"SHOP-AT-HOME" COAT HOOK
Get for free any type of clothings!

01 FEB 2009 - UPDATED and IMPROVED
  • All restrictions stripped from the menu: now everyone (including pregnant sims, bigfoot, witches, servos) can get clothings for free, plan outfit and change to a different outfit. NOTE: this may lead to some oddities, because there are visual inconsistencies between the Bigfoot body and the human head, or the human clothings and the Servo head, etc. It's up to the player to choose the correctly match the clothings to the sim's head.

For example, in this screenshot, Rhonda (pregnant) used the Hacked Coat Hook to select a custom Maternity outfit, Servo used it to change to Formal, Randy (not pregnant) changed to Maternity outfit, and Bigfoot changed his everyday outfit to a human one.

  • Unlocked category "Maternity" for buy/plan/change outfit: now you can buy Maternity clothings, plan the Maternity outfit and change to Maternity; the same options are available for the "Naked" outfit, though they are mostly useless (there is not "Naked" clothing to buy ). Surely the most important feature is the ability to select different Maternity outfits:
  • Unlocked category "Naked" for buy/plan/change outfit: while this option is basically useless for "Buy..." and "Plan outfit..." (there are no custom clothings marked as "Naked"), the "Change to... Naked" option may be useful for thos players who use the various "naturist" hacks available on the Net.

02 JULY 2007 - BUG FIX
Now the sims correctly reach the Coat Hook placed on every wall.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: this is a hacked object (in the sense that it allows to get results normally not available in a standard game), but it is NOT a global mod or a global hack: it will NOT be unknowingly exported with your lots, and it will NOT affect the sims (except for the new clothings you will "buy" for them) nor any other object existing in your game.

INTRODUCTION
Probably many of you still remember (and use) a very old hacked dresser by Wintermuteai1, that enabled some hidden test menus on the big green dresser from the base game...
Well, we thought that it was time to create an updated version of that dresser; Winter was so kind to let us clone his old dresser (many thanks!), and we were about to create a quick updated copy of it.
But by far you all have probably come to know well the two of us: we are never satisfied So, modification by modification, we ended with a brand new object, with more functions, new menus, new animations and a brand new mesh
Though basically nothing survives of the original Wintermuteai's dresser in this Coat Hook, we still heartly thank him for having created it in the first place, and having given us permission to clone it

IN-GAME USAGE
You will find the "Shop-at-home" Coat Hook in the Buy Mode catalog, subsection Misc/Dressers. Once placed in your lot, you can click on it and get the following options:
  • Get for Free -> Everyday, Formal, Underwear, etc... - This option will open the same selector you get when you buy clothes on the community lots, but all the clothings have a cost of zero. NOTE: the "Casual 2" and "Casual 3" clothing types are useless: buying them is the same as buying normal Everyday clothings.
  • Change to... - Same as any normal dressers: it allows to change your sims' clothings; Seasons players will get also the "Outerwear" option.
  • Plan outfit... - Same as any normal dressers (includes Outerwear for SSN players).

SPECIAL FEATURE: MATERNITY OUTFITS SELECTOR
The Hacked Coat Hook lets you buy/plan/change to different Maternity outfits. The selector will include:
  • all the Maxis maternity outfits (only 1 in the base game, plus a couple more added with the various EPs);
  • all the "default replacement" Maternity clothings (in this case, the replaced Maxis outfits will not appear in the selector, of course);
  • all the custom Maternity clothings correctly categorized as "Maternity". Unfortunately, so far there was no way to change the Maternity outfit, and therefore all the custom outfits around are either "default replacements" or "Everyday" clothings with an added pregnancy morph. The good news is that it's quite easy to re-categorize the Everyday clothings, adding the Maternity flag (you can use the "Scanner" tool of SimPE, or manually edit the Property Set, adding 0x100 to the Category).

GAME REQUIREMENTS and INSTALLATION
The Coat Hook is compatible with any game, from the base-game alone to Mansion & Garden; as for Seasons and its Outerwear, there is not a different version for that: if the Coat Hook detects SSN, it will show the Outerwear options.
To install the Coat Hook, extract the package from the attached rar and put it in the Downloads folder (or use the Q-Xpress). To uninstall, just remove the package from the Downloads.
Seasons owners might find interesting also the "Any-Wear" Coat Hook (you can have BOTH in your game, if you like).

RECOLOURS
The Coat Hook is fully recolourable; you can recolour separately the clothings and the wood panel, but we suggest to recolour both at the same time, because both parts share the same textures.

REDISTRIBUTION POLICY
Please DO NOT CLONE and DO NOT REPOST ANYWHERE. Recolours are fully allowed, but don't include the mesh in your packages: provide a link to this thread, instead.
You can include these items in your lots and post the lots on free sites (NO EXCHANGE!!!), but you must credit MaryLou & Numenor and provide a link to this very thread (not just to MTS2).

I have seen 2 other versions like this already , by Shaklin and someone else.
What makes this one unique is that you can get clothing for free.

-Thanks

Great idea! And very useful for medieval sims, because it's a pest to have wrong clothes in the game everytime a Sim has a birthday. This is a way quicker solution than having them head to a community lot for shopping. Thanks!

Do you think will you upload the italian version of this hack in the future?
With Shaklin's universel dresser hack you cannot buy top or pants, it is possible with this one?

Ciao!
This hack already has Italian menu
Look at my site for images with all the Italian menu options.
And: yes, you can buy tops and/or pants.

Yes, you can have both. There is NO any conflict between the two hacks.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this! It's really a pain to have to go Downtown and wait for the loading, just to buy a single shirt, or a dress..And then have to go back if you forget something.

You're the best!

How cool! I didn't even know about the old dresser and I've always wanted something like this. My old computer does NOT like me to go to town. It's soooo slow I never shop and now I don't have to. Best part is, it worked perfectly without expansions! Yay! Thank you thank you!

Will getting clothes through this satisfy the Buy New Clothes want? (I'm going to use it anyway for those ugly age-transition outfits of course :D)

For a long time now I've been using Cathair2005's Hacked Dresser and loved it (especially the "dig-out" explanation) but I will be happy to have this in game too. Between the two of them, even my dormies and beginner houses can afford and fit a clothing option as well as having a little more variety in their dressers!

Perfect, stylish and very much needed for me, I like going down to community lots, but it takes such time just getting a basic wardrobe! Thank you!

cool! thank you. Just a small question: does it include an option to regenerate portrature when planing outfit and changing clothing? I change Sims clothing only when I absolutely don't like the ones they grow up into. So, I need something from JM to regenerate portraits, but people at that site don't appreciate me and I'm not crazy about modding self. Thank you.

That, I can't say. During my tests, none of my sims had the want to buy new clothes; but our Coat Hook uses exactly the same game routines as the normal shop coat racks (it's only instructed to apply a price of zero), so I guess that the want will be satisfied.

Talking about the "dresser" functions of the Coat Hook, they work exactly like a normal dresser, which means that the portrait (thumbnail) of the sim is never updated.
In any case it's impossible to update the thumbnail just planning the outfit. On the other hand, we could expect that using the "Change to..." interaction should create a new thumbnail, but this never happens, neither in standard Maxis dressers, nor in our Coat Hook.
The only way to regenerate (in game) the thumbnail is to Plan a new everyday outfit, then Change to the everyday outfit, then direct your sim to a mirror and Change his Appearance. The mirrors always generate a new thumbnail; dressers, never.
And of course, there is the old good method of exiting the game and deleting the thumbnails by hand (so to force the game to regenerate them): they are located in (documents)\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N00X\Thumbnails ("N00X" is the number of the neighborhood where your sim live).

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.
