[OUTDATED] Changing Lot size after building and/or playing (Archived)

EDIT (by MTS2 Staff)
Unfortunately, as some of you already know, Andi8104 has prematurely deceased, and therefore the LotExpander is no more supported by him.
Luckily, some skillful users, Sorcerer and Mootilda, decided to continue developing this project.

The last (outdated) version released by Andi it attached to this post, and works with any game up to OFB included.

The current "latest version" is the Lot Expander by Mootilda; read the additional info and game compatibility at Mootilda's thread.

In any case keep in mind that the Lot Expander (any version) can break your lots, and damage you neighborhoods; therefore, if you don't make a backup of your neighborhood and suffer damages due to a (mis)usage of the Lot Expander, don't blame anyone but yourself

--------------------------------------------------------
(Original post by Andi8104)

First of all: sorry for my bad English. And at all the developers of you: sorry for the terrible coding.

Release 1.2.1:

A few bug fixes for the 'over the road' option.
E.g. the problem with the portals reported by Numenor is fixed.

Release 1.2:

Some bugs are fixed:

The problem with the 'flying' roofs, reported by TheCoffeeBear is solved now.

Sometimes there where some locked tiles on extended lots, so you can't build on it. This is fixed now.

Sometimes your Sims was buried or stick into walls after enlarging. This problem is not really fixed (The OBJT resources of the Sims are too complex for me, I think), but it is now easier to solve it. Just break up the actually action of such Sims and wait a few seconds. Now they were normally playable.

New Features:

You'll find a new Checkbox:

Checking it will bring you the following message, witch explains the functionality:

Now you also can choose the Next button without changing a value:

Release 1.1:
Now you can choose the direction of enlarging the lot.

Release 1.0:
I've written a little program to enlarge lots after building/playing:

LotExpander

It allows you to expand lots up to size 6 x 6 with a few mouse clicks (see pictures below). You can change both, Width and Height, in one Cycle. LotExpander offers English and German language GUI. You do no longer need SimPE or my Word macro for enlarging Lot. The problem described in post #8 is solved.

You need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to run LotExpander!

The program is using some DLLs from SimPE (included in Setup).
Big thanks for Quaxi for this and his whole work for the community!

LotExpander is released under GPL
You also can get the source code here.

Small Lots:
In attachment of this Post you'll find a complete set of Nx1 residential lots (N = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
These Lots are created with base game, so they will work with or without any EP.
If you are interested on Nx1 community lots, have a look at this post from MaryLou: #100
Moreover, there are some 1xN residential lots by Nightguy82 at Post #339
Now everyone can create lots of his/her wish size with LotExpander.
Operating System: Windows
Utility Type: Save Editors
Plugin Type: Not Applicable

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Hi, I got a question about the lotexpander hack. I'm using the 1.2.2 version, which is supposed to be compatible with the Seasons expansion (I have all the ep and sp there is out the market). However, when I use it to increase the size of a 5x5 lot to 6x6, a error occurred, saying that:

"Source array was not long enough. Check srcIndex and length, and the array's lower bounds."

And when I enter the game again, the lot is expanded with strips of blue and unusable tiles. How do I fix that? Thanks in advance for the replies.
Here's the detailed version of the error message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

I have the same problem as a Tower and some other people with the lot going kind of blueish after you expand it. Is there a way to return it to it's normal size so it doesn't do that?

Default Same problem here
I'm getting the same long error message that the last few posts have gotten. I have .NET 2.0, the latest version of SimPE. I was using the version of the LotExpander for the Seasons expansion (I have all the eps), but was trying to edit Pleasantview. Again, the same error happens, and the expanded parts of the lot turn black and are not accessible.

Still no fix for this?

Also:

What exactly does this mean? How can I enable JIT debugging? Is it a separate program? Will that fix my problem?

Thanks in advance.

For all of you that asked a question:

If you read the message from the top of the screen, you woud notice it says:

Unfortunately, as some of you already know, Andi8104 has prematurely deceased, and therefore the LotExpander is no more supported by him.

There won't be anymore updates or anwers, ovbiously.

This is a very nice program, and I am really glad Andi was able to do this.

This last version isn't being developed by Andi anymore. According to the staff message, Sorcerer is the one in charge of the updates nowadays. So there's still hope for updates.

Anyways, i'm having the same array error the other guys were getting. I wonder if there is anything i could do about it.

It's still highly recommended to use Andi's last version of this programme under at best EP3 OFB or probably below it.
May use Numenor's BGS to start the earlier game versions.
http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=107015

After all, Numenor's BGS is best used in English version of the windows.

Default Andi's idea was good, and in fact his lot ideas worked.

Tucsoncoyote here (and yes I haven't posted in a while).

I will say that Andi was a great guy for this, and it's sad that he passed away, and in fact I noted that he had created different sized lots, but then someone just recently on this thread showed some 'L' Shaped lots.. of course Andi (and no one else as well), Has created L shaped blank lots for Commercial/Residential use..

So maybe that is something to shoot for. Blank L shaped lots..

But if anyone would use Lot expander maybe those corner lots could be placable..

Just a thought..

Tucsoncoyote--Idea guy..

P.S. I tried 1.22 and it did what others have siad and posted.. so maybe we need some programming talent in here.. (Hmmm whom to call..)

PPS Also how on earth did they make L shaped corner lots ?

is it possible to make 1x2 , 1x3, 1x4, 1x5, 1x6?

i see Andi8104 made 1x1, 2x1, 3x1, 4x1, 5x1, 6x1

From what I've read about it, one just places a lot at one side of a right-angled corner road, then expands the lot with the expander or in a manual way with all those hints Andi had left.

Yes, you can use andi's 1x1 to expand it into these various sizes except 1x6 which is actually 10x70. So far, a known limit of a lot page size is 64x64. Yet, it's unsure if that is practically alterable (without serious instability and file data corruption). Even if it's usably changeable, it's quite likely to mean a lot of works.

I've recently had computer problems and haven't check this thread in a long time. I'm Very sad to hear of andi8104's passing. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Rest in Peace.

I will try this program again. I've recently added Seasons but now I'm on a new machine and starting over, so I'm not too sure how it will function. I've made things like corner lots from the 1 x 1 lots in the past with at least OFB loaded following the examples from Max3D's posts, users should check the early posts if the program functions and they want to do this.

SimBud,

The version 1.2.1 is still the most stable version, but it works best and most stably up to EP3 OFB. Newer attempts are still in "error-prone" experimental stages, but surely welcome to try with your experimental settings.

With Numenor's BGS, http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=107015,
Users with EP higher than EP3 OFB can switch back to prepare the lots in EP3 or lower EP neighbourhood to prepare the lots.
But, I'm unsure ifone can easily add that to the newer EPs.
But, I'd try lot file replacement with an appropriate one.

Users with EP higher than EP3 OFB can switch back to prepare the lots in EP3 or lower EP neighbourhood to prepare the lots.
But, I'm unsure ifone can easily add that to the newer EPs.
But, I'd try lot file replacement with an appropriate one.

I can easily switch back to OFB or lower since I've just re-loaded on a new machine. [edit: Thank you for that linkpointing out the basegame starter, the basegame starter looks like a much easier way to accomplish new lot configuring. I think I will install that and try it out.]The lots I created in my earlier set-up did continue to work after I expanded past OFB, but I did not try new lot expansions. That much I can tell you should work for everyone up to seasons. I did not try to place any in the newer 'seasons' neighborhood, though. I was creating my own instead.

Two things my most recent visits to this thread should make abundantly clear to everyone, especially gamers who use these great freebies that the creators here share with us. The lesser important one is to back up any files you want saved on external hard drives or to disc. If you lost your system and files, you'll be glad you did ( I had some saved, not all). The most important is what I did on my initial post in this thread months ago, thank the person whose time and effort has made your gaming experience fuller and more fun as soon as you get the chance. You never know how long the person will be with us.

First and foremost, let me say it is always a shame to lose any talented person. And we will miss Andi more than most. But there is apparently at least one child and some ingenious contributions to a staggering body of work, that will survive the passing. Which is more than most of us get.

To save myself the trouble of having to rebuild my house. I had been canvassing on various Simsites, for a way to expand lot sizes, after a house has been built on it. Comming across the LotExpander seemed like a godsend at first. But I wanted a couple of questions answered before I DL'd it.

1) Is LotExpander like SimPE and Milkshape, in that it stands alone and acts on the game from outside the game?
2) Where exactly should I download it to? Should LotExpander simply be put into my EA Games download folder, like all the rest of my custom content, or..
3) Should I not use Q-Xpress?

Finally, the more I read about the bugs still infesting even the Seasons version updated by Sorcerer, the more I believe that the better part of valor, will actually have to be the laborious process of rebuilding my house on a larger lot.

I'm only laughing on the outside
My smile is just skin deep
If you could see inside, I'm really crying
You might join me for a weep

2. answered in 1.
3. LotExpanderSetup 1.2.1.zip is the programme installation file.

Any plans to allow making existing lots smaller? On occasion I've found myself using a 2x3 or 4x4 lot to build, but in my creative playing found myself creating smaller lots, forcing me basically to either leave the extra space empty, or add clutter. It would be nice to simply resize 2x3 to 1x2 or whatever my new needs are.

has anyone came up with a sure way to expand the lot if you have all expansion packs installed?

The safest way, so far, is the one suggested by Niol, in post #343 above.

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.

As for lot size reduction,

Quote:
Lol, reducing lot size is still at an experimental state for all I know. So, only do that for experiments and the resultant lot may not be advised to re-use for normal usages unless it shows "as-if" no problem after observations and probably tests.

Manually to reduce lot size is just the same process to increase a lot size only with the values reduced instead of enlarged. May just check out how andi made 1x1 lot and apply that with your desired lot size values to experiment.

Some known potential problems one may face:
1. portal may be accidentally trimmed away.
2. objects including sims and others may be accidentally trimmed away and this may lead to data loss or corruption and this may inturn cause further data loss or corruption when the lot is used with other custom game data.
These are due to the fact that there hasn't been sufficient amount of published infos about how the portal and objects are sorted.

I personally have not tried to reduce a lot size yet, so I can't give you any beforehand experience.
