I love the bed, even though its high-poly

Wow, this is really pretty! I'm new to downloading content for my Sims, and I love this set (especially the bed). I'm just learning about polys as well; can a 12K poly bed function normally on a lot as long as it's the only high-poly object I have (the rest being either low or from the base game)?

Thanks, vkk!

To answer your question, yes, the bed will function normally, but on slower systems, or systems with low virtual page memory settings, having too many high poly items on a lot can make the game lag. The rule of thumb for most items is 800-2K polys for each floor tile, which the bed (a 6-tile object) just barely exceeds, so chances are it will be fine. If you find it's causing problems, though, you can safely delete it. It won't crash your game. Hope that answers your question. ;o)

Thank-you for the speedy response, I really appreciate it! : ) I just noticed, though, that OFB is required for this and I don't have that. Is it required for all the items in the set, or just a few? It would be a shame if I could not use this set without OFB!

Vkk, the bed is cloned from a Basegame bed, so it doesn't require the OFB pack. You should be good there! ;o)

I'm trying to recall which item required OFB, and I'm drawing a blank. Let me check on that and get back to you.

Edit: Okay, I recall now--the area rug and tapestry require NL, and the dresser/lamp requires OFB.

Ahh, okay; I have NL. Does that just mean that when I upload it onto my game that the dresser ("large armoire" right?) and lamp will not show up in my catalog?

EDIT: Sorry, one more question n_n; what is the UV maps file for?

No problem, vkk. The large armoire is okay--it's the dresser with the lamp on top and decorative clutter (all one piece, called "Lamp Decor Vignette") that was cloned from an OFB floor lamp. And, no, it won't show up in your catalog if you don't have the right EP.

The UV maps are for people who want to recolor the set in SimPE. It's just a .bmp file that acts as a template for the different textures. It won't hurt your game if you have them in your Downloads folder. (Some creators include them with the package files, but I figure I'd just offer them for anyone who wants them.) If you don't plan to recolor the set, you won't need them.

I downloaded and thought it was pretty but upon using for my Sims, I discovered they try to pull the covers back and nothing moves, then they lay in the bed, halfway sinking into it and becoming partially invisible. Also, all the pieces in this set are said to be environment 100 but, since environment really only goes to 10, and my Sim's environment bar while in his bedroom (furnished almost completely in this set) only moved to about halfway, I'm guessing the environment is a lot lower. The work is nice but I prefer something more functional and with high quality. If you can fix this I would love it but it makes me wary to download more of your pieces.

Heaven_sent--you're right about the environment score, and I'm glad you mentioned it because I had intended to address it in the post and completely forgot. This was the first set that I had ever made, and I'd read another creator's post where they claimed to have changed the environment score to 100, so I thought I'd try it. It crashed my game, so I changed it back, but forgot to change the catalog listing. The actual environment scores are between 1 and 10 for everything in the set.

As for the bed, well, as I said, it was my first set. The bed was my first mesh. I made mistakes--mistakes that I've seen in lots of custom beds. I made changes to the "bedding" subset instead of just the frame. I didn't realize at the time that that would effect the animations. Now I do. I also know it's not something that will crash anyone's game. If it was, I would have removed this post. I chose to leave it up because a lot of people like the set despite that little quirk. If that makes you wary of downloading from me, so be it. There are lots of great creators out there. I'm sure you'll find just what you're looking for somewhere else.

I have downloded other things, including a bed, that have worked fine....there is no need to be wary!
