In the very first Sims 2 game I was curious why the various community lots in Pleasantview had large car parking areas where there were no cars. Then the Nightlife Expansion Pack came out and Sims had cars to drive, but parked on the side of the road when visiting community lots. Why don't they park in the car park?

Having made a mod to fill your empty car parks with cars, this mod now allows you to park among them. This mod updates the driveway objects to allow the placing of them on community lots where they can then be used to park on by Sims driving to that lot.

Please make sure you have the latest version of the decorative parking spaces to use in combination with this mod. If you don't, you will find that your cars get put into the decorative parking spaces and your Sim cannot get out.


I have also built an example lot to show you what I was imagining when I made this.

Expansion Pack Requirements
This object works with all EPs from NightLife onwards, including if you do not have NightLife, but do have Numenors Driveable Cars without NL.

If you have no EPs beyond Nightlife (i.e. you have NL only or UNI and NL) please download the package entitled "NIGHTLIFE-ONLY-driveway-as-a-parking-space-Mog-20101104".

If you have Double Deluxe or any EP beyond NightLife please download the package entitled "BEYOND-NIGHTLIFE-driveway-as-a-parking-space-Mog-20101104".

If you have CrammyBoy's Community Time Project please additionally download the package entitled "CTP-COMPATIBILITY-driveway-as-a-parking-space-Mog-20101104". I have named the file inside the .rar so that it will be loaded after this mod and the CTP mod if you place all three in the same folder or sub-folder. If you have an array of different sub-folders, please read more about Load Orderwiki to understand where to place it.

Please note: You must have the NightLife EP OR any EP/SP later than NL as per the description of Numenors Driveable Cars without NL. In short, if you have cars, you can use this mod.



This previously clashed with CrammyBoy's Community Time Project, but an extra package to fix this clash has now been provided.

I don't know of any other mods this clashes with. There is always the possibility of course, so the pertinent information for the owner of the other object is here.

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

Even though I downloaded the newest version of the parking spaces from the thread, and replaced the old files with the new versions in my downloads folder, my sim's car is still showing up in the decorative spaces. The lot has no driveway, as there wasn't room.

Could it be that I will need to delete all the parking spaces from the lot and replace them after I replace the old file in my downloads folder? I haven't done that yet, since I wanted to ask before I went to all the trouble if it would be irrelevant.


EDIT: That actually seemed to fix the problem. I had assumed replacing the file would update all of them in the game. Guess I have to manually update all my parking lots. Oh well, at least it seems to work!

I have not done any testing with the garage door - nor have I made it possible to place the garage door on a community lot.

Do you want to use the garage door on a community lot?

HCDU picked up conflict with Crammy's CommunityTime Project.
The driveways worked fine my first play session (except some wonkiness with return times that I didn't connect with this until I finally remembered to run the conflict detector). Every time since I've loaded a community lot to overhaul parking lots and as soon as I click the driveway/garage button the game crashes.

Hope there's an easy resolution because it's a fantastic addition but CTP is essential to the way I play.

EDIT: Apparently not the cause of my crashes but does seem to definitely override crammyboy's mod. I'm getting no time delays or notifications upon return from community lots.

Can you provide a link? I looked up the user CrammyBoy (is that the correct user name?) but didn't see a mod that was named Community Time. Once I have a link I can check out and perhaps work around the clash.

Thanks for the link - the clash is in "Main - Community" which I suspect is rather central to both mods. I will investigate further, but in the mean time, I will document the clash.

Well, here's hoping...the functions are so different I hadn't even anticipated a conflict when I installed and began gleefully overhauling my parking lots. And thanks, Kabuto, for getting up that link so quickly.

I had the invisible car problem when my Sim drove to a pre-existing lot with no driveway but several decorative parking spaces (the lot was built using the original parking slots).

The sound of the car arriving kept repeating, but the 'driver' remained in the same spot on the road.

I fixed it by deleting all the decorative slots, then replacing them with the updated slot.

These are both super mods, thanks Mog.
