Get for free any type of clothings!
by MaryLou & Numenor

(click the image for a larger gif)

  • All restrictions stripped from the menu: now everyone (including pregnant sims, bigfoot, witches, servos) can get clothings for free, plan outfit and change to a different outfit. NOTE: this may lead to some oddities, because there are visual inconsistencies between the Bigfoot body and the human head, or the human clothings and the Servo head, etc. It's up to the player to choose the correctly match the clothings to the sim's head.

    For example, in this screenshot, Rhonda (pregnant) used the Hacked Coat Hook to select a custom Maternity outfit, Servo used it to change to Formal, Randy (not pregnant) changed to Maternity outfit, and Bigfoot changed his everyday outfit to a human one.

  • Unlocked category "Maternity" for buy/plan/change outfit: now you can buy Maternity clothings, plan the Maternity outfit and change to Maternity; the same options are available for the "Naked" outfit, though they are mostly useless (there is not "Naked" clothing to buy ). Surely the most important feature is the ability to select different Maternity outfits:
  • Unlocked category "Naked" for buy/plan/change outfit: while this option is basically useless for "Buy..." and "Plan outfit..." (there are no custom clothings marked as "Naked"), the "Change to... Naked" option may be useful for thos players who use the various "naturist" hacks available on the Net.

02 JULY 2007 - BUG FIX
Now the sims correctly reach the Coat Hook placed on every wall.

NOTE: this is a hacked object (in the sense that it allows to get results normally not available in a standard game), but it is NOT a global mod or a global hack: it will NOT be unknowingly exported with your lots, and it will NOT affect the sims (except for the new clothings you will "buy" for them) nor any other object existing in your game.

Probably many of you still remember (and use) a very old hacked dresser by Wintermuteai1, that enabled some hidden test menus on the big green dresser from the base game...
Well, we thought that it was time to create an updated version of that dresser; Winter was so kind to let us clone his old dresser (many thanks!), and we were about to create a quick updated copy of it.
But by far you all have probably come to know well the two of us: we are never satisfied So, modification by modification, we ended with a brand new object, with more functions, new menus, new animations and a brand new mesh
Though basically nothing survives of the original Wintermuteai's dresser in this Coat Hook, we still heartly thank him for having created it in the first place, and having given us permission to clone it

You will find the "Shop-at-home" Coat Hook in the Buy Mode catalog, subsection Misc/Dressers. Once placed in your lot, you can click on it and get the following options:
  • Get for Free -> Everyday, Formal, Underwear, etc... - This option will open the same selector you get when you buy clothes on the community lots, but all the clothings have a cost of zero. NOTE: the "Casual 2" and "Casual 3" clothing types are useless: buying them is the same as buying normal Everyday clothings.
  • Change to... - Same as any normal dressers: it allows to change your sims' clothings; Seasons players will get also the "Outerwear" option.
  • Plan outfit... - Same as any normal dressers (includes Outerwear for SSN players).

The Hacked Coat Hook lets you buy/plan/change to different Maternity outfits. The selector will include:
  • all the Maxis maternity outfits (only 1 in the base game, plus a couple more added with the various EPs);
  • all the "default replacement" Maternity clothings (in this case, the replaced Maxis outfits will not appear in the selector, of course);
  • all the custom Maternity clothings correctly categorized as "Maternity". Unfortunately, so far there was no way to change the Maternity outfit, and therefore all the custom outfits around are either "default replacements" or "Everyday" clothings with an added pregnancy morph. The good news is that it's quite easy to re-categorize the Everyday clothings, adding the Maternity flag (you can use the "Scanner" tool of SimPE, or manually edit the Property Set, adding 0x100 to the Category).

The Coat Hook is compatible with any game, from the base-game alone to Mansion & Garden; as for Seasons and its Outerwear, there is not a different version for that: if the Coat Hook detects SSN, it will show the Outerwear options.
To install the Coat Hook, extract the package from the attached rar and put it in the Downloads folder (or use the Q-Xpress). To uninstall, just remove the package from the Downloads.
Seasons owners might find interesting also the "Any-Wear" Coat Hook (you can have BOTH in your game, if you like).

The Coat Hook is fully recolourable; you can recolour separately the clothings and the wood panel, but we suggest to recolour both at the same time, because both parts share the same textures.

Please DO NOT CLONE and DO NOT REPOST ANYWHERE. Recolours are fully allowed, but don't include the mesh in your packages: provide a link to this thread, instead.
You can include these items in your lots and post the lots on free sites (NO EXCHANGE!!!), but you must credit MaryLou & Numenor and provide a link to this very thread (not just to MTS2).

I guess maybe its a Maxian bug!

Edit. No, the new-with-seasons families aren't working for me either, I think I may have assumed this erroneously thinking one of them came with a choice of outerwear, just re-checked the family and she didn't. Currently I'm finding that although they seem to be able to use the coat-hook to buy, the items aren't winding up in the dresser - there's no plan option available. I guess I'll have to create new Sims for each photo and just wait for winter and have them walk outside and hope they change for me

I have to say that one feature I particularly liked about the big green dresser is the fact Sims didn't need to walk up to it to use it, they would just change where ever they happened to be when the test outfit came up in the queue. I notice this isn't something you've incorporated into the coat-hook, it would be a great addition if you decide to do any updating to it! Its very handy for photos as you can leave them in the right place for the 'photoshoot' without having them wander off to change or moving the dresser out of shot in buy mode.

I've examined again the code for the "Plan outfit" (the coat hook uses the standard Maxis code for this function); it states some conditions, for the interaction to appear in the menu:
- The lot must be residential (if it's a shop on a community lot, only the shop owner can plan outfit)
- The sim must not be a Servo
- If the sim is a pregnant female, she must be at most in the first trimester (i.e. pregnancy not showing, yet)
- The interacting sim must have some additional outerwear in his inventory (he must have bought some outerwear) -> the check for additional outerwear is hard-coded in the game, it's not a BHAV, so can't be modified: if the check returns negative, even if the sim *has* spare outerwear, it's a Maxian bug.

Note: the analysis above is based on the code from Seasons: older games use a different code, but since we are talking about outerwear, this analysis should be accurate.

The problem might then reside in the "Buy Clothings" code, and not in the Plan Outfit. We have to keep in mind that the "buy clothings" code has been designed to work on community lots, then the new clothings are added to the family inventory, and made available as soon as the sims go back home.

Please run this test (whose scope is to force the game to "register" the new clothings bought with the Coat Hook):
- Be sure to have a Maxis dresser or armoire somewhere on the lot (just to be sure)
- Buy some outerwear using the Coat Hook
- If the "Plan Outfit / Outerwear doesn't show up, call a taxi and bring the family to a community lot, and then go back home.

If this makes the "Plan Outfit / Outerwear" option appear, then it means that the problem is in the way the game "acknowledges" the new clothings.

As for the sims forced to walk to the dresser, actually is something that I have purposely added to the code: the original Maxis code (used by the green dresser) didn't have such an animation. I guess it's a matter of personal tastes: I didn't like how the sims could buy clothes without even walking to the green dresser (I had to move the camera to the dresser, in order to click on it, and I couldn't see the sim any more: I didn't like that).

Thank you for the lovely hack. I am wodering about plan outfit? We can plan outfits when we have more than one for everyday, Pjs and so forth but not for outer wear. Why I have posted this here is I could not find a forum that would sutable for my question or a person that would even think of formulating a hack for this. I have made a slimbodybuilder's outwear and the only way I could a sims to wear it was to make a sims, be sure it was the only outer wear he had, if the sims has an other outer wear he can not change into an other....?

First off, thank you both for all of your creations! I have enjoyed many of them through the course of my simming. I would love to be enjoying this one as well, but I too seem to be unable to get it to show up in my game, which is really odd as I RARELY have troubles with any kind of custom content. I tried both this coat hook and the Any-Wear coat hook as well and neither of them show up. I have all the EPs and stuff packs except for HHS along with a plethora of custom content. The only thought I have is that it must be conflicting with something to have it not show up completely. I am using the most recent version of the InSim, has that (or anything else for that matter) been found to conflict with the coat rack? I am completely puzzled at the fact that I can't find it in the catalog at all.

I found mine (coat rack)under misc/dressers. If you can not find it, it very well could be conflicting with something else. I had a bowl of fruit once that has change to three other things in the past year...what next, but still says it is a bowl of fruit.

Thank you for the rack. It works great. Is there a way to change the prize each time you buy an outfit it will cost $300 each or normal prize rather than $0? I would like the sims to pay for what they buy rather than get them for nothing. Plz let me know how. Thanks.

There is a clothes rack you can get that work with Seasons but does not have the menue to buy outerwear but you pay for your clothes. works fine in my game with all other EP's.

thanks pjbrooks56 , for showing me the link. However, I like the Coat rack better because it looks nicer and takes less space than the dresser. Does anyone know how to change prize value using SimPe?

About the missing "Plan Outfit" for Outerwear - There must be a bug in the game code, and so far I couldn't find it... As reported by several users, it's not a problem of the Coat Hook, it affects in general the dressers, but only sometimes... If I ever come to a possible solution, I'll post here my findings.

About the cost of zero for any clothings - This was intentional: the Coat Hook is a hacked object, and it's supposed to do things that you can't do normally in game, and it doesn't have to behave in a "comprehensible" manner. In other words, a hacked object is legitimate to perform a "magic" like letting your sim to get plenty of clothings for free.
If you want to manually change the cost of the clothings (but with the limitation of one price for all) using SimPE, open the package and select the BHAV "Interaction - Get Clothes for Free - Private (MOD)"; select line #4 and change it from:
Expression (Temp 0x0001 := Literal 0x0000)
Expression (Temp 0x0001 := Literal 0xPPPP)
where "PPPP" is the chosen "price" for each piece of clothings, in hexadecimal format.

Select the line #4 of the bhav I've told you; open the Instruction wizard as shown marked with the blue stare in this screenshot (ignore the other coloured references in the image):

Then, in the Wizard, tick the checkbox "Use decimal" (so that you don't have to convert any number in hexadecimal) and lastly change the number in the lowest-right field to any sum you want. Here is an example, to see how the Wizard looks like (it's taken from another tutorial, so it will be slightly different...):

Click OK, then Commit and save.

First of all I would like to thank you for this object. I love it.
But now I got a problem with it.
I just use 2 hacks in my Game( Pets,nightlife,ofb,university,Seasons...all ep`s) your object an the more pets hack and now, anytime when I try to save the game it chrashed the computer shut down an restart by self .... without savig the game..
I think the Problem is using both hacks togehter, because when I don't use the hook it works perfekt
