This is fantastic. I've been wanting to remove the speculars from just about everything since day one.

I second this. I'm having a blast with this! BEGONE EVIL SPECULARS!!! :D

The removal persists in the save and when exporting.

Wait, WHAT? Are you telling me ... there's a way to actually SAVE our fancy new stuffs? I'm going to try this and let you know if imports work!

Edit: On a side note, I'm also going to try your mod on EA's super shiny horses. The coat shine is caused by most of the tails, and while there are fixes for some of them it would be amazing if removing the specular or something worked here as well ...

WHAT?! It's for CAS too now?! Awesomesauce! Thank you! Too bad there's no menu option on a sim, a basic "remove stencils" but whatever, it's still amazing!

Thanks, this makes simplifying objects a lot easier, plus I won't have to download the same thing just without the stencil. You saved my hard disk from those excess downloads ^-^

@Rockerduck: I'm afraid it will not work on horse tails or manes since they're not CAStable.

Thank you for adding a CAS version too, that will also be very useful!

ETA: Just tried it out in CAS, and the ability to remove the specular from EA's clothes is a great achievement - now the clothes don't have to look so darned shiny and rubbery!

I rarely - if ever- comment on posts (usually just hit the thanks button) but this...
THIS....! Just amazing. I thought it wasn't possible to do since no one had before but here you are to prove us all wrong. And it works on CC?! Holy cr.. :D
Just when I'd seen this amazing kitchen with ugly stencils and decided it ruined evrything. Saved my week! Cheers!

awesome thx so much =)

I had to comment again 'cause V2 is just so awesome! I'm having a grand old time removing the specular from various clothing items and getting rid of the "rubber clothes" effect.

ETA: This mod makes the Diesel Stuff Pack actually usable! I hate how EA used that Photoshop/skin textures on all the clothes and furniture in this SP. But using "deco sopa" gets rid of most of the nastiness and now I can actually use this stuff. I seriously would have uninstalled this pack if it weren't for your mod!

OMG I am so excited! I can't wait to check out the new CASt feature. Thank you!

Update: I am rediscovering EA clothing. Most I couldn't really use because of the specular. But now, I can use darker colors and texture. This is so great!

I'm still so very delighted about your mod! YAY! *does happy ducky dance* I discover new fun ways to use it every time I play! :D

Just a little feedback regarding the things I said I would try (I apologise if somebody else beat me to it, there are just so many comments and I haven't read them all yet!):

- saving / exporting modified content: saving works like a charm, exporting does, too; however the Launcher won't "install" modified content as it will happily remind you that the item in question is already installed. Not so much of a problem, though. If you really want a stencil- or specular-less preset you can always convert to *.package
- Okay, big logic fail on my part when it comes to removing speculars etc. from "body items". This only works in Create-A-Style mode, and you can't even open the cheat console in "recolour" mode (where you don't pick a pattern but only colours). So ... nope.

I believe it's working as intended.

I can't even begin to thank you for the ability to remove the specular from clothing; I've waited for someone to do this since the game came out. No more plastic track pants!

Thanks, everyone. I'm really glad the mod is so useful for so many of you

@Rockerduck: The install message is a bit odd. Or at least it didn't happen for me when I just tested. I saved a preset for the shiny base game robe, then removed the specular and saved that as a new preset and then exported it. Then I copied it from exports to downloads and installed it and it came up in the game as custom content (as a separate preset from the stored ones). Did you do it differently? Or maybe with build/buy objects? In any case, thank you for testing. I think I will remove the in testing since I've gotten feedback and no reports of game breakage.

And yes, the body items have the color picker, but it's not the complete Create-A-Style.

Wow, just spotted the update, works in CAS, so awesome Testing now!

I gotta tell ya, this ranks right up there with NoIntro as one of the greatest mods of all time

Edit: Used the cheat console version, works great, both on clothes and objects. Works on community lots which removes the concern in my previous post, awesome.

One lil caveat, as you mention in the description, is that you have to set your patterns in CaST before removing the stencil (etc)... and any change to the patterns brings the stencil back. Which is a little awkward for a few objects where the stencil completely covers the region you're trying to CaST, but that's not intolerable (you just have to type the cheat again to see the result of your changes). [Edit: seems you can avoid this issue by saving the stencilless version as a preset, changing to another preset and then back... then with the stencilless version as your "base" the stencil won't reappear.]

Also I found it sometimes took me a couple of tries to get the preset thumbnail to save the stencilless version... saving sometimes restores the stencil... I might have been doing something funky, a second try generally worked, just seems a lil fussy... lemme know if there's a way to avoid that [Edit: a workaround is to remove the deco, exit CaST without saving the preset, open CaST again, and then save it... deco won't come back in this case. This was the only method I could find to save a preset without the gender symbol overlay on the mens and ladies room doors.]

Edit -- TLDR: Sorry for the confusingness of that, I was testing as I was typing To sum up, for best results I suggest entering CaST, removing the deco, exiting CaST, and then entering CaST again to color your item. That way the deco won't come back and you can save the preset without problems.

These are not complaints, just observations, the functionality of this mod is fabulous, thanks again :D

@Srikandi: Thank you very much for testing so extensively and sharing your findings. This makes the handling much more predictable. I've added your tip to the overview.
