This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
This is a featured upload! It showcases the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
When I was a little girl, I had a lovely single bed and dresser made by Ethan Allen that had belonged to my grandmother. When I got older, my parents found a matching bed and nightstand to add to the set. The nightstand was lost in a move, but my daughter now sleeps in one of the beds and I still use the dresser.

I've been unable to find a similar set for The Sims 2, so I've spent the past three months creating a full bedroom set based on my beloved furniture.

---

1/14/09: If you have experienced the 'Exploding bedding' bug with the beddings from this set, or if the beddings have just shown up as solid white for you, please try replacing them with the alternative versions I have added and let me know whether this fixes the problem. I cannot reproduce the problem and have no way to test them myself, so I am counting on downloaders to let me know!

If you have not experienced this bug, there is no need to download the 'NoShine' beddings.

---

This set includes twenty new objects:

- Single Bed <-- Comfort rating 7, Energy 6 (for real!!) This is a repository object and is required for the set to function! To recolor the primary wood texture for the set, recolor this object.
- Double Bed <-- Comfort rating 7, Energy 6 (for real!!)
- Nightstand
- Tall Dresser
- Low Dresser - Plain <-- This object can be used alone or with either of the wall mirrors. If the mirror is set against a wall, the moveObjects cheat is not needed. Otherwise you must turn the cheat on to position the mirror on the dresser.
- Low Dresser
- Floor Mirror
- Wall Mirror <-- This is a repository object and is required for the trim on all the mirrors and pictures in the set to function! To recolor the trim on the mirrors and pictures, recolor this item.
- Wall Mirror Plain <--This is included for the sake of completeness. The dresser I actually own has a mirror like this one.
- Vanity
- Painting <-- Designed to hang over the double bed.
- Square Glass Ceiling Lamp
- Table Lamp <-- Sits on all the dressers and the vanity as well as the nightstand!
- Short Maxis-bedding-match curtains for single and double windows (includes diagonal meshes)
- Headboard Lamps (L and R) <-- Can be placed on either bed for reading!
- Decorative Huggy Bear, Picture Frame and OCR Ribbons Bowl <-- Just a few random shinies to put in those nifty slots.

Also included are ten or so recolors of the various items in the set, three bedding recolors based on bedding I own (curtains will also pick up the textures!) and a collection file, which should be placed in your Collections folder. All files have been squished with jfade's Compressorizer.

---

Compatibility: This set *requires Numenor's CEP*. Get It Here

- The entire set should work with any EP from Pets through Apartment Life.
- Thanks to Lord Darcy's expert assistance, base game-compatible versions of the beds and mirrors are included. This makes the bulk of the set usable with the base game through OFB, with the following exceptions:

- Table lamp, double curtains and headboard lamps require NL or higher.
- The two low dressers require OFB or higher.
- The vanity requires at least one EP installed.

IMPORTANT: If you do not have Pets or a later EP installed, you must use the base-game versions of the beds and mirrors included in the separate .rar file. USE ONLY ONE VERSION OF EACH OBJECT.
Please report any issues you may encounter.

---

Poly Counts: Due to the large number of curved surfaces, several of these meshes (particularly the single bed) are fairly high-poly objects. Please forgive; I did try to keep them down as much as possible without losing an unacceptable amount of detail.

---

Recoloring:

- The Single Bed and Wall Mirror (the decorated, not the plain one) are both repository objects and are needed in order to recolor the other objects AND for the rest of the set to function!
- Due to inherent Maxis limitations, the painting, the photo and the vanity stool cushion *can* be recolored, but in order to do so you must make a full recolor of the single bed texture.
- For similar reasons, only some of the brass accents are recolorable, so it's probably better not to change them when making recolors. Sorry :/
- The table and ceiling lamps, the teddy bear and the decorative bowl are independently recolorable.
- Headboard lamps draw their recolors from the Maxis "Watt Is This" table lamp and will pick up any recolors of that lamp.
- The curtain fabric and ties draw their textures from the Colonial Ironwood Bed (the standard Maxis bedding) and the curtain rod and tassles, from the Cornerstone Victoriana Velvet Drapes. The curtains will pick up recolors of either of these items.

nengi65 at Sims Crossing has made a nice white recolor of this set:

---

Slots:

- Thanks once again to the help of the generous and talented Lord Darcy (http://modthesims2.com/member.php?u=159869), all three dressers in the set have three fully-functional slots on top. Thank you Lord Darcy, you're my hero!
- The vanity includes SIX usable slots! (Press M to move objects around between them. Only very small objects will look right in the two bottom ones.)
- Nightstand now includes three slots.
- Headboards on both beds include two slots each.

---

Known Issues:

- The animations on the dressers do not closely match the handles; if anyone knows how to fix this and would like to take a stab at it, please do! I'd be very glad to give you credit and a link to your site or profile.
- When using a wall mirror with the low dresser, there is very slight clippage when using the 'Gussy Up' interaction. Not too noticeable.
- Slight problem with the drawer shadow on the fancy low dresser. Not sure how to fix this; any advice would be appreciated.
- Minor glitch with the vanity mirror reflection when viewed diagonally from the far left or right.

---

My Policy:

- Recolor all you like, using my textures or your own; just please do keep it tasteful. Credit and a link would be appreciated.
- I welcome any helpful additions, fixes or enhacements from other modders and would happily share credit, but please upload them to this thread and none other.
- Please don't upload my work anywhere else without my permission.
- Do not upload recolors to pay sites.

Excellent set, well-executed. Like many here, I have similar furniture, and your rendition is beautiful. Following is a playtest report:

Game setup: TS2, Uni, NL, and OFB, all patched.

The base game beds and mirrors all work fine. All the other furniture pieces show up and work without a glitch. All recolors work. I'm glad to see the beds actually do have comfort/energy levels matching what the catalogue entry says. Many custom beds do not.

There are two problems. The table lamps and recolors do not work in this setup. All four show as solid purple. Placing and then clicking to recolor does not work, either.

The bedding also does not show up. All three recolors are solid white in this setup. I wonder if bedding as well as beds have to be tailored to pre-and-post Pets configurations?

Other than these problems, this is one custom set that works fine (for a change) in this primitive game configuration. Many thanks.

Now, how about the living room?

I can't wait to see this in my game! You did an amazing job on this set. My mother had the nightstands and a single bed from EA, they look very similar to these, except white. I've always loved that furniture, and wish I could find it again.

Thank you so much, you obviously put quite a bit of effort into this!

Thanks for the detailed report, and I'm glad most of the items work well for you!

Fixing the comfort and energy levels in beds is a bit tricky; the levels reported in the catalog description and the actual code that governs the bed's behavior are stored in two different places in the file, so it's an easy mistake to make. I did my best to avoid as many of those little pitfalls as I possibly could, so it's really nice to see that people have noticed. :D

Re. the table lamp and beddings, I was aware of the purple-texture problem but had thought it only occured with pre-NL installations. I loaded them all up with Numenor's BaseGameStarter to double-check, and they all seem to work fine for me in a configuration similar to yours, so I'm not sure what could be the problem. Do you have the latest CEP installed?

As far as the living room goes...we'll see. I do have some 'extras' I want to put together for the bedroom set, but I don't have any actual objects to use as a template for other types of furniture; it would all be guesswork, unless I can manage to track down some pictures (which I was unable to do with the bedroom set. The vanity and floor mirror I pretty much just made up to match as best I could.)

Updated playtest report:

I installed Seasons and Freetime the other day, and put th lamps and bedding back in (and changed the beds and mirrors over), and everything works perfectly. The lights do still show the purple texture in the catalogue, but when they are placed they show as they should. This was not the case in the previous installation.

The three beddings were pure white and "exploded" in the previous installation, but are now as they should be. I don't know what caused either problem. The CEP has not been changed, so it wasn't that. Possibly just one of those gremlins that show up from time to time as a peculiarity of some hardware configuration? Or, though I hesitate to say it, maybe Numenor's BaseGameStarter doesn't quite match my hardware. I've had problems with other sets that work fine for their creators in the BaseGameStarter but still didn't work in my configuration, including, e.g., Adele's sets (which now work just beautifully, hooray!). It is a very weird thing, but now that I have these new EPs, perhaps my troubles are over. Well, until people start putting out lots of AL-specific stuff.

We used to have a big old vinyl and wood recliner by Ethan Allen, and still have an end table by them. And a dining room set as well -- my mother was crazy about their furniture, although she never did get the cobbler's bench or dry sink she wanted. Be nice to have pieces like that in the Sims...

Thanks for the update! Oooh, the beddings asploded before? I bet I know the problem...the Material Definition probably has a setting the game didn't like. If I get many other reports of the same thing happening I'll see if I can fix that, but since it seems to be working for you right now I am going to be lazy and put it off, at least until after the holidays.

You can refresh the catalog thumbnail by pressing CTRL while right-clicking on the thumbnail, btw. I'm still baffled as to what caused the purple texture problem, but I'm glad to hear that has also been resolved.

I hunted around and did manage to find some suitable pictures of living room furniture I can use as guidelines. Turns out I should have been searching for "traditional" rather than "colonial" furniture. With any luck I should eventually have at least a few more pieces to add.

Thanks again for the feedback, and I hope you're enjoying the holidays!

I tested your set and had no problems with the bedding or lamps.. I wonder if the items just didn't download properly for the other user. There's no reason for bedding to work in some expansions and not others. The lamps.. I'm not sure how to explain. The only problem I did have is this:

Well, the lamps were a known issue, just not one I expected with that particular game configuration. I have heard of one other case of exploding bedding; apparently certain settings in the Material Definition can disagree with certain video cards.

I've had similar issues with the picture frame icon; try holding down the shift key and right-clicking the image and see if that fixes it. If not, my apologies; I'm not sure how to fix it. It shouldn't affect the frame in gameplay.

Congrats on your Feature. I'm glad I could be of help to your beautiful set.

About the picture frame icon problem: Look into the SHPE of picture frame to fix this issue. There was a mistake in TXMT of frame subset.
