Both the "More" and "Less" hacks conflict with Windkeeper's "Locked Tile Fix". If you want the objects to be placed both on the OFB shelves and on the locked tiles, please download the "More+LockedTiles" or the "Less+LockedTiles" hacks, attached to this post. And read Windkeeper's original thread for info about the Locked Tiles!
As usual, you can have only ONE of the four versions in your game (that's why all these hacks have the same filename).

KNOWN MAXIS BUG: it has been reported by many users that sometimes - when a customer buys the item, or when your sims restock the shelves - the restock sign is misplaced (it will appear at a corner of the lot).
This happens more frequently if you use any of these hacks (the "More" version makes the bug occur more frequently than the "Less" version).
But the "restock sign misplacing" bug has been reported also by users that did NOT install these hacks. From the reports that I've collected, there is a Maxis bug that causes the restock signs to be "teleported" to a corner of your lot, especially if you:
  • place the objects using the move_objects cheat;
  • move or remove the restocks signs using the normal "hand" tool (you should use the "hand" only in Business Build Mode, i.e. selecting the "price tag" icon in the top-right panel);

You may have noticed that the shelves and shop displays that came with Open For Business can hold only Maxis objects, and that - on the contrary - no custom-created objects are allowed on them.

This problem can be solved by installing the provided global hack.

WARNING: THIS IS A GLOBAL HACK (i.e. it affects all the objects in all the lots), and therefore IT MUST BE USED WITH CAUTION, just like any other global hack. Also, it may be included in your exported lots.

What does this hack do?
It changes on the fly a particular value in the Object Data of all the objects picked from the catalog (no permanent changes are made to the objects or to the packages), setting them as "placeable on shop shelves".
Once installed, you'll be able to place custom objects on all business shelves, including the "Magicsplay" that is used on the counters.
This hack works with all the existing custom objects, and all the future cloned object, too.

CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE VERSION!
  • The "MORE" version lets you place on the shelves more objects than Maxis decided; sometimes, the objects can just look too "crowded": in this case, you can fill completely the shelf and then remove the unwanted items.

  • The "LESS" version keeps the original Maxis settings for the objects (Maxis seems to like half empty shelves ): the shelves will look definitely less "overcrowded.
You can obviously have only one version in your Downloads folder! (both packages have the same name, so it would be hard to keep both, lol! )


Installation / Uninstallation
Extract the file "Numenor_GlobalHack_OFB_Custom-objects-placeable-on-shelves.package" from the chosen zip ("more" or "Less"), and place it in the Downloads folder. Remove it from the Downloads to restore the original situation.

Technical explanation
Maxis started to use a previously unused data field in the Object Data: the data field 0x004F [Unused - Shadow Brightness (Sims1)]. I've noticed that almost all the existing objects, before OFB, had this field set to zero or 0x96; while in OFB the objects have a value of 0x2 (small objects), 0x1 (medium objects) and 0x00 (large objects).
I've edited the global 0x010F "Init - Object" BHAV (that - in my experience - is called from *all* the objects init BHAV), appending the following line:
"0x0002 (Expression) - Stack Object's Master definition 0x004F Set to Literal 0x0002". This line overrides the value stored in the Object Data field 0x004F, "replacing" it with the value 0x2 (which, in my tests, is the only one that allows placement on business shelves).
The "Less" version performs the said change only if the existing value is >2 (so to keep the Maxis setting, if existing).

Please report any oddity you may notice while using this hack. Open For Business is required (obviously )..

I'm no modder by any stretch but this appears to cause errors in pets. It works fine for placing objects but with testingcheatsenabled there are many errors with the mod in (causing pets to reset and sink into the ground) and with this mod removed the errors/resetting stops (testing done with this as the only custom content in game). Hopefully someone more adept than I am can look into it and fix if necessary. Numenor, let me know if you need an error log.

Here's the error log I'm getting consistently with this hack in game. After getting the error, I close without saving and go back to the same spot after removing the hack and do not have the error. Beyond that, it's all gobbleygook to me so I hope it's helpful to you. Thank you for looking into it!

KLGFCG, I'm sorry but I couldn't reproduce your error...
I've played for a long time in a lot, I've created also a shop where I have sold custom objects placed on the OFB shelves, and not a single time I had problems of resetting pets...

I've examined the log, but it's impossible to understand what causes the problem...

How does the conflict show up? The objects can't be placed any more on the shelves? Do you have errors, jump bugs and such?

The problem I'm having is if the shelfs run completely out of stuff then I stock it, I'm no longer to sell the items on the shelf, and any new shelfs created with custom stuff on it (stereos, game systems) aren't able to be sold, but I can place em on the shelf

Mmmhh... My mod only allows you to place the objects on the shelf (which you still are able to do); it doesn't concern the ability to sell them, once placed.

Reading you post, I see you mention two problems (correct me if I'm wrong):

1) You have a shelf full of custom content; you sell all the objects and then use the Restock option to restock the shelf; the objects are correctly restocked but can't be sold.

2) You place in the shop a new shelf, put custom objects on it, but these objects can't be sold.

As for problem 2, are you 100% sure that you are putting the objects for sale in the right way? I mean, you should first click on the little "lock" icon in the business panel (the catalog turns yellow) and then put the objects on the shelves.

As for problem 1, I'll try and reproduce the same situation in my game and will let you know.

I've tried, and I could NOT reproduce neither of the two problems in my all-EPs game; I have successfully placed on shelves and sold random custom objects; may it be a specific object that gives you troubles?

Thanks a LOT for this! This, plus the 'non-perishing food hack' are the only hacks I have got so far in my game, but it is superb! My L'International restaurant is now working perfectly, it is shockablock with downloaded fake food and the sales are soaring. No more flies and green smoke, no more staying up all night cooking food for the inventory. I have all expansion packs up to Seasons. If you have never put a hack in, and want to put Customized Content on selling displays, I can really, yeah, really, recommend this one.

I found the problem with the misplaced signs after downloading the Hansel and Gretel Bakery. The sign appeared on the far, right corner of the lot. I wasted a lot of time baking everything I could think of, trying to find the right items to restock. After checking my inventory, I saw that I could see exactly what was needed to restock the missing items, so I did so. All of this happened before I used the moveobjects cheat. I finally got the items deleted, but have been too busy to Sim, so I don't know how things worked out.
I going to try the less version f your hack (I admit that I have some fears, but a quick backup and I should feel better). Thanks in advance for the great work.

Default misplaced restock signs
after reading, well scanning, all 12 pages (whew), i thought i'd share what i do as a temp fix to the problem of how to get rid of the misplaced signs. i use jm pescado's stuck object remover at the maty site.

Yes, that hack - at least - nukes *all* the misplaced signs at once, instead of deleting them one by one using the testing cheats...
Too bad no one (including Maxis) still couldn't find a solution for the problem that *causes* the signs to be misplaced...

Low environment culprit found
I've enjoyed this hack for a long time, but now I have the Seasons expansion and found a problem. Inside the greenhouse the environment score is completely red, after extensive testing I've found this hack to be causing the problem and must now do without it. I will surely miss this hack, can it be updated for Seasons?

I'm so sorry I blamed your mod for the environment score, it doesn't seem to be the problem even though my tests seemed to prove it was. I'm going to put your hack back in because I users at MoreAwesomeThanYou said that sprinklers could break and cause zero environment. I didn't know sprinklers could break. The repair of the sprinklers cured the low environment scores. I came back to this thread just to say that the real environment murderer has been found. Case closed. Thanks for hacking, you are one of the greats.

I had a problem in my game with seasons, and after a long testing by taking out my downloads step-by-step, I found this mod to be the reason of it.

The problem: my sims, when sleeping in bed, get overheated. After some hours of sleeping, they get a heat stroke. I don't know what should be the relation to the placing of objects. But yes, the problem exists. But only with the MORE version. I tried the LESS version after discovering that, and it seems fine.

But I like the MORE version more, would be nice if you would be updating that.

Same as 1, but Password request didn't work

Mmmhh... I'll try taking a look at the overheating system used by the game, but it's quite complex, I'm afraid... What I don't understand is why the LESS mod works fine and the MORE one not: they basically act the same way...

Maybe, in the meantime, you could run some other tests, to see if the MORE mod is really to blame: I suggest using the BaseGameStarter to create a new game environment ("Up-to-SSN") and install in the Downloads only my mod.
