EDIT (by MTS2 Staff)
Unfortunately, as some of you already know, Andi8104 has prematurely deceased, and therefore the LotExpander is no more supported by him.
Luckily, some skillful users, Sorcerer and Mootilda, decided to continue developing this project.

The last (outdated) version released by Andi it attached to this post, and works with any game up to OFB included.

The current "latest version" is the Lot Expander by Mootilda; read the additional info and game compatibility at Mootilda's thread.

In any case keep in mind that the Lot Expander (any version) can break your lots, and damage you neighborhoods; therefore, if you don't make a backup of your neighborhood and suffer damages due to a (mis)usage of the Lot Expander, don't blame anyone but yourself

(Original post by Andi8104)

First of all: sorry for my bad English. And at all the developers of you: sorry for the terrible coding.

Release 1.2.1:

A few bug fixes for the 'over the road' option.
E.g. the problem with the portals reported by Numenor is fixed.

Release 1.2:

Some bugs are fixed:

The problem with the 'flying' roofs, reported by TheCoffeeBear is solved now.

Sometimes there where some locked tiles on extended lots, so you can't build on it. This is fixed now.

Sometimes your Sims was buried or stick into walls after enlarging. This problem is not really fixed (The OBJT resources of the Sims are too complex for me, I think), but it is now easier to solve it. Just break up the actually action of such Sims and wait a few seconds. Now they were normally playable.

New Features:

You'll find a new Checkbox:

Checking it will bring you the following message, witch explains the functionality:

Now you also can choose the Next button without changing a value:

Release 1.1:
Now you can choose the direction of enlarging the lot.

Release 1.0:
I've written a little program to enlarge lots after building/playing:

It allows you to expand lots up to size 6 x 6 with a few mouse clicks (see pictures below). You can change both, Width and Height, in one Cycle. LotExpander offers English and German language GUI. You do no longer need SimPE or my Word macro for enlarging Lot. The problem described in post #8 is solved.

You need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to run LotExpander!

The program is using some DLLs from SimPE (included in Setup).
Big thanks for Quaxi for this and his whole work for the community!

LotExpander is released under GPL
You also can get the source code here.

Small Lots:
In attachment of this Post you'll find a complete set of Nx1 residential lots (N = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
These Lots are created with base game, so they will work with or without any EP.
If you are interested on Nx1 community lots, have a look at this post from MaryLou: #100
Moreover, there are some 1xN residential lots by Nightguy82 at Post #339
Now everyone can create lots of his/her wish size with LotExpander.
Operating System: Windows

Wow. Wow, wow, wow!

I've often wished that it were possible to expand a lot, but I had no idea that anyone could actually DO it. Thanks so much for this program!

Danke sehr!

I made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at

I absolutely cannot make a 1 wide by 2 deep lot. It won't let me. I have seen some lots here that are...but if I un-build the houses on them, I cant make a foundation on the lot except in a very small area (I'm going for townhouse, I prefer to build my own). Any suggestions, or any empty 1x2 residential lots out there? I have tried converting a commercial to a residential and I never have been able to get it to work even though I type the cheat in correctly.

Let me understand: you can't create a 1x2 lot at all, or the resulting lot doesn't accept foundations?
Expanding the 1x1 residential lot (which is empty) you should be able to create a functioning 1x2 lot; of course, the lot is small, and the space available for the foundations isn't large, because the entire border needs 2 tiles free, all around.
With these limitations, you should be able to build a 6x16 foundation (the entire lot is 10 by 20 tiles)

I've finally started my Journal. Information only, no questions.

odd, anyone having the same problem?

the expander doesn't work with my present os configuration, so I can't tell.
after all, I mod the lot file rather.
So, if the expander doesn't work well with you, Aurelia.
May try out modding the lot file.
Or, ask a friend to help you make the lot with this programme.

As always, use a copy of the lot to mod probably in a testing neighbourhood unless you're fully confident. good lucks...

Is it possible to go beyond the 6x5 lot size limit? like 10x9 or something (either for an existing lot or for the lot templates)
Mad Poster
#257 Old 3rd Mar 2007 at 3:51 AM

Presently, it says the expander cannot do so yet.

We'll see if someone can do that in the future.

Oh my! Are you sure? I mean, it's really the same Andi8104? (Well, with a nickname like that, I guess there can't be two...).

Can you give us a link to that post at, please?

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

< jitDebugging="true" />

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

what wrong?

I have this problem, too. Using Seasons. TS2 recgonizes that it's a 3x3 lot, but there's no land there. So it looks like what Incera said. I backed up the neighborhood, so there's no worry. The lot isn't in a corner or anything, so it shouldn't be a problem, should it?

I tried to place the lot in OFB game but I can't.So what can I do?

#265 Old 7th Mar 2007 at 4:02 AM
What is the game version you last played this lot and family?
And if it's already OFB, then did you have other EPs like NL and UNI as well? If so, you still need them.

Mmm, I'd try this then.
Replace a newly made lot of the same size in a testing neighbourhood with a copy of your lot file. Reload the game and see if it's accessible.
And if not, I'd try to keep that testing neighbourhood along with the lot and in another OS, in stall another copy of the TS2. Replace the custom game folder from "my document" with a copy of this back-up-ed testing neighbourhood. Then, I'd install all the patch and EPS and/or SP sequentially up to Seasons.
Let's see if the game patching can save the lot. in this way.

But if the lot fails to load in all game versions and the above suggestion I can think of right now you can try, the last resort I can think of is to mod the lot file. Unfortunately, there's no info about how to approach it yet that I know of.

Hopefully, someone may know know how and drop in a solution.

Oh what terrible news. I'm so sad to hear Andi has passed. And to think I was checking to see if there was going to be an update that would make it compatible with Seasons. Its not recognizing the new neighborhood that came with the EP and I think that is why its not able to properly resize my lots anymore.

What a shame. Andi's contributions will definitely be missed
Mad Poster
#267 Old 7th Mar 2007 at 1:07 PM
Andi's lot expander should still work in OFB or lower at least, so users can make their lots with Numenor's BGS and then probably upgrade the lot with the neighbourhood by installing newer EP or SP in a game copy probably in a new OS copy.
Yeah, it sucks for now until someone picks up his work.

In the above post I made, I was trying to take advantage of the fact that installation of an EP or SP may patch the used lot files. So, hopefully, the lots may be saved. But, this method is unproven yet.

I finally find this wonderful tool, arriving in the hopes of asking questions only to learn such terrible news. I hope his family is holding out ok.

Hopefully someone else will continue this work. It is a great idea I have not yet seen duplicated. I assume that it has to be updated as newer EPs are installed.

This tool sounded fantastic and is something I (like many) have wanted for some time!

I suppose despite the circumstances, I should still ask my questions since many of you have used the tool and can still help.

1) Assuming I am NOT using the "over the read" feature (not exactly sure if that means what I think it means, but anyway...), if I build a house on a lot and the later expand the lot with this tool, will I still be able to package and share the expanded lot or could this crash the game of the person who downloaded my lot?

2) What will happen if I make a lot smaller than it was previously and there were objects in the area that is no longer part of the lot? Do they remain? Will doing this crash the game when entering the lot?

Thanks for the help.

Best regards to his family!

Sims Mod Lover,

better use a game version around OFB or lower to expand a lot coz it's not updated for Pets or Seasons.
May use Numnor's BGS to start earlier game versions.

a reply to 2.,
presently, a lot can't be shrinked by the lot expander. Presumably, that can only be done by modding the lot files manually... Andi was to add this feature to the lot expander but now he has gone.

Shrinking a lot is much more difficult than expanding a lot. Your questions can already show some of the issues.

I'm unsure about 1., too. sorry...
