Very nice. I've tried a few different unbreakable umbrellas mods, but I'm pretty sure this is the first I've seen that accomplishes it in this manner. Thanks for offering different flavors, too; I like the realism of broken umbrellas, I just hate having them break all the time.

I believe this one is the better fit for me as well. I like broken umbrellas, but not almost immediately after purchase! lol

Thank you! I actually just stopped buying the umbrella since they seem so pointless anyway. They break instantly and sims can't do anything while holding them so they still get the drenched moodlet. *sigh

At least now they won't be broken before my sims ever use them.

It's strange, everybody keeps talking about their umbrellas breaking and since I upgraded them they never break. Even without a mod. O.o

But if I ever have this problem I will know where to go. Thanks for sharing with us!

Upgrading keeps them from breaking, but some people don't want to take the time to upgrade them all.

ETA (to avoid cluttering the thread further): my mistake. I had not heard of upgraded umbrellas breaking, so I didn't realized you were talking about a particular bug instead of regular game behavior.

Ah I thought I had read on another forum that some users were having issues with the umbrellas even after upgrading them. *shrugs*

Some may not read or realize that this mod uses the same resource (Umbrella_XML) with yours, so you may want to note it on the description that they will conflict?

To be honest I'm confused why both tuning mods were approved for the upload process -- maybe they were just approved by two different moderators.

In any case, I think it should be pointed out that the amount of time tweaked is actually a "grace period", not a "frequency". In other words, once you buy an umbrella, it should not break within 24 hours of it first being bought, but thereafter it has a 5% chance of breaking + 1% cumulative chance each time it is used -- not just checked once every 24 hours. Since sims, while routing to various locations, will take down and put up the umbrella several times, this equates to a pretty significant cumulative probability that the umbrella will break each and every day, with a grace period of 24 hours since it was bought (or the last time it was repaired, although the ones from the concession stand appear not to be repairable except with debug cheats -- I didn't play around with it too much, though, and it's possible I was accidentally using the non-handysim in the household).

The only real way to fix the problem of cumulative breakage is either to eliminate the increasing chance of breakage and to set the base chance very low, or simply to use an unbreakable one. I personally tuned mine so that it has a 7 day grace period and that the breakage chance is 2% base + 0% cumulative -- so far so good.

This game has some serious probability issues... I didn't even know umbrellas could break. I have been playing since the EP released and never saw a broken umbrella. I will keep this mod in mind for later when suddenly my umbrella breaks daily. :X

I went with the indestructible one because in my experience umbrellas don't break or tear that easily at all and quite frankly I am tired of building up handiness to make them unbreakable.

Thank you! Yes, the broken umbrellas were driving me nuts too. lol As Pasithea noted above, in real life umbrellas usually don't break that often. At least not the better made ones I know my mom had one for almost 40 years and it was still going strong when it was finally *lost*. On the flip side, we've had the walmart specials break the first time we use them. But. . .yeah, sims doesn't offer you different quality umbrellas, so we can just assume they are supposed to be ones that last. or should. lol

Taking the indestructible version myself.

I don't know about anyone else, but, personally, I've never broken an umbrella in my life.

It's absurd that a Sims' umbrella would break every dang time they use it!

Umbrellas break quite a bit here in NYC (even the expensive ones..and for that reason, I know lots of people that buy cheap ones in anticipation of it breaking) because it's usually very windy when it rains. You can see at least one broken umbrella on the sidewalk or in a trashcan every time it rains. This is why I like the idea of them breaking in the game, but it was happening way too easily.

So..thanks to the creator of this mod!
