wanderlust Inc. is proud to reveal a new dining experience in the region - a tea house and sushi lounge! The property contains two structures, on the left is a tea house that contains three tea rooms that overlook a beautiful pond and across from it, on the right is the sushi lounge, an intimate place to discover the tastes of Takemizu's culinary specialties.

OMGosh..I had to scroll really fast with that first entry..I don't like looking at entries until I have mine in..this way I am not influenced in any way shape or form..

I think the lot size in the bin is correct - it is when you use the Lot adjuster to change the size that it may not look right (guess who lost points due to that in a previous contest ).

OK now we're started, questions:

Can we use hood deco as part of the presentation? I mean things like the skydomes and Voeille's water mod. And trees obviously and anything else (I have an extensive collection)

For the shots, can sims be present in the pictures? I'm thinking of pictures taken on a test lot

Is use of the magic wand permissible or does price have to be straight out of the catalogue? This is problematic since it can make quite a difference but the other thing is I've altered so much of my CC (because it was ridiculously priced) including most wallpapers I download - in my case, if they come at $1, I alter them upwards.

Can I use a beach lot for tropical and what size would I use?

No magic wand. I mean the contest at it's heart is already pretty cheat.Isnt that a bit over the top? It isn't decor. It doesn't make things prettier. It is just cheaty.

CC is allowed. That means sky domes. They are a form of decor. While in practice, I realize this won't be totally true, in theory the build itself should be the only consideration. I realize tho that a tropical location would probably be heightened by the proper looking sky. As far as water mods, most will probably already have those, and again CC is allowed. Basically same thing as sky domes. I will encourage judges to pretend those things aren't present.

Just realized the question about tropical lots... There will be one time you can use a beach lot, the last one. I had to keep it base game friendly and base game doesn't have beach lots. The last one is lot size free. The rest have specific sizes.

Edited to add, it isn't beach lots that are bad, I just needed sizes that were possible for base game people. 2x3 and 3x2 are same size turned differently so I allowed either one. The custom beach lots down below have sizes that fit in, and are allowable.

Oh - shame about the beach lot. Not sure I want to change what I was planning. I'll give it some thought and let you know.

Oh OK - you seemed to be saying only the last round could use a beach lot but what you meant was that the in-game versions are too big. I'll have a look at those.

Charmful man, damn. Now I lost my courage if I even had one. I realize I need to go with another type of eating place than the one I wanted to do cause all the old type furniture is expensive as hell, So I won't be able to do a Kro (It's basically a pub but bigger and it fills a whole house instead of a corner...)
IDK what to even do since I have to replan the whole thing and do something else -n-/ But hey, I have what? a week or two right?

Ahh, sorry I kind of jumped in all gung-ho but please do not get discouraged! And while I'm a stickler on myself for presentation, the fact is, my 'technical building' is pretty mediocre. I just make up for it with landscaping and interior decorating. I hope you can find a place to build, and maybe if the furniture is too expensive, you could search for any alternates that were cheaper and invoked the same kind of feel? And if not, you do have like 2 weeks to be inspired and build another kind of place

@Charmful don't worry, I think I have something but it feels so mediocre anyway even though I did it cheaper than last. I of cause forgot to open fraps ._______.
