Do you mind if I put in what I know about the Countess?

It may also could be the way she had grown up as well. Her family was, well...strange. She favoured her aunt, who was a well-known woman who was also a lesbian. She taught Elisabeth many of the tourture methods that she ended up using later in her life.
She started off with peasent girls, luring them in by telling them she wanted them to work for her. At the time it was not unheard of for servants to be disciplined harshly if necessary (also, because of the status of these girls, no one really cared if they went missing). Sometimes she even got her servants to do the dirty work for her while she paced back and forth, commenting crudely to her victims. Sometimes she would get so excited that she would faint (from epilepsy researchers think). One time she even made a victim cook and eat a strip of her own flesh. One of her favourite methods was to have a victim held down, while Elizabeth took out her special pinchers-designed to rip flesh-and tear the victim's breasts to shreds.
After a while, The countess grew restless, and started picking on girls with higher status, but with lesser nobility than hers. This is what started suspicion. Complaints were made to King Matthias (whose father attended the Countess' wedding), so he sent one of his noblemen to see what was going on. On Decemer 26th (I beleive), the nobleman caught the Countess red-handed while she was in the middle of an orgasmic torture with one of her victims. (Now you can imagine what happened next). The servants were executed, but due to Elisabeth's status, she was imprisioned for the rest of her life. She was found dead on August 21st, approximately 4 years later. No one knows exactly when she died, as her food was left untouched for several days.
No girl that went into the Bathory household came back out alive. The only survivor might have been the girl that the nobleman caught Elisabeth with.

That was longer than I intended it to be (whoops ^^). The information in this comment can also be found in the book: "The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers." There is a good sized article about the Countess, and it goes into more detail.
As everyone else who chipped in here, no really knows for sure what happened, as it was such a long time ago. The book I read could be right or wrong. I just noticed that no one really had information similar to mine, so I thought I'd say something.

I've always been interested in her story. Thanks for making such a beautiful and yet dark sim. ^^ I'm sure she'll find a place in my periodical neighbourhoods.
