Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
I was inspired by a recent rash of housing uploads that were base game and looked quite nice, so I decided to ditch my custom content and build a home with the materials Maxis gave me (big step for me). I also decided against using a real floor plan and designed the property on some graph paper while I waited for the game to load. I'm no architect, but I've studied and built (literally) hundreds of real plans in my game, so I have a bit of experience to work with.

I thought, if I could design my own home, what would I want? It had to have:
- 4 bedrooms
- 3+ baths
- Formal living room, dining room, and family room
- Garage and carport
- Sunroom
- Midcentury/Contemporary appeal
- Partial open concept
- Large, landscaped yard

I am actually not a fan of total open concept. I do not want a clear-shot view from my living room into my kitchen. That feels like an apartment. I think this plan maintains an open, circular plan but retains some separation and identity for each room (living, dining, kitchen, family areas). At first the roof was a hideous nightmare, so I incorporated the Lanai to build a believable roof. Otherwise, the plan is unchanged from when I drafted it on paper. I was pretty happy with my results, in the end.

A totally separate clone of this home was play-tested and everything is functional, very livable, and without shortage of toys to keep your Sims busy (pictures were taken of the identical tested lot). Enjoy!

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

The roof above the garage and family room is definitely too tall, but that's Sims 2 limitation, so there's nothing we could do. But I won't lie, a great house, and it definitely looks mid century, good job on that!

Wow! So gorgeous and what a perfect floorplan! I want to live in it. I never use large lots but I am making an exception with this.

Lovely! Who wants guests looking at one's messy kitchen after preparing a four course meal in there? I think you have nearly designed my dream house too. I might convert one of the BRs to a large & luxurious master bathroom, i.e., my bathroom, but otherwise an absolutely perfect house.

My first thought when I saw this house was that it had to be from RL blueprints. You did a great job in both layout AND the "look" of the house. I can see a lot of retro-50's interior design will be going on in my new hood tonight! Many thanks.

This house is great! I love the style of it. It kind of reminds me of the house from The Incredibles.

Hmm, is the title a Kate Bush reference, by any chance?

Thanks for the upload!
