Gwrych Specialty Lot: Prison Towers

August 2010 Update
I used many barrel and invisible objects created by Sophie-David. David has updated his "Ye Olde Copper Barrel & Sack Miscellany" collection (found HERE with "ehanced animation, meshes, thumbnails and extra recolours". Be sure to peruse the thread, download what you want and overwrite those files in your Gwrych Downloads in-game folder. David's invisible items can be found HERE, HERE and HERE. There is also a very unique update to the Apartment Life Mailbox that you may find useful found HERE.

I mainly used the trash barrel, the trash bucket, the simple barrel (with slots), the simple bucket (with slots) and the barrel endtable, as well as a few choice bucket contents (apples, fish, wheat, etc.). I also used the invisible dishwasher and a few invisible mirrors. However, there are other objects in these sets that will be used in the Gwrych March, Barony, Other Gwyrch Lots and Gwrych Fantasy Island collection of lots which will be uploaded separately as they are completed. So please checkout the above links and decide for yourself what you wish to include. The files sizes are nominal and while there is a great selection of choice, once you get to see the objects in action and familiarize yourself with how things work, it's so WORTH it from a Medieval point of view.

There are 2 versions of Gwrych Prison Towers available for download in this thread. One version is a RESIDENTIAL lot and the other version is an APARTMENT lot.

In every Kingdom there are those who cannot seem to conform to Kingdom living. For these poor souls, fate lies in the hands of the King. The best thing one can do is to avoid "Sinner's Gate" and ye will be sure to keep your head!

Lot Size: 3 x 2
Lot Cost: 158,866 Simoleons

Lot Description:
Gwrych Prison Towers is a residential lot. It includes a Sinner's Gate entrance (the only entrance to the lot), a Prison Tower (with an admittance desk and 2 cells), a Prison Chapel (with confessionals), a Torture Tower (with a small trial room and a torture chamber below), Gallows (with Targa's invisible 1 tile elevator below the noose) and a Nobility Tower (with a dining hall, a bedroom and a bathroom). The lots sleeps 4 to 5 Sims comfortably. There are 6 toilets, 2 showers and 2 bathtubs.

Note: The Torture Rack is actually a bed and the room is a functional kitchen. Please click about in these medieval lots and watch your Sims when they are putting things away. Fridge is the pile of ashes...diswashers are buckets with dishes in them. Etc. It's like a treasure hunt to find your appliances! Enjoy!

(as of June 15, 2010 at 10 PM Pacific Time Zone)

Lot Size: 3 x 2
# of Apartments: 4
Apartment Range: 206 Simoleons - 2,526 Simoleons

Lot Description:
Sinner's Gate entrance (the only entrance to the lot), a Prison Tower (with an admittance desk and a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bed cells, 2 showers and 2 toilets), a Prison Chapel (with 2 confessionals, a Priest's apartment with 1 toilet and 1 bed), a Nobility Tower (with a dining parlour on 1 floor and a bedroom and a bathroom with 1 double bed, 1 toilet and 1 bathtub). There is also a Jailer's Suite on the 2nd Floor of the Nobility Tower with a bed for 1, 1 toilet and 1 bathtub). The remainder of the lot makes up the "common area". It includes the Torture Tower (with a small trial room and a torture chamber below which is actually a kitchen), the Gallows (with Targa's invisible 1 tile elevator below the noose that leads to the Gallow Shed) and the Sinner's Gate (which is the entrance that houses 2 full bathrooms (with 2 toilets, 1 has a shower and 1 the other a bathtub). The lots sleeps 5 to 6 Sims comfortably. There are 8 toilets, 3 showers and 3 bathtubs.

The layout is basically the same with the following exceptions:

1. The Chapel has been reorganized to include a small apartment for the Priest.
2. An extra floor has been added to the Nobility Tower for the Jailer's Suite.
3. The Lower floor of the Prisoner's Tower has been remodeled to get an apartment door inside the space.
4. The roof of the Nobility Tower has been decorated to be a small outdoor garden.

To distinguish between the RESIDENTIAL and APARTMENT versions of this lot, the APARTMENT VERSION has been aptly named "". Simply click on the "DOWNLOAD" tab to get the file.

* There are invisible refrigerators and dishwashers throughout all of my Gwrych lots. Where you see food buckets and barrels, there is usually an invisible refrigerator and where you see buckets with dishes in them there is usually an invisible dishwasher. Basically the buckets and barrels with stuff in them, tend to be refrigerators, dishwashers or trashbuckets in disguise.

* In addition, when you see the Maxis Witches Podium, please note there is an invisible mirror occupying the same tile. While the podium still functions as normal, you can access the mirror by clicking around the leg of the podium. I have also placed the Maxis communal shower inside barrels in several of the lots. All works fine.

* I used Targa's Ascension V2 Stairs/Elevator in this lot. The stairs are meant to be invisible, but I left the transparent option on so you will know where they are. Simply click on the lower level of the transparent stairs circle and make it invisible using the editing tool in decoration mode. To use the object, simply tell your sims where to go and they will automatically use the invisible ascension stairs if they are the only option to getting there. The initial intention for using these was to give the illusion that your sims who stand in front of the noose are being hanged. However, I also found it useful for the small gatehouse spaces and getting to the roof.

Please keep these things in mind!

Below are 3 objects I intended to include in the lot, but I could not or I would have exceeded the 10MB upload limitations. can add them yourself if you'd like!

For your torture chamber and gallows:
Skeletons by Gromit

For the back wall of your Chapel confessional booths:
Wall Crucifix by Kevin's Hope

As a more medieval replacement for the prison bed (This a German text site. You must also register and/or log-in to download):
Medieval Prison Cot by FunFun

For those of you who like for things to be a bit more "authentic", Inge HERE at Simolgical has a prison system that allows you to treat your lot as a true prison. The only downside to this system is that the objects used are not "medieval", but there are those of you who may find a way to work around this.

Below I'm sharing my layout for Gwrych Prison Towers, Gwrych Jousting Field and Gwrych Great Hall. I have placed the lots in the aforementioned order across from the main Gwrych Kingdom Castle. Click on the link below if you are interested in how I arranged the lots in my Gwrych Kingdom.

P.S. - Feel free to place your lots anywhere you'd like. The above image is just a suggestion.

Please read this if you are having problems AFTER entering a lot or are receiving an error message about "counters without doors". Otherwise, view this as general information about Gwrych lots.

Apparently, you CANNOT use "move objects on" to place objects on the back of a counter where there is a kitchen sink. In some of my Gwrych lots, I found an error with placing sponges in the back corner of counters that have kitchen sinks. Initially, I thought it was that sponges could not be placed on counters where there is a kitchen sink, but have since discovered that no objects should share the counter tile when there is a sink in the counter. If you have found you were receiving a counter error when entering a Gwrych lot with a Sim...there may be objects sharing kitchen sink counter space (like the hour glass, sponge, plant or jars) that I overlooked in the process of fixing this problem. Please understand that this may NOT be the issue if your game is constantly crashing. It is just one possible solution I offer. Testing the Gwrych lots on different computers has resulted in ALL Gwrych lots being playable from this end. As errors are encountered during game play, solutions are also sought. If you are only having problems with a few lots, this may (or may not) be part of the problem. To fix this problem, all you need to do is to load a new version of the lot, enter it WITHOUT A SIM and delete any objects that are sharing a counter with a kitchen sink. Also, if you notice there seems to be no sink in an area where there should be one (especially bathrooms and kitchens)...try adding a sink to the empty counters. If you cannot place a sink on a counter, that counter should be deleted and put back in the game before adding a sink. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Remember, enter the lot WITHOUT a Sim to make changes.

Adding clutter to the back slots of counters that do not have a kitchen sink appear to work just fine. So clutter away on counters without sinks!

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

Yeah. I have no idea if he is actually guilty! You know that my way or the highway business of the past killed many an innocent soul.

Seriously though...thanks for the compliment.

You are welcomed and I appreciate your comment. Do enjoy the downloads.

Thanks for the love D.D. - Yeah that torture chambre is classic. The rack makes me laugh sometimes. Since it is a bed it would be neat if a "Convulsion" animation was added to it! Those blood puddles (thanks to Sophie-David) added just the perfect touch of realism I was hoping for. The Sims when relaxing or sleeping are so "comfy" on the blood puddle I placed on the bed. And to think...that room is actually a kitchen in disguise with a bed in the center.

You are more than welcomed pegasus.

I was wondering what would be the best way to present this lot. I wanted to be able to control locking people up and what not and thought it would be easier to do this as a residential...Too bad there are no medieval apartment doors as I keep going back and forth with the hubby over the lot actually being apartments as well.

Hmmm... I guess I can add a floor to the nobility tower with 2 floors for the king and 1 floor for the warden, the prison tower can be an apartment for 2 prisoners, I could also remove the confessional area in the chapel and make a priests bedroom and the torture tower could remain a common space (because it has the kitchen) as well as the Sinners gatehouse (which already has 2 bathrooms) and the rest of the outside as well. I don't know...we shall see. So, basically you will have 4 cozy little apartments and a great functional common area with outdoor barbecues, a gallows and a torture chambre.

It would be a quicker transformation if I had a single tile and 2 tile apartment doors that were medieval. This hasn't been done yet to the best of my knowledge. I'll play around with it for a bit today.

At any rate...Thanks again everyone.

Gorgeous lot, StephSim! I agree with CatofEvilGenius, the execution scenes were amazing. You ought to get some sort of Sim posing award or something.

Anyway, I don't know if you already knew about this, but Inge over at Simlogical has a prison system that could be used with your lot. I say "could" because, um, I'm not so sure how well a prison would work without her special sinks, toilets, beds, etc., none of which are at all medieval. I'm still looking into the option myself, for my own medieval neighborhood.

Anyway, great job and thank you, thank you for sharing!

Thanks morgaine! hubby was just talking about using parts of Inge's prison system this morning for his Gwrych Prison Towers. I'm sure other's will find the link useful. I'll add it to the main post a little later (when I add the apartment version of the Prison Towers - which I've completed). Thanks for sharing the link here.

I've updated the Gwrych Prison Towers to include both a RESIDENTIAL and an APARTMENT version.

Sorry you can't download this Alice.

Well perhaps you can download "A Small Kingdom" lots instead - THE NEIGHBORHOOD MAPS ARE HERE and THE 1st of 5 Posts START HERE. "A Small Kingdom" lots require no Stuff Packs and fewer EPs than Gwrych using No Custom Content. It's modern, but I'm sure with a bit of redecorating, you can get a medieval look using thing you may already have.

It does have a small prison apartment lot found HERE. While I didn't add a guillotine stage, one can easily be created for the lot as there is a bit of space to do so.

There are a quite a few of us Medieval lovers who want EVERYTHING Maxis has to offer mixed with everything the Sims community has to offer as we are building purely Medieval neighborhoods. Thus, Gwrych was born.

I hope you can find something useful in "A Small Kingdom".

Oh I doubt that. With the exception of Mansions and Gardens, it should actually run just fine without the Stuff Packs. However, you will need M&G and all required EPs. Nonetheless, it is good practice to backup your files whenever testing something.

No, no...that's just great POSE BOX picture taking! I try to design my lots for story tellers as well. In that way they can make it "look" as though you can.

I'm not a executioner....I mean programmer... I am but a simple lot designer!
